Outside of incidents of personal tragedy, the day Trump left the White House because he was defrauded of his rightful place was one of the worst days of my life. I watched him and Melania leaving. Melania was dressed in all black and she looked like she was on meds. I was dumbfounded as I viewed the scene, that I was seeing grand larceny of a presidential term, in real time.

One of the seemingly intractable problems, the judiciary is clearly being extorted one way or another. Recall the odious Schumer in front of the Supreme court building threatening they will “reap the whirlwind”, and carefully doxxing names and addresses for mobs to show up at their homes.
This is also apparently what happened in Pennsylvania with regard to state courts during the run up to the 2020 debacle. They don’t dare hand down a ruling that doesn’t comport with the thugs. Posted by: Common Tater at February 10, 2025 01:43 PM (uvCel) 71

They don’t really mint the coinage any longer, they sort of look like cheap Chucky Cheese tokens now. Very flat, with no relief. This is to allow for a much higher volume or speed. Funny story on the penny bit.
My wife, before we started dating, was semi-dating this guy who was a big libertarian/Constitution party member. Total jerk actually... he didn't call my wife, his girlfriend, for months... then when he found out we had dated and gotten engaged he got all upset. My wife was like "You didn't call me for six months. Kinda figured it was over!" In any event, he had gotten a parking or speeding ticket. So he went to the county clerks office to pay the fine, and just dumped a bucket of unwrapped pennies on the desk. It was like 92 dollars worth of unwrapped, loose pennies. And the poor clerks had to sit and count them all. Took all of the office the rest of the day. I laugh and cringe about that story alot. Those poor clerks! NRA Institute for Legislative Action
🚨BREAKING: The Hearing Protection Act has been reintroduced in the Senate by Senator Mike Crapo! This bill would remove outdated federal barriers to make suppressors more accessible, protecting gun owners' hearing and promoting safer shooting. “Gun owners around the world are using suppressors to reduce the impact of noise and hearing loss while using their firearms. Even in countries with the strictest firearms laws, suppressors are often unregulated products that anyone can buy over the counter. However, outdated federal law makes it difficult for Americans to access these useful safety devices,” said NRA-ILA Executive Director John Commerford. “On behalf of our millions of members, the NRA thanks Senator Mike Crapo for introducing this important legislation to roll back the bureaucratic red tape on suppressor ownership in the United States.” Posted by: rickb223 at February 10, 2025 01:47 PM (QDum0) 102

“On behalf of our millions of members, the NRA thanks Senator Mike Crapo for introducing this important legislation to roll back the bureaucratic red tape on suppressor ownership in the United States.” Posted by: rickb223 at February 10, 2025 01:47 PM (QDum0) Awesome. To think, American History came down to two people in a single moment of time. Trump 2.0 in the White House is a direct result of: A commie cocksucker with a rifle and shitty aim... ...and Trump shrugging off the low-rent Secret Service agents assigned to his detail to raise a defiant fist with blood on his face. Why exclude that EO? Trump has more of a legitimate claim to enforcing immigration and naturalization laws than the judiciary.
Posted by: Disinterested FDA Director at February 10, 2025 01:58 PM (cFzfG) 1. It isn't about enforcing immigration and naturalization laws it's about interpreting the Constitution. The legitimacy of Marbury v. Madison notwithstanding, that's the judiciary's job. 2. I don't think there's an honest way for the judge to say "this order is unconstitutional but we'll let you enforce it while the courts argue about it". 3. Either that, or a party split. I'd prefer the party split. It would entertain me more. But I think the reformation (similar to how the outsider Trump took almost a decade to reform a majority of the GOP) is the more likely outcome.
Posted by: TheJamesMadison, watching B-movies with Roger Corman at February 10, 2025 02:12 PM (GBKbO) Party splits are less dangerous in our system than in most others but it does increase the power of the most extreme party. In our current system 3rd parties either can't win a vote anywhere and don't matter, or this splinter group needs to moderate and make deals with the top 2 parties. In all the other systems I know about multiple parties are instant cancer as a voter uprising means nothing, just add on another radical ideologue party to the coalition for the next decade. There is an argument to be made that the SUPREME Court is co-equal, with the power to serve as a check on the other two branches.

Posted by: Helena Handbasket at February 10, 2025 01:56 PM (Vqx30) Something to be thought about, USAID was the principle money source for funds being washed through NGOs and charities and grants, but US monies were not the only source. The EU and the member states on their own pay out gobs of money to this and that, and Trump's audits are not even looking in that direction yet. If we see the EU or the Brits or the EU Member states starting to sell off assets, well, we can see some liquidations of assets to support something that isn't covered by taxing and money printing. Since then there have been a few getting in per week that are not in the press. I think they are not too upset about the pace since the Dems are acting like lunatics in the confirmation hearings and losing anyway. Posted by: Oldcat at February 10, 2025 02:33 PM (n7h9X) 389
There’s absolutely nothing in the Constitution about the judiciary having final say on interpreting the Constitution. Nothing.
The founders expected the people, the voters to be the final arbiters of that. Marbury vs Madison where the Supreme Court ruled that they were not the final arbiters of the constitution -- thereby establishing that they were. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at February 10, 2025 02:33 PM (2VST1) 390
Democrats are very careful when shopping for venues and stocking circuits with their nominees. The DC circuit requires cleansing.
TBH Trump could have had his people do so as well. Go to court with a bad argument in front of a judge unlikely to like it. When the judge then rules that everything is a-ok you have a stronger case once a leftist judge comes back and stops you. Posted by: 18-1 at February 10, 2025 02:33 PM (t0Rmr) 391

Although in (some) fairness, at the time the court's jurisdiction was much more limited, and generally involved only "cases and controversies" involving discrete parties. It wasn't until many decades later the court's jurisdiction drastically expanded and became basically a super-legislature. Posted by: Elric The Blade at February 10, 2025 02:38 PM (iFTx/) 408

Wolfus Aurelius (#410):
Sometimes puns appear in translation that are not in the original text. There's a male prostitute in Catullus (poem 35) who is getting too old to attract customers, so he "can't sell his butt for a penny", or, better, "can't sell his ass for an 'as'". Another example is Catullus' most famous line, "Let us live and let us love", where the two verbs don't look anything like each other in Latin. "Lost in translation" sometimes (one time in a hundred) is actually 'gained in translation'. Posted by: Dr. Weevil at February 10, 2025 02:58 PM (43XUo) 414
