Trump is taking out the trash, and he's taking it to a Marine base in Cuba.

He's moving them to the terrorist detention facility at Guantanamo because, if you remember (I didn't), he directed the classification of Tren de Aragua as a terrorist organization.

I don't know if it's really that but I'm not going to stand on ceremony.

The first 10 "high threat" members of the violent Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua (TdA) have been transferred to Guantanamo Bay, marking a major escalation in the U.S. crackdown on illegal migrant criminals.
Key Details:
The Department of Defense (DOD) confirmed the detainees' arrival at Guantanamo Bay, where they will be held in vacant detention facilities.
President Donald Trump recently signed an executive order directing agencies to designate TdA as a "foreign terrorist organization."
Over 100 TdA members were arrested in federal raids in Aurora, Colorado, as part of a broader effort to combat the gang's influence in the U.S.

The Biden administration's failure to curb illegal immigration allowed violent international gangs like Tren de Aragua to spread across the U.S. However, under President Donald Trump's leadership, the federal government has taken a sharp turn toward aggressive enforcement. These individuals, all of whom have been identified as part of the Venezuelan criminal organization, are being held in vacant detention facilities. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated that Gitmo will be used exclusively for the "worst of the worst" criminals. Tren de Aragua has become a growing threat, operating from New York City to Colorado. The gang has been linked to violent crimes, including human trafficking, drug smuggling, and extortion. 14 I spent three lovely years stationed at GITMO. First we had the haitian refugees and then the cuban refugees after castro opened his prisons up and told everyone to leave for the United States.

Before that happened GITMO was the best kept secret station in the Navy. It counted as sea duty and it was a laid back base where we all took off on Friday afternoon and went to the Chiefs club. It was a fishing and scuba diving paradise.

Tren De Aragua is more than just a gang. They work with the current Venezuelan government. They took out a Venezuelan dissident who was living in Chile on orders from the Maduro government not long ago.

Gangs are essentially paramilitary organizations. Like the cartels, they rule through terror. Being beheaded by someone with a profit motive instead of a religious one makes little difference. You only have to look at the failed state to our south to know what they'd bring here, or even to our own inner city enclaves that are de facto no-go zones. Viewing this all as just another law-enforcement job is a mistake, and doing so has failed. If we'd simply killed everyone wearing sporting gang colors or tats decades ago, the country would have been better off. The constitution isn't a suicide pact. Shipping was at a premium and had to be used as efficiently as possible. Gitmo would require heavy food shipments and was outside the main shipping lanes.

Putting the POWs in the center of the country, where food is grown, and they could help grow it, was the sensible thing to do.

It was all expected and Trump's team has been turning out excellent legal briefs why they are legally doing what actions they have undertaken.

A lot of these TROs are going to be dissolved in higher courts because of solid caselaw and statutory/constitutional authority given to the President. OrangeManBad and dogs and cats living together are not persuasive legal arguments if not to a bunch of super antiquated Senior Status judges, then to their court of appeals or Scotus.

Re the German POW camps. A retired engineer with Daniel moved in our area back in the late '80s. He was a former POW, captured on a U-boat back in WWII.

He like it so much here, once he was repatriated after the war, he immediately began working to get back here, which he did.

So, think of that. Our POWs liked it so much, they moved back.

This is not a new thing. Both cuba and haiti did the same thing back in 94. haiti made it even worse and kicked out all of their HIV positive people. The Navy and Coast Guard rounded them up on their way to the US and brought them to GITMO. That's why we had/have room on the base for 30,000+ people. We built two entire tent cities to house them and they are still there in addition to Camp X-ray where the terrorists are held.

You could literally smell the Navy and Coast Guard ships pulling into the harbor. We would have to hose down the entire ship after we processed the "refugees". Piss, $hit and vomit covered the entire ship.

There's a good history book still to be written on German POWs in the US. The early ones were no problem but when the SS guys arrived there was more tension.

But on the whole, it worked out well all around. Farmers got a lot of reliable labor and the prisoners were well fed. A good many wanted to stay.

My grandfather was at one point assigned to guarding POWs at Ft. Knox. The POWs worked for local farmers per the convention, and got along famously with them. One refused repatriation and lived after the war with the family he worked for, and since none of the kids wanted it, he inherited the farm.

Also their order of attack has been perfect - now MAYBE it was just coincidence.... but if you really want to make sure the other side doesn't jump back and try to take you out, you lock down the Dep't of Defense first with new leadership. Then establish control over CIA, DOJ, FBI. After that you can start with less dangerous agencies, and taking out the money laundering first of these was brilliant! After that just line 'em up and knock em down, go through everything.

