Friday Overnight Open Thread (2/7/25)

Greetings boys, girls and everything in between this fine Friday evening from the bowels of the People's Republic of Dane County, WI. (Madison)

On the road with the Fabulous for the next couple of days.

Dave isn't here tonight as there was a family emergency back east. Hopefully, he will be back next week. He didn't give me the keys to the middle school boy's bathroom and humor vault. So I don't have any memes. Deal with it in any fashion you choose.

60 year old Executive Orders never voted on by congress, GOOD! Orangeman Bad Executive Orders, Bad, bad, bad.

A federal judge said Friday he is putting at least a short-term stop to President Trump’s plans to place thousands of employees at the U.S. Agency for International Development on administrative leave, dealing another legal setback to the new administration’s attempt to reshape the government bureaucracy.

U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols said he would issue a written ruling later detailing his reasoning for the temporary restraining order.

"They" say it is war. Should we take it to them?

Everything is fine and dandy until your luck runs out.

“One lady in the medical ward that said that he had the traveler’s insurance and that meant $20,000 of coverage,” he recalled.

The cruise line maxed out two credit cards Cameron had on file and he still owes $21,000, he added.

The couple had purchased travel insurance from the cruise line that covered expenses of up to $20,000 and have health insurance — but Cameron is stuck in a holding pattern, with each claiming the other is responsible for the bill, he told Fox 9.

For $50K I hope they loaded him up with the good drugs and not the generic Gatorade.

I looked up the judge and his record is mostly bad with one odd bright spot.

He sent Bannon to jail for "contempt of congress"

He allowed Dominion to bankrupt Guilani and others

He let Letitia James give Trump's state tax records to Congressional Democrats

He didn't let FedGov sentence a J6 protestor for obstructing Congress's certification of the stolen 2020 election on the grounds that...he didn't actually obstruct the certification.

Did they give the judge the list of the names of those 300 babies? Thousands of girls and women will die in which countries, or does USAID pay for every abortion on the entire planet?

133 Hallo, Horde. As mentioned earlier I'm in a bad spot and have a bit of an ask. First the background...

In January 2024, the person I was renting a room from decided to terminate lease, as per the agreed upon terms, and at month's end I wound up sleeping in a recliner at a friend's home, in what I knew due to circumstances was not a long term arrangement. This January history repeated and it was time to go. I've been living out of hotel rooms for the last week and funds are running out. I have no further remaining support network in this area.

Bottom line, it's time for me to move on...I'm just not sure where. (And the "how" is a little sketchy no thanks to recent medical expenses and the hotel rooms.)

If anyone out there has space for a mostly housebroken middle aged dude in a place where I stand a chance of putting my sad office skills to use to support myself, hoo boy, do I need options...(cont'd)

138 Teen in critical condition after stabbing at Trump immigration protest in L.A.
https://t.co/nOqAq4MSKP
What started as a peaceful protest turned bloody when a teenager was stabbed in Los Angeles on Friday after a group of students walked out of school for the fourth day to protest immigration policies set forth by President Donald Trump.
Footage taken by Sky5 over downtown L.A. showed at least one of the brawls that broke out and the aftermath of a stabbing, including the bloodied victim, in front of City Hall.
“I came to the protest, and there was a guy that came up who wasn’t even a part of the protest, and just shanked a dude,” a witness named Will told KTLA. “I got it all on my camera and I just walked over, I told them to apply pressure, cut up some shirts, wrap them around him so it would stop the bleeding.”
By 1:49 p.m., the LAPD confirmed a Hispanic male had been stabbed at Grand Park, outside City Hall. He was transported to a local hospital, where he remained in critical condition as of Friday evening.
Around 5:20 p.m., LAPD revealed that the victim was a 17-year-old male. Officials did not immediately confirm whether he was a student.

It doesn’t taste like goat cheese. Not that I would buy it at the store because it’s way too expensive.

I'm just a little iffy about eggs. When I was a teen my home got egged by neighborhood assholes and I had to clean it all off. It's weird, but ever since, I was turned off by the sulfur taste & smell. As long as I don't overcook them, thats generally not a problem. It's weird, I mean I love eggs, but some how that day always creeps back into my taste somehow.

