Buh Bye: Chuck Todd Gonezers at MSNBC

Happy Friday, everyone. We did it!

Give yourselves all a head pat.

More leftwingers are getting s-canned.

It's a beautiful, beautiful day in America.

Chuck Todd, the former moderator of "Meet the Press," is leaving NBC News.

Todd, who has become a noticeably less visible presence on the network after he was replaced as "Meet the Press" moderator by Kristen Welker in 2023 after nine years in the chair, announced he would exit NBC on Friday.

"Today is my last day... at NBC," Todd said on his podcast.

"I am leaving a bit earlier than we had all originally planned, but there is a reason for it. I'm pretty excited by a few new projects that are on the cusp," Todd added. "The podcast is coming with me and it's not going away."

Todd said he would go on a "little hiatus" and then select a new home for the podcast.

So no offer from a Real Journalism Network then, huh?

Maybe he can become a health and beauty influencer.

Related: Jim Acosta appeared on "The Contrarian" podcast with Jen Rubin's leftwing partner Norm Eisen.

Off with their heads.

The senior officials are at the executive assistant director level or special agent in charge level and include those who oversee cyber, national security and criminal investigations, the sources told CNN. Some were notified while Kash Patel, President Donald Trump’s pick to lead the agency, sat answering questions from senators for his confirmation hearing Thursday.

Was Jim Acosta Fired From CNN? Here's Everything We Know - Distractify
2 days ago - So, was Jim Acosta fired from CNN? Despite widespread speculation, it doesn't appear that Jim Acosta was fired from CNN. According to reports , he left the network following a disagreement over a decision to move his show to the midnight hour — a time slot often considered a low-visibility period in cable news.

Chuck Todd has been bending the knee to MAGA for a decade now, so somehow I don't think he was going to become our journalistic "savior".

"America needs real journalism now." It does but Schmuck Toad was NOT it. It's exhausting to hear these people doing nothing more than regurgitating RW talking points and attempting to legitimize and validate them in order to carry out a "discussion". I like people like the Guardian's youngin' Hugo Lowell, a new generation of up and comings.

We need more real information, but you weren't getting it from Chuck Todd, only propaganda. Mark my words he will end up as the token "liberal" on Faux propaganda channel or Newsmax

122 The powers that be are finally waking up to the fact that they are now in the minority.

I don't think so. I remember when the Fox Network first came on, mostly because the entertainment offered by the Big Three of the time sucked. The Big Three didn't change just because Fox took off.

I'm truly convinced we have to unlearn much that we were taught about capitalism, how companies exist to pursue profit, and all that. The last thirty years has dispelled most of it.

As long as the media stays comfortable stationed in three cities (NYC, DC, and LA) they'll do what they've always done. Whatever they want to do. They'll assume the profits will simply happen because people want to watch something. Anything. They might be right.

128 DOGE wants to know where the bodies are buried and Treasury officials are jumping ship.

WaPo today:

"The highest-ranking career official at the Treasury Department is departing after a clash with allies of billionaire Elon Musk over access to sensitive payment systems, according to three people with knowledge of the matter, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe private talks.

David A. Lebryk, who served in nonpolitical roles at Treasury for several decades, announced his retirement Friday in an email to colleagues obtained by The Washington Post. President Donald Trump named Lebryk as acting secretary upon taking office last week. Lebryk had a dispute with Musk’s surrogates over access to the payment system the U.S. government uses to disburse trillions of dollars every year, the people said. The exact nature of the disagreement was not immediately clear, they said.

Officials affiliated with Musk’s “Department of Government Efficiency” have been asking since after the election for access to the system, the people said — requests that were reiterated more recently, including after Trump’s inauguration."

As a counter - Lee Iacocca. Even as an exec in the 60s, he was different than most around him. Why ? Because he believed car companies should figure out what people want, then give it to them for a profit. Some of his moves worked, some did not.

