Young guy at work told us a story where he and his buddy were surfing and a great white killed a seal about 30 yards away from them. Instead of going ashore, they continued surfing.
Asked why they stayed and his answer was they figured he was eating and would leave them alone. The look on his face when someone mentioned that didn't a kill bring more predators to the area. Apparently, it didn't cross their minds there could be other sharks in the area.

I’ve got dogs that come onto my farm a lot. Two of ‘em, must be from a neighbor, but I haven’t determined which.
I’d hardly care, but they get aggressive with me. One time I was out working and they come at me growling. Between me and the house.
I picked up a big ass wompin’ stick. They did *not* like that.

Probably. I've heard they will do that during a total eclipse. Although the eclipse itself only lasts a few minutes, it gets noticeably darker quite a bit sooner. Enough to fool bats and birds into thinking it's nighttime.

I saw something on X not too long ago where there was some world famous millionaire South American (Brazilian?) photographer getting all kinds of praise and accolades for collecting funds to help restore a section of rainforest.
The punch line that all the articles left out?
His dad was fabulously wealthy, with something like $15M worth of cattle back in the 70s (along with all kinds of other livestock, staff, etc) and HE was the one that destroyed the rainforest his wealthy son is now collecting money to restore.
He's a millionaire and is getting other people - I assume white Americans and Europeans - to pay him to re-plant his family farm that his dad ruined.
That's the way to do it.

Years ago Jonah Goldberg was writing something about how Libertarians sucked. He used the Dept of Education as an example....that Libertarians would scream BURN IT ALL DOWN when it was clear that the DoE wasn't going anywhere despite it being a worthy outcome. It was therefore good realistic conservatism to turn the DoE around to become a force for patriotism.
Apparently he had tendencies toward preemptive surrender even back then.

I took my car in for a wheel replacement. $900 they said, parts in on Monday. I paid in advance because, hey, you can pay for the part and get it on Monday.
On Monday they found a shitload of other stuff wrong for another $2200, held the car overnight. Oh and since I didn't bring my credit card (I thought I was done) they couldn't give me a loaner. And they didn't normally use a shuttle service.
So I was in limbo most of Monday morning while they found some monkey who could drive me home. Then home with no car for two days and out $3100. (Did I also mention my microwave broke in the meantime? I believe I did, on an earlier thread.)
At this point I'm afraid even to leave my bed in case something else explodes around here.

Now maybe this person is just really, really good at investing and we should take their advice or maybe...well...there is something other way they are getting money and we need to look into that too.

This is something I have been thinking about for a while. Modern things from all over the place decry rote memorization and drills and so forth as being boring and not fun for the teachers or students. Well, it seems like that style of teaching got a lot better results.
I honestly do not care if it is boring for the teachers.

The thing is, all of these ideas sound insane. Do you realize how much manpower, money and material it would cost to do this? The panama canal was famous for its cost in both people and effort. And that is a MUCH smaller distance.
Plus, going through the middle east, where are you going to put it without the same jacknuts causing problems. Go full 'Britannia Rules the Waves', hang some pirates and enjoy the canals you DO have.
It would be easier for the Saudis to just pay for a navy (or issues letters of Marque) than to build a canal.

I quit eating liver because it has been pointed out by biologists that the liver is the poison metabolizing organ of the body, and some toxins that are not metabolized or excreted end up there long term. So eating liver is eating the unmetabolized toxin history of the animal.

Not that uncommon. Ever watch the series, "Air Disasters" on Smithsonian Channel? With private planes and small company planes, poor maintenance is a factor in quite a few accidents. One of the first areas the NTSC looks at. Mechanics not following the manufacturer's repair or maintenance procedures exactly.

Years ago Jonah Goldberg was writing something about how Libertarians sucked. He used the Dept of Education as an example....that Libertarians would scream BURN IT ALL DOWN when it was clear that the DoE wasn't going anywhere despite it being a worthy outcome. It was therefore good realistic conservatism to turn the DoE around to become a force for patriotism.
