Good morning boys and girls and everything in between. So while California burns the Frozen Tundra has some frozen weather - finally!

Before we enter the Prayer Revival just a few housekeeping matters to go over. (Rulz for those of you in Chetek.)

1) This is an open thread. Feel free to lurk, opine and/or bloviate.
2) Be kind. Be nice. And no flying drop kicks from the couch.

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List
Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.
Prayer Requests:
12/14 – Jewells is still in a lot of pain. The drain was put in on 12/11. She was supposed to receive a sedative and medication for pain while they worked, and she received nothing. She felt everything and it hurt like hell. It also hurts when it is being drained, and that is daily for the first week. She has a great home health nurse coming in now, and she has shown Jewell’s daughter and husband how to do it.
1/4 Update – Jewells is still in a lot of pain. The doctor has prescribed morphine. She has an orthopedic appointment soon, where hopefully one problem will be resolved.
12/18 – neverenoughcaffeine could use prayers. She has 3 minor medical issues. One she can ignore, but the other 2 are causing loads of pain and discomfort. They may be related. She is praying that her ortho doctor has an answer for both.
12/21 Update – She did receive two shots of cortisone in her foot, which helped with her back issues. Her foot feels better and hopefully will continue to improve. Therapy for her back is also helping.
12/21 – Fenelon Spoke asked for prayers for E, the nurse and caregiver for her church’s retired organist. “E” has been in and out of the hospital for 2 weeks with a bleeding ulcer. Prayers are also needed for Fen’s son’s supervisor who has chest pain and a fever and has missed a couple of days of work. Fen also offered a prayer of thanks to God for FenSon completing his second week of work at a new job, which was a bit challenging since his boss was out ill.
12/21 – Tonypete requested prayers for his buddy Bev. She is normally happy, but something is going on. Lately she is very sad and depressed. One of Bev’s kids has been a cause for concern in the past, so there may be trouble there.
12/21 – J.J. Sefton sends his gratitude for all of the love, prayers, and support this past year. Last Monday, his latest MRI was also negative (that’s three in a row!) and his oncologist is very pleased with his progress.
12/21 – AZ deplorable moron asked for prayers. His first cataract surgery went well and his right eye’s vision is much improved. The left eye, not so much. Infection set in and he’s had steroids and antibiotics constantly for 3 weeks. They don’t know how much vision he will have when it has healed.
12/28 Update – Annie’s Stew apologizes for guessing incorrectly the sex of AZ deplorable moron. His pronouns have been corrected above.
1/4 Update – He has 20/200 vision in his left eye now. He can see the world, but it is dimmer than what the right eye sees. There is also a big dark spot where he focuses.
12/21 – Brave Sir Robin requested prayers for his co-worker, Matt and his wife Jamie and 2 kids. Matt, about 42 years old, was diagnosed with glioblastoma. This same cancer to Brave Sir Robin’s mother. Unless treatment has changed radically, Matt does not have a happy ending. Please pray for wisdom and skill from his doctors, and peace and serenity for Matt and his family.
12/21 – Sugar Plum Fairy requested prayers for her brother-in-law, M, who found out yesterday that he has leukemia. He is only in his mid-thirties and his daughter is 2. He is heading to the hospital for 6 weeks on 12/23 for testing. Please pray for strength for his wife and mother who are in shock and understandably devastated. And for good doctors and total healing if it is God’s will.
12/25 – Molly k asked for prayers. This will be a different Christmas. Mr. k passed away on 12/22. Luckily the girls and grandkids were home. He passed at home, holding their oldest granddaughter’s hand. Christmas will be fun for the “littles” but tough for the rest. 12/26 is the funeral and she is dreading it, but will do her best to make it the best day possible and be thankful for the real meaning of Christmas.
12/25 – vmom deport deport deport asked for prayers for her brother-in-law in the hospital, and for her sister, who is looking out for him.
12/26 – Joe Kidd requested a prayer of thanksgiving for God’s quiet resolution to a problem his younger (and last remaining) sibling was having with a roommate. She suffers from bipolar disorder and tends to make poor decisions when difficulties arise. Communication with her on Christmas indicated that God’s wisdom prevailed on all concerned. Praise Him!
12/28 – LF asked for prayers for success for her daughter’s open heart surgery, to repair an aortic weakness. The surgery should happen around Valentine’s Day. Her daughter is only 48.
12/28 – JW suggested the following Jewish Prayer of Faith for Healing:
JEWISH PRAYER OF FAITH FOR HEALING
Merciful God, we pray to you for the recovery of all who are facing illness or pain.
We join our prayers with all who love them. Grant them renewed strength and courage. Strengthen in them the healing powers You have placed within us all. Guide the hearts and hands of those who are entrusted with their care.
Help all who share the anxiety of this illness to be brave and hopeful.
Inspire us with courage and faith. Grant your blessings to all who call upon you.
Oh God, who blessed our ancestors, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; Sarah, Rebekkah, Leah, and Rachel, send your blessings to all who are ill.
Have mercy on them, and graciously restore their health and strength.
Grant them a complete recovery.
May healing come speedily.
May the knowledge of Your love and ours give added hope to them and to their dear ones.
May they find even greater strength because our prayers are linked to theirs.
When pain and fatigue are our companions, let there be room in our hearts for strength.
When days and nights are filled with darkness, let the light of courage find its place.
Help me to endure the suffering and dissolve the fear; renew within me the calm spirit of trust and peace.

