Ask Not For Whom The ONT Tolls

Howdy Horde! Welcome to Thursday night!

Headline Of The Week

How naked World War II sailors ended up riding Mongolian ponies in the Gobi Desert to shoot bazookas at the Japanese

SACO’s operation in India grew as needs in China evolved.
It proved easier to manufacture some materials in India than ship them from the United States. A new plant in Jorhat produced liquid oxygen, converting some into gas for flights over the Hump. Most of it was transported in liquid form to conversion stations near where it would be used to avoid airlifting the heavy canisters.
A Navy factory made batteries for the hundreds of radios scattered across China. With a shelf life of nine months, batteries made in the United States were nearly spent by the time they finished a six-month journey to China, but they arrived only a few weeks old when made in India.
At Camp Knox in Calcutta, new arrivals got their first taste of the exotic, riding around in rickshaws while preparing for duty in China. They exchanged their crisp Navy whites for Army khakis without insignia or rank.

Interesting stuff about the “Rice Paddy Navy”

Another One Bites The Dust

MSNBC president exiting network amid ratings tailspin

Rashida Jones, the president of MSNBC, has announced she is stepping away from the network after four years at the helm.
On Tuesday, Jones sent a letter to staff, announcing her departure and thanking them for their work.
"The people here at MSNBC are what make this place truly special, and our shared mission is what has always united us: to keep our viewers, readers, and listeners well-informed, provide critical context, ask tough questions, speak hard truths, say the quiet part out loud, and always adhere to the facts, without fear or favor," Jones wrote, according to the Daily Beast.
Jones' resignation as president is effective immediately, though she will remain on board in an advisory capacity until March.

Not tired of all the winning yet.

Set Them Free

Pardon Every Single J6 Political Prisoner – Every Single One

It is a feature and not a bug that the Democrats and the regime media lackeys will be outraged by this righteous act of justice. They need to be angry and shown that they cannot win. This is an important object lesson. The J6 vendetta was a disgraceful crime far exceeding the fake crimes in American history – like “McCarthyism” – the leftists always whine about. But there will also be Republicans who are going to cry about this, and they’re wrong to do so. They’re wrong to do so because the vital issue is not whether some individual went too far on January 6. This is about a systemic persecution of American citizens not resulting from an individualized consideration of their exact circumstances but simply because they were affiliated with the out-of-power party. You cannot tolerate this in a free society. If you do tolerate this, it stops being a free society.

And to tolerate this because of some lame cliche like “respecting the rule of law” is ridiculous – these prosecutions themselves are a direct assault upon the rule of law. To give these charges and convictions any credibility at all, whether the person is accused of trespassing or punching a flatfoot, is to accept a two-tier justice system. That’s why the notion that people convicted of “violence” should not be pardoned is so misguided. To accept the validity of any J6 judicial proceeding is to accept that these biased, tyrannical prosecutions could ever generate a just result. A two-tier justice system targeting our people in a biased venue in front of biased judges via misapplied statutes can never deliver a just result. None of the proceedings undertaken against these J6 defendants could ever be just. Every single prosecution was and is absolutely corrupt. Every single trial verdict was fatally tainted. Every guilty plea was presumptively coerced.

Every word.

Wildfires

Bone-Chilling “Conspiracy Theory” Emerges as California Burns

As devastating wildfires once again consume California’s landscapes, a growing number of skeptics are pointing to an eerie coincidence: the fires are burning in regions earmarked for major redevelopment under the controversial “SmartLA 2028” initiative.
Critics allege that these fires might not be mere acts of nature but intentional acts to fast-track a dystopian agenda where artificial intelligence governs daily life.

One user wrote on X, “LA fires clear the way for SmartLA 2028 and 2028 LA Olympics. The SmartLA 2028 blueprint contains a map of the Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica, and Hollywood regions, all seriously fire-damaged, showing their special importance in the coming city restructuring.”
The “SmartLA 2028” strategy, outlined in a document published by the City of Los Angeles, envisions a highly digital and connected city by 2028 under the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda.
From 5G infrastructure to AI-assisted public safety measures, SmartLA 2028 promises sweeping transformations, including ultra-efficient transportation, digital governance, and AI-driven decision-making systems.

At this point, I'll believe anything.