I think the outrage against the courts if they try to stop it is simply going to grow as the list of looters and their wasting ways spreads all over the nation.
But basically Trump is exactly following what Roberts and other justices on the right have decided in past cases. Makes it harder to say Orange Man Bad precedent and I think Trump now owns Roberts from his misdeeds running the FISA court. A lot of those Resistance judges also served on that lawless court and a recent decision in New York District court holding FISA as unconstitutional as applied to US citizens is likely to be a hot potato.

The judges cannot rely on the media to cover up their shit anymore.

He like it so much here, once he was repatriated after the war, he immediately began working to get back here, which he did.

I have noted the way the EOs are presented on the White House website. I appreciate that they do seem to be quite complete in presenting the rationale. I am kind of confused by what you're saying, though. Do you mean that you think they will survive legal challenges or will at least some fail because they stray beyond the Constitutional powers of the Executive?

The prisoners my grandfather guarded were Afrika Korps, many of whom spoke better English than their guards.

This does a bit of a disservice to our GIs, though. I mean there was a reason these guys ended up stateside rather than at the tip of the spear.

My grandfather got the gig because he started out as an education officer (setting up OCS at colleges) and then was company adjutant for a prison guard unit. Eyesight kept him from going overseas, which is how my dad and uncle were born during the war.

191 Growing up in the 60's, my dad used to show me some wooden barracks in South Phoenix that were used to hold some German prisoners during the war. (it became an NG facility after that, which is why it hung around) It really didn't have much security, just a barbed wire fence, and several of the Germans escaped over the fence and into the desert one night, hoping to get to Mexico - and then they found out why no one thought it was necessary to put much effort into fencing. Their plan was to travel overland at night about 60 miles south to the Gila River, where they would build a raft and try to get down towards Mexico. They had gotten a map and had it all worked out, and about a half dozen managed to make it down to the Gila.
And there they found out the one thing their map couldn't tell them, and something they had never seen in Germany - the Gila is nothing but baked sand for 10 months out of the year.

There's a fascinating page on Gitmo at Wikipedia (yes, I know). Apparently we got a great deal on a perpetual lease of the land. Once Castro came to power they protested the long-ago-approved lease, but haven't done much to stop it. They have only cashed ONE of our lease checks since Castro came to power--some sort of protest, and claim the one that was cashed was clerical error.

I am gonna out myself a bit as I used to teach Constitutional Law-Powers every year for about twenty years among other legal classes I taught such as Administrative Law and Criminal Procedure. I am familiar with the constitutional and administrative arguments that are involved in these cases.

IMHO, Trump's lawyers are filing court briefs that are erudite, loaded with appropriate precedents and case law, and appear to not be written on the fly. That means Trump anticipated legal challenges and a lot of the expected briefs were probably already drafted after November elections.

The plaintiff arguments and judge's orders so far are not up to snuff and show ignorance and desperation rather than legal arguments. They did not anticipate this barrage and the judges are issuing place holder injunctions instead of reasoned ones because the plaintiffs have given them little enough straw to build a legal opinion supporting the injunctions.

People are talking about going after Medicare and Medicaid fraud, waste, and abuse. No doubt those are rich with all three, but they'll be more like systemic FWA, there won't be individuals who can have it pinned on them.

Had a dull debate with a bone fide rocket surgeons regarding the oath to support the Constitution.

TLDR - We swore to uphold The Constitution, not what some Nazgul says it means. Maybe a moot point as we're not in any position that it matters... Trump can just point out that Judge Pakalolo's decision is unconstitutional and it would be a violation to comply. Or just ignore it as just noise.

I had a buddy who was an Administrative Judge for food stamp cases. 85% of the fraud people never showed up for their hearings and he just cancelled their accounts. The problem was getting people in the program to go out and find the people who were committing fraud and turn them in.

I consider plaintiff arguments to be exactly on that level and the judges that are using that to justify actions that violate ripeness, standing, and several other justiciability bars to lawsuits. For example, a decision to bar voluntary separations at the behest of unions has an obvious and glaring standing problem. Halting an agency audit before it is conducted lacks ripeness, standing, and violates political question doctrine. And so on.

American culture is more German than English. We do not observe tea time. Our "national" foods (hamburgers, hot dogs) are German. Germans treat hunting as a sport for every free man; England treats it is the preserve of the elite.

I could (and have) gone on. Did a couple of TDYs in Germany and found the locals friendly (especially once they realized I spoke German) and relatable.

I did get a strange look from one guy, who glanced down at my name while I was talking to him (in uniform) and clearly wondered why an American with a British surname spoke his language. I explained I was German on my mother's side, and he became even more friendly.