12/28 – Farmer sent thanks for the prayers for healing for his dad and for Jules. Dad is out of the hospital and is recovering. Jules’ recovery is remarkable. After surgery for a perforated ulcer, which caused severe septic shock, she was close to death. After 49 days in the hospital, she went to rehab on 12/27!
1/4 – Smell the Glove asked for prayers for an 80 year old aunt. The aunt was diagnosed with colon cancer and started treatment this week.
1/4 – vmom deport deport deport asked for prayers for her eldest sister. It looks like her illness is cancer.
1/12 Update – Please keep praying. Her sister has stage 4 breast cancer.
1/4 – Black Orchid requested prayers for a good friend whose brother is critically ill with possible brain cancer. Black Orchid also offered a prayer of thanksgiving for quick healing of a painful wrist.
1/4 – Chris in California asked for prayers for a son who is having sensory/smell/taste issues that are troubling. They ask for healing for his body, and that he would receive the Lord’s guidance in his mind and heart.
1/4 – San Franpsycho asked for prayers for the repose of Rose, the mother of one of his kindergarten buddies.
1/4 – Tonypete requested prayers for his congregation. They are mostly elderly, and there are a raft of viruses, colds, etc. going around now.
1/4 – Eromero thanked God for his mysterious ways. His friend broke his hip, and 2 days later they removed his gall bladder, which was verging on gangrene. May God also perform wonders on the loved ones on this list, and may He also free America from DC as He freed the Hebrew children from their Egyptian oppressors.
1/10 – Village Idiot’s Apprentice asked for prayers for his cousin, who was having triple bypass surgery.
1/11 Update – The surgery went “superbly”. Thank you all for your prayers.
1/11 – Our Country is Screwed asked for prayers. He is having a double mastectomy. (He notes: Yes, male breast cancer is a thing!) He is fortunate that it appears to be localized. Another request is for an aunt (age 70+) who is facing lung cancer and having part of her lung removed. She is scared and needs prayers too.
1/15 – Sponge gave an update on his wife. She met with the radiation oncologist, and he used the word “cure”, so she is pretty happy about that. She has a couple more chemo treatments to go.
1/16 – Mental Block asked for prayers of thanksgiving upon completing all 28 radiation treatments for prostate cancer with minimal, temporary side effects. He also asks for continued prayers for healing as his hormone therapy continues for an additional four months.
1/17-Hrothgar was hospitalized in need of a cardio-catherization. He has his son and daughter at his side.

12 Dang MH 7 people, I'm lucky to make it to 5. Had my 1/2 cup of coffee, the start of weening off of it for 3 months. Hoping the doc lets me start up again April.

Good morning, Hordians. Some good news. The pain I've had in my shoulder has at long last been correctly diagnosed. Now that I know what it is, there are things I can do myself to keep the discomfort at bay. I'm also going in for physical therapy to improve the situation further.

Before, I could not work at a computer for more than a couple of minutes. Now I can take on professional assignments again.

Our venerable Keurig failed last week, and I was able get another one a couple of days later. This is the mini, which takes up less counter space. One thing I like better is that it makes one cup at a time, and runs on exactly what you put into it, so you can have the perfect size cup every time.

