"Bullion Bob" Menendez Sentenced to 11 Years for Bribery and Corruption, the Longest Sentence Ever Handed Out to a Senator

Now do Joe Biden.

@RealKiraDavis

BREAKING: former Democrat NJ senator Bob Menendez sentenced to 11 years in prison on charges of bribery, corruption. The longest prison sentence ever for a US Senator

Jamie Dupree
@jamiedupree

NEW YORK (AP) -- Former Sen. Bob Menendez sentenced to 11 years in prison for taking bribes of cash and gold, acting as agent of Egypt.

Acting as an agent of China and Ukraine and Russia is, as always, perfectly legal.

Meanwhile, Servitor of the Deep State and RussiaGate Hoax conspirator Thom Tillis is playing nice with RFKJr. (until his inevitable betrayal).

But he can afford to pretend to play nice -- he already knows that Graham and McConnell will thwart Trump's and the public's will, so he can skip being a #Resistance warrior on this vote.

All this can, of course, be mitigated by John Thune saying the simple phrase "the Senate stands in recess".

Graham is popular in SC.

I don't know why people can't accept this fact.

The Republican Party of SC loves him. The Republican voters in general like him. It's the base political reality of SC right now.

We can talk about why (no small part of it is the Strom Thurmond constituent services machine that Graham inherited when he first got his position in the Senate), but it doesn't change the fact that Graham is in no danger of losing his seat. At all.

The Upsate loves him.

The problem is that nobody with enough name recognition or campaign funding can challenge Lindsey in a primary.
The SC GOP likes him there. So they won't get rid of him.

You've got to remember that this is the state that kepy Strom Thurmond in office when he was decades past his Sell-By Date.

There's a loyalty here to politicians that I don't understand.
But we're not alone. There's a lot of old-ass career politicians in office in every state that should've been retired years ago.

His constituent services are top notch (this is the opposite of Jeff Flake in AZ whose constituent services were so notoriously bad that they were the actual primary reason he lost all support in the state).

He's very visible in the VA and general veteran affairs stuff in the state.

He controls the machine of Republican politics in SC and his minions manipulate things so that only whackos oppose him in the primary.

I don't know why people can't accept this fact.

The Republican Party of SC loves him. The Republican voters in general like him. It's the base political reality of SC right now.

McConnell is knee deep in Ukraine corruption, and his wife is a Chinese spy. Graham probably killed someone, he's creepy AF, but regardless they have kompromat on him, he's a follower. Bi Partisan investigations would probably be great for the brand, can't say it's lawfare when we're putting everyone in jail

Then he’s going to work to oust every one of the “no” votes, along with Shanahan.

I’m right there with them. It’s past the time to get rid of these people. They are going to repeat this every time a critical vote comes up no matter whether it’s immigration, the economy or any other priority issues. It has always largely been the senate who stands in the way of progress. Now it’s time for progress to vote them in their fat, flabby, putrid white asses.

No. Not the most obvious candidate to replace Graham. She is not of South Carolina. She's from North Carolina. The Carolina part is not fungible.

The most obvious candidate is Nancy Mace. Perhaps you have noticed that she has been working on raising her profile. She's from South Carolina and the first female graduate of The Citadel. People have gotten over the first female part, The Citadel graduate part still carries weight in SC.

And as far as the South Carolina Machine works in GOP politics, she's from the Charleston area which is one of the major power centers of the machine. That does also cut against her as Tim Scott is also from Charleston and the machine tends to spread out the power (just to let you know the Edgefield/Charleston dynamic has been in place for a LONG time in SC, Graham replaced Thurmond from Edgefield and Scott replaced Hollings from Charleston. Some 80 years of it.

From wiki:

Appointments made during a recess must be confirmed by the Senate by the end of the next session of Congress, or the appointment expires. In current practice, this means that a recess appointment must be approved by roughly the end of the next calendar year and thus could last for almost two years, if made early enough in the year.

Barring that, I don't care if someone says "I don't trust this one to be any better than that one," it's about punishing the one.

376 Look, the GOP Senators are by and large awful. Go ahead, take a look at the web page for the Senate Republican Caucus. I'll wait.

Lindsay Graham was an impeachment manager in the Clinton impeachment. He was my Congressman, and he was as conservative as you could be.

Something happened to him in the Senate. Maybe being McCain's best friend. Dunno. But he was not always Queen of the RINOs.

I did not say Mace was awesome or good - just that she is the most obvious choice to run against Graham in 2026. But maybe she is interested in the Governor's race that is also in 2026. I think she would choose Senate over governor, but if Graham doesn't look beatable she may run for governor.

No matter how Trumpy the GOP is, that doesn't make his daughter-in-law most obvious to run for Senate in a state she has no nexus to.
