4 President Trump has signed a stay of execution for TikTok for 75 days.

Trump discussed this earlier today. His reasoning is if TicTok is shut down it has a value of $0. On the other hand, if it's allowed to stay open, its value is $1 trillion of which the US is going to claim one half. Plus the US is going to dictate how it's run and where its data is stored.

WHat is the exact reason it won't install? There are some tricks to get around the TPM (well somewhat) and the secure/UEFI boot requirements.

12 So now I'm scratching my butt, and trying to think.

Spectrum Modem is giving me almost 500mbps download speed using the phone app to test it.

Cat6'd over to the Nighthawk router which is cat6'd to the other three nighthawk routers though the powered ethernet switch.

Those are all se up in Access Point mode to feed back to the main router.

Up till very recently I ws pulling good speed tests on the main router, but suddenly down to about 30mbps testing on the laptop using wifi.
All while on my phone, using wifi I am getting about the same speed that the Spectrum modem is getting.
And yes, the modem has wifi disabled to allow the router to handle wifi traffic.

Only thing that I changed was the addition of a cat6 patch cable from the main router over to the printer.

It tested fine on the cable tester, but once Mrs VIA wakes up, I may unplug that cable from the router and retest to see if the causes a change.

Windows 11 is pissing me off bigly, moving to more phone-like "ads everywhere" type of shit. I do not like that one little bid. Also this "efficiency mode" shit that you can't easily turn off.

During a long boot with an upgrade process with a lot of shit going on, it made Chrome unusable for 10 minutes. There were some background processes going on, and it kicked in efficiency mode on Chrome, and it just sat there and wouldn't load anything.

I finally found a command line switch that will turn it off for that chrome instance, but nothing where you can turn it off at the system level for everything. There may be, I just haven't found it.

I'm going to stick with Win10 until it gets too old with lack of security. D-day is what, Oct 2025?

19 I was making a joke about getting an EO in the vein of strike while the iron's hot and hope for the best. The truth of the matter is I'll pay the $30 come October to get another year of Windows 10 support. At that point my machine will be pushing 9 years old at which point I'll just get rid of it for something new and faster and shinier. After that, I'll probably do the Window 11 hacks and use it as a media server.

I don't know what I'm doing different than a number of other people but I have never seen an ad on Windows 11. Windows 11 does take a bit more work to shut off all the crap you don't want to deal with but for the most part once it's set you don't ever have to look at it again. I can only think of one instance of something coming back to life that I had previously shut off. Generally, my experience has been Windows 11 is a somewhat worse version of Windows 10.

26
Rufus, the USB bootable ISO burner, has options in it to automatically inject a lot of registry tweaks into the Win11 install image that turns most of the shit off.

Main thing with me is getting a regular old local account and not the "cloud" MS account. It can do that. How long a regular old NT style local account will last before they force a MS account, I don't know.

Another thing I noticed. Using Rufus, I was able to get an old MBR install to a partition (the BIOS is UEFI, but using CSM mode to do a regular old style MBR BIOS boot).

However, Windows update would not do the feature update to 24H2. I had to do that manually using a Rufus modified image.

My main machine here is an older (c 2019) ASRock mo/bo. In UEFI mode, there is some bug/glitch with the hard disk controller. It has a separate AHCI controller with a couple of additional SATA ports. That controller will hang Win10 every so often in UEFI mode. In CSM regular BIOS mode, it works fine.

The only fix was just to disable that controller to use Win10 in UEFI mode, but I'm got a disk or two on that controller.

RH is temperature dependent. Think of RH as the ratio of the existing moisture content to saturation water content.

The the lower the temperature, the less water the air "can hold" (I hate to use that phrasing, but it's common. There is no holding, it just a system of water vapor and air mixed, with a partial pressure of H20 and air partial pressure).

To get condensation (or deposition below freezing), the RH needs to get close to 100%.

At 69%, dew point is below 6F.

(goes to Linux Mint forums)

Basically this guy uses a Latin America Spanish layout, but with each reboot it's picking the wrong keyboard layout (not what he wanted).

