It's almost like it went up to 1600 ft and then immediately came back down...I don't know if it was supposed to go higher, but it didn't...would a plane that 100% stalls out just drop after? Aren't there 2 engines?
Posted by: Nova Local at January 31, 2025 07:45 PM (exHjb) Not sure. But if the plane hit a flock of birds, both engines could have been destroyed. Remember Captain Sully doing the dead-stick landing near NYC? 737 hit flock of geese, both engines quit. Obviously, I'm not certain it was a bird strike. But they do happen. Sounds like whatever did happen occurred when the plane was at full power, climbing out after takeoff, but had not yet attained enough altitude or airspeed to make a go-around if the engines quit. Had a flyboy drop his jet fighter at Eielson this past week. He parachuted safely, but it was below zero degrees out there and it could not have been fun dealing with the parachute trip or the cleanup after. What is going on? God swatting us down?
Posted by: tcn in AK at January 31, 2025 07:54 PM (BW+Gb) You notice there was a huge fireball there as well? Pretty much a given if a plane with fuel in the tanks hits the ground hard. That's why, if a plane has landing gear problems, and cannot get the gear down, they circle and jettison fuel before attempting a belly landing. If you want to learn about the causes of better known aircraft disasters, Mentour Pilot on YouTube has many detailed accident analysis videos. Each is 40 to 60 minutes. He uses the official accident reports, ATC and cockpit audio transcripts, flight re-creation video from a flight simulator, and his experience as an airline pilot and check-pilot, to build a detailed description of what happened.
Highly recommended if you have the time to watch the vids. https://www.youtube.com/@MentourPilot I find it both fascinating and terribly sad to learn how equipment failures, weather, pilot error, ATC error, and just bad luck individually or in some combination caused the accidents. Rory can't keep his mouth shut, and yet he is quite bright, was a British governor down Basra (Southern Iraq) way during the Iraq War and wrote a book about it - good book, The Prince Of The Marshes.
And after the Afghan War, he actually walked across Afghanistan and wrote a book about that too - enjoyed that one too, The Places In Between. And yet, for a smart man who is not a coward, he just seems tone deaf... Rory Stewart @RoryStewartUK Good to see the Telegraph and Spectator taking JD Vance’s side in our debate. Posted by: Nova Local at January 31, 2025 07:49 PM (exHjb) Then it didn't stall, which would bleed airspeed. If it had a lot of lateral speed it just went from a climb to a dive directly. Posted by: tcn in AK at January 31, 2025 07:59 PM (BW+Gb) In the early 80s my college had a 3-2 program for engineering where they spent three years at a satellite college taking the first 2 years and any prereqs they hadn't had in highschool then the last 2 years at the main college. Seemed to work well for the guys in it who presumably would not have been admitted, or likely flunked out if they had been admitted. After Mom passed, I just kept their food bowls full so they'd keep coming back inside. Not a crazy amount, but they are inside alot now. All the animals are inside. I just want to drink some beer and watch something enjoyable, but nothing is.... Everyone have a good night. Philly plane crash....suspicious. There is a May Day Air Disaster episode about a leased Lear Jet hauling around the #2 guy in the Mexican government. They were landing in Mexico City and it crashed, killing all aboard.
Yeah the immediate cause was turbulence. But digging further they found that both pilots had falsified training documents. Posted by: Anna Puma at January 31, 2025 08:29 PM (Z4Lx1) Posted by: Miklos , just cashed his auto title loan check at January 31, 2025 08:30 PM (xesY+) 197

At 1000 hours, you know what you are doing. Remember, helicopter flights are relatively short, like 2 hours, so that’s a lot of flights.
You come out of flight school with 200 hrs. It takes a couple hundred more to be minimally qualified. At 500 hours, you think you know what you are doing and are often wrong. Sometimes fatally. I suspect the IP got distracted, the female copilot was not watching the altitude and drifted up from 200 feet. IP may not have seen the aircraft on his left side and copilot may not have been aware of the danger of no relative motion. 2/2 Posted by: RI Red at January 31, 2025 09:09 PM (U4scq) 278

Hey, Eromero. I was telling CBD today that this one hit me hard. I had an inches away near head on with another Huey flying at night over the desert. I had a useless 1 LT as my Peter pilot and didn’t let him touch the controls till we were headed home. I put my head down for 10 seconds to look up a freq, glanced up and yanked the cyclic back and the collective fullup. Overtorque, low rotor rpm, the works. The guys on the other Huey told me they saw the rivets on the bottom of my aircraft.

Amtrak? Say, you're from Pittsburgh have some time and want to visit a friend in Philadelphia. So, you go to the Amtrak site for the schedule of days and times of arrival and departure to and from these cities. No you don't. That type of schedule doesn't exist this is government work, don't you know?
Amtrak's scheduler requires that you enter the day of departure and the day of arrival. If your entry does not comport with the departure and arrival dates of the train you re-enter other dates until you get it right. Jet engines should be able to survive a bird strike unless its a large bird, like goose or bigger. Someone said "with all the planes and drones you'd think if birds were a big danger there would be more crashes" Jet engines should be able to handle a bird strike but if a small drone was sucked into the engine that would probably destroy the engine. Birds are pretty mushy unless frozen, drones would not be. And I believe that drones have auto restrictors to keep them out of flight paths but a good hacker could probably subvert the restrictor.

Swept rotor tip separated from one blade (low level, night, 150 knots). Got her down level in the trees and we made our own LZ. Sikorsky put new blades on and flew it out of there the next day. The FAA does not prevent one from powering on a drone. The restrictions for hobbyists are convolute but easy to fulfill. There are qualifications (mainly on paper) that must be met and whether one is flying in restricted airspace. In addition, there are FAA recognized identification areas which do not require a transponder.

356 WOW that jet was dropping fast! Not even a mayday call was sent.
On Fox just now they said it was at 1600 feet dropping at 2400 feet per second. That's *fast*. Posted by: Ian S. at January 31, 2025 09:46 PM (YRLP/) Is that, "Dropping," or a powered dive? Posted by: davidt at January 31, 2025 09:48 PM (i0F8b) 361
Some in the Fed zilla are in a “Panic”? Abject terror would be preferable but we’ll take what we can get. Those bastards deserve much worse to be sure

Nobody emerged from that crash. That is someone who was on the ground, on fire to be sure. They weren’t on the plane. Evening, folks.
I'm not into anime at all, and some of Pixy Misa's music video links on the tech reports, with the unfamiliar anime clips, just don't appeal to me. The whole genre is just not my cup of tea. Oonnnnn the other hand, this video (c/o Bluebird of Bitterness) with that anime-ish feel, is something I can more readily appreciate. https://youtu.be/5U78ukVbPc8 _______________ Did we get the ID of the helo pilot yet? Did grammie report on the Rev's surgery? Oboy it's almost ONT time. Do we still call the noodling summoning the corgis or are we stuck with otters now?
