It's interesting in that the angel of the Lord promised Hagar that her own descendants would be too numerous to count (Gen 16:10), but Ishmael himself would be as a wild animal, his hand against everyone and everyone's hand against him (Gen 16:12). I find the faces, especially, and human figures from this period are rather flat and the proportions are off. The angel's face and feet are examples. But Abraham and Sara are shown much more effectively, showing their age and concerns. The colors and detail in the building, clothing and landscape are better done. The angel is integral to the story, of course, but her figure is so stilted it is a distraction from the artistry of the rest of the painting.

The Utica Shale, which lies below the Marcellus and may hold even more natural gas, extends further northwest into Canada and further east toward Albany — a vast swath of the Empire State.
Together, these two formations are estimated to hold at least 500 to 1,000 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of natural gas, distributed throughout their extent. While it’s difficult to determine exactly how much of the gas lies within New York’s borders, one study from the New York Energy Research and Development Authority estimated it at between 160 and 300 Tcf — enough to supply the state’s total natural gas needs for up to 300 years, at current consumption rates. Wouldn't it be great is there was some Texas magic to unlock this wealth? Is MAGA Washington a network held together by mutually-implied blackmail? MAGA Mike told his goons not to subpoena Cassidy Hutchinson for fear texts from members asking for sexual favors would come out. Obviously yes. Only reasonable conclusions based on job appointments and roster. If any Washington Dems know anything about anything, they need to blow it all wide open. Dem women have received the rape threats as well. AOC was terrified the J6 mob would rape her. I thought that was an interesting comment, why did she fear that specific act. Now we know the answer to that question. not just sex offenders. I'm sure most, if not all of them have been committing a wide variety of other crimes, as well. A whole lot of them are drunks and drug addicts, too. The GOP isn't a party. It's a criminal racket. It is way past due for a global women's strike. I do find it odd that the Handmaid Tale is based on a biblical society. But more interesting is that these people took the actions of the story but forgot the lesson.
They took handmaids to have kids that were not sick. But the story ends in shame as Abe and Sarah send the handmaid out to die. G D saved the poor handmaid and made her son the father of a new people. Posted by: rhennigantx at January 24, 2025 10:17 AM (gbOdA) 258

There's a fascinating dispute about which Ur was Abraham's birthplace. Many in modern times have believed it was the great Sumerian city of Ur, in what is now southern Iraq, near Basra. However, there is another Ur in eastern Turkey, still named Urfa today, which has since ancient times claimed that it was the true birthplace of Abraham. The text in Genesis, "Ur of the Chaldees" is rather ambiguous since groups the Chaldees were an early group found several places in the Levant.
What makes this claim believable to me is that later in Genesis, when both Isaac and then Jacob travel to find wives among Abraham's relatives, they travel north to what would be the general vicinity of Urfa, not all the over to southern Mesopotamia. Abraham and Sarah’s Hospitality (Genesis 18:1-15)
Bible Commentary/Produced by TOW Project In part, "The story of Abraham and Sarah’s generous hospitality to three visitors who came to them by the oaks of Mamre is told in Genesis 18. Seminomadic life in the country would often bring people from different families into contact with one another, and the character of Canaan as a natural land bridge between Asia and Africa made it a popular trade route. In the absence of a formal industry of hospitality, people living in cities and encampments had a social obligation to welcome strangers. From Old Testament descriptions and other ancient Near Eastern texts, Matthews derived seven codes of conduct defining what counts for good hospitality that maintains the honor of persons, their households, and communities by receiving and offering protection to strangers.[1] Around a settlement was a zone in which the individuals and the town were obliged to show hospitality." (Codes not included.) This episode provides the background for the New Testament command, “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it. "The gears of government slowed to a halt this week after President Trump axed major federal initiatives across Washington, causing even routine functions to hit the skids. The Transportation Department temporarily shut down a computer system for road projects. Health agencies stopped virtually all external communications in a directive that risked silencing timely updates on infectious diseases. A hiring freeze left agencies wondering how parts of the government could adapt to new demands. Confusion loomed over how agencies should disburse funds allocated by the previous administration." A lot of these buildings have underground tunnels and even trams, so the congresscritters never have to see the unwashed rubes or deal with walking in ice or heat during their working day. So I could see her thinking that once you breach one building, you can get to the others. But the average person/protestor doesn't know about these tunnels or where they are. It is way past due for a global women's strike. Women in South Korea and Japan have been doing a modified strike for some time. They refuse to have sex with men, have children or get married. They are done with traditional female roles.