277 A couple thought about Felonious D. Power is said to corrupt the holder, also, and most relevant now, is power reveals. Felonious D, for now it seems is immune from the corruption but not wholly free, and rightly so, from yielding it for well deserved retribution against his most corrupt tormentors. But it is the reveal, especially between versions 1.0 and 2.0 that has my attention. 1.0 showed him at times a clumsy power practitioner who inexplicably let the self serving mandarins grab his ankles causing to stumble. 2.0 hardened by impeachments, endless persecutions, the lying mandarins, near death, transformed himself into a power artist we have never witnessed. What is revealed is a president immune to everything but his American vision, pure, who is delivering not an agenda but a revolution. It is breathtaking the revealed audacity and mastery of this time and place. Power reveals, yes it does. We are witnessing the newest member craved into the presidential pantheon's frieze reserved for rarest holders of that title. God's speed President Trump and never doubt we have your back.

If we treated anorexia the same way the whackjobs want to treat transgenderism, we'd be offering gastric bypasses to the victims to make them skinnier.

360 350 I am exactly the opposite. I’ve been around long enough to realize the president doesn’t have the power over to a that people think. Yes he cannot be a democrat and that alone stops horrible laws from being put into place. But most of the stuff is on the state level and there are plenty of Republican governors who don’t give a wit about the 2A. If you want me to give names, I will do so I’ll say a very popular name Youngkin doesn’t give a damn about advancing 2A rights.

I am not sure why a legit conservative would not be concerned about 2A, the left roaches on that right every time they are in power, but Republicans often do nothing when they get the chance to push back. This isn’t about Trump. It is about the reality on the ground in the states. My guess is anyone who is not concerned about it probably or originated in Europe, Canada, or the left coast just a wild guess.

395 I hear you AOP. I didn’t know there was a subset that was going after Trump on 2A. From my experience in the United States it is mostly a state issue. I will give you an example for my state of Virginia. 20 years ago, Virginia was at the forefront of. 2A rights. It was the state other states that car cared about 2A modeled themselves on and tried to emulate. Florida was also part of that.

Since that time, it has only been losing in Virginia. Even, we have the Have a popular governor like Youngkin nothing is done. I am not criticizing Trump here. I do think he will do all that is within his power. Some people are asking him to enact, nationwide concealed carry or nationwide constitutional carry. I don’t think that is possible, but I am no expert on the law here.

Without context, and some sort of independent verification, it's meaningless. You or I could make a similar video easily. Buy or borrow some empty boxes, snag a Red Cross logo off the internet, print the labels, buy enough "stage money" to make a single layer on top of some bricks, in one box. Video the box. 405 A federal judge said Friday he is putting at least a short-term stop to President Trump’s plans to place thousands of employees at the U.S. Agency for International Development on administrative leave, dealing another legal setback to the new administration’s attempt to reshape the government bureaucracy.

U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols said he would issue a written ruling later detailing his reasoning for the temporary restraining order.

If the Trump is serious, he'll order the judge to be arrested and held in federal prison for as long as it takes to make the point that Hawaiian judges don't run the government.

DOJ investigation will surely reveal collusion when combing through communications and emails.

I'm sure there are more than a few dirty dollars to be found as well.

Every survey has shown that a large majority of Americans, despite being vastly in favor of illegal immigrant deportations, would exempt DACAs.
It's poor optics, and IMNSHO, unfair. There are ways to handle the problems that would be created by exempting DACA from deportation, like disallowing chain migration, or allowing those over 12, say, to return after reaching majority. Something that's fair to kids who had no say in where they lived to remain without opening a route to more illegal migratiin.

But there is a reason 30 years ago Virginia had very clean gun laws while the Carolinas Georgia and a bunch of other deep state south states had very convoluted gumballs laws. The argument has been made that they made so many gun laws to hold the blacks down the Democrats did that.

Virginia always had legal open care and we are very proud of that. We were one of the first southern states to enact shell issue concealed carry, but we were after Florida. That was in the mid-1990s and that was the high point for Virginia. Since that point it has only been losses on the 2A front. Actually,Richard Carpenter was heavily into Frank Zappa (seriously!)
There's a famous bootleg of Zappa and the Mothers from Ohio '74 during which, Richard And Karen join the Mothers on stage for a jam session on
"Brown Shoes Don't Make it"!! Karen even ad libs a spoof on the famous Jimmy Carl Black line by saying: "Hi Boys And Girls, I'm Karen Carpenter and
I'm the bulimic of the group".
The story goes that right in the middle of Richard's clavinet solo on "Call Any Vegetable", Karen vomited the backstage buffet all over the front rows, having taken the myth about the so called Zappa "gross out" contests a little too literally!!

