Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The Morning Report — 1/10/25I had tickets to see Three Lesbians Named Kirsten open for Men Without Hoses at the Hollywood Bowl in '93, but it got cancelled by the Malibu wildfire. The most important thing to know about Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristin Crowley is that she is the first LGBTQ fire chief in the history of the Los Angeles Fire Department. It’s also the only thing worth knowing about the woman in charge while Los Angeles burned. Crowley’s status as the first LGBTQ fire chief appears at the top of her bio on the LAFD site. It’s what got her on the Kelly Clarkson show under the headline, “Meet LAFD’s First Female & LGBTQ+ Fire Chief” and made her one of the marshals of the Los Angeles Pride Parade (some of whose attendees no longer have homes after the wave of fires.) But DEI wasn’t done with the LAFD just yet. Not until two other lesbian ‘Kirstens’ were also running the LAFD. Kristina Kepner, the first lesbian Assistant Chief and a graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School for Managing Diverse Organizations, was accused of a domestic violence incident involving her girlfriend. Kristine Larson, who has a degree in Sociology, headed ‘Equity on Fire’, an organization complaining that the LAFD was sexist and racist, was then rewarded with the title of the LAFD’s first lesbian Equity Bureau Chief with a $399,000 salary. Diversity mandates had led to three lesbians named some version of ‘Kirsten’ running the LAFD. Meanwhile, Jamie Brown became the LAFD’s first lesbian Training Commander. Her accomplishment was being the only one of the four lesbians running the LAFD who wasn’t named ‘Kirsten’. Many glass ceilings were being broken, but there was no one who actually knew how to fight fires. Unless it was by asking the fire about its preferred pronouns. If only Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union and Red China were run by this kind of lunacy. Meh, their insane asylums and prisons are filled with sane people insane enough to reject glorious socialism and who yearn for liberty. Hell, it was those regimes, especially the Soviets starting in the 20s through the collapse of the Berlin wall and now the Red Chinese infiltrators and our own homegrown traitor infiltrators (Infill Traitors!) in and out of government who have mind- and body-raped three generations of Americans into dismantling and destroying our society from within. As for Nazi Germany, the tragedy is quite a few refugees before and after the Second World War (Theodore Adorno and Hebert Marcuse aka the Frankfurt School) laid the groundwork for all this woke madness that has undermined the foundations of the greatest nation and society in human history by capturing American academia and holding it hostage right up to the present time. If this is a story, and it's not a one-off. I've had many similar ones over just the last year if not many more over the past four for sure. The University of Utah’s medical school paid over $75,000 to be a member of the influential Association of American Medical Colleges, the DEI-focused organization that facilitates medical education throughout North America, according to an invoice shared with The Daily Wire. The invoice, obtained through a public information request by Do No Harm, an organization opposed to the politicization of medicine, shows that the University of Utah’s Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine paid $75,760 for a year-long institutional membership in the AAMC starting on July 1, 2024. The AAMC counts as members all 158 American medical schools accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), which the organization co-sponsors. The AAMC has been accused of harming medical education through leftist political initiatives, including its commitment to DEI initiatives, “anti-racism,” and promoting transgender ideology. A comprehensive report from Do No Harm highlights the full extent of the AAMC’s DEI programs. Now take that story and substitute every profession, from janitor to nuclear physicist, and you get what was known as the Prairie Fire Organizing Committee, with such individuals as Billy Ayers, Bernardine Dohrn and others who from the 60s to the present day fantasized, plotted and committed actual acts of terrorism to overthrow and destroy the United States of America from within and replace it with, let's just say the metaphorical equivalent of what we are seeing in Pacific Palisades, even if it takes a literal inferno that sweeps from coast to coast. Hence the