  • Did Google fake the AI output in its Super Bowl ad? Yes. (The Verge)

    Not only was it wrong, it was a verbatim copy of text that has appeared on the web since 2020, before Google Gemini existed.
    But Google maintained that the website description was written by Gemini all along. In addition to showing Gemini "generate" the description in the commercial, Google Cloud apps president Jerry Dischler said on X that the Gouda stat was "not a hallucination," adding that "Gemini is grounded in the Web."
    Well, if by "grounded in" you mean "a human copying and pasting directly from", then sure.

    The original text claimed that Gouda accounts for 50 to 60 percent of cheese consumption worldwide, and is "one of" the most most popular varieties of cheese, which is comical.

    Everyone knows that's Venezuelan beaver cheese.

7 Good morning, Grumpy!

Miss Linda turned on a few minutes of the Superb Owl, and when I looked up there was some noisemaking clown in blue with four fat women in white strutting behind him and spouting rhymes that would make Dr. Seuss throw up. Was *that* the half-time "entertainment"?

Some of the ads were neat. Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan as they look today spoofing their When Harry Met Sally famous scene, and Ben Affleck and his brother Casey sporting beards. I can't recall the products they were hawking, so in that sense the ads were failures, but they were often fun and clever. Frenetic, but clever.

Thus may each effort for you result in grand exceeding of expectations and dismal anguish for the leftwit slugs.

10 @7/Wolfus: { Was *that* the half-time "entertainment"? }

Couldn't tell you. I didn't watch any of the game, and only listened to a bit of it (out of mild curiosity and a bit of nostalgia) on the Westwood Radio Network on AM radio when I was going to refill the vehicle's gas tank last night in preparation for the work week.

I didn't even realize it was Superbowl weekend until Friday when someone told me. That's how tuned out of the NFL I've become since they started that woke nonsense. I haven't watched a game in years.

11 So what musical group was made up of a noise making clown and fat women in blue? I didn't watch any of the Super Bowl but some of the comments here early in the spectacle were pretty entertaining.

Posted by: Grumpy and Recalcitrant

Good question, and the answer is it's not a language anyone wants to use. It is named as it is because it is designed to make programming as difficult as possible, while still being Turing-complete.

For example, this is the code to print Hello, world!:

++++++++[>++++[>++>+++>+++>+
+>+>->>+[>.>--
-.+++++++..+++.>>.
------.-------
-.>>+.>++.

29 For anyone who may have watched the entertainment yesterday, did the rumored DOGE ads happen?

Posted by: I used to have a different nic at February 10, 2025 05:09 AM (ExV1e)

30 Morning all!

From Babylon Bees "10 Inefficiencies In Government Computer Systems Identified By DOGE Workers"

8.) Woke government programmers kept trying to make the computer language non-binary: This caused the entire government computer mainframe to identify as inoperable.

Posted by: Bruce at February 10, 2025 05:10 AM (V78cl)

31 Why would any programmer willingly use a language with a strong foul language word in the name?

No one would put it on their resume because no one would use it in industry. It's a stupid, obfuscated language where the code is nearly impossible to read and the getting anything remotely complicated correct would be functionally impossible.