Nasty little secret on immigrants commit less crimes.
The original database has somewhere close to half of the criminals not classified as illegal or legal. So the numbers could be 50% higher or lower. They could always come here... the waifu craze is strong. My husband jokes sometimes his next wife will be a waifu when I'm not up to doing basic domestic tasks that day. I know it's a joke but I still pretend to slap him, hah. They don't event have to marry white men, I'm sure there's plenty of men of Asian descent within a generation or two happy to marry them. Does not always go well the other way. I had an odd duck relative go back to our "homeland" in Europe to find a wife, since American women were inferior... he had no takers, lol. I heard somewhere that Washington actually did want a national cathedral.
Posted by: Bulg ======= Possibly he wanted something comparable to the great cathedrals in Europe as he did attend church for a time in Alexandria but did not take communion there for whatever reason. Someone wrote Sacred Fire which dealt with Washington's religious beliefs which later secularists have distorted into something like Jefferson's. Not really similar at all. Paine went off the deep end, first with his involvement in the French Revolution and then by writing his anti religious screed, the Age of Reason and criticizing Washington for failure to free him from French prison after Paine got into trouble after the Revolution. Posted by: rickb223 at January 24, 2025 10:55 AM (OOnTd) ---------- When I went to get my driver's license renewed I noticed quite a few illegals in line too. They had pre-filled out paperwork to get a Real ID license. Pre-printed on a computer. All had the same documents. All just breezed through the process. Took me hours. And it was still fucked up. What is the Lumbee Tribe? President Trump wants federal recognition for North Carolina group https://tinyurl.com/ywfj9c2m Posted by: Grump928(C) at January 24, 2025 10:52 AM (aD39U) Grump, you're part Lumbee?! Cool! I was obsessed with the Lost Colony for a long time and read all about them. I still want to go to NC and see the live pageant about it, if they still do it. I was fascinated to see the purity culture in Native American groups during my research. It was like certain Native American groups smugly deprived the Lumbee descendants of any sweet fed recognition (and Bennies) for being under a certain percentage of documentable tribal ancestry. I don't know why this is on Trump's radar, but I'm here for it. Posted by: LizLem at January 24, 2025 11:01 AM (gWBY1) 465

I used to be big into prog rock, but once I got a taste of NWOBM I realized that most prog was pretentious crap. Rush and Crimson were the only prog groups that seemed to avoid that, I think it's mostly because Rush and Robert Fripp had really goofy senses of humor, even if they didn't let it come out in their songs. The best examples of that is Fripp's recent youtube videos with his wife, and Alex Lifeson's Rock Hall of Fame acceptance speech. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2i2ZbJnkFEY Posted by: IllTemperedCur at January 24, 2025 11:02 AM (FoIOl) 467

Fun fact about Paine: He was a Quaker. But he still supported the American Revolution, and made it possible for other Quakers to do so as well.
Posted by: Bulg I think his religious beliefs went to something like vague deism after his brush with the French Revolution. From the Rights of Man, he descended to the Age of Reason where he denied any Christian sect had any validity, Quote: "I do not believe in the creed professed by the Jewish Church, by the Roman Church, by the Greek Church, by the Turkish Church, by the Protestant Church, nor by any church that I know of. My own mind is my own church. All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions, set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit."
