Tuesday Overnight Open Thread - February 4, 2025 [scampydog]

Spy Top.JPG

It is tough to pick a favorite EO or event since Inauguration Day, but what is easy to say is that this has been the happiest, most impressive first couple of Presiential weeks in a lifetime. Drop a comment about your favorite events so far.

J6 Pardons.

Plenty of EO's to sift through.

Spies and the Laptop Lie. Spies? Let's get to the ONT fun.

*****

Hello good people. Tuesday ONT of cloak and dagger. Burn after reading. A Soooooper Seeeekret Mystery Click or two to be found.

Domestic enemy. Conspiracy to steal Federal Reserve secrets for the benefit of the People's Republic of China. China holds more US debt than any other nation and consistently makes effort to manipulate our economy.

"The Chinese Communist Party has expanded its economic espionage campaign to target U.S. government financial policies and trade secrets in an effort to undermine the U.S. and become the sole superpower," said FBI Assistant Director in Charge David Sundberg. "Today's indictment represents the FBI's unwavering commitment to protect U.S. national security interests and U.S. jobs and to bring to justice those who are willing to betray their country for personal gain."

Greenland you say? "Project Iceworm"

The City Under The Snow. US Army lair in Cold War Greenland.

Destined to house nearly 200 residents, the top-secret missile base in northwestern Greenland, far north of the Arctic Circle, was publicly touted as a "remote research community" under the auspices of the Army Polar Research and Development Center.

Trickery.JPG

LSD and the CIA.

Project MK-Ultra

Unsurprisingly, the CIA conducted the project with the utmost secrecy, even giving it multiple code names. And when it finally ended in the 1970s, most of the records pertaining to it were destroyed on the orders of the director of the CIA himself - that is, all but a small misfiled cache accidentally left intact.

The program was quickly headed by chemist and poison expert Sidney Gottlieb, who was known in covert circles as the "Black Sorcerer."

Scytale.JPG

Scytales.

One of the earliest known encryption devices is the scytale, a tool used by the ancient Spartans for secure military communications. The scytale's simplicity belies its significant influence on the history of cryptography, marking one of the first known applications of transposition ciphers-a technique still in use today.

Life in prison? Really?

A mole in the CIA. Aldrich 'Rick' Ames.

A CIA agent who became a Soviet spy, Ames' betrayal proved devastating for American assets in the U.S.S.R. Between 1985 and his arrest in 1994, Ames revealed the names of every intelligence agent he knew of, leading to the deaths of at least 10 people.

Former Israeli spies describe attack using exploding electronic devices against Hezbollah.

One agent said the operation started 10 years ago using walkie-talkies laden with hidden explosives, which Hezbollah didn't realize it was buying from Israel, its enemy. The walkie-talkies were not detonated until September, a day after booby-trapped pagers were set off.

Action? Not sure. It's been a lot. Probably USAID (for efficacy) or offering buyouts to seemingly every federal employee (for drama).

Event? That is probably his initial clutch of EOs he signed during his post-inaugural rally at the stadium, where he called out specifically that he was freezing the agencies - no more regulations and no more hiring - in order to prevent holdovers from interfering in what was coming next. He was contemptuous in his manner and remarks, and it was *exactly* the kind of chum I wanted in my water.

On the plus side, it probably doesn't matter whether it works or not. The main point is probably to keep driving the wedge between legitimate and semi-legitimate Arab states and the various Palestinian groups, to the benefit of all who aren't in one of those groups or directly aligned with Iran.

Peripherally, I am leaving for Idaho Thursday morning. Got a great new job, and best of all, we are getting the fuck out of Colorado. The Missus will follow in a couple of months (more or less). A lot of stuff happened all at once, not the least of which is having to sell our house. But we've done this before. We shall endeavor to persevere.

94 Thank you for the ONT scampydog.

DisneyChannel had a spy show starring Zendaya who was about 18 at the time. Cute show. Zendaya looked good.

