The Classical Saturday Morning Coffee Break & Prayer Revival

*****

Good morning boys and girls and everything in between. As many of you know, yours truly is a giver. But then again, so is my esteemed colleague CBD. He was looking out for you coffee lovers. Or was he? You be the judge.

Morning coffee may protect the heart better than all-day coffee drinking
08 Jan 2025
Topic(s)reventive Cardiology
Sophia Antipolis, 8 January 2025: People who drink coffee in the morning have a lower risk of dying from cardiovascular disease and a lower overall mortality risk compared to all-day coffee drinkers, according to research published in the European Heart Journal [1] today (Wednesday).

The research was led by Dr Lu Qi, from Tulane University, New Orleans, USA. He said: “Research so far suggests that drinking coffee doesn’t raise the risk of cardiovascular disease, and it seems to lower the risk of some chronic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes. Given the effects that caffeine has on our bodies, we wanted to see if the time of day when you drink coffee has any impact on heart health.”

All I know is I'll drink it as often as I choose to.

Before we enter the Prayer Revival just a few housekeeping matters to take care of. (Rulz for those of you in Egg Harbor)

1) This is an open thread. Feel free to lurk, opine and/or bloviate away.
2) Be kind, be nice. And for crying out loud. No jumping from the kitchen table.
3) Go ahead and run with that sharp object if you must. Sympathy meters may or may not work.
4) Have a great weekend!

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

12/7 – Jordan61 requested prayers for his mother, who is going in for a CAT scan. Mom has been coughing and congested ever since she caught a cold in August. They have done antibiotics, etc. since, and a chest X-ray revealed something that caused the doctor to recommend an urgent CAT scan.
12/14 Update – The CAT scan showed she had pneumonia. They gave her antibiotics (fourth round) and are continuing with prednisone. If this doesn’t work she will have to see a lung specialist.

12/7 – rhennigantx asked for prayers for his friend Mike, who lost his best friend of 50 years.
1/4 Update – rhennigantx asked for prayers for the family and friends of his friend Tim, who passed away.

12/10 – Village Idiot’s Apprentice requested prayers for his father, who had a major stroke on 12/9, with not a good prognosis.
12/19 Update – His father was called home to be with God at about 1 am. It is so bittersweet to know that he is no longer here, but yet already at the side of God.

12/12 – Cybersmythe is supposed to have outpatient surgery on 12/16, but he got an abnormal ECG. He’s asking for prayers for the best of all possible outcomes.
12/21 Update – the surgery went well and there appear to be no complications. He appreciates the horde’s prayers and well wishes.

12/14 – Dash my Lace Wings asked for prayers. She has had chronic hip pain for years, but it has really started to affect her mobility. The MRI showed torn tendons. She is going to try platelet-rich-plasma injections to stimulate healing, in lieu of surgery. That will happen in January. Please pray that the tendons are healed and that she might have reduced pain for a few years, and not have to have more expensive surgery. Thank you. Also, if anyone has had this treatment, what is your opinion of it?

12/14 – About That Time asked for prayers for a daughter who is trying to give them a second grandchild. The daughter lost a baby in early October, and is pregnant again. Prayers for success are appreciated.

12/14 – Commissar Hrothgar would appreciate a prayer or two for Tim, an acquaintance from Southern Virginia. He apparently dodged a deer while driving, but went off the road into a ditch, jamming the driver’s side door, and then the car caught on fire. Amazingly, there was an ongoing house fire nearby, so the fire department EMTs saw the flames and were somehow able to extract him from the car. However, he suffered severe burns on his hands and legs. He is already receiving skin grafts on his hands and legs and will be in a bad way for some time.

12/14 – Sock Monkey asked for prayers for Publius. His cousin passed away suddenly on 12/13.

12/14 – Sharon (willow’s apprentice) could use some prayers. She had a CT scan of her hip, and may be headed toward a hip replacement. She is not worried about the surgery, which probably will improve her life, but is concerned about the loss of autonomy during recovery.

