Final Biden Jobs Report Extremely Weak at 143,000 Jobs Added; Democrats Blame Biden's Poor Showing on Trump

Obviously. Of course.

Oh, and happy Friday! Boy these weeks are long. The Trump Administration makes so much news I sign off every day knowing I covered half of it (at best) and not feeling that I'm actually done.

Not complaining, mind you.

The latest jobs report confirms what many have warned about for years--the Biden economy was far weaker than it appeared. Job growth slowed in January, with only 143,000 new positions added. In a statement, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the report proves "the necessity of President Trump's pro-growth policies" and reaffirms the administration's commitment to reversing the economic failures of the previous administration.

Key Details:

The U.S. added just 143,000 jobs in January, falling short of the 170,000 economists had expected.

The unemployment rate dropped slightly to 4%, the lowest since May 2024, but hiring remains sluggish.

Wage growth came in stronger than expected, with a 4.1% increase over the past year. While wages rose, inflation concerns persist as the Federal Reserve faces mounting pressure on interest rates.

Diving Deeper:

The Biden administration's economic mismanagement continues to cast a shadow over the country, as Friday's job reportrevealed a sluggish labor market struggling to regain its footing. Reacting to the report, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt made it clear that these numbers highlight the damage left behind and why President Trump's economic policies are needed now more than ever.

"Today's jobs report reveals the Biden economy was far worse than anyone thought and underscores the necessity of President Trump's pro-growth policies," Leavitt stated. She pointed to Trump's early executive actions, including his declaration of a national energy emergency and sweeping regulatory cuts, as the foundation for a robust economic turnaround.

...

While the mainstream media may attempt to spin this report as a consequence of Trump, the reality is that Americans are still feeling the pain of Biden's policies. With President Trump now working aggressively to reverse course, his administration has made it clear: the era of economic decline is over, and America's comeback is just beginning.

The reporting period ran from mid-December 2024 to January 12 2025 -- in other words, during Biden's "presidency."

Every single month in 2024 just got revised down in today’s jobs report—by an average of -626k. And if that wasn’t bad enough, the BLS business employment dynamics data and the Philly Fed’s early benchmark suggest even bigger downward revisions coming in the next annual update. Buckle up.

The plaintiffs specifically cite the prospect of DOGE teams accessing BLS data, which is some of the most closely watched and market-sensitive macroeconomic information in the world. [ that has been complete shit for the last 4 years ]
"A DOGE takeover of the type seen at other agencies could overturn over a century of the BLS's independence and turn it from a reliable source of data across the economy into a far less valuable political mouthpiece," the plaintiffs write. [ I can't stop laughing ]

Yes, we know they manipulate the numbers all the time. Under Obama, the headline would be "500,000 jobs gained in September!" then in October, there would be a small correction on page 27 of the newspapers saying "last months job report was devised down by 220,000" or whatever.

With Trump last time, it was the opposite.

But my argument is -- how do we know that any numbers are real? Clearly theyre not above manipulating the numbers to help / hurt the presidents / agendas they have feelings about.

So how can we trust anything they say?

Yeah, NY has hamlets. Anyways, the Hamptons are where the rich NYC people have their summer homes.

But on that note, my girlfriend has a side hustle where she ends up interacting with a lot of very wealthy people in the NYC / Hamptons world. Names you'd have heard of.

One of her clients 4 year old kids was telling her she was so worried that her nanny would be kicked out of the country.

When my girlfriend told me that, I laughed out loud. These people own a mansion in Sag Harbor, has to be worth $15 million + plus a 3-story penthouse in the upper east side, probably worth about the same.

And yet they are hiring illegals for their domestic staff? I mean, cmon!

AND they're telling their young children about it and acting like they're the victims here? "What shall we do if the third shift nanny gets deported?! It's a travesty!"

No, that is entirely bullshit.