name Prairie Fire. Founded in 1975, the Prairie Fire Organizing Committee (PFOC) describes itself as “a grassroots activist organization” that works to bring “social change” to an American nation it characterizes as rife with “racism, sexism, homophobia, classism and imperialism” — a land governed by “a capitalist system that favors a select few and oppresses the majority.” PFOC derived its name from a 1974 book published by the Weather Underground Organization. Titled Prairie Fire: The Politics of Revolutionary Anti-Imperialism, this screed spurred the creation of radically minded “Prairie Fire” discussion groups in cities across the United States. Portraying American history as an uninterrupted narrative of brutality and “imperialist expropriation,” PFOC accuses the U.S. of “systematically us[ing] its military, political and economic might to dominate and control the government, people and resources of other nations for its own benefit.” The organization refuses to recognize the United States as an entity with a legitimate right to exist — on grounds that the country’s creation and historical development were steeped in what PFOC views as irredeemable wrongdoing: “The early colonists stole Native American land and killed indigenous people. White settlers enslaved millions of Africans and used their labor to build the U.S. . . The issues of major concern to PFOC include the following: White Supremacy: “White supremacy remains a dominant ideology in the United States. This country was founded on the belief that white people are superior to people of color. … White supremacy is … a system of privilege that benefits all white people and permeates every aspect of our society … a society that blames people of color for poverty and crime.” As evidence of the degree to which white supremacist attitudes suffuse American life, PFOC cites “racial profiling by the police, extreme bias in the application of the death penalty and in sentencing, and denial of adequate education” for minorities. If the term White Supremacy seems familiar, it should since that has been the constant drumbeat from the DemoKKKrat-Left since the electrifying victories of Donald Trump in 2016 and 2024, and the equally electrifying persecution of him and us via the theft and its aftermath of the 2020 election. On that score, the Supreme Court has turned down his request to have his sentencing on sham charges by hack in black Juan Merchan of menace before his inauguration. Donald Trump is America's Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn and Alfred Dreyfus all rolled into one ORANGE MAN-DELA. Pivoting back to the LosAngeles wildfires, Climate Change strikes again!!!! This time in the form not of a hockey stick computer model but a Homeless scumbag playing with fire... How — and why — the fire was started is still not clear, he added, but the blaze is “being investigated as a crime.”The suspect is a homeless man in his 30s, according to Fox LA’s Elex Michaelson, who added that firefighters “appear to have gained the upper hand” on the blaze.Would not surprise me if this guy was paid to start the fire by the Earth Liberation Front to blame global warming, ditto to be used as cover to light the other fires in the region. There are quite a number of links speculating that these wildfires are the ultimate mugging by reality that potentially if not likely could turn California Red. My gut tells me that it will likely destroy the political futures of Newsome and Bass. But for people, especially lifelong liberals to look in the mirror, if they can find one in the smoldering rubble of their homes and pull an Alec Guinness River Kwai moment and ask "What Have I done?!!!" is too much for me to expect. The Democrat/Leftist bench is dark and deep, so likely they will place the blame on global warming and that pair's ineptitude for sabotaging Comrade Stalin's glorious plan and the glorious socialist cause and replace them with two more just like them. Lather, rinse and Napalm again 10 years from now. As Trump might say, we shall see. I hope he can make political lemonade from this cyanide laced Jonestown flavorade, and Make California normal again. On a positive note, the moldering corpse of Jimmy Carter is heading for wherever. It deserves a spot in the Marianas Trench, next to his hero, Osama bin Laden. Have a great weekend, and prayers for deliverance, safety and strength to all of those affected by the wildfires. And lastly, a quick shout-out and thank you for your continued support in hitting our tip jar. It truly is appreciated more than you can know.