12/14 – Duke Lowell asked for prayers for his father, who was taken to the hospital 12/13 in respiratory distress. They are thinking it’s an infection, but he’s 87, and at that age anything can be serious.
12/21 Update – Thanks for the prayers; they definitely helped. Dad is recovering at home now. He had an upper respiratory infection and esophageal spasms, all treatable.

12/14 – Jewells is still in a lot of pain. The drain was put in on 12/11. She was supposed to receive a sedative and medication for pain while they worked, and she received nothing. She felt everything and it hurt like hell. It also hurts when it is being drained, and that is daily for the first week. She has a great home health nurse coming in now, and she has shown Jewell’s daughter and husband how to do it.
1/4 Update – Jewells is still in a lot of pain. The doctor has prescribed morphine. She has an orthopedic appointment soon, where hopefully one problem will be resolved.

12/16 – Teresa in Fort Worth requested prayers for Paul’s niece, Amanda, who had a heart transplant 4 years ago. Now her body has started to reject it. She needs another miracle.

12/17 – Bulg asked for prayers that he would find a job soon.

12/18 – neverenoughcaffeine could use prayers. She has 3 minor medical issues. One she can ignore, but the other 2 are causing loads of pain and discomfort. They may be related. She is praying that her ortho doctor has an answer for both.
12/21 Update – She did receive two shots of cortisone in her foot, which helped with her back issues. Her foot feels better and hopefully will continue to improve. Therapy for her back is also helping.

12/21 – Fenelon Spoke asked for prayers for E, the nurse and caregiver for her church’s retired organist. “E” has been in and out of the hospital for 2 weeks with a bleeding ulcer. Prayers are also needed for Fen’s son’s supervisor who has chest pain and a fever and has missed a couple of days of work. Fen also offered a prayer of thanks to God for FenSon completing his second week of work at a new job, which was a bit challenging since his boss was out ill.

12/21 – Tonypete requested prayers for his buddy Bev. She is normally happy, but something is going on. Lately she is very sad and depressed. One of Bev’s kids has been a cause for concern in the past, so there may be trouble there.

12/21 – J.J. Sefton sends his gratitude for all of the love, prayers, and support this past year. Last Monday, his latest MRI was also negative (that’s three in a row!) and his oncologist is very pleased with his progress.

12/21 – AZ deplorable moron asked for prayers. His first cataract surgery went well and his right eye’s vision is much improved. The left eye, not so much. Infection set in and he’s had steroids and antibiotics constantly for 3 weeks. They don’t know how much vision he will have when it has healed.
12/28 Update – Annie’s Stew apologizes for guessing incorrectly the sex of AZ deplorable moron. His pronouns have been corrected above.
1/4 Update – He has 20/200 vision in his left eye now. He can see the world, but it is dimmer than what the right eye sees. There is also a big dark spot where he focuses.

12/21 – Brave Sir Robin requested prayers for his co-worker, Matt and his wife Jamie and 2 kids. Matt, about 42 years old, was diagnosed with glioblastoma. This same cancer to Brave Sir Robin’s mother. Unless treatment has changed radically, Matt does not have a happy ending. Please pray for wisdom and skill from his doctors, and peace and serenity for Matt and his family.

12/21 – Sugar Plum Fairy requested prayers for her brother-in-law, M, who found out yesterday that he has leukemia. He is only in his mid-thirties and his daughter is 2. He is heading to the hospital for 6 weeks on 12/23 for testing. Please pray for strength for his wife and mother who are in shock and understandably devastated. And for good doctors and total healing if it is God’s will.

12/25 – Molly k asked for prayers. This will be a different Christmas. Mr. k passed away on 12/22. Luckily the girls and grandkids were home. He passed at home, holding their oldest granddaughter’s hand. Christmas will be fun for the “littles” but tough for the rest. 12/26 is the funeral and she is dreading it, but will do her best to make it the best day possible and be thankful for the real meaning of Christmas.