But he never saw himself as a driver of American taste. I don't think corporations - with rare exceptions - have ever given a damn about what Americans want for very long. Because that's not how men who pursue power behave. Be it a corporation or government.

Well Jesus H. Christ... why didn't ATC just tell the helo pilot to avoid the plane flown by the short guy with blue eyes, brown hair and a goatee?!

Since ATC had requested the approach change that put the jet into closer proximity with the helo, the controller should have been exceptionally clear in ensuring the helo was aware of it! Instead, he/she did a completely half-assed job of it!

People keep making the mistake of thinking that the activist/donors are the base of the party.

They're not.

If they were, Biden wouldn't have won the 2020 nomination. He checks none of the boxes the activists or donors wanted. He was an old white guy, corrupt pol from Delaware. He wasn't black. He wasn't a chick. He wasn't gay. He wasn't young.

He was viewed as moderate and tied to Obama, whom the base obviously still liked to some degree.

The base put Clinton in in 92. The base rejected Beto, Buttigieg, Kamala, and Warren in 2020.

The base could force the party to turn things around in 2028. The media will do everything in its power to prevent that, though. They'll push more BIPOC of the month choices on the base, probably enough to snuff out any oxygen for anyone else who could challenge it. Biden only survived it because of name recognition.

My facebook post on the subject:
I hate people.
I am giving you more credit than you are due, you daft trout, but let's say you are right. If maternal instinct is nothing but a construct, then society itself is nothing but a construct. Mothers are the basis of the family, which in turn is the basis of society itself. The willing cooperation with other people for mutual benefit- selfish benefit sure- but both parties get what they need, be that security, food, entertainment or whatever. This allows the family unit to be more successful than it would be on it's own. So what does it fricking matter if it was a 'construct' (which it's not) because it is a net good in the overall grand scheme of things.

265 Part 2:
Also, she has things the wrong way around. I am reminded of a bit from GK Chesterton in A defense of Rash Vows: "The revolt against vows has been carried in our day even to the extent of a revolt against the typical vow of marriage. It is most amusing to listen to the opponents of marriage on this subject. They appear to imagine that the ideal of constancy was a yoke mysteriously imposed on mankind by the devil, instead of being, as it is, a yoke consistently imposed by all lovers on themselves. They have invented a phrase, a phrase that is a black and white contradiction in two words—'free-love'—as if a lover ever had been, or ever could be, free. It is the nature of love to bind itself, and the institution of marriage merely paid the average man the compliment of taking him at his word." Me: just substitute 'motherhood' or 'family' for marriage.

And guess what she looked like? (which was how your comment set this off.)

Yes.

Biden was only their final, last resort against Bernie.

He was not their actual choice. He was their last resort.

Their choices were all of the other flavor of the months.

And why did it come down to Biden?

Because the base kept behind him. Kept him in second place for a solid year in almost every poll.

The base wanted him. The donors settled for him.

I think there are three, not two, constituencies at play here:

1. Donors/activists

It should also be noted that Kamala, who received more money than Biden, was 4th in donations. Bernie received the most. Then Warren then Buttigieg.

The donors didn't drive Biden. If they drove anything it was Bernie in addition to all of the others who never had a chance.

If what you say about the comm between the tower and PAT 25 is accurate, I'd have to disagree with you ma'am.

If he was above the route altitude outside the tower airspace (radar contact is required to use the River 1 route) Approach should have flagged him and ordered him to descend.

The moment PAT25 entered the tower airspace (tower is responsible for the 3nm from the center of the airfield) above the route altitude he should have been flagged and ordered to immediately descend to the route altitude. When he didn't respond and descend, the CRJ should have been waived off.

It should also be noted that Kamala, who received more money than Biden, was 4th in donations. Bernie received the most. Then Warren then Buttigieg.

The donors didn't drive Biden. If they drove anything it was Bernie in addition to all of the others who never had a chance.

