Drama Yoni Jake Tapper is concerned about our military community again:
"Tapper went on to wonder why Musk was handed access to a payment system that includes 'your Social Security benefits, your tax refunds and payments to federal workers and contractors having up to more than $5 trillion a year.' The anchor also produced a letter he claimed was that of a friend who worked as a psychologist for the Department of Veteran Affairs. Tapper claimed his friend had received the letter - which urged her to resign - four times in the last two weeks. 'Her job is making sure that veterans with post-traumatic stress don't kill themselves, and she is worried,' he said." (source: Daily Mail) Going forward, every vet who suicides themselves is Trump's fault. (and, yes, 'yoni' is a euphemism for vagina) Posted by: one hour sober at February 04, 2025 02:20 PM (Y1sOo) 9

Maybe create a clawback exemption for departments, allowing them an award for unspent funds. She was running something to make graphs of the convoluted funding paths. You may have seen the Bill Kristol snippet. Wrong. It puts an enormous amount of particulates in the air. If you want to breathe that stuff, China has some lovely cities you can visit. Bring a respirator. Mining also destroys the land, leaving behind pools of toxic chemicals requiring expensive remediation. I live in coal country and the amount of damage it’s done to the health of our people is shocking. Coal made sense in the past when we were a poorer country, but hasn’t made any sense since the development of pressurized water reactors in the 60s. It’s literal caveman-level technology. 20K federal employees out of 2+ million is a drop in the bucket. I'm betting most of those were on the cusp of retirement anyway. The first thing to know is that you can lose a lot of money real quick doing that.
Yeah, you're borrowing stocks at price X, selling them, and then buying them back at the current market price to replace them. So if the price of the stock goes down, you MAKE money (the difference in the price of the stock at the time you 'borrowed' it, vs the price you pay to replace it). BUT if the price of the stock goes up, well, you're going to lose money on the difference. Posted by: GMan at February 04, 2025 02:47 PM (GfWuY) 209

I have long advocated for a network of tire and garbage burning power plants.
I went to one of the Caribbean islands and we had a tour bus going to some sites. One of my other tourists noticed a big black cloud coming off of a hill and going out to sea and asked our your guide. "Oh that's where we burn our garbage". This got several of the other tourists, who I guess were lefties, annoyed. One asked how they could handle it this way instead of recycling? And the tour guide look at her and said "Oh we don't have landfills like you have for you recycling because our island is too small" and...it was perfect. Absolutely perfect. I saw Senator Peter Welch whining about Trump and Musk and their "destruction" of the federal work force this morning on CNBC. He particularly hates Musk, and argues DOGE is "unauthorized and illegal", ignoring the fact the President can hire whomever he wants (with some people subject to Senate review and approval, though not Musk).
The real point is the Democrats hate the pace of change. The interviewer finally honed in on that and got Welch to say rapid change is confusing him and his automatic reaction is negative. He understands, he claims, the need for change, and he understands, he claims, that spending $6 trillion per year is unsustainable. He just is afraid to fix the problem. RDF actually works but it won't be economical at it's demonstrated price point. I think getting the process and economics defined and demonstrated was the point of building and operating those plants. It's the same as PVs were in the 80s but the government chose to shut down the subsidies when Regan started winding down alternative fuels.
RDF looks very similar to wood pellets but it's made out of dried garbage and other stuff that usually ends up in a landfill. No real smell as I recall. Not sure about emissions. Posted by: Tulsi at February 04, 2025 04:03 PM (QB+5g) 488