12/25 – vmom deport deport deport asked for prayers for her brother-in-law in the hospital, and for her sister, who is looking out for him.

12/26 – Joe Kidd requested a prayer of thanksgiving for God’s quiet resolution to a problem his younger (and last remaining) sibling was having with a roommate. She suffers from bipolar disorder and tends to make poor decisions when difficulties arise. Communication with her on Christmas indicated that God’s wisdom prevailed on all concerned. Praise Him!

12/28 – LF asked for prayers for success for her daughter’s open heart surgery, to repair an aortic weakness. The surgery should happen around Valentine’s Day. Her daughter is only 48.

12/28 – JW suggested the following Jewish Prayer of Faith for Healing:
JEWISH PRAYER OF FAITH FOR HEALING
Merciful God, we pray to you for the recovery of all who are facing illness or pain.
We join our prayers with all who love them. Grant them renewed strength and courage. Strengthen in them the healing powers You have placed within us all. Guide the hearts and hands of those who are entrusted with their care.
Help all who share the anxiety of this illness to be brave and hopeful.
Inspire us with courage and faith. Grant your blessings to all who call upon you.
Oh God, who blessed our ancestors, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; Sarah, Rebekkah, Leah, and Rachel, send your blessings to all who are ill.
Have mercy on them, and graciously restore their health and strength.
Grant them a complete recovery.
May healing come speedily.
May the knowledge of Your love and ours give added hope to them and to their dear ones.
May they find even greater strength because our prayers are linked to theirs.
When pain and fatigue are our companions, let there be room in our hearts for strength.
When days and nights are filled with darkness, let the light of courage find its place.
Help me to endure the suffering and dissolve the fear; renew within me the calm spirit of trust and peace.
We praise You, Eternal God, the Source of healing and health.

12/28 – Farmer sent thanks for the prayers for healing for his dad and for Jules. Dad is out of the hospital and is recovering. Jules’ recovery is remarkable. After surgery for a perforated ulcer, which caused severe septic shock, she was close to death. After 49 days in the hospital, she went to rehab on 12/27!

1/4 – Smell the Glove asked for prayers for an 80 year old aunt. The aunt was diagnosed with colon cancer and started treatment this week.

1/4 – vmom deport deport deport asked for prayers for her eldest sister. It looks like her illness is cancer.

1/4 – Black Orchid requested prayers for a good friend whose brother is critically ill with possible brain cancer. Black Orchid also offered a prayer of thanksgiving for quick healing of a painful wrist.

1/4 – Chris in California asked for prayers for a son who is having sensory/smell/taste issues that are troubling. They ask for healing for his body, and that he would receive the Lord’s guidance in his mind and heart.

1/4 – San Franpsycho asked for prayers for the repose of Rose, the mother of one of his kindergarten buddies.

1/4 – Tonypete requested prayers for his congregation. They are mostly elderly, and there are a raft of viruses, colds, etc. going around now.

1/4 – Eromero thanked God for his mysterious ways. His friend broke his hip, and 2 days later they removed his gall bladder, which was verging on gangrene. May God also perform wonders on the loved ones on this list, and may He also free America from DC as He freed the Hebrew children from their Egyptian oppressors.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

6 Good morning. I woke up with the realization that all the LA fires are arson.

There are mentally ill people in LA looking forward to the Santa Ana winds for their opportunity. Then there are mentally in people working in government that will do nothing and say anything except the obvious truth.

Then there are the mentally ill public (e.g. Babs Streisand) that refuse to see the truth and parrot the lies of the other mentally ill folks.

Don't know if it's been mentioned before but from Google Earth historical images, the San Ynez reservoir, a large membrane lined pond in the mountains above PP has apparently not been filled since 2009.

It looks like it was drained then to install a cover but it appears it was never filled more than a small amount after that. I suspect the cover failed or didn't work as intended and someone was keeping that quiet.

The thing worked fine until someone decided to "improve "it. Probably some green funds spread around.

