A valid argument is now being advanced that if a government officially views what is going on in Gaza as a "genocide" (like Ireland does), that government is obligated to accept each and every Gazan as a refugee, and allow them all to immigrate to that country.

3 things I recall in the days following 10/7 attack:
1. Palestinians poll showed ~78% supported the Hamas attack.
2. Franklin Graham, interviewed from Israel (there w/Samaritan's Purse), reported that it wasn't 1 attack. There were at least 3 waves. 1st wave Hamas attacked/murdered. 2nd wave a few hours later, civilians* returned, looted, tortured and killed survivors. 3rd wave hours later, same thing.
3. They burned down homes, killed livestock, destroyed farm equipment and crops. This was to cause food production issues going forward.
*civilians included women and children participating in the horrors

I'm reading a book by a journalist who was present for the North African fighting during WWII. I had no idea the Italian presence was as big as it was. They built towns and cities, infrastructure, and obviously a big military presence.
The author sometimes mocks the Italians for being lascivious, self-absorbed, and lazy, but at the same time he praises them for their intelligence, and outstanding architectural and road-building skills. He then points out that the locals didn't appreciate what they had been given, because they simply lacked the capacity.
It's an interesting and very familiar, if not PC, take.

I have heard (but never researched) that there was an ongoing debate among the Allied leadership on whether or not to bomb the Nazi Concentration Camps during and before the end of WWII -- and they obviously chose not to. [Of course, those were still relatively larger populations of captives than in the present case.]
If I were Israel, I'd be tempted to eradicate the enemy (and if so, would have done it immediately after 10/7) even though hostages would be killed ... seems almost merciful given their torture, but undoubtedly family members would likely not agree.

So the question becomes is it worth it for a fight regarding naming of bases when we need to implement massive budget cuts and restrictions on federal government bureaucrats with a very narrow margin in the House and a Senate that is eager to spend every nickel of taxpayers for themselves to get wealthy and powerful.

It could barely afford to maintain most of its 'classic' towns let alone shrines & artifacts. Well maintained b&bs were much of the economy.
People were so kind, especially considering I almost took a few out, and their sheep, every time I drove out of a parking lot & to the wrong side of the road.
Now it's a tale of old.

Its the great blind spot of American society. We've always given a pass to "religious exemption". Even when said Lutherans or Catholics insisted on pooling their money together to violate immigration law.
We still, en masse, can't wrap our heads around the idea that Muslims go into their Mosques to pray for our collective subjugation and/or death. And also to collect guns and cash and whatever else to expedite the process.

They posted video of a police operation where a school bus stops on a highway and turns on their lights. Police are there to pull over anyone who ignores the signals and zooms past the bus.
The Hodge twins call this a waste of resources and dozens of their followers call it entrapment.
First, they only set up this operation because there was an ongoing problem of people unsafely passing school busses that were loading and unloading children. Second, that's not entrapment. Entrapment is when police or police agents somehow encourage, induce, or force you to do something you wouldn't otherwise do. There was no such interaction between police and the person(s) they're pulling over.

Southern Baptists, at least, encourage teetotaling, but there is nothing required for baptism other than the repentance of sin and accepting the salvation of Christ as your redeemer. All Southern Baptist churches are independent- there is no hierarchical structure as there is in Episcopal, Lutheran or Presbyterian denominations. Individual churches may have greater strictures but those tend to lose members rather quickly. I can't speak for Free Will or Independent or Northern Baptists, as I grew up in a Southern Baptist church.

More common for Baptists to use grape juice or non alcoholic wine at the ritzier churches.
Once again, doctrine of avoidance is that specific items are not prohibited exactly but Baptists are urged to avoid simply because it can block one from the Lord by encouraging one to sin.
Going way back to the Anabaptist doctrines, it is to simplify and purify one's life to be closer to the Lord and a desire to go back to the ancient churches described in the Bible including congregants over hierarchy. Having church elders is about as far in governing hierarchy that was permissible and churches elected their ministers.

One of the priests at my Catholic elementary school had a history of alcoholism, and the wine in his chalice was grape juice.
He's also the priest my mother always had a really bad feeling about because of his obsession with comic books.

All Catholic churches have cisterns that pour out onto the ground. That's where the vessels are supposed to be cleaned (it's usually a separate sink).
However, it's become a dictate that priests are to clean the vessels at the end of the Eucharistic Rite at the altar. They drink what's left.

I often hear talk of the "sad situation of the people of Gaza", and when I say they brought all this destruction down upon themselves and have learned literally nothing from it (and, go ahead, prove me wrong!), I get sometimes silent, but often verbal disapproval: "Gazans cannot be that bad".
