The Scoldening, Continued: Left Has Its First Second-Term #Resistance Hero, and Surprise! It's a Screechy Lesbian.

I actually don't know if she's a lesbian. She is "lesbian-coded," as the kids say. She looks like a frail genderless Fred Gwynne. I don't know whether I'm supposed to be Vincent Gallo or Vincent Callo with this bitchy "bishop."

Who could have predicted this inevitable betrayal by a drab neurotic leftwing Karen?

President Trump on Wednesday tore into the "nasty" Democratic bishop who lectured him at the National Prayer Service -- as the church leader confirmed she was sending him a political message.

Trump's takedown came after having to sit through Tuesday's service in which the Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde -- the Episcopal bishop of DC -- turned it into a rant about illegal migrants, refugees and the LGBT community.

"The so-called Bishop who spoke at the National Prayer Service on Tuesday morning was a Radical Left hard line Trump hater," the president wrote on his Truth Social account just after midnight.

"She brought her church into the World of politics in a very ungracious way," he said -- saying she did so in a "nasty" tone that was "not compelling or smart."

He singled out the way that the bishop called on him to "have mercy" on immigrant families "whose children fear that their parents will be taken away."

"She failed to mention the large number of illegal migrants that came into our Country and killed people," Trump wrote.

This Dedicated Servant of Self spared no time in booking herself on to #Resistance propaganda channels.

Collin Rugg
@CollinRugg

NEW: The liberal activist bishop who told Trump to show "mercy" to LGBT kids, says she called out the president because it was her responsibility to "counter" him.

Your responsibility is not to turn a sermon into a political debate.

Bishop Mariann Budde joined CNN to double down on her comments from earlier today.

"[LGBT kids and illegals] have been portrayed all throughout the political campaign in the harshest of lights... I wanted to counter..."

Stephen L. Miller

Her message is about unity which is why she's appearing on the most divisive tv show in the country.

Remember when James Carville said the Democrat Party now seemed to be nothing but scolding, preachy women?

Eric Abbenante
@EricAbbenante

James Carville does not back down when confronted about his comments that Democrat messaging is 'too feminine':

Carville: "If you start speaking like NPR, you're going to lose votes. I just don't like the term communities of color.

I live in New Orleans. They got three guys on the street corner. 'Hey fellas how are things in the communities of color today?' They said 'What is this son of a bitch talking about? Jive ass bastard out of here.'"

"We started on this coded language and we let it get away from us."
"Guess where our young male number is going? In the toilet. Because Democrat messaging is too feminine. It just is."

Jonathan Capehart asks Carville about his '"Democratic culture has too many preachy females. Too much 'Don't eat Hamburgers, don't watch football, wear a condom'. Man, shit, leave me alone."

Well, as someone said on X: They told Carville to shut up when he said that the Democrat Party's messaging is dominated by "preachy females," but the first well-televised #ResistanceHeroine of Trump's second term is a literal female preacher.

I wish I could find who said that. But I've searched for about 20 minutes and that's all the time I have.

The left is going to see that the tactic it has relied on since 2008 -- just shrieking at everyone to cow them into compliance -- is now hated by a supermajority of the public and will continue backfiring.

We're not afraid of you screechy, staticky bitches any longer.

Let me put it another way: do you think Obama's team would have allowed him to be sermoned at by some bible thumping southern baptist on TV in front of the entire country?

Of course not. They would have worked behind the scenes to make sure that didn't happen.

So Trump's team either didn't know this was coming and was incompetent, OR they knew this was coming and decided, for whatever reason, that it was either neutral or good to do.

If Trump's team is incompetent, it doesn't portend well to the next 4 years.

MAGA turns on Christianity. Attacks the words of Jesus Christ. Who among the monied evangelicals will join him in the attack ?

Video of that event is amazing. Camera was on The Family as it reacted to the Bishop's words. Lots of smirks and eye rolling. But if looks could kill, Melaria murdered the Bishop. Have never seen anyone look so mean.

If there was a strategy behind it, fine.

My concern is that in 2016, Trump had no strategy and squandered a lot of what could have been a huge opportunity on nonsense.

He claims to have learned from that and surrounded himself by better people.