24 Morning, coffee folken,

The Johnny Cash pic makes me think of something I heard the other day, attributed to Robin Williams:

"I can violate your standards faster than you can lower them."

"Expectations" could work as well as "standards."

I'm shaved, cleaned up, and dressed. Time for one more brief cup of the black juice before I head out to my favorite diner for breakfast. Re: Dr. Lu Qi, for a researcher to come up with something anti-coffee drinking in a town as dedicated to coffee as Nawlins is like . . . well, I can't think of a simile right now. Suggestions welcome.

45 Then there are mentally in people working in government that will do nothing and say anything except the obvious truth.

Don't Let a Crisis Go To Waste

Sometimes you need to make a crisis, sometimes, when a crisis is inevitable, you must make it epic. Why?

$10M fire: the policy holders and insurance handle it, little government grift.

$100M Fire: Token Emergency Response Money to squander
$1B Fire: State opens up purse, lawsuits fly, government makes good grift
$10B Fire: FEMA money pours in to government plenty of grift to spread around
$100B Fire: You win the US Congress Emergency Fund Sweepstakes Grand Prize AND you get a new permanently funded agency to study the problem and "manage" it.

It is always in a corrupt government's interest to engineer for maximum damage and failure. Best part is that the money that was taxed to Left of Bang (like reservoirs, training, fire-breaks) can be spent on Sodomy, Gay Parades, Illegal Aliens and expensive junkets to Africa.

48 The male of the species on the court haven’t exactly earned our trust either.

As in most things, the gatekeepers (the Senate) winnow out most of the decent, they won’t even get nominated unless they think confirmation is assured, and the range of “acceptable” is … bad.

Buzzy was an ACLU apparatchik. Confirmed 93-0 or something like that. Thanks, guys. She was “qualified” though, don’tcha know.

Now technically speaking, there is no requirement to have passed the bar or be an attorney to be a member of the supreme court. Senate would never allow this, though. One of the great mind virus scams perpetrated is this notion that only someone who has been to school at an Ivy league could ever possibly comprehend the Constitution.

58 Good morning good people. Prayers for all intentions - those requested and those known but to God.

Also, prayers requested for one of our parishioners, Ollie. She passed away last evening. She lived with her son, Michael, who has health problems of his own and he will be lost without her.

Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord, and let Perpetual Light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.

60 Felonious Trump will likely have to administer his own form of retribution.

Barring an appeal to have the sentencing/conviction tossed he'd be well served by turning the DoJ on Merchan and his daughter. Have it crawl so far up their asses neither can swallow. And break both into little pieces when done.

Otherwise all his bitching and moaning is purely academic.

61 There's never been a woman on SCOTUS we could trust. Amy is just following suit. It seems women in law are just not strong.

AG Janet Nero was a charming example after immolating dozens of women and children.

Didn't Trump's pick for AG railroad George Zimmerman on that bogus St Trayvon charge?

I hope we don't have a disaster in the waiting on the order of Trump's female M Garland.

I'm keeping my expectations very low. Trump is an epic disaster when it comes to picking supreme court judges and AGs.

A couple of hours is a bit much, but the current biohacking wisdom is to drink something with sodium in it first, to give your system a chance to wake up. Coffee first thing doesn't do much because your body isn't woken up enough physically to get much good for it yet, and the sodium helps with that.

(this is an approximation, not actual biochem)

They trotted out Plugs Biden to falsely impugn the character of Clarence Thomas. One of the more odious chapters in Senate history. Any normal, decent candidate is going to have to run the gauntlet.

I gauge the quality of a candidate generally by his enemies. If the usual suspects start screeching hysterically, he’s probably fine. The Kavanugh thing was a bit over the top. Not sure why they did that. Practice, I suppose. And becsuse, why not?

I knew this country was in deep shit, when attorneys in and out of the “news” and politicians were perfectly fine with throwing out bedrock foundations and pillars holding everything up, like presumption of innocence.