The cats are zooming in and out.

My friends are fine transitioning them back to their home even tomorrow.

It's still pretty cold out but they'd have an outdoor cat house and a heated bed.

I'll see what happens. This in and out crap, the early morning wakeup calls, all the litter boxes around, doors closed so they don't turn on faucets or eat wires.....all that's wearing on me.

They had a very nice time for over 4 months....,

Oh, and they are so much more wind resistant....

Minority Report was a cool movie. Wildly different from Dick's story, but a cool movie.

Except one part that actually sort of ruins it for me. The scene after Tom Cruise's surgery in which the underground doctor replaced his eyes, he's groping through the fridge and chows down on a revolting, rotten sandwich (IIRC). Made my stomach churn and it was unnecessary for the story. It was just there for over-the-top gross-out factor. It was successful in that, but sort of spoiled the movie for me.

This is what's he doing now. He's all in, and he's playing to win. All his chips are on the table, and he's rolling the "hard six" (which comes to mind from somewhere).

We're witnessing a coup. Right now. It's what Trump, his agents and their cadre of weaponized autists are executing. It's unfolding in real time. They've stormed the gates and are taking over the real government and eliminating the old regime (or trying to).

It's the highest-stakes game I have ever seen. It's enormously high-risk. It's also, short of open war and all of its death, destruction and wild chance, possibly the only play.

Yes.

Was the duly-elected government in charge of the government before? By definition, it wasn't - not if the duly-elected government has to seize control of it.

So yes, it is a coup. It is an ousting of an entire power system and its replacement with another power system (assuming it works, of course).

It is not illegitimate, but it *is* a coup.

Oh, and there was one more thing it was used for which gave it another name. It is also know as "The Tower of Death" because in addition to normal tower things the various Muslim warlords in central Asia historically loved throwing people off of the tower...

I think the way it ended is more interesting in many ways than what they did. Fortunately they didn't have any breakthroughs, but it wasn't really ended because they kept failing.

It was ended because independently Western social scientists figured out how to control people in aggregate through the media. Who needs to be able to make one specific person betray his ideals when you can make 10% of the population adopt whatever ideals you tell them to adopt?

It was only recently toppled out of the number one spot, by the Department of Energy's "El Capitan" supercomputer, which uses a similar design.

"Frontier" and "El Capitan" pushed the envelope beyond what anyone imagined, and the combined cost of both systems is around $1.2 billion - sort of in the middle of a lot the shit DOGE has discovered within two weeks.

The amounts of money being stolen are astounding. Supercomputers aren't your thing? Don't see the point beyond bragging rights? Fair enough. The inflation-adjusted cost of the TVA flood-control project (power generation was a side effect) that transformed the Tennessee Valley was about a billion dollars. So triple it for a more reasonable comparison, and it's still less that what DOGE is already finding.

308 It's interesting to me that Trump has specifically asked Elon to play the bad guy and be his lightning rod. I mean, Elon has f-you $$$$ out the ass, doesn't give two shits if someone hates him, and considers 'impossible' tasks very doable and, in many cases, does them. 'Catch a landing rocket' anyone?

Lesser men would have folded long ago. Not Elon. I think he enjoys the fight. The man loves superhuman challenges - like unf*cking the Federal behemoth.

-
Based on related things he's said or have been reported I think the idea is

1 Hamas ends, by negotiation after the hostages are freed or the hard way

2 Gaza population relocated among various arab countries, sufficiently scattered to not cause further problems (Arab leaders have voiced unhappiness with the prospect)

3 US takes custody of Gaza Strip, rather than Israel, which minimizes bitching about the loss of territory.

4 Gaza Strip is rebuilt as a resort, probably by private funding, whoever wants to work there can apply, but I guess he sees it being populated from all over, but not at current density.

