So, does this mean AI is making us dumb, is inherently bad, and should be abolished to save humanity's collective intelligence from being atrophied? As they correctly point out, humanity has a long history of "offloading" cognitive tasks to new technologies as they emerge and that people are always worried these technologies will destroy human intelligence.

As I mentioned on the ONT, iacta alea est -- "the die is cast." I've submitted my retirement letter to my boss with my date of March 31. Now we have to post the job listing and deal with candidates -- I've agreed to be part of all that -- while I have to wrangle the budget for next year. By the time my successor starts, it'll pretty much be settled in its corral. But he or she will have to deal with organizing the move to the new building this summer. Good luck with that; I'm buggin' out.

Zilch, I'm afraid. I've mentioned the date, and commented that my taxes next year will be weird (three months of salary plus vacation time, twelve of SS, nine of pension!), and gotten silence.
As it stands, in early April I plan to have some maintenance done on the Buick. Then I'll drive up in the second week of April to look at SW Indiana and NW Kentucky, and talk to some people on the ground there. I haven't done a real road trip in too long, so the fun of driving is something to look forward to.
Maybe, when she sees I'm serious and this will really happen, she'll actually discuss this. Maybe.

Yes, I plan to continue with much of this after I retire -- though I won't have to prepare my lunch ahead of time, and I want to go to bed later and sleep later. But I'm an early morning person now. It's odd. In my twenties and thirties I figured, if God had wanted us to be up before ten am, he'd have made it happen later in the day. Now, I hate to waste the quiet of an early morning.

Latest annoyance is the Microsoft hello biometric login that reinstalls itself even when you remove it via the device manager. Yeah, I know I can force the issue, BTDT. But why should I be forced to? Why the asshats insist on such crap.
This after the last annoyance which was MSFT removing the only useful program that ships with windows, Notepad, then leaving generic error messages and expired troubleshooters (which were always useless anyway) in place, rather than offering a simple dialog to use another program to open the file over the network, leading one to believe there were network config errors.
This after the annoyance that is forced Copilot with no simple or consistent way to disable it.

Road trips are OK if you can do it at you leisure and plan ahead. Nowadays, my 'road trips' are mostly out and back the same day. Looks like day trip to Nashville is in order next week. I'd like to take the scooter and ride up to Sturgis over a week, ride a few routes up there over a week or so, and then ride back over a week.

When Trump finished his oath of office during his first term, impeachment proceedings had begun. Now? He bulled through so quickly, the opposition didn't have time to set up a counter.
As for the judges, I'm quite certain that Trump's legal team was given the heads up about what he was going to do on day one and they went through the plans first. I expect tears from the left when the judges are ignored and their cases thrown out.

Despite January being almost a record setting month for cold temps. we only pulled a 48% of capacity run time.
And less than 8 hours of supplemental heat strips despite quite a few mornings of below 25 degree periods.
Not great, but better than I was afraid that I would see.

I'm purely speculating, and talking generally, but if she *did* take these allegations to police, along with the evidence she claims to have, and they did nothing to protect the powerful, then she was right to use her position to carve through the bullshit.
It is the flip side of the justice system. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty, but only when the system tasked with determining guilt is allowed to operate properly. Evil people misappropriating our rights as their shield seems to be a recurring theme.

Does it really? She could have made those statements outside the House chamber. It would have had the exact same effect on everyone else involved. But she didn't. She made them in the one location that shielding her from the consequences of making that statement.
The allegation should absolutely be investigated and, assuming evidence can be found, prosecuted. If her statement is truthful, the perpetrators should probably be executed but, at the very least, never see the outside of prison again.
But she's making these statements about someone with whom she was in a long-term romantic relationship. The idea that no one, man or woman, has ever lied about the person they've broken up with is ludicrous. And she made the statement where she could not be held to account if she is lying.

If the allegations are proved true then I'll happily sing her praises but I recall all the glorifying of the "poor" lady in the Duke case. I'm not saying she's bad and if she's putting forth federal legislation then her choice of location is understandable. I am, however, withholding my judgement until more is known other than she made an accusation.

So the whole BS a few years ago about the poll "Should I be the CEO of Twitter" had zero effect on whether he would be CEO of Twitter, that was already answered by a waiting room of candidates.