"This isn’t a job for the weak. She’s not who we thought she was. An absolute lightweight who doesn’t have the strength needed for the Supreme Court and to make sure the US constitution is followed."

The problem with any of these judges is much like the same problem as the Pharisees.

They are constantly considering the wording of the law and, allegedly, the original intent of the law.

But the law serves a deeper meta-level intent, which people rarely consider because of the minutiae. In the case of the Constitution, the real intent of the founders wasn't to create a legal code to be rigorously adhered to, it was to limit the actions of government to wrong, oppress, or otherwise carry out injustice against the citizens.

If ACB can't look at the Trump case and understand this is exactly what is occurring, a miscarriage of justice and political persecution, then she has no wisdom in her and unfit for the bench.

To Patel's statement, I differ in opinion. it is a job for the weak. For the weak understand precisely what the weight of government is in their impotent state.

ACB isn't weak. She's unwise in her exercise of power.

Yep. And Amazon is including a notice with their return pages now that you might not get a refund for returning the new, unopened item since you tripped some AI algorithm for returning products per the terms of the purchase.

Convenience is reduced, and once people start outright losing money with Amazon they're going to go back to walmart.

FWIW if you do a chargeback with Amazon you're blacklisted, so you'll only get your money back once

And the highest court in the land which had ruled that the preznit can't be charged with anything, then indicated that it would be acceptable to convict him of something. You do know that Sears so owned the Order and Deliver mechanism with regional warehouses and local fulfillment centers that their catalogs were called "The Consumer's Bible".

All they had to do was make it go on-line. They already had their financial network when they created the Discover Card.

Their management moved into the Aristocracy phase of assessments of their skills and strengths and thought they could do things way outside their abilities. Its their hubris that killed Sears. That, and rejecting their core consumers and retailoring their ads and product line to go after the stereotype of a "black consumer".

That's not true. This was an emergency filing, not the normal chain of appeals. Trump was asking for a special intervention outside of the chain you describe.

That process will now move forward, and there will be additional discovery as the case moves forward, this time with federal prosecutors looking for civil rights violations.

There is a case for shutting it down and a case for letting it play out.

Merchan and the DA, Alvin Bragg didn't hatch this by themselves. Put the proverbial screws to them and see who they proffer up. Then, put the two of them away for life and hang the others.

I believe NY Court of Appeals is up now that Merchan is finally finished. Many have a misconception as to what the hearings this last week; they weren’t about the merits of the case, they were about whether there should be an emergency intervention from a higher court to block the sentencing.

The fact that a given judge, judges or court may make a bastardization of want constitutes "oppression" does not entail that the founders did not have the intent to alleviate the possibility of government oppression.

The court (and society) has been complicit with the notion that all things are under the purview of the court when the founders were quite explicit in their limitation as to what the boundaries of federalism are and that things not enumerated lay with the states and the people to regulate their own societies and personal lives.

209 Sears also had prime real estate that could have stored product.

There are a gazillion companies now a distant memory that could have done things different, in hindsight. But the leadership was hidebound and sclerotic. If not a Monopoly, but they just don’t see the horizon. People have told me at the end, towards the end, it wasn’t very fun working there. At one time it was a pretty nice place to work.

There car maintenance was excellent for basics. I’d call up some place for tires or batteries or a tune up or whatever. “Bring it in next Tuesday at 3 PM. Heck I don’t want to do that.

Call up Sears auto. “Yeah, bring it in at 1 this afternoon”. How they could do that, I dunno.

To be honest, I've not followed this at all because it's so pointless. I assume Trump tried state intervention before going federal.

I'm just not that interested in the topic.

God permit evil as a means to call the faithful to repent. It also exposes the crimes of sinners, who also experience chastisement.

The last year has been a massive demonstration of divine justice, and each time evil appears to prevail, it is in reality the prologue to more justice being meted out.

The fire on Maui was devastating, exposed great incompetence, but not much media reported on the fact that the Catholic parish there was miraculously spared from the fires, and served as a sanctuary for recovery effort. Churches are now doing the same thing in California.

