Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Adam Carolla: California's Government Started These Fires, and Has an Evil Surprise Coming for Those Who Lost Their Homes: They Won't Let You Rebuild the Homes They Burned Down, EitherTrainer/host of The Biggest Loser Gillian Michaels confirmed that, saying that when her home was burned down by another regularly-scheduled disastrous wildfire years ago, it took her a full year just to get the permit to... Bulldoze the wreckage of her destroyed home. Not to rebuild the home. That would take another gauntlet of permit approvals. But just to secure the right to bulldoze away the ruins of her home, she had to wait a year for the blessing of California's oppressive government. You think they're going to just let people rebuild their homes or -- the horrors! -- even rebuild their homes with a somewhat different blueprint this time? Oh no. Oh dear no.Eric Abbenante Matthew J. Peterson

First of all you're going to have to grease the local politicians for the sudden zoning problems that always come up. Then there's the kickbacks to the carpenters, and if you plan on using any cement in this building I'm sure the teamsters would like to have a little chat with ya, and that'll cost ya. Oh and don't forget a little something for the building inspectors. Then there's long term costs such as waste disposal. I don't know if you're familiar with who runs that business but I assure you it's not the boyscouts.

Land grabbing bastards were not just happy with W NC and E TN, no, sir. For pure crystal (semi conductors) and lithium (batteries). Let's grab some Pacific overlook now.
It is very bad for those who have lost homes from both Helene and this mess that is still going. The end of fire insurance months ago was a clue. Someone was preparing, I think. How long was the drained reservoir planned? How long have they known their hydrants were dry? The difference in disasters is that Hollywood, some of them, are wealthy. They have a voice and can yell, unlike the common folk of other disasters. If you live in Malibu and are used to a Pacific view, fight for it, I guess. Altho it is going to be gnarly with future mudslides and government over reach. It will take years. Posted by: ChristyBlinkyTheGreat at January 10, 2025 06:38 PM (gi+MR) 27

🔥 What many don’t realize is that California’s Lieutenant Governor & candidate to replace Newsom in 2026 as Governor is Eleni Tsakopoulos Kounalakis. She’s from a billionaire APARTMENT DEVELOPER family. Her only jobs have been LtGov (did 0), working for dad & Ambassador to Hungary (which her dad paid millions to Obama to buy for her to bolster her political future). She is in office for ONE reason. And you can guess. Kounalakis is the Democratic establishment pick to become next governor. Proof? At the Democratic National Convention, Newsom was only allowed to speak briefly from the FLOOR while totally unknown Kounalakis got a speech from the stage. She cannot be allowed to become Governor. If Newsom resigns, she automatically does and then runs as incumbent. She’s worse than Newsom. Has the public speaking ability of 1/3 a Kamala. Had her dad buy her every job she’s had. If Newsom is recalled, we get someone better. Guaranteed. As none of the establishment elites will be allowed to run against him in a recall. Hetero firefighters are more likely to be male and, therefore, have greater strength. If your house is on fire you should probably prefer the hetero. But... if there aren't any fires, if the fire department is just sitting around being ready... then having a bunch of lesbos shows that you're enlightened and shit.

In the aftermath of the 2018 Paradise CAMP wildfire -
Groups of city residents were escorted to their property and allowed a few hours to sift through the ashes of their former live. Some snuck in via old logging roads. County took a full year to scrape off the toxic top soil and truck it to a special dump site. For over a year no one was allowed to park a RV etc. and live on their property. County tested well water aquifers and found some to be contaminated. Property owners and businesses - with financial resources - installed those thousands of gallon plastic water cisterns. Permitting residential rebuild construction wasn’t onerous, but tedious due to typical red tape. Trade crews spent a lot of time logging burnt trees, placing utility poles etc. PS: Butte County votes republican. Posted by: 13times at January 10, 2025 07:07 PM (UdJdw) 184

