"Today is my last day... at NBC," Todd said on his podcast. "I am leaving a bit earlier than we had all originally planned, but there is a reason for it. I'm pretty excited by a few new projects that are on the cusp," Todd added. "The podcast is coming with me and it's not going away." Todd said he would go on a "little hiatus" and then select a new home for the podcast.So no offer from a Real Journalism Network then, huh? Maybe he can become a health and beauty influencer.

I don't think so. I remember when the Fox Network first came on, mostly because the entertainment offered by the Big Three of the time sucked. The Big Three didn't change just because Fox took off.
I'm truly convinced we have to unlearn much that we were taught about capitalism, how companies exist to pursue profit, and all that. The last thirty years has dispelled most of it.
As long as the media stays comfortable stationed in three cities (NYC, DC, and LA) they'll do what they've always done. Whatever they want to do. They'll assume the profits will simply happen because people want to watch something. Anything. They might be right.

I suspect that the simple form of that statement became true when Clinton changed the tax rules for executive pay which had the effect of shifting a large portion of their compensation to stocks. All corporate leadership cares about now is increasing stock price, at least temporarily, to maximize their personal income.

As a counter - Lee Iacocca. Even as an exec in the 60s, he was different than most around him. Why ? Because he believed car companies should figure out what people want, then give it to them for a profit. Some of his moves worked, some did not.
But he never saw himself as a driver of American taste. I don't think corporations - with rare exceptions - have ever given a damn about what Americans want for very long. Because that's not how men who pursue power behave. Be it a corporation or government.

WTF kind of ATC guidance is that? Asking a pilot to AT NIGHT, AGAINST CITY LIGHTS, to first confirm sight of and then avoid a potential conflicting target by AIRCRAFT TYPE?!
Well Jesus H. Christ... why didn't ATC just tell the helo pilot to avoid the plane flown by the short guy with blue eyes, brown hair and a goatee?!
Since ATC had requested the approach change that put the jet into closer proximity with the helo, the controller should have been exceptionally clear in ensuring the helo was aware of it! Instead, he/she did a completely half-assed job of it!

People keep making the mistake of thinking that the activist/donors are the base of the party.
They're not.
If they were, Biden wouldn't have won the 2020 nomination. He checks none of the boxes the activists or donors wanted. He was an old white guy, corrupt pol from Delaware. He wasn't black. He wasn't a chick. He wasn't gay. He wasn't young.
He was viewed as moderate and tied to Obama, whom the base obviously still liked to some degree.
The base put Clinton in in 92. The base rejected Beto, Buttigieg, Kamala, and Warren in 2020.
The base could force the party to turn things around in 2028. The media will do everything in its power to prevent that, though. They'll push more BIPOC of the month choices on the base, probably enough to snuff out any oxygen for anyone else who could challenge it. Biden only survived it because of name recognition.

I saw something yesterday that pissed me off. Might have been linked here or at Insty (maybe both.) A prof was contending that the maternal instinct was nothing but a 'construct' that had been used to oppress women. Pissed me right the fuck off.

I hate people.
I am giving you more credit than you are due, you daft trout, but let's say you are right. If maternal instinct is nothing but a construct, then society itself is nothing but a construct. Mothers are the basis of the family, which in turn is the basis of society itself. The willing cooperation with other people for mutual benefit- selfish benefit sure- but both parties get what they need, be that security, food, entertainment or whatever. This allows the family unit to be more successful than it would be on it's own. So what does it fricking matter if it was a 'construct' (which it's not) because it is a net good in the overall grand scheme of things.

So, they actively supported with their money and their time all of the other candidates except Bernie and Biden until the last second and then they threw their efforts behind Biden.

Biden was only their final, last resort against Bernie.
He was not their actual choice. He was their last resort.
Their choices were all of the other flavor of the months.
And why did it come down to Biden?
Because the base kept behind him. Kept him in second place for a solid year in almost every poll.

I think there are three, not two, constituencies at play here:
1. Donors/activists
2. Base
3. Media
I think it was mainly the media pimping for Kamala, Beto, Homo, and Sitting Bull. Biden was always at least an acceptable donor/DNC candidate. If nothing else, he was already bought and eager to do his donors' bidding from his decades in the Senate.

If what you say about the comm between the tower and PAT 25 is accurate, I'd have to disagree with you ma'am.
If he was above the route altitude outside the tower airspace (radar contact is required to use the River 1 route) Approach should have flagged him and ordered him to descend.
The moment PAT25 entered the tower airspace (tower is responsible for the 3nm from the center of the airfield) above the route altitude he should have been flagged and ordered to immediately descend to the route altitude. When he didn't respond and descend, the CRJ should have been waived off.

My take. ATC while not the sole bearer of blame, should have said. Traffic is CRJ @ your 10:00 @ 5 miles. All he said from the audio I heard was him asking if they saw it and they replied affirm. He should have given them a direction to look. he didn't as far as I know. I believe they aside from being at the wrong alt. were looking at the wrong aircraft.

That's another example where technology would exceed the aptitude of the users. Another is even more scary. As a form of alternative energy, there is a push for MFR's (Mini-fusion reactors). The goal is to make them small enough to accommodate planes and even motor vehicles. Imagine some kid with his learner's permit sitting on top a fusion generator.