You can visit the Swedish Zappa web site for a picture of this bizarre and liitle known meeting between these three musical legends of the

464 DACA is the perfect example of why people hate lawyers and why Trump needs to start jailing judges.

It’s nearly 13 years old. It was an illegal EO issued by Obama. If the courts were actually reviewing illegal actions, it would have been shutdown immediately.

Instead, it’s still being debated by these fucking self-appointed Calvinball experts. It’s sickening. It’s an illegal Democrat EO that can’t be reversed by a Republican.

There’s not a single enumerated power in the Constitution giving the judiciary the authority to enshrine illegal Democrat EOs as law, or block Republican Presidents from deporting non-citizens, but these unelected bastards just keep mouthing off and issuing TROs so they can consider the matter, as if anyone needs their brilliant thoughts.

The key 14th Amendment phrase is "subject to the jurisdiction thereof". It's clear, from the original context (what they actually said at the time) that this was about the freed slaves, to prevent any state from trying to deny them citizenship.

It was not about aliens. Congress has the power to, via statute, clear up the meaning of subject to the jurisdiction thereof.

Now, you'd need 60 votes in the Senate to do that, most likely.

482 468, it has always been weird to me that Americans even conservatives are so welcoming to illegal immigration. I think part of that of course is kindness, but part of that is also simply not considering the rest of the world at all. I know in the 1990s my goal in life was to be a proud American ex patriate in London or Paris. I simply wanted to live abroad for the experience. I thought it would be exotic.

The Europeans treated me as if I had to plague. I had hiring managers who wanted to hire me, but there was no way to do it legally. The standard practice in Europe was you had to prove that the European could possibly do the job to give one to an American. No job meant no visa, your ass had to leave..

488 I think a lot of Americans, conservatives and liberals have very kind hearts. But one of the big issues is, I think a lot of of them never even considered living abroad. If they had their view on immigration would not be so myopic. It is normal to send back illegal immigrants. Every country does this and that is their policy. Only in America is it possible to feel sorry for illegal immigrants and let them stay. Try that in France or Japan and see what being an American will get you.

But even today, just try it as an American and see how they treat you. The reality is even though most illegal immigrants from Mexico are simply going about their lives and working. The only reason Mexico supports them. Is they send billions back to Mexico as income. Mexico supports illegals in America only because they are one of their two or three largest income sources. Again, try to illegally go to France or Italy or Spain. No one will be arguing on your behalf.

Another interesting thing in this web of NGO/DAF money laundering DOGE has revealed. Invalid addresses. Some entity receiving money will have a vacant lot, empty shack, or otherwise invalid address listed.

Reading DataRepublican, it's a difficult (meaning time consuming) task to actually verify that an address is really bogus, and not a false bogus.

She says a good percentage of good addresses will be flagged as invalid by software attempts at this, and the only real way is for an individual to look it up, and put eyes, even with Google Maps on the address.

I don't know the issues involved here, but this is some problem the geniuses need to solve. Automate this task to get a reliable high speed way to do it.

It's no wonder the jackass leftists keep push the canard that Trump is a dictator when at least some of his supporters want him to act like one. There is ABSOLUTELY NO CONSTITUTIONAL PROVISION that allows a President to arbitrarily jail anyone, much less a member of a co- equal branch of government.
------
It’s nearly 13 years old. It was an illegal EO issued by Obama. If the courts were actually reviewing illegal actions, it would have been shutdown immediately.
------
The Republican House introduced a bill that would have codified DACA and provided a path to citizenship for them. The Democrats blocked it, because they wanted all sorts of other immigration goodies hung on the bill.
------
So if your parents rob a bank you get to keep the money because you did not personally rob the bank? lol

528 >> That's cruel.

Life’s cruel sometimes. Too bad!

Enforcing the law is “cruel” sometimes; so what?