Also, who set up this system? Who designed these bullshit degrees with endless student loans and the fake degrees? Why, the very same people now shitting on the Americans who followed the rules and went to those colleges and got pounded with massive loans and now claim they need to hire people from the third world, who, trust me, have far worse education than Americans.

To save $20k a year in salary on Americans, they would rather destroy the country. Outsource manufacturing, import people to do the blue and white collar jobs. Then what? What about the hundreds of millions of people who actually fucking live here and have lived here for generations, paying taxes, fighting in wars, dealing with all of the daily bullshit we deal with? Fuck 'em? So that MSFT's stock can go up slightly in the short term?

But...government workers draw salaries from taxes places on the economy and for the most part generate no, or in some cases, negative value out of their labor.

So weird.

But, government numbers are no more than agitprop anymore. They're not convincing in and of themselves. They're convincing if they align with people's experiences of the economy.

That perception is much bigger. And if things get cheaper, rents go down because of mass deportations, and job openings start taking native born Americans again, the perception is going to be...persuasive.

Posted by: Hawaiian Judge at February 07, 2025 01:19 PM (l3YAf)

100% this. They show up on various visas to get a job that they will only get because they check DEI boxes and will work for cheaper. Many of them come from India, which has a literal caste system, and immediately start crying racism.

They get in to positions of power and only hire people from India from their caste. Look at any picture of teams of people at Microsoft. Does that look like it reflects the racial composure of America? Zero black people, maybe half wife people (many of whom are women in bullshit HR jobs), and the rest Indian or Asian.

And by all accounts they are inferior employees who suck at their jobs, routinely lie and cheat and most of they committed visa fraud and lied on their job applications by fabricating a resume that everyone knows is fake but it's all a wink and a nod.

And for all of this, big tech gets to pay them slightly less than they would pay an American college grad. So shareholders are happy.

I earnestly believe that although the "western" model of civilization has been under attack since its inception, that the attacks sped and broadened after roughly half of our country during Clinton's 2nd term made the direct choice to choose "party" over *principles*. Once that divide was crossed and God chose not to strike them with lightning that very instant, they began to convince themselves that "anything goes, so long as I get what I want".

That, in my mind, was a significant turning point to where we ended up in 2025, but nationally and abroad (since the World tends to follow our dictates).

Unfortunately, yes, that means following US Employment laws, including collecting taxes, paying overtime, providing workers comp insurance, being open to potential lawsuits for all of their (inevitable) labor law violations etc. etc.

That reminds me of one post I saw where apparently an American woman had found out one of these working moms needed a nanny and talked with her about it. The working mom was *raging* that the American woman had asked for $20/h. Now again keep in mind that was at the time the left was going bonkers about demanding "living wages"

And letting Trump then claim even greater reductions over the next 4 years; instead of say, 4% to 3% under the old, it'll be 13% to 5% under the actual.

You are wrong on many levels.

First off, H1B is the foothold for most of these people. O1 visas are also used for the same thing.

There are many many unemployed coders in the US. I know several professionally, and at least one personally.

There is not some natural reason why our colleges are filling so many slots with foreign students. It's because foreign students pay full boat tuition.

And the people we are importing are, almost to a person, less qualified and make Americans companies less competitive than if they hired Americans to do those jobs.

But really most importantly -- in your mind, what is a country? A shared culture, language, peoples? Or just a piece of land where we barely co-exist?

99.9% yeah. Cruise ships dump a ton of crap out in the oceans too. The way I understand it is that there's no actual "floating island of trash the size of [hysterical huge item]" in the ocean. Its an estimate of the total amount of crap in the ocean and then combining it as if it somehow congealed in one spot.

There are probably some places with a convection or currents that combine a bunch of stuff into an area, but not these "the size of Hawaii!!" claims.

I’m sitting here in my office enjoying every delicious moment of this “Big Balls” story.