Looks like the Eaton fire started at the base of an electrical tower. My neighbor thought he spotted the small fire under a tower from the freeway. Told us as much yesterday. Now there appears to be video from someone confirming it.
So Eaton is probably on SoCal Edison and the winds. Palisades? I dunno. The smaller random fires certainly look like arson. Posted by: Grudge Harbor at January 10, 2025 07:49 AM (1bfKT) 15

++++ Politics are tribal first and logical second, and California politics are particularly tribal. People have no conception of the relationship between politics, policy and outcomes. I was in CA for a conference in, I think, 2018 or 2019. We were in a swanky hotel in San Francisco and one of my colleagues who I knew and who was a "good CA liberal" from the home office in the Valley had come down for it. We were standing on the sixth floor and looking out the window at the street below and all of its filth, graffiti, tents, bums, trash and so on. She suddenly and plaintively said, "how did this happen?" I couldn't stop myself. I asked her, "Have you ever considered not voting for the people who permitted this to happen?" She became visibly confused. And she isn't stupid. Just a "good person" and therefore a California Democrat. She's not a garbage person, so she has no choice but to keep re-electing them. CA is dry. Always has been. Fire is always a threat and a problem.
But how much has policy amplified the disaster? What if PG&E were permitted to do right-of-way maintenance? What is local authorities were serious about slash collection and destruction? What if street bums weren't coddled to the point that there are thousands of them crazily setting fires (as is alleged to have happened here)? What if the state had finished the CA Water Project instead of pursuing enviro-insanity? What if water levels weren't permanently lowered and reservoirs destroyed in a gambit to save the Delta Smelt? What if the fire department had been organized according to merit instead of ideology? Fires - if not this one, then one like it - are bound to happen in California, just as they are bound to happen in Colorado and Alberta. But how much worse is this because of feckless and retarded policy? There is no way to know, but my bet is "enormously worse." Did the Crusades Spoil 'Five Centuries of Peaceful Coexistence' With Islam?
The objective (of the First Crusade) was the recovery of the Holy Land from Islamic rule. While Jerusalem had been under Muslim rule for hundreds of years (no doubt annexed via totally peaceful means), by the 11th century the Seljuk takeover of the region threatened local Christian populations, pilgrimages from the West, and the Byzantine Empire itself. The forests are too thick since we stopped them from burning down, and there is widespread objection to both controlled burns and logging/right-of-way clearance, for different reasons. Controlled burns *can* get out of control and be disastrous (happened a couple of times in my area when I lived there), but they probably do more good than harm on balance. And logging along the right-of-way is good, period. But tree-huggers gonna tree-hug. Nobody tell them how many wildfires the Indians set in their version of land management. Here's how I see things today:
Kamala is finished in politics. But she will still find work in either academia or television. Newsom is finished in politics. He won't resign or be recalled, but he is currently serving his last term in any office. You've seen the drone footage of the destroyed neighborhoods. It won't look too much different a year from now. In 10 days, this will all be Trump's fault for not being made whole instantly the day following his inauguration. The Democrat Party will maintain its stranglehold on politics in California. Republicans may make some inroads, make some races closer, but that's as far as the red-pilling will go. Again, this is all IMO. Posted by: Don Black at January 10, 2025 08:31 AM (AOsQT) 148

I don’t mean to suggest that Angelenos somehow deserve the catastrophe that has befallen them; to do so would be not only misguided but unforgivably cruel.
How is it misguided and unforgivably cruel? I mean, one is bringing up the Hebrew Bible and God's Wrath and its misguided to ask what God's Wrath is against? That God's judgements are cruel? What kind of arrogant psychopath feels they have the authority to question the Almighty and define what is cruel? Nonethless, the error is on the author's part suggesting that physical calamities are God's judgement. Rather earthquakes, fires and famines are God's tools to move people and to be used as signs and markers. The Bible is clear that when God judges a people, its through that people's leaders. Demons can't create whirlwinds, they can possess people and drive them into madness. This is spiritual warfare, not one against the Elements. A smaller bird population, even if it had happened, is better than mountains of human dead lost to preventable disease. Humans are more important than birds. The beloved Rachel Carson killed more black people than anyone else in history and ranks among the top tier of mass killers, yet she is celebrated. Human life is not the top priority for these people. It never has been. They hate man as such. ELON: IT WILL TAKE YEARS TO REBUILD LA He said that people in LA hit by the devastating fires will realize how much local government bureaucracy works against them when they try to rebuild their homes: “The real red pill will come when people try to get permits to rebuild their homes and face multiyear waits. This might finally spell doom for the Coastal Commission, which should not even exist as an organization.” Posted by: andycanuck (iMpf5) at January 10, 2025 09:06 AM (iMpf5) 292

