> Our venerable Keurig failed last week, and I was able get another one a couple of days later.
-------- Ours crapped out this week too! I took it apart after I'd done a bit of research on it. Most common issue was a thermostat that needed to be reset. No bueno with that. But... I noticed a broken wire. A tiny wire. Like 5 hair strands thick. It was for the brew controls and with a bit of work I re-routed it so I could splice the two ends together. Design flaw. The lid that you open (repeatedly) to insert a K-cup and then close, then open again to remove, then close again pinched that wire so many times that it just broke. But we bought a new one anyway. 🥴 Posted by: Martini Farmer at January 18, 2025 08:50 AM (Q4IgG) 54

Thank you, Mr. President! I’m grateful for your trust, and am very much looking forward to continuing my service to our great men and women in uniform. To all men and women with a desire to serve your country in uniform, come join us now! We want the best, brightest, and strongest of you at this critical juncture in American history. ------------ US President-elect Donald Trump has announced former Space Force official Matthew Lohmeier as the next under secretary of the Air Force. "Matt is a former fighter pilot, and Space Force Squadron Commander, who has devoted his life to serving our Great Nation," Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. "Matthew will work with the GREAT Secretary of Defense Nominee, Pete Hegseth, to end the devastating "woke" policies that have destroyed our Military, and make our Country STRONG AGAIN," he said in the post, adding that Lohmeier had served as "a proud graduate" of the US Air Force Academy. Corpus Christi Church was gutted by the wildfires, but a Captain Bryan Nassour, who was taking a breather between calls, felt compelled to sift through the ruins and discovered the tabernacle was still intact.

"Sam goes to temple and listens to the rabbi. After a while the rabbi asks anyone who needs a special prayer should come up for a special blessing. Sam gets in line, and when it's his turn, the rabbi asks: "Sam, what do you want me to pray about for you?" Sam replies: "Rabbi, I need you to pray for my hearing." The rabbi puts one hand on Sam's ear, places the other hand on top of Sam's head and prays and prays and prays. After a few minutes, the rabbi removes his hands, stands back and asks Sam: "Nu, Sam, how is your hearing now?" Sam says, "I don't know, Rabbi, it's not until next Wednesday" Posted by: runner at January 18, 2025 09:01 AM (g47mK) 91

------- Retribution, not reconciliation. But we'll get reconciliation anyway. Maybe Trump and his surrogates have the intestinal fortitude to collect scalps, but either they won't or will be thwarted at every attempt. I hope they're really pissed off and stay that way during the entire 4 years. Anger tends to focus. They'll need that. Posted by: Sebastian Melmoth at January 18, 2025 09:01 AM (D6PGr) --- The Enemy right now is disorganized and demoralized, lashing out in every direction without any kind of coordination. This is a good thing, because the volume of last-minute actions prove that they were arbitrary and capricious, not in any way based on merit. We have won an important battle in the ongoing spiritual war, and for you Tolkien fans, I think it is analogous to Helm's Deep, which was about survival, not conquest. We've wrecked a good portion of their strength and captured a stronghold, but there is much yet to do, and we will see defeats and setbacks, but we cannot succumb to pessimism of despair. The Enemy deemed the time was right, and launched a global onslaught of evil not seen in my lifetime, and God answered, decisively. (cont) Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. I need to give praise to our Lord. A year + ago, we were praying for my BIL. He woke up with no feeling in his legs, unable to walk. Doctors discovered a large cancerous growth on his spine. Prognosis was not good for either the cancer or his mobility. Nine hour surgery, chemo and therapy over the last year. In August , while still using a walker, he started riding his trike again. In September, they started taking short trips in their RV. In November, they took it to Arizona for a two month stay. He is walking with the use of a cane. Last week, he was pronounced cancer free. Yesterday he drove his 1976 Jeep CJ5 project for the first time. He is a tough, resilient guy but he gives all the credit to our Lord. I had told him we were praying for him on the thread so he wanted to say thanks.

There's this Book that tells the story from beginning to end. After 6 days of creating this universe and everything in it, the One who had done so declared it all very good. There was no sin nor death in it. After a time, man disobeyed his Creator and brought sin and death into it. The world entered this current evil age we are now in. After a few thousand years, the Creator Himself left His throne in heaven, became the 100% God/man and with His own blood paid the penalty for our sins. At some point He will return again and after pouring out His wrath will set up His Kingdom on earth for a thousand years. At the end of this thousand years there will be a new heaves and new earth. f'd, I do my prime rib for the 20 minutes initial at 450 or 500, then turn the temp down to about 325 and check the temp from time to time. Pull out and let it rest for at least 20 minutes once the temp is around 130 internal. This keeps juices in the meat. We like medium rare, so this works for us. I have made it this way for Christmas dinner for several years. There are some good dry rub recipes out there. I prefer a salt, pepper, and rosemary blend. A couple of good websites out there that discuss the mechanism of why this works. Good luck