These communist clowns still think they’re in charge of what news to isolate, polarize and weaponize. But, they’re not. Not even close. Between Trump’s massive megaphone and this enormous army of MAGA content creators and influencers we have the power to take a media story like “Big Balls” and make it a hilarious rallying cry where the media IS THE JOKE.
Old school media still hasn’t caught up. They’re still living in the Cronkite era. It’s so satisfying to watch.

Like what? Be specific, please. Because I'm not willing to force Americans to compete against indentured servants and pretend everything is business as usual.

For the record, it's my position that there are likely not even ten jobs in America that someone from a country without indoor plumbing would be better trained and more qualified for, but it's mostly just a matter of not wanting to pay the employee or have the indentured servitude / deportation threat hanging over their 80+ hour week if they get uppity.

Conveniently the govt has been actively working against hiring white men at the same time a caste system has been literally put in place around the nation. That's not an insult or a joke. The caste system is alive and well in hiring, promoting, etc.

Of course, this was a fundraising activity, so I expect a fair amount of markup.

292 Look, I have such a bug up my ass about immigration because I watch it first hand. I have a client that is a small'ish immigration law firm.

I'm not involved in the actual immigration work, but obviously lawyers talk.

I'm telling you, the rampant fraud is out of control.

AND the most frustrating part to me is I work with / know a lot of these people who came here as white collar immigrants. They talk about us the same way Vivek does. "Americans are stupid, fat, lazy, they don't work hard" etc. etc. so they won't hire Americans, they call all white people racist, they hate our country, our culture, and everything about it. They think America is just one big scam land and their goal in life is to get a piece of that scam money for themselves and their families.

To me, this is by far the biggest medium term threat our country faces. The government admits that over 15% of people living in the US right now were not born here. Obviously the number is much higher when we count illegals.

What happens when they all start voting? And their kids start voting?

Do you think they will vote the same way they did back home, or will they vote like Americans?

People who think "oh, we need them here to do really crappy coding jobs that Americans then have to constantly go back and fix" are missing the geopolitical side of the entire thing.

This is an invasion, no different than what's happening with the cartels and the illegals. Just a different approach.

Why yes, pawn, as a matter of fact, I have worked in a technical field at various companies for *decades*, and yes, I am familiar with the pressure of quality vs staffing.

Yes, overall H1Bs have a negative effect, because (like many things our so-called elites do) there are too fcking many of them and most are brought in for the wrong reasons (not who they look like - how cheap they are, for starters).

... although maybe it's not H1Bs that are causing difficulty for the example coder in question - maybe that person refused to get the clot shot.

One town I lived in went from middle class American, to upper middle class/lower upper class Indian and it was funny to watch it happen in slow motion. After a certain point most of the new restaurants were Indian, we got "antiracism" groups that complained about the treatment of the (literally) one black family in town but were all staffed by Indians and on and on. I watched a significant percentage of the townies, who had been there for generations, taxed out of the family home...

But suffice to say my job means I'm involved with a lot of tech companies and as such, I'm heavily involved with the firms who do the immigration paperwork for the tech companies on behalf of the people they hire from the third world and those peoples families.

As far as does an American have to look like me? I know where you're going with this, but let me turn it around: what does it mean to be an American?

You can get illegals through hiring agencies. It's big business. Most of the nannies and domestic workers are hired this way. Who knows how thorough the vetting is, but in theory any red flags should be found.

The agencies gets its vig. It's still much cheaper than hiring Americans to do the work, and the workers are much more compliant. They really really really need these jobs.

Remember, it wasn't long ago that mothers trusted 12-year-old girls in the neighborhood to babysit their kids.

353 Generalizing replacing American workers with H1Bs is just hyperbole.

H1Bs (as designed) are hired in specific work areas where companies demonstrated that there were less American or Green Card holders available to do the job.

The program has been badly abused and needs a complete overhaul. I agree hands down but the concept is sound.

I am hoping this can happen because we are in a race with the Chinese for technical domination. Right now we are 5-10 ahead but they are catching up.

Are you willing to gamble your grandkids future just because you don't like foreigners.