Who, stuck at a standstill on a freeway, with no means of escape, has not dreamed of hauling back on the steering wheel, rising off the ground, and zooming through an empty sky to one's destination? I know I have. I also know it doesn't work that way. If your car was capable of flight, why would you ever drive it on the freeway? And if you car is capable of flight, then so are all the others. The airspace around cities would look like a swarm of flies descending upon a fresh turd.

But donors were throwing money at other candidates more than him.

Kamala...who dropped out before Iowa, raised more than him.

There's a wide gulf between "Biden's fine in a pinch" and "Biden's our choice."

I've never argued against the first. I've always argued against the second. It was obvious that Biden wasn't their choice from the start, that they wanted others more than him. If he was, if there's some monolith of donors, then it's obvious that they did everything they could to get other people in there except for him.

Hell...Kamala called him racist on national TV during a debate. Probably something donors wanted to knock him out.

The requirement is that the podcast be politically oriented and a daily production.

I can't listen to 7400 podcasts a day. I would have to stop sleeping.

488 Face it, flying cars are a fantasy.

The best we could hope for would be established traffic patterns like those seen in the movies The Fifth Element or the Star Wars prequels (e.g., Coruscant). Though that doesn't stop the heroes from driving outside the lane...

489 I really don't know how many people were handling traffic flow inside the tower's airspace but I do know that as the tower controller handling the traffic, you have one job...

I have seen it reported, but haven't seen it confirmed, that the tower was not only understaffed that evening but they allowed one ATC to leave early just before the crash.

490 What I find funny is that podcasts are their only option. They can develop a equitable social media presences because those forum allow feedback. That's the last thing these folks want (someone calling them in real time on their nonsense).

Podcasts are still an echo chamber and absolutely devastatingly boring if they don't allow interaction of the listeners.

Welcome to Purgatory, Chuck.

505 Just checked in the last thread, seems that somebody needs to know this:
---
A nominalist is a person who holds the philosophical view that universals and abstract objects are not real, but instead are just names or labels.
---
See Plato: https://tinyl.io/C0QF
---
Then, I'd like to see somebody prove to me that abstract objects exist.

Even should we adopt "Common Sense Realism" approach that the senses are immanently trustable, it is still up to us and our trustworthy brains to describe the phenomena.

That's another example where technology would exceed the aptitude of the users. Another is even more scary. As a form of alternative energy, there is a push for MFR's (Mini-fusion reactors). The goal is to make them small enough to accommodate planes and even motor vehicles. Imagine some kid with his learner's permit sitting on top a fusion generator.

Humanity needs to slow down a bit.

512 The only way flying cars can possibly work is by taking humans out of the equation other than programming in the destination. Then the computer takes over.
Posted by: "Perfessor" Squirrel at January 31, 2025 01:00 PM (7fElN)

Exactly. Decades of testing have proven this. Especially since the goal is to be able to have the cars at speed and distance tolerances that the human mind can't cope with. That means the humans can't have any view of what is happening or they get to their destination as gibbering wrecks.

And then Murphy gets his say. I couldn't believe that all those Civil Engineers with Murphy's Law (and all its correlaries) posters in their offices suddenly decided that for *this* none of that was going to be a problem.

515 I've been involved in flight test a lot, (just observing monitoring for data qual, safety, etc) where you're doing a lot of crazy stuff, tight high Mach turns, roller coasters, steep dives, etc. This requires a good deal of planning with controllers weeks before.

Day of test all verbal com is very detailed, hand offs between mil and civ controllers all precise. They put you in a box in the sky somewhere. Everyone knows the boundary of the box. Everyone knows what you're doing. But you even look like your approaching an edge and controllers are squawking to re afirm status.

520 Anna Puma, clearly the helo was out of position, but my point was one I had not seen emphasized: that ATC gave minimal attention to a situation that they should have detected, and worse, seemed to address the problem while really giving only a superficial attempt at addressing it.

To me this is a sign of overload - doing the least possible in the situation, instead of the best possible!
