Yep. Turtle soup was a staple on the dinner tables of the elites on both sides of the pond. Tureens were crafted in the shape of turtles , and became more ornate and ostentatious as the gilded set tried to one up each other.

Sea turtles are cool to look at but they will bite you if you mess around with them when you are scuba diving. We had a three legged sea turtle that hung around one diving area when we were stationed at GITMO. We named him Charley.

118 This one lacks the detail and movement of his usual seascapes but it still does Homer's wonderful skies. Homer doesn't do a realistic style but he still gets the emotion and movement of the scene. In this case, the emphasis is on the sky and the two men, one pleased with capturing the turtle which means they will eat well and the other looking on as if afraid to try getting the animal. The way the left hand figure is leaning towards the dock gives a sense of ongoing action. I can hear the water as he moves and the breeze, indicated by the clouds, makes the only indication of sound.

I prefer Homer's more dynamic seascapes and wouldn't hang this one but it is still interesting. It has the feel of an illustration from a book.

There were plenty of big bullfrogs along the bayous out of town. Cleaning them isn't much. Just cut off the legs and the skin peels off like a glove.

Wash'em off well when you got home and they're good for (my Mom) to fry. Delicious as almost any fresh aquatic critter tends to be.

Just like catfish, but catfish after being fileted are crcooked and formed into pellets, for catfish food. Frogs, I guess go to vocational rehab after losing their laigs.

The Feds stopping firearms policies for the next four years is already a win. Most states are doing a good job relaxing regulations and carry requirements for law abiding citizens. There's plenty I'd like to see Trump do regarding guns, but it the overall list of pressing priorities, it's actually pretty low at the moment.

226 201 I refuse to believe that. There are certain state issues that make it difficult for him to do certain things on a national level. The famous politico who aligns with Trump that is weak on to a is Youngkin. Everyone loves Youngkin and for sure he’s better than the Democrat alternative. But if you look at him from the day, he started running till now when he is in the last year of his four year term, he has never cared one wet about 2 A rights.

In my experience over decades, there’s not a lot that can be done on the federal level. Sure there are things they can do and I want them to do it. But pretty much everything done to promote to way in this country over the last 30 or 40 years has been done on the state level.

Even 20 years ago when states were winning to a rights like concealed carry an open carry, the National Rifle Association was normally in the caboose trying to get plots for things they didn’t do.

Trump could go for constitutional carry, but really it is a state issue and most southern states have done it. The Virginia has not. But the demos into Wicked were not the kind who are going to get bent out of shape by woke nonsense from its actors for the most part.

Compare Bud Light. Its demo was blue-collar men.

It's a bit early to start making predictions on what the Democrats will do in 2028 given the platform they have been running on since Obama's first term has completely failed and the party is taking more hits than Tex Cobb.

If they hope to be anything other than a coastal 2nd tier party going forward the party is going to have to change and start appealing to a much broader audience. Trannies and illegal aliens are about as popular as herpes and I don't see that changing in 4 years.

Iowa was just an example of how the overall schedule of a presidential primary, putting forward little states which gives them outsized influence, tends to make them more important.

The only important early state now is probably SC. IA was decreasingly important because it was about organizing a caucus and nothing else. NH was always too idiosynchratic.

But SC sets the tone. I think it's because it's big enough to be noticed in terms of delegates and also clean enough to throw off larger plans.

So, Adams, with the whole Dem establishment against him because of his rhetoric on immigration (including, you know, Biden's DOJ going after him for illegal payments from Turkey), maybe could do well in a place like NH? Probably not. The top 4 in 2020 were Bernie, Buttigieg, Klobucher, and Warren (Biden came 5th, showing how important NH is).

SC is where it's at. Will Adams do well there? His skin color will be all he has. He'll have no other support. Maybe...?

Also, "Wolf Man" doesn't look like a wolf at all. He looks like a diseased version of Jack Nicholson's werewolf in "Wolf" but with way worse make-up.

Julia Garner also is terrible in this. I thought she was a pretty good actress when watching "Ozark", but I guess not.

The problem with a lot of black politicians in the Democrat Party is a problem with a lot of their candidates in general: they're ridiculous.

They play well within the party, but they thrive in safe seats from safe districts/states and never seem to have real responsibility. They're also kind of dumb and make it known.

I keep thinking of Adam Schiff for some reason. Probably unrelated. Anyway.

It's why previous black candidates like dude from the 80s with the rainbow never gained much traction. You need the candidate who can combine appeal with the black base who vote as much as on skin color as anything, it seems, or at least their low propensity voters do, and the AWFLs who want the gay best friend as politician.

And this doubles back to their biggest, and for now most insoluble problem - they have allowed the Trans Activists and the illegal alien advocates to take over all the positions of power inside the Dem Party, and chased off all the normies. To the point where it is very difficult to see how anyone not supporting either of those positions could win a Dem primary race. It could happen, of course, but it will take a great internal civil war before it doesn. (much like what Trump has done in replacing the GOP-e with Maga)

CA would lose another seat. TX would gain 2 more.

But...the NRC under Whatley obviously takes election integrity seriously. Their focus was obviously the presidential race in 2024. Whatley's still in charge, and he's got 2 more years of focus for the primary season where the presidency isn't on the ballot.

I suspect a lot more progress to be made in the next 2 years.

They're still entrenched in the large urban areas (that sadly seem to control the states they're in), and in most governmental structures. Their influence will remain outsized until something changes regarding those two facts. Not saying it can't, just that there's much work yet to be done, and the enemy remains dangerous.
