My research showed that it was not wise to relocate a wild box turtle. So he/she/it was left behind. Fifteen years and I still miss Turtle.

59 Musket vs. medieval breastplate. I dunno, I thought that early firearms could punch through armor (which is why people stopped wearing it).

Posted by: Ace at 07:41 PM

It's a bit more complex than that. Pikemen wore armor up until the 1700s (then bayonets got invented). Heavy cavalry wore breastplates (a "cuirass") up to the end of the 19th Century.

Before the Industrial Revolution, everything had to be made by hand. Armies got bigger, and it took more money. Muskets were adopted partly because they were relatively easy to use, as compared to bows.

It's hard to tell from the video, but there didn't seem to be a lot of recoil after the musket discharged. The powder charge may have been reduced. Also, breastplates were sometimes "proofed" by firing a pistol at it; that way the buyer would have assurance of the quality of the breastplate.

I had taken him home because he was tiny enough to fall through a storm grate where he was. One turtle I saw last summer for the first time in 5 years. Some musket ball hits on cavalryman's cuirass could unhorse him. And/or knock the wind out of him, break ribs, inflict severe contusions, and such. Mission kill. IIRC, several layers of clothing and/or padding were worn under the cuirass.

117 I have three box turtles who live on my property. They had all been in my turtle pen as pets at various times. One for 15 years. I had taken him home because he was tiny enough to fall through a storm grate where he was. One turtle I saw last summer for the first time in 5 years. The year before I met another I hadn't seen in 4 years. They seem to be fine foraging. I do plant lots of vegetables and they probably snatch some. They are hibernating now, usually wake up around first week of April. Posted by: Boxed-In

Because I don't know squat about box turtles I went to Wikipedia to learn something about them. I still don't know anything about box turtles. What I did learn from Wikipedia is your are monster for giving them a home.

212 I just wonder who leaked to the UNRWA that this was going to happen.

I say this because of video advertising I saw suddenly hit more than a week ago (maybe 10 days at the outside). YouTube preroll ads, mostly, though banner ads in other venues. Those ads were from the UNRWA, describing how its mission is vital and that this is *NOT* the time to stray from the course of pouring money into the UNRWA.

It hit quite suddenly. They got wind of what was about to happen and desperately tried some heartstrings advertising in an attempt to gain momentum. I wonder who told them.

Nobody. Plenty will make noise about it. Some - the stupidest, probably European - countries may even accept a few flights' worth of them. But *nobody* wants them. Their Arab brothers certainly don't - that's why they're in Gaza in the first place.

The Arabs are as a rule violent savages, but they are not to every last man absolutely unhinged psychotic. But there are plenty of genuine psychos, and they have to be dealt with or they overthrow your government as we see happen semi-routinely in Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, et. al.

Gaza - the Palestinian Territories more broadly, but especially Gaza - is in a Pan-Arabic penal colony for their dregs.

The only reason he has been able to see the kind of success he has is by flooding the zone. Without hitting them on all sides, continuously, with nothing off limits and an all-encompassing and continuously expanding scope, they will win. The only chance to get a foot in the door is through the administrative equivalent of blitzkrieg. That's what he's doing. The pace is grueling and probably *extremely* personally costly, but it's the only way he can make progress. He has to hit continuously from all side so they can't regroup.

If he slows down, he loses. He might be able to slow his roll in 3-6 months after solidifying his gains and reorganizing much of his subordinate agencies, but he *must* keep the pace to keep the enemy demoralized and off-balance, scrambling at every new strike and unable to regroup.

It's too dangerous, nothing left there, has been a place of misery and suffering so why do they want to stay... His diplomatic abilities were definitely in high gear. Then the work to bulldoze the place, find all the tunnels, etc... Then, MAGAZA. (No, Trump didn't call it that. Someone in the chat on the Livefeed I was watching said it.)

1. Amazon was looking for an exit strategy to get out from under the dead weight of a shitty and monstrously expensive TV show that can never, ever return its capital and is using this as a bizarre excuse to cancel it and try to deflect blame for the astonishing failure that the show represents.
2. Amazon was getting USAID money - directly or through a cutout - to produce this show, and is utterly unwilling to continue footing the entire bill for this turkey and is canceling it now that the complex and hidden subsidy scheme is collapsing.

Place your bets.

Stretch a net across the street and ask the first 100 people it catches what USAID is.

At least half of them will say, "WTF is USAID?"
The rest of them will say, "it's the agency that sends bags of grains and stuff to Africa."

The latter is because that is the public face of USAID. When it sends food relief to various famine zones warlords, it's printed on the sacks of grain and boxes of foodstuffs. Like this:
http://tiny.cc/b6w8001

Precisely zero - probably - will know what USAID actually is, which is the slush fund backing up countless "black budgets" for misbehavior.

Food aid is no more the primary mission of USAID than providing fresh water and power to tsunami zones is the primary mission of the US Navy. It's something both agencies do as able, but it's not the mission.