Neil Gaiman Is Going Down

There Is No Safe Word

Gaiman led Pavlovich down a stone path into the garden to an old-fashioned tub with a roll top and walked away. She got undressed and sank into the bath, looking up at the furry magenta blossoms of the pohutukawa tree overhead. A few minutes later, she was surprised to hear Gaiman’s footsteps on the stones in the dark. She tried to cover her breasts with her arms. When he arrived at the bath, she saw that he was naked. Gaiman put out a couple of citronella candles, lit them, and got into the bath. He stretched out, facing her, and, for a few minutes, made small talk. He bitched about Palmer’s schedule. He talked about his kid’s school. Then he told her to stretch her legs out and “get comfortable.”
“I said ‘no.’ I said, ‘I’m not confident with my body,’” Pavlovich recalls. “He said, ‘It’s okay — it’s only me. Just relax. Just have a chat.’” She didn’t move. He looked at her again and said, “Don’t ruin the moment.” She did as instructed, and he began to stroke her feet. At that point, she recalls, she felt “a subtle terror.”
Gaiman asked her to sit on his lap. Pavlovich stammered out a few sentences: She was gay, she’d never had sex, she had been sexually abused by a 45-year-old man when she was 15. Gaiman continued to press. “The next part is really amorphous,” Pavlovich tells me. “But I can tell you that he put his fingers straight into my ass and tried to put his penis in my ass. And I said, ‘No, no.’ Then he tried to rub his penis between my breasts, and I said ‘no’ as well. Then he asked if he could come on my face, and I said ‘no’ but he did anyway. He said, ‘Call me ‘master,’ and I’ll come.’ He said, ‘Be a good girl. You’re a good little girl.’”

If these allegations are true, he's a sick fuck, and a rapist. Which is a damn shame because I've loved just about everything he's ever written from Sandman through his novels.

Second Order Effects

This post is worth a read, and the conclusion is...interesting

Elon Musk thinks Mars should have a government. He thinks it should be a direct democracy.
This, right here, is why it shouldn't.
Because of this paragraph of text:
Scarcity occurs when people want more of something than there is. When that happens, the price goes up. When the price goes up, there is more money to be made selling that thing. People who want money start figuring out ways to make more of that thing. So they can sell it. Then there is more of that to go around, and the price comes down.
Did you understand all that?
Then congratulations, you understood the concept of second and higher order effects. Your IQ is at least one standard deviation above the mean.
Also, you are outnumbered five to one at the voting booth
. By people who think you can pass a law to make things free.
Lotsa luck, smart guy.

Food for thought. I used to think “of course everyone should have a vote”. I don't think that anymore, but I'll be bumped if I can figure a way back from a world where everyone has the vote, and everyone thinks it's their right.

Muslim Rape Gangs

Another good post about the situation in Britain

This is the Muslim culture in Britain. I have multiple sources for these attitudes. A follower writes. "A Muslim friend of Muslim was explaining to me that basically white girls are seen as just something to f**k, like prostitutes. Mainly married men & fathers can carry on being good dad's & fathers & just rape white girls like a release. "They don't see it as rape, like they don't see shagging a goat as rape. "She said "like some white blokes watch porn, they go & 'shag' a white girl". She's said it so flippantly. To them, "rape" would be to force yourself on a "pure" Muslim woman. To them, this isn't "rape" - these girls are nothing. Just shit on their shoes. They barely see them as human.

Another huge mistake the west has made is the stupid idea that all cultures are equal. They are not.

Tonight's ONT has been brought to you by holding a grudge:

20 Henry Symeonis was among the men who, on 22 May 1242, were fined £80 and ordered to leave Oxford by King Henry III for murdering an Oxford scholar.[2][1] They were allowed to stay in Northampton or further north, but were not to approach Oxford until the king returned from Aquitaine.[2] The king returned to England later that year and Henry Symeonis was apparently in Oxford in early 1243.[2] He sold an island to the king, who in 1245 granted it to the Order of Friars Minor.[2]

In 1264 many Oxford scholars left Oxford, and King Henry suspended the university on 12 March 1264. On 25 March 1264 King Henry issued a letters patent declaring that Henry Symeonis had been forgiven and ordering the university to let him to live in Oxford in peace so long as he should show good behavior.[1] Oxford archivists differ in their interpretations of this episode. Reginald Lane Poole argues that the exodus of the scholars from Oxford was in protest over the return of Henry Symeonis.[2] Alice Millea notes that Henry Symeonis had returned years earlier. According to Millea, King Henry suspended the university because Oxford had become the center of the royal military operations during the Second Baro

Universal suffrage is only a thing because the Constitution was amended to allow it, and can be repaired just as prohibition was.