I think that was Sean Duffy, former Congressman from Wisconsin. He has 9 children and I think they all came to the hearing. His little girl with Downs went around hugging everyone.

Ours crapped out this week too! I took it apart after I'd done a bit of research on it. Most common issue was a thermostat that needed to be reset. No bueno with that.

But... I noticed a broken wire. A tiny wire. Like 5 hair strands thick. It was for the brew controls and with a bit of work I re-routed it so I could splice the two ends together.

Design flaw. The lid that you open (repeatedly) to insert a K-cup and then close, then open again to remove, then close again pinched that wire so many times that it just broke.

But we bought a new one anyway. 🥴

60 I would like to ask prayers for Chris. Chris is the new husband of a friend of mine . They've been married since the summer and are both nice conservatives and Catholics. He is the hospital in NJ with a high fever and urinary issues which he's had for a long time

He also mans the both at the John Birch society at the local conservative picnic. I was impressed that someone who's younger- maybe late 30's- knew who John Birch and what he stood for was and that Birch and not a racist bogeyman.

I don't have a backup. I use both my coffee pots. The Mr. Coffee goes off every morning at 430. While we are drinking that the old percolator pot goes on the cook stove for pot number 2. I actually prefer that coffee.

French press, Italian stovetop Bialetti, Japanese pour over, Turkish stovetop, second Bialetti (different size..I think), German drip coffee machine, Nespresso machine, and probably another one or two I can't remember.

116 I need to give praise to our Lord. A year + ago, we were praying for my BIL. He woke up with no feeling in his legs, unable to walk. Doctors discovered a large cancerous growth on his spine. Prognosis was not good for either the cancer or his mobility. Nine hour surgery, chemo and therapy over the last year. In August , while still using a walker, he started riding his trike again. In September, they started taking short trips in their RV. In November, they took it to Arizona for a two month stay. He is walking with the use of a cane. Last week, he was pronounced cancer free. Yesterday he drove his 1976 Jeep CJ5 project for the first time. He is a tough, resilient guy but he gives all the credit to our Lord. I had told him we were praying for him on the thread so he wanted to say thanks.

125 f'd, I do my prime rib for the 20 minutes initial at 450 or 500, then turn the temp down to about 325 and check the temp from time to time. Pull out and let it rest for at least 20 minutes once the temp is around 130 internal. This keeps juices in the meat. We like medium rare, so this works for us. I have made it this way for Christmas dinner for several years. There are some good dry rub recipes out there. I prefer a salt, pepper, and rosemary blend. A couple of good websites out there that discuss the mechanism of why this works. Good luck

Black and Decker, in the box, used, in the garage that was replaced by the Faberware 10 yrs. ago. I aluminum percolator that was my grandfather's and a tall blue enamel like you see in the western movies. Also storage water and Sterno close by. Unless I'm nuked away there will be hot coffee.

I appreciated the pushing to perform my exercises properly. Recovery is the goal and I plan to totally recover. I always thank the PT folk for their good work.

Good morning horde! Prayers up for all in need.
My niece's husband recently had a mini heart attack. He's around 32 or 33 years old. He works for his dad doing small construction and the dad works this kid like a dog while letting his other sons (who allegedly work for him also) skate on anything. They built my porch last year and T was the one who did most of the work. He had some troubles with law enforcement for a while but he quit drinking and is working his ass off to take care of his wife and daughter. He's got an appointment with a cardiologist and having a stress test soon. If anyone could toss up a prayer for the kid, it would be appreciated.

I had a boss who was a coffee addict. I'd make a full pot, one cup for me, the rest for him. Sometimes he needed a second one to get through the day. Traditional pot, died after about a year of heavy use (the building water wasn't great, either). A departed co-worker left a Keurig, and I use that at work but use distilled water.

I am no longer in my entrepreneur mode but I always thought that an old folks home/assisted living facility should be paired with a day care (for the wee ones). A win for all around.

School has been cancelled in the county for the past week due to icy roads. A number of our churches have opened up to provide free day care/meals for the kids as the adults have to go to work. We are having a ball with the little guys.

Last winter I had roughly 90 inches of cumulative snowfall by Christmas. I thought were in for an epic winter. Rained for a week after Christmas and didn't snow again until early February. We ended up with about 120 inches of cumulative snowfall. A memorable winter but not epic. This year, it has snowed about a dozen times, an inch or two at a time. I've been on my plow once for a 10 minute clean up of a slushy mess at top of my driveway. Normal plow is about a 2 hour job. I'm still waiting for winter to show up.