These are blessings that otherwise would never have happened.

"Climate Change" is the bogeyman that is going to destroy your way of life so you need to cough up more tax money and surrender even more of your liberty so that the government can protect you from the bogeyman. They take that money and piss it away on themselves and their luxury/vanity projects.

Then calamity hits, they remind you that this is the invincible Bogey Man that somehow would have been stopped if you surrendered even more money and liberty. Now they need federal funding to the tune of tens of billions to fight the bogeyman which gives them more money for the luxury/vanity projects.

Texas was about to score, at 4th and goal and even up the game with 2 minutes left, when Sawyer knocked the ball loose. It bounced off the carpet and right into his hands and to his great surprise he found himself galloping untouched all the way down the field. Instead of the tie score Texas felt like they were going to get, Jack Sawyer put the game out of reach. After Texas won in overtime last week another overtime game would have felt like a repeat in the making. But Sawyer and the outstanding defense changed all that. Great game. Great win. But glad to get out of that one.

It’s not like the policies that caused these fires were unknown. Substitute anything else for a fire. Let’s say event X fucked shit up badly for a lot of people. And Event X was due to the actions of lots of Republicans.

What would happen? Almost certainly the current Republicans would be voted out. But they wouldn’t be suddenly replaced with socialist Democrats. They’d just be replaced with other Republicans.

That’s kinda my point. Maybe Bass will resign in disgrace. Maybe this is a fatal blow to Newsom’s presidential hopes. But the next mayor will be a Democrat as will the next governor. They’ll swap out names and faces but not ideology.

It is known that there are wildfire mitigation policies that if followed would have (as it says right there in the name) mitigated the destruction by fire. Those policies are written down... filed away. And ignored.

333 Braenyard: read up on Tea. I don’t care too much for it, but it is first and foremost a medicinal. Tannins and polyphenols have very interesting properties. I doubt they help much loaded with cream and sugar or full stomach. Coffee has tannins as well, but tea seems to work better.

If you’re getting into intermittent fasting, both black coffee and tea are excellent. If you just have to have a splash of milk or cream it’s probably OK, but.

Researchers note tea has a strong anti-microbial or bacteria effect on teeth and gums. Maybe not pearly whites but better than gum disease. Note that oral infections can rapidly turn to sepsis or whatever and kill people. And the tannin’s internally act like a sort of natural nano-medicine, with an affinity to protein. “Bad” bacteria in our guts are inhibited whilst leaving “good” bacteria to re-populate. If you happen to have gut or digestive issues, it’s worth trying and can’t hurt.

These predictions are based on static analysis and pessimism. The fact is we are in a period of remarkable change and upheaval. Immigration enforcement is ten days away, and a bunch of folks are going to look at the charred remains of LA and go back home. The California National Guard will likely be federalized (to secure funding), which will eliminate state control, further convincing illegals to leave.

Meanwhile, the facts on the ground are world-changing for a lot of people. Having your safe, trendy house trashed can bring about an existential crisis in what you believe.

I lived in the South for a few years. It cracked up too. Yeah I get it you don’t have the infrastructure to remove snow and nobody has snow tires and all that. But holy shit, it’s not WW3 either. Chill the fuck out people.

Every winter I lived down there there was snow. Sometimes more than once in the same winter. It wasn’t THAT uncommon. Yet people and especially the local news acted like it was a once in a thousand year event each time it happened.

And then 36 hours later it warmed up, snow melted and everyone went on with their lives. It was hilarious.

340 California is on a path to ruin and it's likely irreversible. Productive people are fleeing to other states, not just A-listers. The killer is job loss from new business that would have gone to CA but will now go elsewhere. This is a slow-eating cancer.

