Whither Fascism?

I was vigorously, incessantly told that Trump was New Orange-Flavored Hitler and that he was a fascist who would end democracy.

At least I heard that all through the election.

Since then, I've seen Biden smiling at the once-Hitlerian Trump and his whore wife making Do-Me eyes at him.

So what gives?

Please don't tell me they were lying this whole time!

My heart just couldn't take it!

Where did all the fascism talk go?

By Byron York

WHERE DID ALL THE FASCISM TALK GO? On Monday, the journalist Glenn Greenwald asked on X, "Is there a single person in DC or media acting as if Literal Adolf Hitler is about to assume power in 2 weeks in order to end American democracy, install fascism, and create a white supremacist dictatorship? Is it possible those who said this for years never believed it?"

You can answer that for yourself. But the fact is, the Donald Trump transition is turning out to be quite ... normal. The president-elect is busy hammering out policy proposals and staffing his administration. Democrats are, of course, criticizing Trump and promising to give some of his nominees a hard time in confirmation hearings. But that is the sort of thing one always sees in transitions from one party to the other. What is absent is the kind of ugly, fevered, frenzied, over-the-top rhetoric about Trump that characterized the campaign.

Remember? Vice President Kamala Harris called Trump a fascist. The former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff called Trump a fascist. Media talkers such as Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski called Trump a fascist. Journalists and academics called Trump a fascist. (Sample headlines from the New Yorker: "What Does It Mean that Donald Trump Is a Fascist?" and the Atlantic: "Trump Is Speaking Like Hitler, Stalin, and Mussolini.") For a while, it seemed like everyone on the Left with a podcast, TV show, or X account called Trump a fascist.

Trump's rally at Madison Square Garden became the focus of nearly nonstop discussion about fascism and Nazism. In the run-up to the event, it was entirely commonplace for media commentators to compare the rally to the infamous Nazi rally held at the Garden in 1939. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the Democratic candidate Trump defeated in 2016, told CNN that Trump would be "actually reenacting the Madison Square Garden rally in 1939."

...

Maybe that is why the talk seemed to disappear so quickly after the election. When Trump won not only the electoral vote but the popular vote as well, many looked back on the fascist moment of just a week earlier and asked, "What was that all about?"

It was about defeating Trump, of course, and when it didn't work, it became an embarrassment, certainly for the most fervent fascism talkers....

Such turnabouts were why Greenwald could look around and note that nobody in Washington is acting as if all those dire predictions have come true. Instead, it's mostly business as usual. Politicians and media figures are debating whether there should be one big bill or two. Whether tariffs should apply to this or that product. What border security measure would be most effective. No one is acting as if "Literal Adolf Hitler is about to assume power in 2 weeks in order to end American democracy, install fascism, and create a white supremacist dictatorship."

This thread by Drew Holden shows the real fascist threat: constant lying and censoring by a Regime media only interested in advancing the interests of the Regime.

If you remove the built up fuel, either through controlled burns or logging, or reclaiming fallen timber, arson just can't have as much impact because there isn't as much fuel.

Man O brother.

In these cities they need regular programs to reduce fuel load -- cutting back overgrowth, clearing up any yard debris, limiting flammable growth, laws on type of roofs allowed, etc. They don't do that.

You know why Japanese gardens are so sparse? One reason is because of fire risk in Japan. It is in their culture not to allow too much fuel to accumulate. Not so for CA.

Hitler became chancellor because the other factions figured they could control him. Schleicher pushed Hitler because he figured he would fail or be controllable.

They were wrong. The Reichtag fire produced the Enabling Act and that was that.

That's what so annoying. Hitler didn't have some long, winding road to power and a slow, gradual erosion of civil liberties. Within 90 days of getting the big chair, the deal was done.

Nothing subtle about it, either. Retards who know no history acting like they do.

98 One area that historically building codes and regulations were justified was for fire protection.

If your joists are weak and the floor sags -- that is your problem and the gov. has no business making codes telling you how to build a home. If your house catches fire, that is everyone's problem since fires spread.

But in CA, they spend all their time telling you how many blacks you need to have laying tile in your home, and no time forcing people to reduce fuel load.

