And one of the toniest, most exclusive towns in America, if not the world, is getting it good and hard.

East Hampton government officials are trying to quell wealthy residents’ fears that local police could deport illegal migrants from the tony town — many of whom work as maids, landscapers, and nannies to support the luxurious lifestyles of the well-off locals.

East Hampton Village Police Chief Jeffrey Erickson stressed that local law enforcement do not have authority to enforce federal law — and won’t hold onto undocumented immigrants if given an ICE detainer. East Hampton Village Police Chief Jeffrey Erickson stressed that local law enforcement do not have authority to enforce federal law — and won’t hold onto undocumented immigrants if given an ICE detainer. The sentiment was echoed by East Hampton Town Police Chief Michael Sarlo at a separate meeting.
“Our level of participation and cooperation with ICE lies in criminal matters,” Sarlo told the town board at a meeting Tuesday.
“I haven’t seen an ICE agent in this town in I can’t tell you how long.”
“You see what I’m wearing here,” Sarlo said dramatically pointing to his firearm, “People who wear this and put this on don’t interfere with other people who wear this and put this on because then people die. You don’t step in front of an Immigration Enforcement officer in uniform with a gun and a badge who’s taking his action.”
“That’s for attorneys to get involved in and that is for policies and procedures through the state to get involved,” he added.Some East Hampton residents were grateful for the reassurance that their undocumented employees and neighbors will be able to avoid deportation.
“I think it’s a very good idea and very helpful considering we have a very large community here, and people rely on them,” Alex Lovett, of East Hampton, told News12.
“They’ve been a vital part of the community for a very long time,” she empathized.
The local officials said a major purpose for the small-scale messaging campaign is to assure undocumented residents that they can interact with police without fear of deportation.
“If they’re a victim of a crime, we don’t want them to fear the police, we want them to call us so we can protect them,” Erickson said in an interview to the local news station. . .
. . . Also on Tuesday, the East Hampton Town Board held a two-hour public hearing where members of the Latino community expressed their concerns over the Trump administration’s new immigration policies.
Sandra Melendez — an East Hampton Village trustee, immigration attorney, and Spanish speaker –addressed the community and stressed that they are not obligated to cooperate with ICE, the local paper reported.
At that town board hearing Councilwoman Cate Rogers stated that the well-heeled townies will remain vigilant as the federal government attempts to enforce immigration law. “The rules are being rewritten by the second,” the councilwoman said, according to the East Hampton Star. “I want to assure everyone that this is the beginning of a conversation. It’s not a one-and-done statement, ‘Okay we did our job let’s move on.’ We’re invested. We’re your neighbors, and we’re with you.” This resistance-style approach taken by the officials in East Hampton is a far cry from the actions taken by authorities elsewhere on Long Island.
Earlier this week, Nassau County police were granted authority to help ICE arrest criminal migrants under a new agreement with the Trump administration.

First of all, any elected official who is interfering with federal law enforcement agents from carrying out their duties is committing a felony and should be charged, tried, convicted and imprisoned. Tom Homan to his credit has stated he wil be going after anyone and everyone who does this. I hope he slaps cuffs on that fat barrel of goo and lipids JB Sitz-Pritzker and anyone else with a notion to "resist."

Like I said, good and hard! Beyond them, any citizen who employs an illegal alien is harboring a criminal and as such is committing a felony themselves! Fines, property seizures and imprisonment will focus minds good and hard, n'est ce pas?

Here's an idea. The big lie Lefties always belch up is how illegals are doing the jobs Americans refuse to do? What if Dominicans, Puerto Ricans and Latinos of other stripes (actual legal citizens) who live in shitholes like Spanish Harlem and the South Bronx decided to declare themselves as migrants and drift out to the Hamptons looking for sanctuary! Now that would be hilarious. Hey Hamptons lefties, I've got your nannies and maids and gardeners right here! (presupposes our native-born welfare queens and layabout victims of the Great Society want to actually work.) Then again, being on the beach in East Hampton is a damn shot nicer than dog crap, garbage and crack pipe strewn 125 street or Morris Avenue.

Trump did NOT actually create a new agency. Instead what he did was repurpose an existing agency - the USDS - into something more useful.
The USDS was an Obamacare office created to make government software better. They were essentially software development for the bureaucracy.
Trump renamed the United States Digital Service (USDS) the United States DOGE Service which even kept the acronym the same.
Not only did repurposing an appropriate existing department allow Trump to ensure there was funding for DOGE without having to fight with Congress - he also ensured its legality.

DOGE isn't manipulating any data. They are only looking at it. Not even making copies. They're doing not-so-simple database queries on what they see, running reports and acting on that.

Trump has the authority to do all that. Even the cabinet heads do. All the way down to the branch manager at Agency X, Y or Z.

To do this Trump referenced another law 5 USC 3161. This law governs the creation of and staffing for what is known as a “temporary organization” in the government.

By including this group as temporary, Trump dodged several potential lawsuits as he may not have been able to create his own new administrative entity on a permanent basis without Congressional approval.

The last part of the post is all important boilerplate.

This was further insulation to make this harder for political opponents to fight in court.
Last point. I don’t like that this has to be done and think the executive branch has far more authority than they should.

The former head of policy for immigration and drug enforcement for Biden is involved in trafficking. There is an investigative reporter that just dropped the receipts, including the offshore bank accounts of officials involved. He gave it to the AG in Guatemala yesterday. The thirty hours rule is NOT a filibuster as cloture had already been invoked. It is essentially a period allowed to further investigate a nominee before the floor vote happens. It applies to nominations for Court of Appeals, Scotus, and every head of a major department (of which the OMB is one of them). But, it is 30 hours of debate that can (and has been ended on non controversial nominees via unanimous consent).

But if the Senate majority leader so desires, you can move the Senate to 24/7 session and use up those thirty hours that way.

It is sort of like the problem with the War Powers Act. Every president (D and R) has held that it was unconstitutional infringement of commander in chief powers and it was passed over the veto of Gerald Ford.

Congress is afraid of pushing actually shutting down troop actions via the scheduled time frame which the War Powers Act requires. If Congress tried to follow that, then WPA might then be considered by the courts as unconstitutional and Congress would lose the WPA reporting function aka Gang of 8 etc. Generally Congress itself has plenary power over taxing, spending, and borrowing. As a result, courts frown upon Congress trying to use unconstitutional means to do something when it has the power literally to cut off funding to unapproved ventures abroad.

Trump apparently has competent legal teams this term where I think in his first term, a lot of his legal appointees were in on the plot to resist him using his powers.

I've been reading the court filings by the administration and they appear sound with appropriate legal arguments such as questioning federal employee unions having standing to actually be able to prevent a buyout of individuals.

Ditto for the DOGE decision which the Trump administration did a consent decree which kept their Treasury DOGE special employees in place after his team already raided that data. I think the two Treasury DOGE affiliate employees are there primarily to prevent destruction of evidence by careerists trying to cover the tracks of their criminal and reckless actions.

Not interested in working hard, pushing for 4-day work weeks, pushing for remote work (where they don't realize that companies can easily replace them with remote workers outsourced in other countries).

Gen Z is also all over TikTok with stupid "content". Isn't Gen Z less religious and less into marriage or having families as well?

I'd like to hope that Gen Z is the pendulum swinging back to conservatism and traditional America cultural values, but other than a small subset, I'm not sure I see it in the generation as a whole.
