Sorry, O/T, but important
Mrs. Paco and I both emailed Thom Tillis - who I regret to say is one of our senators - and told him that, if he doesn't support Pete Hegseth, then he is - and we meant this in the kindliest possible way - a crawling worm, who would definitely forfeit our support in his next run for office. If you're from NC, call or email his office. I believe he's highly susceptible to the prevailing wind, and once the wind sock hits him in the face, he may do the right thing. Posted by: Scarymary Sadly, I did without weapons while there (sure I did). The biggest threat while hiking are ill prepared Chinese tourists (no water, starting the hike at 1300, bad attitudes, etc.) and the hordes of German tourists - equally ill prepared (flip flops or barefoot, no water, inappropriate dress for the weather, and also late starts). If you are on the trail by 0600, you'll miss them all. You will encounter them on your way back down though. Posted by: Tonypete at January 24, 2025 08:04 PM (WXNFJ) 49

My brother Joel was on the road for his job in the area, and decided he'd go visit Yosemite. However, due to watching a lot of Bugs Bunny cartoons he was too used to Yosemite being pronounced (yo-smite) and unfortunately asked a woman in the area where to find yo-smite instead of Yo-Sem-it-ee. He was much embarrassed, but apparently she thought it was funny. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at January 24, 2025 08:07 PM (2VST1) 56

The Mist Trail is one of Yosemite’s most iconic and most popular trail. 🥾 ------------- I've been to Yosemite a couple of times -- amazingly beautiful. My ex hiked Half Dome back in the day (the 90's during the Lilith Fair mania with her female friends). She said there was a stretch where you had to climb up (and subsequently) down a vertical ladder -- and it terrified her, because if somebody above you slipped and fell, they'd take out everybody below them like a bowling ball. I'd like to hike in Yosemite but CA doesn't accept TX concealed carry. So that's out.
Posted by: Tonypete at January 24, 2025 08:04 PM (WXNFJ) -------------- Now live in Northern AZ and have been to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon about a dozen times (and in '93 hiked down & out -- staying in Phantom Ranch) ... and would like to do the Rim-To-Rim hike if I ever retire. Anywho, whenever I go, it's astonishing -- as most of the people visiting the park are speaking a foreign language. I also drive up to Page, AZ (near the Utah border, where "slot canyon" tours are all the rage) -- and pre-Covid there were always big open-air buses on the streets filled with ChiComm tourists ... all wearing masks, natch. At least Trump can use the opportunity to project strength and impose some conditions on aid. (Which won’t be followed.) CA isn’t as hopeless as people think. There are conservatives there and the people of CA can have bouts of common sense. They recently re-criminalized shoplifting and kicked out Gascon. The GOP has written off CA for 20 years. It’s a bad strategy. The state is hopelessly liberal in some ways, but giving up on it is foolish. Posted by: Disinterested FDA Director at January 24, 2025 08:41 PM (lDb3Z) 209

OK. I forget how to set italics in a comment and I'm not going to the Barrel trying to do more than I did with the underscore.
Posted by: PennaLady Underscore 'on' = [ u ] Underscore 'off' = [ / u ] Remove the spaces. Italics = i Strikethrough = s Bold = b For every open or 'on', you need a close of 'off'. If you use them frequently, put ALL of the 'off' tags in your name space where your nic 'PennaLady' is like this: PennaLady [ / u ] [ / i ] [ / b ] [ / s ] But remember to remove the spaces i left in there to give you the example. 🚨 BREAKING: LA Mayor Karen Bass and Trump with a very tense exchange now... Bass is losing her cool over insistence from community members and Trump who say that clearly, people aren't being allowed back on their property soon enough. TRUMP: People are willing to clean up themselves. BASS: They can. TRUMP: That guy right there that's talking - he'll be there tonight, throwing everything away. He doesn't want to wait. You have emergency powers just like I do. You need to exercise them. BASS: I DID exercise them. TRUMP: You can do everything within 24 hours. BASS: Individuals can clear out their property. ATTENDEES: When can we go back to our home? BASS: We think... within a week. TRUMP: That is a long time. BASS: We want people to be safe. TRUMP: You know what? They're not safe now. A week is a long time. I see hundreds of people not allowed to go on their lots. It won't burn anymore... it's done. They want to clean up. They are just standing there, saying they need a permit. Everyone says 18 months. Posted by: andycanuck (5LoD7) at January 24, 2025 08:45 PM (5LoD7) 227

That's not a cop. That's the "security grandpa". Apartment complexes in Asia (this clip is from China) hire retired men as security guards to sit at a desk, walk around and see what's going on, sometimes sign for packages. They're kind of nonpersons — the residents see them but don't have a lot of interaction. That attacker didn't expect he'd encounter a lion. This clip ends too early. Andy Ngo says the German illegal who killed a border agent in Vermont was a "trans activist."
Shocking, I know. https://tinyurl.com/y6yn4j9c Posted by: Meade Lux Lewis === The link led to an updated version, thus: Andy Ngo @MrAndyNgo I can confirm that the German migrant who was the accomplice to a shooting resulting in a border agent in Vermont being killed on Inauguration Day is a trans activist. Other trans activists have been pressuring people who knew German trans person Felix Baukholt, who died in the shootout, to remain quiet. The female accomplice in the car, Teresa Youngblut, has been charged. Posted by: andycanuck (5LoD7) at January 24, 2025 09:13 PM (5LoD7) 321