I've seen more seriously FU situations in technical situations caused by good-old-boy, church buddy, cousin, looks good in a sweater reasons aside not to mention hubris and elitism than anything else.

How many H1Bs are there in the US currently?

354 344 I remember when all the bad things were attributable to Richard Nixon, then Reagan, then Bush The Dead And then Bush The Living and now it's all Trumps fault.

Good Times, good times.

I especially remember when Nixon started the Vietnam War back in '63 and escalated it in '65. Bastard!

355 As I remember, it depends on your final day of work. If you get a payout and are let go, you can file. But if they are paying, you are still on payroll with a final date in the future, you can't get it till the enda date.

357 They’re not competitive; most of them are deadweight. I had to keep our H1Bs away from anything important because they’d inevitably break it.

Our experience (the wifey, me, and friends) in the software development industry a couple of decades ago: not only do they break it, but then we get called in to inevitably fix it.

If you find a good one, well he's working 2 jobs and if the other one takes off he's AWOL, or he quits to find his own stable and the company in India will just lie about why progress has stopped for as long as the checks come.

Posted by: pawn at February 07, 2025 02:12 PM (QB+5g)

I am not willing to gamble my grandkids future, which is why we need to stop this massive influx of foreigners.

It's really that simple.

As far as the fear mongering about China -- interesting that they're able to do so well without a massive influx of third world immigrants to their country. Maybe we should take a closer look at how they're able to pull that off and replicate that.

359 The "elites" in this country decided they didn't like the people who lived here for various reasons and that they were going to punish them and replace them with new people. Not just in the US, but in every western country. Preferably people who are used to corruption and ineffective government and have no concept of small government / individualism / etc. and won't say anything.

I don't know if there is a word for that. I don't think it's been tried before.

Empires in the past would often settle groups in distant provinces in hopes they would assimilate there or if not that be smaller and easier to put down troubles. Also help eliminate problems if they have allies across the border to move them 500 miles away.

Posted by: Oldcat at February 07, 2025 02:22 PM (n7h9X)

360 And to people calling this an invasion, that's not really the right word.

361 The agencies gets its vig. It's still much cheaper than hiring Americans to do the work, and the workers are much more compliant. They really really really need these jobs.

Remember, it wasn't long ago that mothers trusted 12-year-old girls in the neighborhood to babysit their kids.

It also helps that a lot of grads of supposedly decent colleges can't program for shit and won't tell you either.

362 Interestingly enough, during the 1930s and 1940s government unemployment figures did not count

Farmers
Ranchers
Government including Military, Post Office, et al

And it reached 25%

Government statistics are queer as a $3 bill, and have been since the 1970s, along with pretty much everything else

363 "Maybe we should take a closer look at how they're able to pull that off and replicate that."

Where were you when it was time for your son or daughter to do there math homework?

All these anecdotal stories are cute.

BTW, there are 65,000 H1Bs total, independent of what they do in the US.

What am I saying? I'm on a blog where people are proud to hate math.

366 They say they should be let in because they’re not dangerous people, or thieves, or robbers.

Bullshit on that. All of them were for putting Donald Trump in prison, censorship, forcing injections on people, destroying their lives when they refused. All of those are dangerous to body and liberty, the Constitution and the law. As for the thieves and robbers part, the comedy hits just keep on coming. How many of those shits that were in front of that door became or will soon become millionaires because of their public office? 100% is a good opening estimate.

367 BTW, since DOGE is looking at the numbers that no one in DC cares to see.....hmmm....H1Bs are hauling away less than 0.0004 percent of the total wages in the US.

Huge problem.

372 Here's a weird "anomaly" (i.e., evidene that BLS can't keeps its falsehoods straight) -- The payrolls report shows 143K jobs added in January, and the Household survey used to determine the unemployment rate shows total employment increasing by an off-the-charts (not kidding) 2.2 MILLION ... in ONE MONTH.