341 Well, California has it worse than most. You can find reckless, incompetent, devil-may-care authoritarian government across the breadth and depth of America. This may be a stretch, but look at how everyone was acting at Carter’s funeral. I think this may be a sign as to how the different Democrat factions are dealing with this. Hillary looked like the most pissed off person in the world, but mostly just sat there doing nothing. Kamala was a complete non-person, Biden not only didn’t speak to her, he never even looked at her. And then in the back Obama and Trump were yukking it up like Carson and Rickles, looked like a sign that Obama’s people have decided it’s better to work with Trump now rather than against him.

As an Amazon author, Prime works well for me and I get more out of Amazon than it gets out of me.

But I am broadening my shopping. Ebay has lots of the same stuff, but cheaper. Big box retailers have upped their game considerably of late. In-store pickup is even faster than shipping, and I do a lot of that now.

For example, my Keurig died on Thursday. [Moment of silence.] Best Buy was actually cheaper than Amazon and had free shipping. Oh, and I got rewards, making it an even better deal.

Same with Petsmart. yes, it is weird having two gay guys holding a gerbil serving as their celebrity endorsers, but I order the stuff, get a discount, and so it's cheap and easy.

Sorry. Churches are doing the same thing as what? Burning? Yep. We already had a brief discussion in the morning thread about that., churches and synagogues are not immune from disasters. We have a song in our hymnal “ The church is not a building. The church is not a steeple…the church is a people. “ It’s true of course. but just as houses were people had spent many years , people are attached to churches where they were baptized, got married and saw their children and grandchildren married and worshipped for many years it must be a terrible blow to them. So yes, I will pray for those communities and leave God to determine whose heart is right and whose is not.

363 Nobody under 30 shops in person anymore. Well legally shops in person. Retailers closing physical locations is simply a response to how people shop.

Also see fast food. Walk into most fast food joints and they’re usually pretty empty. Not because people aren’t eating their food. But because an ever increasing portion of that food is via delivery apps.

There is a trend now for fast food locations to no longer have a dining area. 100% drive through or to go locations are popping up.

364 Add in the fact that the corrupt judge very publicly announced that he was not going to sentence Trump with anything. Posted by: Mister Scott (Formerly GWS) at January 11, 2025 10:14 AM (Rcnd3)

The problem I have with these discussions is that so many people focus on the people involved. It's not about Trump. It's not about this corrupt judge, and the cowards like Ami Cummy Barrett.

It's about this so-called republic, and the fact that corruption is built into the whole damn facade, and people more or less take it.

Whenever someone roots for this or that outcome from a court case, or even an election, and if you get it, you cheer, if you don't, you grumble and whine.

In that sense, getting wrapped up in outcomes means you're part of the whole damned mess. A participant in it.

366 I’ve hiked for many years in the backcountry, read hiking forums, know how they think.

To some, they start out “the loss of life and property is tragic (but) the loss of animal and plant life blah blah”. A horse is a goose is a mosquito is a human. Many on the left wish to see humanity itself destroyed.

They will fall over themselves discussing “leave no trace” techniques. All well and good, but they treat humans as aliens. They suggest not smoothing out the pebbles to make a flat comfortable spot to pitch their (nylon!) tent, because micro-organisms live under the pine needles and pebbles.

“The Bears were here first!” Yeah, I don’t care. I’m here second. Much of “environmental” policy long ago is just geared to excluding humans altogether.

Every now and then we bring up the ancient Chinese concept of The Mandate of Heaven. It’s not really religious, since they have never been a very religious people, it’s more of an observation of How Things Work over a long period of time. The idea is that when the rulers lose The Mandate of Heaven, *everything* goes wrong. Cities burn down, plagues and starvation sweeps the land, enemies get arrogant and attack, and in short everything that can go wrong does go wrong.
And when the people see that happening, then the people have not only the right, but the Duty to overthrow their ruling system and install some new ruler in its place.