If that's the case, and those better people weren't fully aware of what this lady was going to say before she said it, that heavily hints to me that this Trump term will be a re-run of last one since this is such an easily avoidable situation.

I heard from a number of people who said if it was a liberal preaching liberal bs from the pulpit they were leaving the church. Apparently, the discernment committee got the message, because the new guy is conservative. In 2009, the Episcopal Church had about 1.8 million baptized members.
By 2011, it was the 14th largest denomination in the United States, with an estimated 1.2 percent of the adult population or about 3 million people self-identifying as mainline Episcopalians.
In 2013, the church had 1,547,779 active members.
In 2019, the Episcopal Church reported 1,800,000 members.
In 2020, the church reported a decline, with 1,584,785 members, a drop of 61,000 members from the previous year.
By 2023, the number of active baptized members in the U.S. was 1,432,082.

The Episcopal Church has seen a steady decline in membership since the 1960s, with notable drops in recent years. You many now continue.

My guess would be US. UK still has a lot of people that love the royal family, and the King is the head of the Anglican Church, so for that reason it will hang on for as long as the monarchy does.

Interestingly, the Anglican Church of North America had a schizm from the Archbishop of Canterbury over woke stuff a couple of years ago. So even though we call ourselves Anglicans over here, our Bishops here aren't under the UK church's authority.

But in general, if there is widespread misbehavior in one's church that one knows about, it is the pastor's job to address it. Yes, in the sermon. Yes, publicly.

And if the people engaging in that misbehavior feel called out or attacked, even though the pastor doesn't address them by name or give any identifying information, well... that's called "pricking their consciences."

My parents are Democrats. My brother and I both moved right in college. I know countless other young guys who had the same experience. The old cliché was "kid from conservative family goes off to college and becomes a liberal." We're witnessing a total inversion of that dynamic.

-----------------

I saw that coming but not to this spectacular extent. It is logical in the sense that children need to rebel against their parents to stake their own personality. With liberal parents the only option kids have is to go conservatives.

The same reaction happened in the 60s and 70s when kids went liberal to differentiate themselves from their parents. We are only at the beginning of this wave so so I hope more young people join the pendulum swing back to sanity.

Fetterman is going to be allowed so many more "bipartisan" votes because Republicans are going to pass everything they can with more than bare majorities. Schumer won't need Fetterman's vote to kill anything.

Cloture votes? It's either getting 7 Democrat votes or 0. Majority votes? It's getting at least 50 Republican votes or 53. That gives Fetterman so many opportunities to say, "I bucked Schumer" even though it's completely meaningless.

Following delivery of that plan, USNORTHCOM head Gen. "Same people lectured that Trump was "dumb" for walking into the lions den of the black press bullshit event. Maybe he's not dumb and maybe he has different priorities than you."

Recall that the phrase "walking into the lions den" comes from a story of Daniel. He walked into the lions' den because of the edict of Darius, King of the Medes and Persians, that no one worship any God but him. Daniel continued to pray to the God of Israel and Darius, unwillingly but forced by his own edict, sent him into the lions' den. But because he was faithful and trusted in God, Daniel emerged unharmed and Darius sent Daniel's enemies (who had tricked Darius into issuing the edict hoping that it would result in Daniel's death) into the lions' den instead.

Based on that, "walking into the Lions' den" is exactly what Trump should have done, and continued to do.

Don't trust them any farther than you can throw them, but by all means use their money and connections and then discard them when they've served their purposes. They won't mind. They're used to it.

The Dems need a new playbook for more reasons than Trump 2.0. Have you heard many Democrats talk about black slavery reparations lately? Every time they do it pisses off more Hispanics, Asians, Indians (dot), and other minorities. The Dems seem to have finally figured this one out. Constantly pimping unions as the true way forward for American workers has also become a net loser for the Dems, I believe.

430 Optics have their place.

3 days into a new administration is not that place.

Optics are about convincing people of things. The public doesn't need convincing for almost 2 years. The GOPe in Congress isn't being convinced by this.
Posted by: TheJamesMadison
========
Optics are appearances that bear the same relationship of rhetoric to dialectic.

Anyone using optics (other than firearms as noted) is telling me that they accept media framing of events. That increasingly is only true of people that watch the media all the time.