103 Suppose the electorate was given a choice between "path A" and "path B." With regards to, say, wildfire mitigation. ---
Libs have shown over and over that thinking is too much of a burden for them to bear. They don't want to think. They want positions to push, causes to get behind.

Calling something "racist" just steers the cattle in the direction where they can just push and not think about it.

This is not saying that every traditional or conservative wants to think, but by definition, in reverence for what is, and in their opinion "works", there is much more a guttural fidelity to the returns on the effort.

129 It's not possible to overstate how deeply rooted the fear and respect of fire is ingrained into Japanese culture. Especially for the first couple of thousand years of modern Japanese civilization, the safety of one's house and family was directly related to the fire-prevention habits of everyone else nearby, because if one house caught fire, it would spread to all houses in the area. (Until recently... until maybe 30 or 40 years ago... the vast majority of Japanese buildings were made mostly of wood.) If you made a mistake, thousands would pay, and vice-versa. Despite this ingrained caution, mass conflagrations were apparently common, so the fear was well founded.

Two nights ago it was windy in my town *in Japan* and the fire trucks were driving around reminding people to mind their stoves because of high risk of fire. They do this whenever it is windy.

The Japanese are very diligent about fire. In one city I lived in in Tokyo, the Obachans would train regularly using a fire cart in case of disaster where trucks could not get through.

Keeping a clear yard is very important in japan, and it is more than just appearance.

Maybe in Osaka it is wetter and they do not care. I don't know, Osaka-jin are all weird. But in Tokyo they clear weeds, prune trees, etc. to keep fuel load down.

Japan has a dry season. Actually, two since the summers are very dry with a rainy season (the remnants of the monsoon) in between. Not as bad as CA (I lived in San Jose area a while) but dry enough that all your plants will dry up and die. Last year no one had figs because it didn't rain for a couple months and they died on the trees. It has to be pretty dry so that trees can't find enough water.

203 That picture of the "Leadership Team" for the fire department is truly, truly sad. I know a handful of fire fighters who have been uniform in telling me how difficult it is to even *sit* for the Captain's exam. Apparently it involves studying and memorizing the "specs" for more than 35 different fire trucks (since the trucks in any force have been assembled over a couple of decades, and vary by brand, make, water capacity, hose capacity, gas mileage, etc) and a host of other very detailed topics. Its grueling to study for, and very difficult to achieve the Captain level.

Now, look at that picture again. Ask yourself whether you believe any of those 3 ever achieved the rank of Captain?

254 California does zero land management, squanders all of it's resources and does everything it can to destroy everything the state is known for. Such a beautiful environment has been DESTROYED by the left.

They vote for this continuously. It's really hard to feel sorry for them. Yes, there are conservatives there being horribly effected by this mismanagement of the environment, but the ONLY way the government learns a lesson is if a majority of the people leave. They can't get tax money from vacant lots.

321 Rant: It's not just "stuff." We only have one finite life on this planet. We spend part of our irreplaceable life accumulating stuff which makes our life easier. Starting over means one has to once again spend that which is irreplaceable to replace what one once had.

Which, by the way, is why I think doing away with restitution was evil. Why should I be expected to pay for the accommodations for a criminal and also pay to replace my stuff?

Right, because prevention has nothing whatsoever to do with geography...

324 Raymond Burr was all over late 40's early 50's movies as the villain. Made a complete break from that type cast.

Dude played a great villain, he just looks menacing and has that amazing voice. He did a ton of radio work as big time heroes before his TV career, too.

Reminds me of Gunsmoke. The voice of Marshall Dillon on the radio show (WAY better than the TV show) was William Conrad because of that amazing voice. Great job as the character. But he was big even back then and when the TV show came out they wouldn't cast him as Dillon even though he really tried.

Eh. Last time I moved about 5 years ago I threw out a fuck ton of useless shit I had accumulated during the previous 10 years I lived at the old place.

It’s almost all just “stuff”. Don’t let the thing you own, own you,

331 Why is it so hard to believe Japan takes fires seriously and it’s something California would be well advised to follow?

It doesn’t mean Japan is like California. This is a weird thing to fight about. lol.

Naturally, WE will be the ones paying for it one way or another.