Also, the Constitution-based federal government is our second attempt at a government, which by definition replaced the first, and thus similarly can be replaced if the will and/or need to do so can be mustered.

49 Bought some guanciale today at an Italian specialty store. It is the pork in spaghetti carbonera. Salt-cured, from the jowl of the pig, its rind all heavily peppered.

Got the two cheeses two, pecorino and the other one.

Ms G says "that sounds like a stupid recipe, bacon and eggs spaghetti."

I watched a few recipe vids on YouTube and think I have it down. I love how in the Italian kitchens they use those big huge tweezers to stir the pasta and then at plating time, spin it into big spaghetti donuts, stacking them like three high, large medium small on top, dress the top with the guanciale chunks and a big spoonful of the grated cheese.

Bought a bottle of Sardinian cannonau to go with it. Dry red made from the grenache grape.

50 Most of the people who don't understand that economic statement are misled because most of what they see is the actions of producers acting together as a form of cartelism, which is where producers combine together to fix the production of items to control the access, and so the price of them.
Cartelism, or monopolistic action, does not survive well, except when there is governmental support in the form of regulations. The US has a tradition of creating regulations "in the name of anti-monopolistic practices" that actually are production or price controls that freeze competitors out of a mature market.

74 I ran across a post on Linkedin from girl boss Stacey Champagne, CEO and founder of Hacker in Heels;

I had multiple clear-cut career accomplishments in 2024. My husband? Zero. No certifications. No college courses completed. No documentary features. No awards, she wrote.

Stacey went on to describe a conversation with her husband over dinner. ‘How do you do that?’ I asked from across the dining table. ‘How are you able to go through a whole year without doing any of these sorts of things and be OK?’ He didn’t have a response, she shared, noting that his silence gave her much to reflect on.

Now the funny thing about this I know the sorts of awards people like Stacey Champagne give each other. And they are all bullshit. Now...could it be true that he's a lazy SOB, at least compared to her? Sure. But taking this crap to LinkedIn?!?

And also, imagine a husband reaming his wife like this in a public form. He'd at least get banned from linkedin and in Europe likely prosecuted...

Orlok thinks her role would be the ambiguous one, whatever that might be in the film. She reminds me of Alice Krige, who was very mean to Data in Star Trek - First Contact. One should never be mean to Data, just as no one should be mean to Willow Rosenberg. Yes, Orlok realizes the irony in a Nosferatu being a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but hey, a quality production is a quality production.

My sister has a large book full of SciFi short stories. One of them is similar to this. It was creepy. Basically hotel owner in some warm, nice, tropical climate, greets his odd but nice guests. Basically, guests are from the very far future and come back to the past to use human suffering as music entertainment. A meteor would land nearby setting off a worldwide plague and these future people were there to record it all. A great symphony of human suffering. Haven't read it in a while, so going on my meh memory.

The people who did Trump dirty knew exactly what they would be guilty of. Chances are, they will use Biden's autopen to get preemptive pardons anyway, so the chances of any of them seeing the gibbet are going to be low.

That doesn't matter, however. Simply running the investigations and showing the public the results will rally the LIVs into pressing for reform (I hope). If the political price paid means that the Dems are out of power for the next ten years, the reforms that come from that will make this all worthwhile.

218 Authority is derived through the election by the people of public officials best fitted to represent them. Attitude toward law is the administration of justice in accord with fixed principles and established evidence, with a strict regard to consequences. A greater number of citizens and extent of territory may be brought within its compass. Avoids the dangerous extreme of either tyranny or mobocracy. Results in statesmanship, liberty, reason, justice, contentment, and progress. Is the "standard form" of government throughout the world. A republic is a form of government under a constitution which provides for the election of

(1) an executive and (2) a legislative body, who working together in a representative capacity, have all the power of appointment, all power of legislation, all power to raise revenue and appropriate expenditures, and are required to create (3) a judiciary to pass upon the justice and legality of their government acts and to recognize (4) certain inherent individual rights.

