Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Monday Overnight Open Thread - February 3, 2025 [Doof]![]() Howdy Hordelings, and a good Monday evening to you all! You have many choices when it comes to your late night hangout. We appreciate you making the wise decision of stopping by tonight's ONT!
Making Playgrounds Great Again - In The Netherlands Dutch Bring Back Risky Play–Parks Where Kids Climb, Sword-fight with Sticks and Build with Hammers ![]() Parts of Dutch society are campaigning to bring risky playgrounds back into their cities and towns as concerns about too much time spent indoors, helicopter parenting, and childhood diabetes risk grow. Some are merely advocating playgrounds with potentially dangerous toys, such as a merry-go-round, but others are seeking places for their children to start fires, build with hammers, and play flight with sticks. No one wants their children to be injured of course, but the policy proposal from the D66 liberal democrats, which currently holds 7 seats in parliament, acknowledges that without spaces to explore and challenge themselves in, kids risk losing the opportunity to develop crucial skills. “Rufty-tufty playing means that children might get a bump or a cut,” according to the policy—but it’s an acceptable risk the authors determine. “The inspiration, and it really is a huge problem, is that children are hardly moving,” said Rob Hofland, head of the local D66 to the Guardian. “All kinds of problems stem from just sitting behind a screen.” *** In Amsterdam, some parents and organizations are taking this principle to the extreme: in the form of Woeste Westen, or “Wild West.” In this radical play space, kids can go fishing, climb trees, build huts, start and cook with open fires, and play with real tools like hammers and knives—all in the name of helping them develop the mental-physical coordination that an adult relies upon to navigate potentially dangerous situations. Woeste Westen highlights how every time a parent says “watch out!” or “don’t do that!” the child loses one more instance where they may have better prepared themselves for adulthood. Of course there will be scrapes, bruises, a scar or two, but who said a painless life is preferable? The ONT endorses this wholeheartedly! Wholesome Content Awesomeness

Here is the title track - such a great song DJ Doof – Sad Anniversary Version The Day The Music Died ![]() On Feb. 3, 1959, young rock ’n’ roll stars Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson died in a small plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa. The early morning crash was immortalized as “the day the music died,” but in truth air travel during the winter of 1959 was a challenge, and the crash was just one of several during the first few days of February. I almost killed my grandmother's cat with a jart. I found them in her garage - it was a set with the darts and two foot wide plastic rings to aim to get them in.
So I put the rings on one side of the yard and ran to the other. My grandmother's cat though saw the rings and decided it looked like a great place to sit. Just as I tossed the first jart she ran out and flopped down right in the center of the ring I was aiming for. I dropped to one knee and prayed about as hard as I could to not hit the cat...and it landed about 2 inches from her. She took off, unscathed fortunately. Posted by: 18-1 at February 03, 2025 10:15 PM (t0Rmr) This is why I hate most modern historians as they really aren't. They have opinion, not source document rigor. I really appreciate more and more some of my History 'textbooks' from college, as they were required reading but were not dry history books. My fav is Page Smith, "A New Age Begins." Historian Smith uses the diary of a Pvt. Plum Martin, from CT, to tell the tale of America's founding, that new age; Martin survived and ended the war as a sgt. Smith weaves his diary into the larger picture of American Independence, a well-written and enjoyable read. Highly recommend. Posted by: RickZ at February 03, 2025 10:26 PM (gKDq2) 97

They actually got on very well but every so often, they'd get a bit snotty with each other. The Israeli would make a pistol with his fingers and pretend to shoot. The muzzies would hold up their ink pens and click them. Then everyone would laugh. Posted by: Diogenes at February 03, 2025 10:29 PM (W/lyH) 105

I had a friend who worked as a technician on movies, he was an extra once in a while. He would brag that he had a speaking role in Gargoyles, and I pressed him what he was. OTR Radio programs I listen to for sleeping, most of them are no commercials (except Chesterfields) so they work for me.
The spooky scary ones don’t usually do much for me, but there was one that just had it done right. Radio works differently, it is a theater of your mind, not visual. Just look at the morons she had to stand with during the demo nomination process. She took down Kammie in with a 10 second sound bite that she never recovered from. Posted by: pawn at February 04, 2025 02:38 AM (QB+5g) 354
Probably too late to get this one in, but the mention of the Twilight Zone episode where the dedicated team of surgeons try and fail to repair the face of a woman who turns out to be quite beautiful...unlike the faces of the medical team, which are distorted and off-putting from our frame of reference.
Jim Bruer has a great story about Norm Macdonald and a parody of that episode when Pamela Anderson hosted the show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rFu_u71gas Well worth the listen. Just stop and think about this for a minute. It's taking 12 hours of 48 CPUs (which I assume are the latest, greatest, and fastest) operating in parallel on the problem to unwind the USAID's funding network. That's how complex it is. And it was designed as such. Hell, I doubt they even bother to obfuscate the black projects at Area 51 this much. Its dead quiet here at night, almost spooky quiet. There is no wildlife. Yeah we got birds, an occasional deer, and maybe one squirrel. My old house had turkey, shit tons of squirrels, chip monks, rabbits, ducks. Maybe the water source was key, because there ain't shit here. It just hit me earlier today. We've noticed how all these leftwing lunatics, protestors, and even illegal alien caravan people seem to have nice clothes, cell phones, etc. And you wonder, where did they get the money for all this shit. USAID is where. The whole thing is a massive money laundering operation to get US taxpayer dollars into the coffers of these subversives and grifters. DataRepublican, in some sort of aside I didn't really understand (she's working on USAID now), found a grant from HHS to some NGO in Africa that was about processing "refugees" to come into the US. My hometown local newspaper had a bleating sob piece on funding loss for the “NGOs” that have been importing so-called refugees. Turned the town from pretty fucked up to really super fucked up in a hurry, which is obviously the plan, though no-one ever dared admit it publicly.

Morning, insomaniacals! And we have plenty good to be maniacal about: USAID being shut down, saving us untold billions; "resisting" staffers being sent to the woodshed; Trudeau and Mexico both giving in to Trump's tariff threats and agreeing to cooperate. Now, as someone pointed out here yesterday, Mexico sending 10K troops to the border may not work out well in practice. The cartels pretty much own the military, right? But it's a start, a start.
Countries around the world will respect the US again. It's okay if they fear us, as long as they respect us. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at February 04, 2025 03:42 AM (omVj0) 387
Freeland is the airhead in Canadia running their Treasury, correct? Tough to keep up. Saw a debate clip on the Tube that is You, with that Poilivent fellow. She couldn’t answer even basic questions. It was eerily similar to something one might see on Saturday Night Live, except I guess she was doing her best.

When was the last time, aside from Tump's first term, that countries respected the US? Reagan's terms, or Bush I? Did they fear and respect Billy Jeff or Bush II? Certainly they thought Jugears and MushBrain were jokes.

I'd love to see roads open up more, stores be less crowded, etc., because the illegals have been rounded up or are self-deporting. A dream come true.