I need a fact-check on my current assumptions about rebuilding after the fire: 1. It can take years to get anything approved in normal times in California. The backlog from the fire could push it out a decade. 2. The cost of building a custom home in California is roughly double the market value of the home when done. 3. The new home will get a property tax step-up to become unaffordable for anyone who owned the original home for a decade or more. 4. The fire risk will return once everything regrows, and insurance companies will not come back. Here I assume continued state incompetence. 5. There are not enough qualified builders to rebuild. 6. Owners would be rebuilding in the midst of unchecked and growing crime. Posted by: andycanuck (iMpf5) at January 10, 2025 09:06 AM (iMpf5) 293

Posted by: Sponge - F*ck Cancer at January 10, 2025 09:04 AM (Zz0t1) ++++ And it can't be dealt with even if you do know how to drive in it. Places that don't get snow don't have the infrastructure for snow management. Snowplows, staging for sand and salt (and the sand and salt), men to operate the snowplows, etc. are all very expensive. You don't maintain that kind of sunk cost unless you need to. The south doesn't need to. So snow doesn't get cleared. Roads don't get deiced. Everything turns into one big ice sheet pretty quickly and then inexperienced drivers pour onto it. Even experienced drivers struggle on ice, and the roads just become ice. One inch of snow or two feet might as well be the same thing in terms of road conditions (though not the duration of the awful period that follows). Had a big snow (30-year storm, basically) last year and my town was shut down for a week. We had some plows in storage that they bolted onto dump trucks to clear roads, but it took a long time to cover everything. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at January 10, 2025 09:08 AM (HnUIn) 304
That's a good point. The fire is an environmental disaster, but the wreckage left behind will be just as bad, if not worse, since they have to dispose of all that material *somewhere*.
Being California, they will have to spend years on environmental impact studies to find a suitable location where the rubble won't kill off a mythical endangered creature. Posted by: "Perfessor" Squirrel at January 10, 2025 08:32 AM I seriously doubt we will see much rebuilding. Most building codes in california have been drastically changed since those houses were built and single family houses are discouraged or actually prohibited in parts of LA. I guess they can give them waivers to rebuild to what they had but I don't see that happening on a massive scale. Couple that with the fact that the vast majority of the homes destroyed had no insurance and there is no vast pool of money sitting around to rebuild them. So unless the federal government steps in, rebuilding ain't gonna happen on any sort of large scale. Posted by: Mister Scott (Formerly GWS) at January 10, 2025 09:08 AM (Rcnd3) 305

They know the incompetence that exists in your elected officials which you won’t acknowledge or accept. It’s not that they are greedy. Watched Scott Adams daily video yesterday out of curiosity, and he was very carefully conveying that the mood in CA is not stoic or sad as it may appear. He said people are "homicidal" because they know that this was done to them intentionally through: 1] Incompetent fire preparedness, and 2] Knowingly changing insurance regulations to chase Insurers out of the state, leaving people uninsured. My property is becoming a parking lot of winter doom. A corner lot. One road comes down a hill to my corner and then goes up another. Both steep climb/descents. They get stuck, try to power out of it, and then slide up onto my yard. I don't have anything to put out, or I would grit up the road there just to keep the cars off my lawn. Oh well, note for next time.

Any lot that can’t get property insurance should either be turned back onto a field or fully insured by the county and state who takes their tax money. There should not be any federal liability.
Why are we subsidizing people’s bad decisions and counties greed when they decide to build in flood and fire zones? Posted by: Marcus T - This is a tad tricky now that we're no longer a high-trust society. Someone no longer able to get insurance because Blackrock threatened financing the insurance company for week-to-week budgetary concerns is COMPLETELY different than a code violation. A Quebec water bomber fighting the Palisades Fire in Los Angeles has been grounded after it collided with a drone flying in restricted airspace, officials said. The collision left the plane, known as Quebec 1, with a "sizable hole in its wing," said Christopher Thomas, a spokesperson with the California state firefighting agency, Cal Fire. "Fortunately, they landed the plane without incident," Thomas said in an interview Friday. The incident downed all aircraft fighting the fire for nearly half an hour on Thursday while officials made sure the skies were clear, he said.