But it's the only thing most people know USAID for.

From what I've heard - rumor, so treat it as such - most if not all federal employees have been invited to resign with the people they *really* want gone offered modest incentive to do so.

The return-to-office mandate will probably clear up 2%-3% right there, with half of them because they *can't* return to work because they moved away without telling anyone. I saw that happen when my last company started their "return to office" mandate. The level of bitching skyrocketed, but most people complied. Half of those I know of personally did not comply because they cheated by moving without disclosure and then got caught with their pants down.

But this is, as you say (and you're right), not mere screaming. The individuals doing the screaming are more telling than the screaming itself. USAID is a very big, hairy deal. Oh, and there was one more thing it was used for which gave it another name. It is also know as "The Tower of Death" because in addition to normal tower things the various Muslim warlords in central Asia historically loved throwing people off of the tower...

Can't let him go as the neighborhood has changed too much & he'll not survive the streets, dogs, foxes, hawks. He seems entertained watching whatever may be going on. He's not afraid of us but doesn't like to be handled (hisses & pees) aside from his showers or being fed fruit.

He and the dog are finally friends, can put him on the back lawn & she'll help keep an eye on him w/i reason.

JAG Arrests Nasty, Vicious, Un-American USDA Inspector General Phyllis Fong After She Gets Kicked Out of Office

White Hats arrested USDA Inspector General Phyllis Fong just minutes after President Trump FIRED her, a source in General Eric M. Smith’s office confirmed. Security officials dragged her out of her office, not even allowing her to pack her belongings.

Fong, a 22-year Deep State operative, is one of the key players behind the artificial inflation of poultry and egg prices in the U.S. She ordered the culling of MILLIONS of healthy birds, using the FAKE excuse of “mutating bird flu.” But here’s the TRUTH: There was NO pandemic—just another manufactured crisis to spread fear, crash the food supply, and squeeze Americans dry.

352 They’ve done this before! The Deep State has been orchestrating food supply sabotage for years—Brian Deese and Tom Vilsack were EXECUTED for the same crimes, yet the Biden regime kept the machine running. The goal? Create chaos. Drive people to their knees. And ultimately, CONTROL what Americans eat.

Fong personally ordered mass bird exterminations in 2024, targeting farms in Colorado, Ohio, Arizona, Louisiana, and Nebraska. One case in Louisiana set the stage: a man (who DID NOT WORK on a poultry farm) was allegedly diagnosed with H5N1 after “finding dead birds” in his yard. The CDC then INVENTED a panic story, claiming 66 people were infected. Sources say that number is ENTIRELY FABRICATED.

Before the media even blasted this FAKE OUTBREAK, Fong and Biden’s corrupt FDA sent teams of inspectors in full hazmat suits to Nebraska.

I strongly suspect the vote had nothing to do with it.

Trump's not getting so much internal opposition in part because of his strategy of flooding them so they have to scramble and can't marshal their forces as effectively, and in part because they don't exactly know what's happening.

Trump was cagey during the transition. He self-funded a lot of it and so the goon squads from the bureaus didn't get nearly as a complete look in as they usually do.

He's been flooding them and they didn't know where exactly he was going to hit. It's an *extremely* strong opening strategy.

Less, I think. Not because they'll suddenly get organized (though they might), but because the pace isn't sustainable. That's the problem with blitzkrieg - you have to achieve the objective *fast.*

That's why, I think, he's attacking the girders as hard as possible. Taking out known bad (or assumed-bad) actors in positions of authority. Knocking out major funding and organizational support infrastructure. Throwing a *ton* of very worthy chum to maintain popularity and keep things chaotic.

He has to get those support beams cut down in months, not years. I think he has a chance.

I've virtually never been hopeful before. It's a weird feeling.

417 Reunion and Mauritius islands are key islands in a semi-distant future naval combat series, the Westerly Gales series, by E.C. Williams. Those islands are colonies of a post-catastrophic world war nation based in the Kerguelen Islands. (49 South, 69 East) I recommend this series.

Plot: The few survivors around the world are isolated to far southern and northern latitudes. Technology has regressed to sailing ships, telephones, radios, and a few electric appliances. The Kerguelen nation, also including a colony on Madagascar, is attacked by a seafaring Mooselimb state based on Zanzibar. Won't say anymore.

Note: For most of their recorded history the Kerguelens were called the Desolation Islands. Today, the Kerguelen islands, but not Reunion or Mauritius, are the capital and largest islands of the French Southern and Antarctic Lands.

We lost power here for a week, it was frustrating and challenging at first, but then it was... relaxing. I did a lot of reading, went to bed when the sun went down. Got a lot of sleep. We still had gas, so we could cook some and had hot water at least. But in the winter the sun goes down so early you just have nothing else to do than sleep like olden days. All my devices ran low on power so I couldn't read the kindle or get online. Everything slowed down and it was a very nice break.

Neither is bedrock.