Trump, a brilliant MIT scientist and, oh yeah, Donald Trump’s uncle, who conveniently says, “nothing to see here” while the government quietly packs up Tesla’s life’s work

then, in 1958, a Trackdown episode features a conman named Walter Trump selling people a “magic wall” to save them from the end of the world

but WAIT—it gets weirder: back in the 1890s, Ingersoll Lockwood writes about Baron Trump, a kid from “Castle Trump” going on wild adventures with a guide named Don, and then writes The Last President, where chaos breaks out in America after the election of an outsider

fast forward to 1953 and Wernher von Braun—the father of rocket science—publishes a book about humans colonizing Mars led by a guy literally called Elon!!!

and today we’ve got Elon Musk, who runs Tesla (named after Nikola Tesla!) and is obsessed with getting us to Mars and is not only working with Trump but quite literally got him elected and has even visited his magic wall

Coach bags used to be my go-to gift item for the "hard to buy for." I got a couple for my mother over the years, one for the MIL, a girlfriend or two spread out in there. They were made of leather, in Brooklyn.

While Sara Lee owned them, they started using upholstery fabric more and more, and moved their workshops to lower-labor-cost countries. I stopped buying; the prices did not go down.

The last shoulder bag I got for my wife was Italian military surplus, NIB. The leather and stitching were every bit as nice as the old Coach bags. I had to do some oil work to put a proper top finish on it, but I used to burnish the Coaches too.

459 Misogynoir is a term referring to the combined force of anti-Black racism and misogyny directed towards black women.[1][2]

The term was coined by black feminist writer Moya Bailey in 2008[3] to address misogyny directed toward black transgender[4] and cisgender women[5] in American visual and popular culture.[6]

The concept of misogynoir is grounded in the theory of intersectionality, which analyzes how various social identities such as race, gender, class, age, ability, and sexual orientation interrelate in systems of oppression.[7]

Posted by: Its Go Time Donald

Really? Everyone in the west should move into urban, high rise apartments? Build where you see fit but understand that most places come with risks that you can mitigate but not eliminate. I live in a heavily wooded area. Fires are part of life. In the last 5 years I have been put under evacuation notice twice. The second time, Mrs. Sock left with a loaded car while I remained. I don't have fire insurance. I have taken steps to reduce the risk of my house burning should a fire come through. I accept the risk and don't spend time worrying. If disaster were to happen I don't have an expectation that my loss is a responsibility someone else should pay for. The real issue is government incompetence which amplifies the magnitude of the disaster. Life comes with risk.

Consider the last two SCOTUS decisions.

Biden gets immunity from being charged, no one has charged him.

Trump was charged before the SCOTUS decision, and SCOTUS said that a president can be sentenced on previous charges.

Biden doesn't need to pardon himself because SCOTUS said that he is immune against all of his criminal activity in office - or at least that is it will be perceived and handled by the Babylon DC legal system.

Being Red is an ideological difference than being Blue. It isn't like one is cheering for the Cowboys, but after being humiliated and discouraged enough switches cheering for Kansas City.

Those who vote Blue do not have the kind of character or ideology that is compatible with Conservatives. That is why Conservatives are frustrated with Red Politicians because Red Politicians are actually Marxists who hate America as much as your typical Blue Politician.

541 Hmm, notice mayor Karen Bass absent from this morning's propaganda news presser.

542 >>Two things we know about Trump:

• he is transactional, animosity will not factor in.
• Trump has never said "No" to spending tax dollars.

Right. However, the allocation and requirements to qualify will be interesting.

544 Yeah agreed. It’s not if it’s when a house on the beach in Florida will get wiped out. Sorry but don’t come crying to me about expensive insurance if that’s where you choose to live.

Or build a house that is stout enough to not get blown down by hurricane winds. It is possible.

546 Re: Sears
The reasons Sears and K-Mart failed are named Eddie Lampert. He bought K-Mart, leveraged the value of its leases to buy Sears then proceeded to do nothing but drain value. Sold the Craftsman and Kenmore brands, killed Land’s End and let it all die.

Might have happened anyway given the struggles of stores other than Wal-Mart and Target to remain relevant but EL had a plan and it wasn’t to revamp the businesses. Last time I went to Sears 10 years ago in Queens, the store was awful..