Also - there are lots of aids and helps to get it done - Youtube, Ascension or Hallo apps, etc. Find one that fits you and pray away!

School has been cancelled in the county for the past week due to icy roads. A number of our churches have opened up to provide free day care/meals for the kids as the adults have to go to work. We are having a ball with the little guys.

I think about this a lot, as there are so many out there in the world who are disconnected. Loneliness and despair are killers. Our cities are corrupt, not just in the political sense, but in that they've developed into these places where people live in proximity, but don't have anything to do with each other.

It's not right.

Humans are meant to be social animals, and one doesn't have to go too far into the past to see that we were. I think communism might be a big reason we're so much less so now, and not in the usual way.

I know of a facility like that in Michigan's Thumb. It's a community center with the senior and daycare right next to each other so that they can open the doors and let the little tykes run wild. Seems to work well for them.

Having the grandkids live with us is trying (I'm not 29 anymore!) but a lot of fun. It's like all the fun of being a parent with half the stress. I love they way they celebrate treats. We should all do that.

my "firewood cutting kit" is a .50 Cal ammo box with 2 one pound propane cylinders, a Gem-light propane lamp, and a single burner which all fit in like it was all designed as a unit. I keep a gym bag with a pan, coffee grounds, instant coffee, cocoa and consumables, and a Swedish mess kit with an alcohol burner because it is good to have a spare heat source.

They built a mock village at Grayling for them to use as a target area and they even had a church with a steeple, which always got shot off despite strict orders not to do so. Eventually they stopped putting it back up.

I'm going to predict a sharp fall in ammo and firearm prices once Trump is in office. Normally we're all about the buying, but I think we're heading into a strong bear market. The economy as a whole isn't great, so people will hold off on purchases, and the secondary market should take a solid hit because of that. I've been watching various auctions since December and stuff is just not moving.

Ammo is even worse. Free advice, worth every penny but we saw this with Trump in 2017 as well.

It usually goes fine but one Saturday the fire alarm went off and fire men arrived. Things were ok, thank God. Then I knocked over the communion cups. 361 Years ago I picked up what was billed as a "Czech army tent heater" and turned out to be a kerosene/diesel wick lamp that had a perforated metal cover with a bail instead of a glass chimney. It does have a pretty clever ceramic flame spreader around the wick. It is one of those things that you could use for cooking in a pinch, or place under your crank-case in mid winter to make sure your vehicle will start up quickly.

I have picked up a number of odd cooking stoves, from the Butterfly alcohol stoves, to those Primus type brass pressure stoves. Propane is more convenient, though I am having trouble finding a stove that is appropriate for a Moka pot coffee maker.

The Catholic Church hierarchy is obsessed with creating a joint clerical/lay leadership so they can vote gay marriage and divorce, and female ordination and basically turn the Church Protestant, but at the same time, they're threatening to excommunicate people for support AfD.

There is a dissident branch of bishops who think this is all insane, but they are a minority.

Meanwhile, Catholics are de-registering in record numbers, which (because Germany is odd) bars them from sacraments but also exempts them from state-imposed tithes on behalf of the Church. I guess Simony is in fashion there as well.

Yes. In Germany you are registered with your respective faith, and the Evangelical (Lutheran) Church and the Catholic Church receive tithes taken from your paycheck.

You can do the paperwork to have you de-registered, but the Catholic Church (supposedly) will not offer sacraments to unregistered people. Seems like Simony to me, but Germmany has a history of state/church fusion. The old Cuius Regio, Euis Religio.

385 Well, it looks like I'm going to be moving. I've consulted with a realtor and we're going to be listing the house for sale and I've been looking at properties close to where I work. There's an amazing house that's within my budget in Santa Fe, Texas. Not Brazoria County (I was kind of hoping I could be neighbors with Hadrian) but Galveston County. If that one doesn't pan out there are a couple of really good houses in Alvin.

Speaking of Galveston. Has anyone heard from Jim (Sunk New Dawn) recently?

We have 30 years of evidence proving that it doesn't work, so the obvious conclusion is that the stated goal is not the real goal. The real goal is to destroy the Catholic Church in Germany.