This problem manifested after he upgraded to version 21.3 of Linux Mint with the Cinnamon desktop.

The solution involves "IBus Preferences"
Start button > Preferences > IBus Preferences

He writes as his solution:

"I happen to have IBus installed (if I remember correctly, I installed it to be able to use accents in my language in a specific application), but most probably with the upgrade the preferences I had for IBus were lost, and one of them was "Use system keyboard layout" (you have to check it), which is located in the "Advanced" tab of the IBus preferences. With this my keyboard layout is preserved between system restarts."

Now if that isn't your solution, I'd recommend searching the forums and see if someone else has run into your exact problem.

108 Evening and morning to all the late toilers and early risers on this, the first full day of DJT as President 47! (Insert rejoicing moment here)

i'm off, or am working remotely, since we expect snow. Yes, that's right, the white stuff from the skies, and a good 5+ inches of it in the city -- starting around seven am and lasting until nearly dark. Amazing. Temp is 34 right now, I don't wanna know the wind chill, and we have about two hours until first light and the snow begins. Interstates are already closed and the bridges will be shortly.

I'm fine, as long as the power doesn't go off. The energy co. has been working to cut down branches that might ice up, fall, and take power lines with them, but still we could get stuck. Anyway, as I said yesterday, I have food for me and the cats and plenty of incidentals, books to read, etc.

One X post showed a DC cop telling people who where waiting for the hostages, that after a few had been released, that was it for the night. Different posts related that the DC Jail was slow walking the releases. Another one of hostages related how the half-way house staff was being held made the release intentionally slow and then slapped a GPS ankle bracelet on him before letting him go. All of this was rather fluid but my take is the hostage holders were screwing over the hostages one last time.

Anyway, I'd do it for spouse but he doesn't bring a sandwich to work. There is no cafeteria where son works and it would take too long to drive into town and get a sandwich.

Also, Bookbinders horseradish sauce/ which is found in the aisle with condiments is strong. Maybe they don't have that in Canada, G&C

Trump and the Republicans have roughly 12 months to ram through as much shock and awe before the 2026 mid-term elections heat up.

If the pattern holds, the Donks will more than likely take control of one or both chambers and that will derail most of the agenda that Trump can get through Congress.

Hence the urgency of getting going at warp speed right out of the gate.

Still, no excuse. If they aren't on the street by late morning, send in a hundred US Marshalls and arrest everyone who denies them freedom.

And ignore their lawyers when they come to bail them out. Give them time to figure out there is a new sheriff in town, which is same as the old one.

275 I dreamed last night that I had a Jaguar E-type convertible, just bought it from somebody. I switched on the engine, and a strange black construction like small girders emerged from the windshield wiper area and blocked a good part of my vision. It took me a while to realize that if I pushed *back* on the wiper lever, it would retract.

Then I was driving it *indoors*, down a very wide hall on a polished wood floor at a school where, apparently, I worked. I was worrying about a place to park it, and if I could get the top up when I did. Naturally I was concerned about students leaving something unpleasant on the seats if I didn't button the car up.

Then I woke up and Stirling leaped up to say good morning with a chirp. Back to reality.

Since I dream in color, I was pleased to see that the E-Type was red with a light tan interior.

The E-Type was amazing for its day: supercar performance at a reasonable (for a sports car) price. And the styling has never been surpassed. Equaled, maybe, by its contemporary, the original Corvette Sting Ray, but not surpassed.

Re the dew point vs RH above. Radar is painting some snow moving in close (just approaching the SC line from the West). The surface air is so dry here (dew point about 7F), that you can have snow falling from the upper layers, but it evaporates(sublimes) before it hits the ground.

When that's going on, you'll see dew point start rising, and temp dropping (heat of sublimation being pulled out of air mass).

When it finally gets the air close enough to saturation, some will make it all the way to the ground.

Once in Denver I sat in a well-restored 113: dark silver color with a dark chocolate interior. Very nice. If I could buy a classic MB, I'd go for one of those, a 280SL.