We’re full. America for Americans. I guarantee you I will never see these people as legal citizens and I will never stop trying to make their lives miserable.

They should get out now before things get much, much worse for them. I’m not going to be so inclined to generosity if they stick around.

Mexico might be cruel, but we can make things very, very cruel for them here. So maybe Mexico is a better place for them.

My grandfather was first-generation here, of Canadian immigrant parents. Proud, they were, to become citizens.

If THEY could do it legally-- so then can anyone else!

Are we a nation of laws? Or not?

Thats what pisses me off the most. It used to be where immigrants used to kiss the ground when they got here. They realized it was a privilege. They bent over backwards to learn the language and fit in. When I was doing kitchens and baths I was in a different house every week. I heard countless stories from 1st generation Americans how their family that immigrated checked their birth country at the door. Native language was forbidden, it was english or nothing. These days immigrants are a joke, they come for a meal ticket, don't give a flying fuck about American culture, language, customs, whatever. Then they send the money back home and fly the flags of the cesspools they left. Fuck'em.

Blog admin gets email from AOP and publius, and says, "these guys have been here a while, not obvious leftard trolls", and passes our emails on to DOGE. 551 Another thing about mass immigration and language. One of the huge issues schools and governments are facing is a very significant percentage of the illegal immigrants are illiterate. Just in case someone doesn’t understand what the word illiterate means. It does not mean they can’t speak English. It means they can’t even read the right Spanish. This is causing all kinds of hell to local governments and school systems. It is almost like the United States went back to North Africa Africa way before the ancient Romans took over. My point being the ancient Romans massively increased literacy. And this is 2025.

Another unfortunate side-effect of this Reckoning of the money-laundering schemes. A lot of legitimate, clean charities and non-profit types are getting caught up in the dirt web of money flow.

This was really by design. The grifters and CIA dirty tricks squad types embedded their dirty asses in this charity and non-profit "ecosystem" if you can call it that.

And they do give dirty money to the clean charities, who have no way to really know they're getting a little chunk of change from some CIA coup funding slush fund.

Do you not understand the purpose of elections?

They are a mechanism by which the popular will is supposed to be imposed on the government. Candidates take positions on how they intend to operate once in office, and ideally these positions reflect what they'll actually do.

That hasn't been the case for a while, hence Trump. His signature issue is the elimination of the invasion. But the invasion is just the consequence of our renegade governments' desire to escape our authority over them. So he also had to run on grinding them into dust.

Kamala was the candidate of compassion for foreigners and letting DC do what it wants. Everyone knew she would be a puppet like Biden before her. And the majority of the country chose Trump because we all recognize that the (recent) old ways simply cannot continue. The defeat of the Left must be total. They cannot keep their influence in our government. They cannot continue to steal from our tax coffers. And they cannot keep their army of new voters.

Yes because rescuing the guy trapped in the fire is her only purpose in that job, and he at some point paid her salary. She is therefore obligated to him and if she can't perform, she has no business taking the job.

None of us have any obligation to other nation's progeny. None of us ever agreed to take it on. And none of us are being paid to perform the task. The problem exists because our government betrayed us. And no one who serves the betrayer's side, especially the invaders, can be permitted to benefit from their actions.

Yeah that kinda sucks. When my grandmother came back to America in 1938, she was allowed to take my father's older sister with here, who was 2 years old, but not his older brother, who was 5. Mussolini came up with some law that kids that were born in italy to dual citizenship Americans were free to leave unrestricted if they were born after a certain date. My uncle missed it by 1 year, so he had to wait a year and come with my grandfather. I guess it was assumed if you lived in italy for a certain amount of time you were considered italian. I sometimes wonder if ultimately that's what they'll do that for kids born here that have been here for years and years. Not a free pass, but something a tad more painful than what legal immigrants experience.

595 572, that is cool. I studied history in college and they pretty much let us go all over the place. Probably the study. I remember most was a western civilization course and a course on the Italian Renaissance by the same teacher who for sure was not. I think he was Jewish. Either way I wanted to study Italian because we were required to take a language course, but I had to go with Spanish because it was the only way I could graduate on time., I regret that choice but oh well. And after college, I took up French on my own and I’ve been studying it for 30 years and even now I’m just OK. I still wish I had gone with Italian.

