13 John Varley around the turn of the 21st Century wrote a fine SF novel called Mammoth, but it was not about cloning an extinct animal. Rather, a female mammoth is brought into the early 21st via time travel, and she and her calf become big media stars. There's a lot more than that, though. Good stuff.

30 Yesterday during my work evaluation, it pretty much came down to "I'm leaving March 31." (Actually the 28th is the last Friday of March. I don't really want to drag myself in for one last Monday.) We talked about finding a replacement; I have to research the current hiring procedures, and I guess update my job description.

I spoke to my successor at my old job about applying, and she did not seem very excited until I told her it would mean more money. "And you have an offspring currently in college, too," I reminded her.

Anyway, about 71 days to go!

34 Mrs Clinton is running her suck again with her oft-repeated demands that Americans “who engage in misinformation” be arrested.

Who gets to decide that, one might wonder. We are now hectored routinely that men can get pregnant, (among many, many other absurdities, chiefly among those on the left, natch.

Most of us were raised with the idea that there are two sexes: male and female. We’re usually told that people with XY chromosomes are male and people with XX chromosomes are female. It’s a lot more complicated than that.

Really? I’m not a biologist, but I haven’t found it especially complicated. Boys have a penis, girls have a vagina. We got the briefing in Kindergarden most likey

Willowed from ONT:

Here in Israel, many of us are very despondent. I cannot speak for the majority because when you look how majorities often vote, that, too, makes one despondent.

Some things Trump said about consequence are vague in whom he was addressing.

Simply explain to me why Trump didn't tell Netanyahu to just say no to the current DC Regime and wait another week.

I can only hope that there's some 4D chess plays being made here with Netanyahu and Trump in cahoots with each other but there's zero proof to that.

The President [Reagan]. I know that you've heard the news already, that the rate of increase in inflation for September is in, and I no longer can say that inflation for 1982 so far is 5.1 [percent]. It is only 4.8....
Q. You're taking credit for it?
The President. What?
Q. You're taking credit for it?
The President. Well, I feel this: that since all of you seem to feel that I'm to blame for unemployment, then somebody must be responsible for the inflation drop.

I’m no expert on that, but a lot of people find out with cars, a “declared value” policy is not what people might think. “Agreed upon value” policy - with appraisal .

89 Biden's Dog: Okay, I've read that article.

I'm seeing the same historical pattern repeat. Attack by forces against Israel. Israel fights back and not only repels the attacking forces, but gains ground. Other countries not involved in the fight pressure Israel to make or take a deal to stop the fighting. Israel finally capitulates and agrees. Attacking forces celebrate openly (a sign that you've done something incredibly unwise) and then re-arm and recruit, and come back years later with an attack equal or even more terrible, and Israel either shows forbearance with very limited pushback, or it snaps and goes all in (and it's usually forbearance.)

After the snap/war point, we're right back to other countries pressuring Israel to stand down.

Too many times in my life now... too many times. And it doesn't seem to matter who's in charge of the countries directly or peripherally involved; same pattern.

I think I was being foolish to hold out hope that this time might be different.

97 When JFK was inaugurated it was 7 degrees at the Capitol so they moved indoors. This year it will be at least 17 degrees, so all is well, light snow the night before. So all is well as they are using heaters to keep our betters warm.
Remember the first inauguration and the MSM and others arguing about how many were watching on the mall. Will the MSM do that all over again.

212 Where the heck did the word "boob" come from, anyway? Tit, i can understand, that's just a variation on teat. But boob?

Is it some sort of bird connection? Tits are a kind of bird. Boobies are too. Maybe boobie pre-dates boob, and isn't just a diminutive derived form of it.

214 The cold is really bothering me this season, and we have another blast coming in this weekend. I was looking at the weather maps to see if a 250 mile trip could take me somewhere to escape and the answer is no. Fortunately I don't have to go anywhere until next Thursday (VA appointment) and it will be warming by then. Guess I'll just hang out for a few days, do some crock pot cooking and some Valu Rite drinkin'.

noun informal
a woman's breast.
ORIGIN
1930s (originally US): abbreviation of booby2, from dialect bubby, of uncertain origin; perhaps related to German dialect Bübbi ‘teat’.

Probably Arabic. I just recently learned that "bint" and "ghoul" are Arabic words, so it could be.

That's sending you to the related entry "booby2" (booby, second entry). (That "2" is superscript in the original.)

235 I am now de facto head of Seasonal, since the real head is going off on another Samaritan's Purse mission. It's just for four weeks and there is no heavy lifting, so it should be fine.

We are offering all Christmas for free today- just to get it out of the building. We stored the really good stuff, threw away a lot of sad decorations Tuesday- prep day- and packed the shelves with the remainder.

It'll be crazy- we've been closed for two weeks and people need their Thrift Store fix.

Y'all have a good one. Stay warm!

There are a few (VERY few) people who are born with XYY, XXY, and various other mixed-up sex chromosomes. Those poor bastards were dealt a poor hand at birth, and they have my sympathy.

However, 99.99% of "transgendered" individuals do NOT have one of these physical abnormalities. They are mentally ill, in much the same way that someone who believes he is Napoleon is mentally illl.

They also have my sympathy, but that sympathy does not extend to allowing them to enter facilities designed for the opposite sex. Nor does it extend to forcing me to pretend that their delusion is real.

There's another type of body dysmorphia folks might have heard of. It's called anorexia nervosa. The victims believe they are fat, even when they are skeletally thin. If untreated, it can even result in death. If we treated anorexia the way that quacks are "treating" "transgenderism", we'd have to pretend that they really are fat, give them fat reduction surgery, etc.