5 Maybe we end up with some manner of military base, just in case.

360 Did You Know?

About 1950, the US government proposed to purchase the entire world supply of L.S.D. quite a lot, ostensibly to keep it out of the hands of the Soviets. The CIA then embarked on a program of domestic production, Sandoz picking up the slack domestically for production

They dosed everybody at CIA, it was an occupational hazard for quite some time, as they would spike your drink. I’m a little dubious on the cover story, that this had anything to do with protection against being a prisoner of war in Korea.

It fucked a lot of people up. It coincides nicely with Operation Paperclip - chemical warfare specialists from you know where were imported, along with the Von Braun guys to Huntsville. Ft. Detrick, and many other locations, universities, prisons, etc started testing hallucinogens on all sorts of unwitting subjects.

The very first Secretary of Defense, William Forrestal, went nuts around this time and flung himself out of a high window at Bethesda Naval Hospital; this is one of my pet conspiracy theories - somebody wanted him gone, and a big ole dose of LSD might be a good way to do that.

I'll be more clear. Trump is not interested in nation building other than this one. But the status quo in Gaza is untenable. So he says, with the entire weight of the US government behind him, he is interested.

There is nothing any Middle Eastern country wants less than the US having a Gaza size base in the Middle East and we aren't the only ones with big check books.

Israel and Saudi Arabia are on the cusp of adding to the Abraham Accords, something else that was impossible before Trump did it, and there are other countries looking to come onboard as well.

Trump lives to negotiate. It's what he does. When has Trump ever been in favor of nation building around the world? Ever?

Acid makes people highly suggestible. To Hypnosis in particular. This is another interesting topic. The Acid was used to make people more malleable.

To Propaganda. It is no coincidence in my mind where the 1950s was the “Elite” arguing that LSD was too important and should be reserved for the Beautiful people. Henry Luce, Time-Life mogul and a lot of famous people took it. Then Tim Leary was fired from Harvard for dosing everyone. He was a spook on the payroll. The Merry Pranksters, the Acid Tests in California - these were government funded ops.

It is painfully obvious in retrospect, the 1960s was largely a media or spook agency driven mind fuck. I’m sure it was s lot of fun - but, California is a basket case.

There's a comedy anime like that, set in a serial-numbers-filed-off East Germany. "Spy Family."

"The Americans" meets "Mr. And Mrs. Smith," in Japan.

"West German" spy goes to "East Germany" to kill the head of the Party. Who only appears in public when his child is involved.

So he needs a kid in the same school. Gets one from an orphanage. But the school is very high-society, and no single father is getting his kid in there. So he recruits a wife.

Wife is a professional assassin, who has to keep that secret from her husband.

And their "adopted daughter" is a mind-reading telepathic kindergartener. Who is a huge fan of the in-universe James-Bond-alike.

And then they get a dog, named "Bond," who can see the future.

Hijinks ensue.

Gerald Ford, as a congressman once said “there are 3 branches of government. The House, the Senate, and H.R. Gross” He was a deficit and spending hawk.

Our city was among the last to get an Interstate highway service, rumored because he was such an asshole.

But it was guys like him that prevented the “Bust Out” operation that has been ongoing for decades now. I knew shit was going to come to a head fairly soon, because even any talk of fiscal sanity had long since ceased, and the politicos were just looting a corpse. They know the jig is up, let’s party! I wonder what the CIA did in the past to advance America's interests?

And what we'd think of it.

Or were they out of control.

I need to get to bed.
Good night all.

Morning wood.....

Please start gutting the EPA.

The howling will be glorious as President Trump takes his sword and stabs Mother Gaia.

Holy shit! We live with a lot of insane, unbalanced people.

