This tool helps urban planners, people who work in health and education, and community advocates understand whether certain populations are disproportionately impacted by smog, toxic waste, or other hazards in a specific area. "

14 I sometimes like to go on a weekday to the RC church and sit there and listen to the scriptures and pray and hear the priest. I don't take the Eucharist, of course. The problem up here, of course there are no masses until Monday evening because after doing four or so Sunday masses the priests are tired out and probably don't want to do a Monday Mass. Therefore, I'll have to pray at home or if they weather isn't too bad go and sit in the church which I serve.

Outgoing U.S. climate envoy John Podesta is angry that Trump's re-election could mean the end for the climate scam.

"In January, we're going to inaugurate a president whose relationship to climate change is captured by the words 'hoax' and 'fossil fuels'. He's vowed to... once again withdraw the United States from the Paris Agreement. That is what he has said, and we should believe him."

“The funding, the people, the cultural knowledge associated with these tools and the data are just as, if not more, important than the data itself,” so say the people whose careers and political power depend on being a member of the the climate change priesthood.

24 Evening and morning to all the Sunday toilers and early risers! It's the Sun's Day, though you'd never know it right now. The local CBS outlet says it's 49 F., but with a stiff NW breeze so that wind chill is 43. And I have to work out this morning. I've been off since Wed., and won't get a chance again until maybe Thursday.

We're due to visit the Texas Roadhouse for dinner tonight. (I didn't want to go when it's crowded, like Fri. or Sat.) Hope it's good, because I sure expect it to be $$$.

That too. Though a little higher waistline in men's suits would not be a bad idea. I'm sick of seeing TV and other supposedly well-to-do, professional people wearing suits that look like they've stolen their little brothers' Communion outfits. Every one of 'em shows a slice of shirt below the button of their suit coat and have a triangle of tie peeping out like a little tongue. You never saw that on older suits, on TV or real life.

Vests would solve that problem, but nobody wears a three-piece suit now. And double-breasted jackets, while they look great, are awkward in practice; they have to stay buttoned most of the time.

44 Re: 41 -- not that I have much occasion to wear a suit now, never at work, for instance. Much as I love the idea, it would be odd for me to spend the money for a made-to-measure suit when I'm about to retire.

My usual attire in cooler weather is more sorta-Western: boots and jeans, a button-down shirt, and a sport jacket if the occasion requires it. Maybe a fedora in the Open Road style. I like to look less like the cowboy who works on the ranch, and more like the guy who *owns* the ranch.

49 Due to a unique set of circumstances, I may be in a financial position to replace the home Heatpump based HVAC system soon.

Not just the outside unit, but upgrade to the high end variable speed inside/outside unit that would really benefit the single unit/zoned system that this two story house has.

The older barometric bypass valve and ducting system to support a single speed air handler is really outdated, and the system is rather inefficient.

And the newer variable speed units can respond to the varying airflow demands that a toned system called for.

And with a SEER of up to 23, I should see reduced energy usage as well.

Now it's gone too. Guess making cars isn't that easy.

___________

After WWII, Henry Kaiser gave a speech saying he was entering the car manufacturing business and that he was investing $100 million in the endeavor. Someone from the audience called out, "Give that man one white chip!" Kaiser's enterprise didn't last long.

52 I attended the first hot air balloon festival in 14 years here in Las Cruces, New Mexico yesterday and where I and about another 25 photographers, an ad-hoc squadron, memorialized the whole affair.

12 balloon teams showed up for the 7:00 a.m. Mass Ascension which actually started at about 8:00 for the assembled throng which was approximately the size of a well-attended high school football game or for the numerically inclined about about 1,500 people. This as it turns out was a proper number of people for such an affair as it ended up being rather informal which allowed everybody to mingle with complete freedom amongst the balloons as they were prepared for flight.

There is something quite glorious about being surrounded by these colorful and gigantic balloons as they expanded from flat expanses of fabric as the heat of their gas burners gave them the living form that pulled their tethers tight and when released would silently lift into the sky and drift towards the Organ mountains some 10,000 ft high and some 10 miles away.

59 "Sounds fancy! "

Unfortunately, we live in an all electric community.

And while the heating season usually isn't too bad, the cost of electricity will do nothing except go up through the years.

The old system ( 12 years old) does work, and we have had very little supplemental heating coil usage even during these days the other week when we dipped into the low 20's at night.

But, I do have the opportunity to make a costly upgrade with little out-of-pocket expense right now.

And I can always use the argument that with Mrs VIA's desire to enlarge/ screen in the patio and install the salt water system based hot tub, that runs on 220 Volt, every savings of energy will count.

If this becomes a regular Las Cruces event, which I think it will, in a few years time it will grow to such size that there will be rules and regulations and nanny goats by the dozen that will relegate us attendees to the sidelines for our "own safety". But for right now there's none of that and that made this fantastic good fun.

105 Morning peeps.

Nobody needs to plant a tracker on your car anymore. You just need to make a phone call to a data broker.
------
Almost every car sold here in the US has GPS... whether you bought, and are paying for a navigation option, OnStar or whatever... or not. It is more economical to assemble the vehicle with it, than without, and just leave it "off."

Or so they want you to believe. There are many instances of people finding a GPS transmitter in their vehicle even though they didn't/don't subscribe to any sort of service that would use one.

And everyone using their phone, with or without Apple CarPlay or Android Auto with maps or something like Waze is broadcasting their movements at all times anyway.

It will then rest itself every 24 hours so that i don't ever forget.

1. Take a renewable-resource hardcopy dispenser ( a legal pad )
2. Use another renewable-resource device guaranteed to work even in a power outage ( a pencil )
3. Make a list of tasks to be done with a box beside each task.
4. Upon completion of the task, make a checkmark in the box.
5. Upon completion of all tasks, remove the top layer of the hardcopy dispenser ( the top page ), and go back to step 1.

You can optimize this solution by pre-loading the task list on every layer of the hardcopy dispenser, which will eliminate step 3.

Good luck!

166 Oh, I see. Don Jr.'s former fiancee will be there as well as Bettina, and they'll probably be sitting near each other. The article admits that Don and Kimberly, the ex-fiancee, have a "cordial relationship." That's good to hear. I can just picture the glares if, in 1981, my work or social commitments had required my ex-wife to be seated near the lady who became Mrs. Wolfus No. 2. If looks could kill, Mrs. No. 2 would have been sliced, diced, and left to bleed out.

203 National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and members from his Otzma Yehudit party submitted resignation letters from the government and coalition on Sunday, as they had previously promised if the deal was approved.
"The reckless approval of an agreement with the Hamas terror organization, which includes releasing hundreds of murderers with the blood of men, women, and children on their hands—some to Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria—represents a disgraceful surrender," The party stated.
"This deal forfeits the IDF’s hard-won achievements in the war, involves withdrawing forces from Gaza, and halts the fighting in a manner that capitulates to Hamas."

What was the one true thing he said?
"assume it to be..."