Democracy:

A government of the masses. Authority derived through mass meeting or any other form of "direct" expression. Results in mobocracy. Attitude toward property is communistic--negating property rights. Attitude toward law is that the will of the majority shall regulate, whether is be based upon deliberation or governed by passion, prejudice, and impulse, without restraint or regard to consequences. I think most of the official stuff is still on server somewhere, what can be destroyed without a trace is either on paper files that were never submitted to the archives or converted to digital, or were not technically required to be retained.
Government records retention is an odd area, some records must be destroyed, some must be retained, and some no one cares about. There is generally a densely written procedure directive written about it, and then there is the verbal gloss that everyone thinks is the best interpretation of the rules, but no one will say for certain because legal counsel hasn't gotten back to anyone yet, but they might when they have the time to consider it and write up their conclusions.

I've spent my career building businesses. I'm nowhere near as smart or successful as Trump by orders of magnitude.

But I am smart enough to know he does stuff for a reason. Not always right and definitely not what I would always do but he is not just shooting from the hip. He does things for a purpose even if it is not always obvious. And he's usually right.

He's trying to take down the biggest and most well financed mafia that has ever existed, our military industrial complex, that has already tried to murder him twice. And he's winning when nobody else has even tried.

Nobody else is willing to sacrifice their life to give it a shot and risk everything for me. Least I can do is not second guess him and have his back.

It’s just bs lawfare, designed to prevent any resource utilization whatsoever. I love Wilderness and NF and BLM (the real BLM) and the rest if it. But I find them largely elitist, hypocritical in too many cases. Watermelon - green on the outside, red on the inside. They treat the whole place as if it’s a Museum. The West is huge with wide open spaces farther than most csn fathom. There is plenty for recreation and industry, hiking, biking, 4WD, horse back riding, rafting, and yes mining, logging, and the rest of it.

What makes you think they haven’t already sold it or pledged it as Collateral? That’s been my working theory for years. First, they want to lock it down so Americans can’t benefit from it. Seems only a skip and a hop to sell it. Or pledge it or some jiggery-pokery.

My favorites is “They are Public Lands!” Well sure. What if the Public wants to drill baby drill? Log it? Mine rare Erf minerals in the Csbinets, or California? Oh, that’s not what they mean.

Every spot is “unique” (just like everywhere else) You’ll never hear a greenie say “Oh yeah, that’ place is nothing special, go ahead and mine/log/drill all you want”.

Remember the Tellico dam and the “Snail Darter”? That was all bullshit. They use lawfare like this all the time. The Smelt and Sierra runoff is a similar deal. Newsome brags about removing dams. They don’t want desalination plants, they don’t wsnt reservoirs, and prevent removal of invasive exotics like Eucalyptus that is just flammable as hell. Really sad.

It was quickly squashed by all of the California Democrats. Their argument was that the "rugged beauty" of Death Valley should not be despoiled.

That's how my Botany Prof got into it. He was a young state forester in South Africa and noticed just that after fires, particularly conifers. So he went back and eventually got his PhD specializing in Senescence. If you look at 2 pine combs, one burnt and one not, the burnt one has opened up and exposed the seeds, some of which may now have cracked husks. Normally abscisic acid keeps the seed dormant. Once oxygen get in it destroys the abscisic acid and the seed germinates.
That's it in a nutshell.

349 Voting...

If we limited it to only land holders again, there would be libs selling title to 1 sq inch of somewhere...

I think the only way to rachet it back is to make it in person voting only, with ID, and one day (except the military overseas).

Those of us who care will endure the wait. The others, not so much.

It's interesting how life has adapted to fire. Read up fire-activated seeds. That's plants adapting to a fire prone environment.

354 You know, "landowner" and "land holder" are somewhat flexible legal terms. There must have been a loan agent or a real estate lawyer who let you think that signing on to a mortgage made you king of something, but there's a fascinating history of precedents there. Make it the basis for the franchise, and you might get some surprises. You don't always win a bar fight, even if you start it.

360 Morning, fellow insomaniacals. I'm up, and should go work out, but I've gone three times this week and don't *need* to. But while it will be mild tomorrow am, the cold front will be here Sunday, and I may not get a chance to exercise outdoors for almost a week.

A second cup of coffee will help me decide. Meanwhile, we steam into a three-day weekend, yes?