I would suggest anyone interested in public opinion read a book on polling by a former well regarded one, Yankelovich called Coming to Public Judgment. Basically, once the public has come to public judgment on a person or issue, 'optics' are simply bleating in a whirlwind.

This is why lawfare ultimately failed--the Left and even the GOPe have been so transparent in claiming Orangeman Bad that they destroyed their own credibility so that persuadeables don't exist anymore on that issue.

They went nowhere because the donor class told all of them to be wholesale in support of amnesty and open borders, and they all complied (except Ted Cruz, which is probably why he lasted as long as he did in that race).

The donor class was not going to let their effort to completely take over the Republican Party through the lens of open borders die. They had the RNC autopsy of 2012 to back them up.

My question is: What is the Republican donor class like right now? Because they're going to have a very big say in how the Republican Party operates post-Trump.

There really aren't.

But people from Literal Day One have treated that book as if it were some kind of magic totem that confers authority and not as a simple Testament of the One who really has authority (and why He does, and why we ought not forget that).

In the early days every screwball jackass in the greater eastern mediterranean and west asia was claiming they "found" some additional book or another that proved that Jesus was on their side and everyone should do things their way.

To this day people still whip out snippets of scripture that have nothing to do with anything as justification for whatever stupid hobby horse they're on, or whatever bug they got up their ass. That's not the Book's fault.

Having a Bible and not praying to and speaking with the Lord yourself is a lot like having a Chilton's manual but never even having seen a 1970 Torino. But which is more important? The Truth? Or subjugating people?

"Fire crews are battling a swiftly growing blaze dubbed the Hughes Fire burning near the town of Castaic, a suburb in the foothills and mountains of northern Los Angeles County. Residents in the immediate vicinity of Castaic Lake are under mandatory evacuations, according to the LA County Fire Department.

As of 12:30 p.m., about 90 minutes after it started, the fire had burned more than 3,400 acres, according to Cal Fire. The fire began at 10:53 a.m. and burned 500 acres in one hour, Cal Fire said. That’s equivalent to a spread rate of about a football field burned every 10 seconds.

Images showed a large plume of smoke moving west toward Interstate 5 as flames burned near Castaic Lake in the grassy hills just north of Santa Clarita."

Trump held separate meetings with House and then Senate leaders and members. Much of what is desired comes from the limitations imposed on reconciliation in the Senate. Senate rules permit that being used twice in a Congress and the Senate parliamentarian rules on what has germane budget effects and what does not.

Non-germane items that do not affect the budget can then be filibustered as they cannot be included in the reconciliation package.

So the controversy is over separate smaller bills or one big package slid through by reconciliation. House and Senate differ on that apparently.

Kamala was defeated mostly by being herself, although my favorite conspiracy theory remains that she lost because Michael Malice did the emperor's new clothes thing about her obvious alcoholism on Joe Rogan's podcast.

=======

It's not about winning elections.

It's about affecting candidate behavior and rhetoric.

Trump was able to waltz in during 2016 because the donor class had forbidden anti-amnesty/immigration talk from their candidates, 14 of the 15 (Cruz being the exception). Trump wouldn't have been able to make a serious dent in the primary if someone like Scott Walker had said, "Close the border." But they didn't. They all became mealy-mouthed losers on the issue.

Thanks for the reminder of Sanford's second flameout trajectory. SC could use a man like DeMint again.

=======

Further backstory on the Sanford flame out:

Arrington lost the general election to Jim Cunningham (I think that was his name). SC-1 was in Democrat hands for a whole term. Nancy Mace then won in the next election.

I mean, I have my problems with Mace, but she's a step up from Sanford as Rep.

The lesson being: losing a safe House seat for a term to get someone better is possible.

Back when I did empirical research, I did a fairly massive study with some colleagues over campaign spending of House members and their ability to turn money into winning (and vote percentages). Had about a decade worth of data using primaries and general elections as some other factors are involved in general elections. Used the House because larger dataset for stats.

Turns out campaign spending was a cubic function in House seats. You need a certain amount of spending to do well then all of a sudden, you see spending more means you have a strong competitor so likelihood of winning goes down, but at a certain stage, if you can swing it, you can buy an election by spending grossly disproportionate amounts (Michael Huffington for a CA House Seat) and Corzine in NJ (not in dataset but example). They used their own money to win.