I don't think we should be sitting here espousing empathy, sympathy and compassion. I think we should be "piling on the rabbit." We should be encouraging the social justice warriors to make a strong move to claim "ownership" of the Palisades and the Hills in the name of stopping the gentrification. Instead of a slow motion cesspool of Progressivism, let's force feed it down their throats.
Look, California is a plague that keeps experimenting with asinine legislation and causes. But, it doesn't die there. It matriculates into the other 49 states. DEI didn't just pop up in the middle of Oklahoma. It started in places like California and spread there. So, bury them. I'd even recommend that come Jan. 20th all federal funds be cut off from metro Los Angeles until they negate their "Sanctuary City" status. Not a cent. Deal with it. We're too compassionate and humane when it comes to situations like this. These people have been spewing their Progressive nonsense at us ad nauseum for decades. Yep, its a brilliant strategery. If the fires were easily controlled and contained, then insurance pays off no the structures, government gets nothing. If the event rises to disaster then FEMA money goes straight to government coffers and is quickly plundered. If the event rises to epic disaster, then not only FEMA money, but hundreds of billions goes to the grifters PLUS a brand new agency as a reward for the disaster complete with new sinecures and lifelong benefits, pensions and lavish expense accounts. IOW, it is in a local government's best interest to create the conditions to result in epic disaster because that results in the greatest Prize Winnings from Babylon DC. This was designed to be epic. 🔥🔥🔥 In addition to creating tens of thousands of newly homeless people and an insurance catastrophe, the Newsom Fires™️ are going to create another crisis: Property taxe revenues. In CA, property taxes are based on property value and property value is broken down into approximately 2/3 building and 1/3 land. When a building burns down, you can file to only pay tax on the land, and not the building anymore. Approximately $150 billion burned. That means 2/3 ($100 billion) will no longer be taxed! Taxes in LA are around 1.25%, meaning LA County will lose $1.25 BILLION a YEAR in property tax revenue! Starting NOW. 👋 money for schools, firefighting, and so much more. Posted by: San Franpsycho at January 10, 2025 07:32 PM (RIvkX) I doubt they got a truck within miles of his house. But yeah it smells like smoke I bet. 285 You know one thing when we are throwing the Calis to the wolves: we just watched California count votes into December to sweep up every single house seat they could.
How free are the elections that we blame the Calis for? I am not saying there are not a shitload of nutbars there, but how many? Can we know? (No.) Posted by: Aetius451AD at January 10, 2025 07:26 PM (bss/y) Trunp got 34% in LA county. Was it really 35.3% and fraud bumped it to 24%? Maybe. Who knows. But it’s pretty unlikely Trump got 53% and fraud dropped him down to 34%. And by unlikely I mean impossible. I mean let’s be real here. SoCal is a really really teaaaaaalllly left wing place. Yeah, the best public schools in Portland are in the wealthy neighborhoods.
Therefore, we should build lots of Section 8 housing in those neighborhoods, so poor kids can take advantage of those wonderful schools, which won't change in the slightest after the Section 8 housing gets built. Posted by: Left-Wing Portland Nonprofits! at January 10, 2025 07:27 PM (uxCna) Those good schools were built on the Magic School Dirt which was hoarded by privileged people. We must ensure equitable distribution of Magic School Dirt to those facing systemic and structural and unconscious bias! Hobos will begin squatting on burned properties almost immediately. I anticipate confrontations between vagrants and the rightful owners, and possible fatalities.
And I wonder if this disaster will create new opportunities for title theft. Posted by: Semi-Literate Thug at January 10, 2025 07:30 PM (g3j/k) Venezuelan gangs called and said "who you calling hobos, S. A.!" Posted by: BurtTC at January 10, 2025 07:35 PM (lH8E4) 326

Not a popular opinion to print billions of otherwise non-existent fed money to rebuild these areas, but if it does happen, Trump, real estate developer, would figure out the best, most cost effective way of doing it.

I would not be surprised if the powers allow Chinese backed megacorps to buy up all the burned land, and after that they can build it up for the CCP who will move in their own people to take it over. In 10 years there will be no Americans there.

303 And where do you live while you are rebuilding your house once the insurance finally settles and you get a loan to rebuild. Where do your kids go to school? Where do you find work? Imagine all your electronics are gone, your car, every single fork and spoon.
This is an unbelievable tradgedy for everyone except the imcredibly wealthy. Even they will have to sell assets to rebuild. This will takes years to recover from. Posted by: Sharon(willow's apprentice) at January 10, 2025 07:30 PM (t/2Uw) Every year lots of people have their homes destroyed by fire or flood or hurricane. People deal with it. As for a new job, why would that be a factor? A burned down house doesn’t mean your job disappears. Posted by: Its Go Time Donald at January 10, 2025 07:39 PM (MSZJ6) 336

A typical home insurance policy provides 1-2 years of living expenses after a total loss. So it’s not like eveyone has to suddenly pay rent and mortgage. The rent on a new place is covered. As is the cost to buy new stuff lost in the home. All those forks and electronics.

242 I predict that affordable housing advocates will say that it's not fair that 'regular' people can't live in Pacific Palisades, or send their kids to the schools there. They will want apartments with affordable housing units built on the hills.

Posted by: Its Go Time Donald at January 10, 2025 07:18 PM (MSZJ6) THIS! If you remember the 9th Ward in NOLA after Katrina under water. Some houses were obviously condemned and dozed and rebuilt by some owners. The last time I was there (years ago) some were still in bad shape and falling down. NOTE that the gubment did not want them. A mountain in Malibu facing the Pacific? Yes, sir, they will want that unless the star power is stronger than I think. Generations held farms in W NC have been taken from families, not movie stars. We'll see. What's safe in Palisades should be safe in W NC for some. But it won't be if I had to bet. quick Google search and the county generated $24B in property tax last year. $100m is less than 1/2 a percent.
Posted by: Its Go Time Donald ---- It's funny you think that they won't still have to pay property taxes. Or mortgages if the houses aren't paid off. Remember, insurance companies have been pulling out so there's a good chance many properties weren't insured. Posted by: lin-duh at January 10, 2025 07:53 PM (llS7k) 340

So apparently the DEI fire chief has been fired.
Not because she was incompetent at her job. Not because she destroyed the department's ability to fight fires. Not because she got people killed and BILLIONS of dollars in damage because of her total inability to manage basic fire safety. No, she was fired less than 12 hours after daring to publicly criticize a Democrat politician. Posted by: DudeAbiding at January 10, 2025 09:32 PM (lCHt6) 345