It is funny to realize that the country of Italy as we know it has only existed since 1855. And certainly way past that point there were tons of different dialects. It is pretty cool that what is considered to be modern Italian was basically from a tiny area but even more so from a specific book. They all know the Italian that the guy on the news speaks, but even today they have their own dialects that they speak to each other.

Blog admin gets email from AOP and publius, and says, "these guys have been here a while, not obvious leftard trolls", and passes our emails on to DOGE. DOGE ddputizes us by e-mail (for very limited actions, heh), and we go to check if certain addresses physically exist.

Way back when Climate Change was still AGW, there was a lot of controversy about the verity of US temperature reading stations, with claims that many of them were presenting false readings due to anomalous locations.
A website (Watts Up With That?) crowdsourced the question by posting a list of every site and asking locals to.take pictures and send them in. It worked and they wound up with pictures of every site. My favorite was the one where the station was sitting about 20 feet away from an air conditioning unit exhaust.

When people talk about how great the gelato is in Italy, I kind of smirk because I know most of the gelato sucks. It is just like trying to find really good fish and chips in London, there are 2000 places and only 10 are well regarded. The worst tourist traps in Italy are the people Hawking goods outside of Vatican City.

If you hate Italy by the time you get to Rome, don’t go further south it gets worse. If you love Italy by the time you get to Rome, keep going south. It gets better.

614 In case anyone finds that comment weird or unintelligible, I will explain it from my point of view. What he was saying was people that do not like culture shock should not travel south of Rome, assuming they started in the north like Milan. The people that get off on Culture shock should keep going south towards Naples because it only gets greater. I don’t know if that still rings true today, but my guess is it does. People ask me today where I would most love to live and I say San Diego in the 1970s. The Europe I knew was from decades ago, but I still hope most of it is intact.

615 I knew two different families when I was a kid where they didn't want the kids to learn the old country's language. Part of it was the total assimilation bit, part of it was a desire that the kid not be discriminated against because of the accent (and, yes, that was not uncommon), but the funniest reason is that they wanted to talk about "adult" subjects -that hussy next door with her bleached blond hair, etc - without the kids knowing what they were saying.

Never had an issue with the food or ale. I miss the English breakfasts I got in the B&Bs. London is huge. Went there a lot and still didn't see all of it. I was in the UK for 3 years.

Posted by: Puddleglum at work at February 08, 2025 03:56 AM (jFCkp)

632 I don’t buy into the old mind that British food is horrible. That is like the old line that the French never won a battle, even though they win more than any other country in history. I know that the press for sure were before us when it came to television cooking and just admiring the art of fine cuisine. In my experience that didn’t make the average UK restaurant particularly good although the pub food was good such as sticky toffee pudding.

I think even the present king what said his favorite British food was Indian food. I know I first learned about Rogan Josh from the TV show the thin blue line. Even today I judge an Indian place, but it’s Rogan Josh.

634 I have also had the classic British cuisine such as high tea and the cooked meats at I think it was called brownards in London. Heck I even had Tex-Mex in London at the Texas Embassy. That was a cool restaurant with just so so food but the cool thing about it. It was it was just across from the original Texas embassy from the Republic of Texas.. back in the day probably no one loved London as much as I did. I do think the bricks are big into food, but to me. The average American restaurant is better.. I stand by my advice that if you really want to find Primo cuisine while traveling to a new country, do some research.

Way back in the mists of time, when retail theft was frowned upon, a common tactic was to fill the winter coat of a small child with goodies (batteries, film, etc). Even if caught they can't do anything to the kid.

However, and I can't emphasize this enough, the kids don't keep the merchandise. We need to restore the status quo ante.

It's like an Augmentio ad Absurdum. "Baffle 'em with bullshit". Pile contradictions on top of contradictions, "yeah but then" on top of "yeah but then", until it seems like the issue is logically intractable, and then appeal directly to emotion. Just about every top level policy issue in the western world is argued in this fashion.

645 Deport the parents and the kid.
"But the kids" is the kind of garbage the left uses to justify all kind of things.

Your humanity? You mean your virtue signaling. Piss on that.
Deport. Deport. Deport.
I live in AZ and my mother was injured twice by illegal alien drivers, one of whom was a teenager.
You can shove your humanity where the sun doesn't shine.