The traditional media has lost virtually all of their power.
Inevitable due to the democratization of streaming and on-demand expectations. I was wondering how long even Rush Limbaugh would have been viable because the short segment style of shows are being replaced by long format vblogs. Nobody is paying attention to their lies any longer. If "LIV" has any meaning, no one but political wonks were even listening to their lies. People tend to listen to lies passed on through various influencers, from their own friends to streamed media. And social media is increasingly moving our way. The hipsters will be appalled, but a brief boil is necessary or it won’t drop all the grounds. It it’s done right there won’t be any grounds in your cup at all. Misunderstood method for sure. I didn't move from Michigan to Florida to get snowed upon. But the weathercasters say I'm going to get snowed upon next week.
Posted by: one hour sober Last winter I had roughly 90 inches of cumulative snowfall by Christmas. I thought were in for an epic winter. Rained for a week after Christmas and didn't snow again until early February. We ended up with about 120 inches of cumulative snowfall. A memorable winter but not epic. This year, it has snowed about a dozen times, an inch or two at a time. I've been on my plow once for a 10 minute clean up of a slushy mess at top of my driveway. Normal plow is about a 2 hour job. I'm still waiting for winter to show up. Posted by: Sock Monkey * Justice for Ashli at January 18, 2025 09:30 AM (feC/a) 181

More and more people are jumping off the left's sinking ship and coming our way as they see the left's policies aren't just failing but dangerous.
Pareto Principle 80% rely on the 20% doing their job. When regulation stifles some innovators and Producers and the adage "Incompetence drives out Competence" which was attached to a JATO pack under DEI/ESG policies discourages and neuters the rest, people tend to notice that the 20% they relied on isn't there.† With Trump and DOGE, whether they actually accomplish anything or not, the threat to DEI/ESG and the Regulatory/Lawfare State is encouraging the hidden 20% to come out of hiding. The fight is for the 20% to be in a position to benefit the 80% † e.g. LA Fires, Afghanistan withdrawal, FEMA, etc. Posted by: Unknown Drip Under Pressure at January 18, 2025 09:33 AM (rHxhM) 188

School has been cancelled in the county for the past week due to icy roads. A number of our churches have opened up to provide free day care/meals for the kids as the adults have to go to work. We are having a ball with the little guys. Posted by: Tonypete at January 18, 2025 09:22 AM (WXNFJ) I think about this a lot, as there are so many out there in the world who are disconnected. Loneliness and despair are killers. Our cities are corrupt, not just in the political sense, but in that they've developed into these places where people live in proximity, but don't have anything to do with each other. It's not right. Humans are meant to be social animals, and one doesn't have to go too far into the past to see that we were. I think communism might be a big reason we're so much less so now, and not in the usual way. Posted by: BurtTC at January 18, 2025 09:52 AM (iBy62) 225

Collin Rugg @CollinRugg NEW: During a one-on-one meeting, Speaker Johnson asked President Biden why he paused LNG exports to Europe, says Biden was completely unaware he had done so. The United States hasn't had a president for four years. Johnson says Biden was completely unaware of an executive order he signed. The comments from Johnson came during an interview with @bariweiss. Years ago I picked up what was billed as a "Czech army tent heater" and turned out to be a kerosene/diesel wick lamp that had a perforated metal cover with a bail instead of a glass chimney. It does have a pretty clever ceramic flame spreader around the wick. It is one of those things that you could use for cooking in a pinch, or place under your crank-case in mid winter to make sure your vehicle will start up quickly.
I have picked up a number of odd cooking stoves, from the Butterfly alcohol stoves, to those Primus type brass pressure stoves. Propane is more convenient, though I am having trouble finding a stove that is appropriate for a Moka pot coffee maker. Posted by: Kindltot at January 18, 2025 10:59 AM (D7oie) 362

The Catholic Church hierarchy is obsessed with creating a joint clerical/lay leadership so they can vote gay marriage and divorce, and female ordination and basically turn the Church Protestant, but at the same time, they're threatening to excommunicate people for support AfD. There is a dissident branch of bishops who think this is all insane, but they are a minority. Ignoramus I just finished Landman. Excellent show!

My browsing history is not even full of pictures studly hunky men in speedos.
A well-girded loin's the noblest work of God. With your (well-documented!) history of posting beautiful, modest ladies who are probably the nicest most honest folks you'd ever meet, why if someone found handsome, modest, godly studly-hunks in your browser, I don't believe a word would be said. "Speedo" probably has an Old Testament translation. Posted by: Way,Way Downriver at January 18, 2025 11:45 AM (zdLoL) 415

You are funny. Thanks. Those type of men- and I do appreciate handsome men ( I think Pete Hegseth is nice looking) are probably the age to be my son, Well, not Peter Hegseth. He's not young enough to be my son.😉 Posted by: FenelonSpoke at January 18, 2025 11:53 AM (DtHcJ) 416
Actually, Pete Hegseth could be my son ( boy do I feel old) if I had gotten married and had a son years before I did.

I live in the Socialist Republic of Washington. It will be spent on transition surgeries for state inmates and housing our new arrivals.
Posted by: Sock Monkey * Justice for Ashli at January 18, 2025 10:45 AM (feC/a) Well, you can just pop over the line to B.C. and buy what you need at Canadian Tire....oh, wait. Idaho is your best bet. Lots of little secondary roads between WA and ID. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at January 18, 2025 12:01 PM (8zz6B) 418
You can do the paperwork to have you de-registered, but the Catholic Church (supposedly) will not offer sacraments to unregistered people. Seems like Simony to me, but Germmany has a history of state/church fusion. The old Cuius Regio, Euis Religio.
Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at January 18, 2025 11:07 AM (ZOv7s) Heh. Reminds me, years ago, when I lived in Calgary, a few blocks away was a Chinese Evangelical Free Church. My friend Barry would say, on passing by, "Well, you know they wouldn't go to one you had to pay for." Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at January 18, 2025 12:08 PM (8zz6B) 419
