My wife, chemist, got sick of soap discoloring the even patina on ours. So she found 7.0 pH hand soap. It never discolored again, unless someone poured something unusual in it.
That's the key. Get the color right, 7.0 pH and nothing else. Or as someone said maybe seal it with some kind of resin (which it should have come with anyway; I'd NEVER buy one of these knowing now what a PITA they are). Posted by: Frank at January 12, 2025 02:12 PM (75cud) 39

My sister built a house with beautiful wooden countertops in the kitchen. They lasted as long as she lived there, but then she moved out and turned the place over to our grandmother, who cooks three meals a day plus a snack and everyone is always there because she's the Grand Central Matriarch of all time. Those countertops look very used now. Plus my grandmother has a thing for covering everything. Put a towel down, then put a cutting board over that, then a cloth over that, then THAT'S where you put the coffeepot... when it's time to clean, the wooden countertop has rotted and turned black. Kyrie is is correct. Certain antique or replica gunmetals aka brass tarnish. Waxing puts a protective surface. Renaissance wax for fine items, nucar finished for less important tasks like brass cartridges. A more durable finish is clear paint lacquer which is often what brass lamps, candelabra, etc have as protective layer.

We originally saw a water spot in the ceiling, had a plumber out, and now there is a big hole in the ceiling from his seeking of the leak source. It didn’t leak when he was here, so we thought it may have been from a clogged toilet in the past. We replaced the seal etc. 2 nights ago, she was in the shower and a picture fell off the wall in the den. There was a huge bubble of water behind the paint. Ugh! We turned off the water to everything in her bathroom and now she has to schlep down the hall to use the hallway bathroom (the humanity, right?) and we will be calling a plumber again tomorrow. It's copper. Its surface will oxidize an darken from sulfurous species in the air. Over time, it may develop a pleasing look of some sort -- folks call that a patina. Me, I'd just let it go if you are not using the sink much, ever. Cleaning toilet bowl once a week is more important than cleaning a sink bowl that almost never gets used. Clean it when you need to. Bon-Ami or Barkeeper's Friend, both of which are mildly abrasive, will do the trick nicely. There also is something called Penny Bright, a solution of citric acid, which will clean it (or vinegar, too). My sink is made out of crypto currency. Sometimes it's floating up near the ceiling. Sometimes is below the floorboards. Other times I just can't see it at all. Last Wednesday it was right where it was supposed to be (all nice and clean), but there was this government hack standing in the middle of my house staring at it like my sink was going to make a break for it.

A call reporting the potential burglary at Harris' property on Bundy Drive, north of Sunset Drive, came into the West Los Angeles station around 4:40 a.m., KTLA reported. Posted by: San Franpsycho at January 12, 2025 02:06 PM (RIvkX) We've trod this ground before, but I have switched to the "old fashioned" double-edge razors years ago. The blades are cheap enough that you can easily afford to switch out a fresh blade every week. My favorite razor is a Gillette Super Speed made in 1946. It has a chromed-steel handle, so it's balance is better than the razors with an aluminum handle. I use the German-made Wilkinson Sword Classic double-edged blades. Of course, Germany is in the process of imploding, so I may have to switch to Japanese-made blades. I use U.S.-made (in Arizona) Wet Shaving Products "Formula T" shaving soap (it incorporates tallow in the soap). They also make nice aftershave with witch hazel in many scents. I see no reason to give business to Gillette; they hate normal people. There's tons of vintage razors on Ebay. There's no need to settle for China-made trash when it comes to shaving equipment. Honest Posted by: Ciampino Hair grows from deep inside of you. By the time you hit your sixties, your hair is tired and can no longer make it all the way to the top. THAT'S why it starts coming out of your ears, nose & face. Notice even when you are 90, you still have to shave. Posted by: rickb223 at January 12, 2025 03:49 PM (mxo3Z) 286

Posted by: Retired Buckeye Cop is now an engineer at January 12, 2025 03:32 PM (pJWtt) I've noticed that lefties in my social circle are very passionate about the need for *other people* to give more to help others. One of those lefties actually donates quite a bit of her labor and wealth to help others. I've discovered that the reason she doesn't think others are doing their part is because other people don't constantly draw attention to their charitable acts, like she does, so she assumes they aren't performing any. Yeah. But that's not how most people think. Or feel - the more accurate word is feel. People who cash out every few years, because they built a mansion on the Gulf, feel the same way. No different than those that still live in New Orleans. You're below sea level, dumb asses. Move. We'll end up doing what we always do. Pull cash from the SouthEast and MidWest to subsidize, in this case, California. Next time, it'll be the NorthEast again. Posted by: Whatever at January 12, 2025 03:53 PM (jGC7V) 293

Posted by: Emmie at January 12, 2025 03:50 PM (Sf2cq) To be fair, she's not wrong. Sometimes, word has to get out that someone is giving so others know it's possible - people sometimes just assume if no one is asking, then they don't need any help. My son's new youth groups this year being a prime example. Poor new leader started with almost no help and direction, and as meetings have happened, help and money (and further attendance) has been building as kids go home and tell their parents and other friends what they had/did and who was there... One defensive Dem was telling a Repub a few weeks ago that most Dems on the ground don't give a damn about "this bathroom business."
Bullshit. Because if "it didn't matter" ? Then they'd let me have my way and cocks would piss in one room, and pussies on the other. It matters to them. "Its not a big deal" is a classic debate tactic. Mostly practices by women everywhere. If it's not a big deal ? Just give me my way and we'll move on. Posted by: Whatever ==== Dead on the "no big deal" comeback. Use it myself and it becomes a major fricken deal then. What is astounding is the number of people who cannot comprehend why those who claim its "no big deal" won't just let it go then. Apprently "no big deal" is a solid arguement that the "no big deal" should always get it their way vs. those who say it is a big fricken deal. I know of no cases of bleeding to death from shaving, but there have been cases of fatal infection. In the 1915, there was a mini-epidemic of anthrax due to a contaminated shaving brush used by a barber. See: Elworthy, R., 1916. AN OUTBREAK OF ANTHRAX CONVEYED BY INFECTED SHAVING BRUSHES.
