Anyway, they did a Home Town makeover in Fort Morgan, Colorado. It puzzled me that in all the footage involving the locals, I did not see a single Somalian. But when I visited a few years back, I kept seeing groups of 8-10 Somalian men at various establishments. Apparently they all go shopping at Walgreens together.

No one knows the real number. Well, presumably our intelligence agencies know. But our publicly - facing government does everything in their power to avoid knowing.
I distinctly remember the number being 12 million illegals during the early Bush years. Say 2002 or 2003 or so.
Is it possible most of those have been made legal in the interim? Yes.
Is it probable the number of illegals here based on back of the envelope math of how many people DHS admits they think slipped by them + the number of people caught and released - the amount that our government made legal is 3 to 4x the 12 million? Yes.
But every day we allow this to go on, another x number of people will get legal status, and their anchor babies will be born.

I feel like this keeps getting missed in this discussion -- there are tens of millions of people living in the US right now who are citizens who were not born here. And tens of millions of their kids.
So someone can be a "US citizen" even if they grew up in India and only got to the US 5 years ago (well, a little over 5 years. You need a green card for 5 years to apply for citizenship, but you get my point.)
It's a complete lie by the media that is difficult to get a Visa, Green card, or Citizenship here. You just need enough money to hire a company to fake your resume, a US-based lawyer and pay the filing fees.
Anyone in the world with $30,000 and a cousin who can get them a letter saying they have a job offer in the US can be a citizen pretty easily.

They can do that for government contractors but I think the E-Verify program is voluntary for employers. All firms with employees are required to fill out I-9 forms for employees at the time of hiring. E-Verify automates that.
FWIW, I remember filling out the original I-9s for employees back in the 80's for my dad's firm.

It is illegal for a company to do any more than the bare minimum to verify someone is "in status" and can work in the US.
And it is illegal for a company to discriminate in hiring or firing based on "national origin" federally, and "immigration status" in NY.
In other words, immigrants are a protected class. Even if you highly suspect the person is presenting fake paperwork, it's illegal to say "hey, I'd like to see some naturalization paperwork or something other than this beat up social security card that any asshole could print at Kinkos."
We could change that fairly easily and that would solve a lottt of issues.

Halperin's comment that the Democrats have no leader is something I've been alluding to for a few years.
Who's in charge? Where is the central figure who can direct strategy? Ace wrote about this, but I wasn't around.
Anyway, I think it's a festering problem that's been bubbling up for years. It's why the effort to force preferred candidates in the 2020 primary failed so badly. There is no central authority, but you have several factions that act like they are the central authority.
It's really not helped by the fact that the one figurehead who could be the face of the central powers, Obama, refuses to lead (leading from behind). It's created this power vacuum that's been obvious for a few years, and Biden's presidency just made it so obvious that even someone like Halperin could notice once it was over.

Legal immigration is the bigger problem. According to our government (who lie constantly), 14% of our population is foreign born right now. The highest level in US history. And according to our lying government, 75% of those people are here legally.
Is it insane to think that the population of a country gets to decide who they share that country with? If it's not insane, then this shit needs to stop. Like yesterday. I'd like to know how many, nationally, were provided a "Real ID" driver's license. You know, the one that requires a dozen pieces of documentation to prove you are who you say you are. And then can be used to travel domestically without additional paperwork, enter various federal facilities including military installations and be used for all types of domestic ID requirements such as buying a firearm.

Last time I went to get my license renewed the places had signs everywhere saying that if you don't have every piece of ID you wanted they wouldn't give/renew a license. And I saw some poor shlub turned away trying to RENEW a license without...a birth certificate? I think. Remember...RENEW.

Agreed. There's one case involving some Chinese people out West on this subject, but I think that's the only caselaw saying the 14th created birthright citizenship.
And IIRC, that case involved someone who had at least one parent who was a permanent resident and/or citizen, so it's not exactly clear precedent that anyone born on US soil is automatically a US citizen.

.. actually, Trump used the same terminology as the MSM used to present the letter from the 51 former intelligence officials.
Seems, that both were wrong in the sense that the 51 said they had not seen the laptop to be able to make a real determination, but that it was indicative of a "Russian disinformation operation".
If Brennan et al had complained about the original representation of the letter as a "Russian disinformation operation", I would feel for these folks but they got exactly what they wanted.

It did, but it wasn't supposed to happen. There was a formalized immigration system back then, too. They had quotas from country of origins, and forms to fill out before you even got on the boat.
Obviously things were a bit looser back then, especially from the civil war through the great depression, where there was a real fear by some that we would not have enough young men to manifest destiny our land claims all the way to California.
But throughout that entire time, there was a process that was supposed to be followed.

Not really, though. They didn't identify any qualification for being part of the 3/5 beyond being a slave.
Once the Emancipation occurred there was no longer a class that the 3/5 applied to.
Now, if the language had said the 3/5 only applies to 'The Darkies'...we'd have actually needed some clarification.

That is, the "subject to" merely means our criminal laws apply.
That's there little dodge to avoid the rest of the decision that says, "of course children born here of diplomats are not citizens" by the hand-wave that "because diplomats aren't subject to our criminal laws."
And not "because they are subject of another nation."
Oh yeah, and every media story on this will never discuss that the one case, his parents were legal, lawful and permanent residents of the United States.
That there never would have even been a case if they were here illegally.

No, there should be no exceptions. These exceptions always swallow the rule. For example, tens of millions of people come here from all over the world on various "extraordinarily talented" visas. Most are about as talented as a C-student at community college. Once we open exceptions, entire industries spring up to try to fit people in to those exceptions, and the lawyers and our government collude to let as many through as possible.
Also, why would we want our military to be staffed by foreign nationals? That sounds like a recipe for disaster.
What needs to happen is a complete shut down of all immigration, legal or illegal, for at least a generation or two. If we can survive as a country and integrate the probably 20-25% of people that are already here legally that are either foreign born or children of foreign born people, then great.
But 20-25% is very possibly past the tipping point.
This is an existential crisis for the future of the US (and Western Europe, for that matter).

I get crabby about media coverage of Wong Ark Kim case AND the 14th Amendment natural born citizen provisions.
From Oyez, The Chinese Exclusion Acts denied citizenship to Chinese immigrants. Moreover, by treaty no Chinese subject in the United States could become a naturalized citizen. Wong Kim Ark was born in San Francisco to parents who were both Chinese citizens who resided in the United States at the time. At age 21, he returned to China to China to visit his parents who had previously resided in the United States for 20 years. When he returned to the United States, Wong was denied entry on the ground that he was not a citizen."
BTW, the Exclusion Act mentioned above was passed after Wong Ark Kim was born.
The 14th natural born language was specifically directed at reversing part of Dred Scott decision that claimed blacks could not be citizens of the US as they were never part of political community at the time of the Declaration of Independence (false claim btw).