Heh, this is what the Bad Cat wrote in Nov. 14th:

DC is going to feel like it’s being invaded by an entire bestiary of mythical monsters with magical powers who can see through walls and huck immovable objects over the horizon.

they will come from every side at once. they will replace thousands of federal employees right from the start, you’ll be fighting against the outside and the inside. they’re going to transfer and move those permanent staters they cannot fire. have fun in topeka or guam. they’re lovely this time of year.

they are not going to play nice or play fair.

the simple fact is that there exists a very small group of incredibly high function, insanely productive people. it’s the dirty secret of the world. this tiny tribe conceives, invents, and builds basically everything novel. all of it. they are not normal people. they are the 0.1%.

unless you have worked with them, around them, been a part of what they do, you simply lack a reference for what they are like. it’s essentially inconceivable how much such people can get done when they set their minds to it, how many rules they will disprove, break, or ignore and how many paradigms they will upend.

After everyrhing the last few decades, I could easily believe some people in the US government would let 9-11 happen for more power, money and control.

The same with Israel. Mossad, probably the most sophisticated spy agency on Earth, didn't know ANYTHING?

I think some people knew the attacks were going to happen, let them happen because public outrage would let the Israelis clear Hamas out.

I don't think amy of our governments, aside from President Trump now, would stop a few million dead if they meant a few more years of power.

I'm worse than that. The people who got dragged across the border as kids are said to be here "through no fault of their own." Whose fault is it? Ours? Everyone expecting the US to pick up the slack here because they got brought here as mere babes?

IT'S THEIR PARENTS' FAULT. Look the Dreamers in the eye and tell them, "Don't blame America. Your parents entrusted your wellbeing to a BET on the negligence of the US government. You want everything to be even-steven, drag your parents back across the border to the place they brought you from, and then you can all figure out a legal way back."

Not a coincidence, in my opinion. One thing
@EaglesTTT and I have noticed—but haven't yet quantified—is that government-funded NGOs tend to cluster into distinct verticals. For example, religious and migrant-focused NGOs form one vertical, while media-related NGOs form another.

——-

@amus, Politico reporters haven’t been paid after USAID payments were suspended. Opposition news outlets across Europe, South America, Asia, and Africa are facing similar problems. Was Politico funded by USAID or is this just a coincidence?

The Bad Cat said these people will go in and figure out just where to go, what levers to pull quickly. They will identify the choke point, the critical link quickly, and attack it.

And that folks, is the US Treasury payment system and USAID. They identified the Achilles heel of The System right away.

And this I also like, thanks the Bad Cat. This critical link, the funding, is how you get around the massive web of obfuscation and money laundering. Simply cut off the funds. The cockroaches will come scurrying out into the light when their food supply is cut off.

This is what is happening now.

Either the mix was too thin, and ran in streaks, or else it clogged the spray gun. What that spray gun needs is some sort of agitator to keep the popcorn (styrofoam pellets) in suspension. Ended up by rolling a large part of it. Will see how it looks in daylight tomorrow. I'm sure some touch-up will be needed in spots. Will probably wind up painting the entire ceiling to get a uniform white color.

The difference is that because of classification we'll never get to see the CIA's dirty secrets aired like USAID's. The rot is just as deep, as we've seen from IC conduct directed at Trump, among other things. But the rot's always been there, as suggested by the MK Ultra mentions in the content. The CIA should be abolished, just like Daniel Moynihan proposed. The culture cannot be fixed, and as FISA demonstrates, it won't be policed from the outside in an effective way.

The Papyri were basically carbonized chunks. They came up with some fancy X-ray volume scanning method. And then came the hard part, virtually unrolling the 3D map of the carbonized scroll chunk into a 2D sheet, and then deciphering text.

Now, how to you distinguish the ink from the paper, although carbonized. This what Luke figured out.

Seems Barky is having problems building his massive presidential library complex. Read the whole thing, it's a hoot.

Obama's main contractor there is being sued by one of the subs for.....racial discrimination. So, Barky is a racist. (This minority contractor was doing shoddy work, apparently, and when called out, cried raycisss!).

Also, Obama's donors are getting pissed at his arrogance. You mean, they're just figuring that out?
