Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Donald Trump's Former Employer McDonald's Announces Walkback of DEI PracticesNot a complete abandonment, but a reduction. McDonald's is the latest US corporation -- and among the largest -- to back off some of its diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) practices, as a Supreme Court ruling against affirmative action and conservative backlash to those programs continues to lead businesses to reevaluate their diversity pledges. The company in a statement Monday said it is sunsetting its specific diversity goals, including requiring its suppliers to commit to certain DEI targets. And it will stop participating in external surveys that measure corporate diversity. McDonald's is also changing the name of its diversity team to the Global Inclusion Team -- a common practice for many other companies that have rolled back diversity pledges.Name-changing isn't going to fool us. "This name change is more fitting for McDonald's in light of our inclusion value and better aligns with this team's work," McDonald's said in the statement. But the company said it has not abandoned its mission to maintain a diverse workforce. Instead, McDonald said that it will continue to support practices that foster inclusion in the workplace and across its operations, and it will work with its suppliers and vendors to discuss diversity and inclusion practices. ... The company said its new position was driven by a recent Supreme Court ruling against affirmative action and other corporations reevaluating their diversity initiatives. Online pressure, legal threats and customer opposition have led many companies, including Walmart, Ford, Harley-Davidson, John Deere and others to make changes to their DEI initiatives. But some observers say that many high-profile corporate moves on DEI aren't as large a change as they might seem. "DEI isn't going away. It's just changing," J. Danielle Carr, chief officer of inclusion at Lowenstein Sandler and president of the Association of Law Firm Diversity Professionals, told CNN in December. The organization found that just 14 of the Fortune 500 companies made any public changes to their DEI teams or programs in 2024.Costco remains all-in on DEI: Meanwhile, Costco recently acknowledged that the benefits of its DEI policies proved too rewarding to back down, despite backlash from activist shareholders aiming to end the company's ambitions."Too rewarding." We should change that calculation. Supposedly, Larry Fink of BlackRock, which controls corporations by controlling massive retirement funds invested in those companies, is considering walking back his woke company's commitment to "Net Zero" carbon emissions. Charles GasparinoElections have consequences. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Blackrock is having second thoughts about NetZero because of Texas and Ken Paxton. From the news release on Nov. 27:
"Attorney General Ken Paxton sued BlackRock, State Street Corporation, and Vanguard Group, three of the largest institutional investors in the world, for conspiring to artificially constrict the market for coal through anticompetitive trade practices. ... Blackrock, Vanguard, and State Street utilized the Climate Action 100 and the Net Zero Asset Managers Initiative to signal their mutual intent to reduce the output of thermal coal, which predictably increased the cost of electricity for Americans across the United States. These firms also deceived thousands of investors who elected to invest in non-ESG funds to maximize their profits. Yet these funds pursued ESG strategies notwithstanding the defendants’ representations to the contrary. " Posted by: Tom Servo at January 07, 2025 03:09 PM (wyMQY) 195

More on Paxton's lawsuit against Blackrock:
"Over several years, the three asset managers acquired substantial stockholdings in every significant publicly held coal producer in the United States, thereby gaining the power to control the policies of the coal companies. Using their combined influence over the coal market, the investment cartel collectively announced in 2021 their commitment to weaponize their shares to pressure the coal companies to accommodate “green energy” goals. To achieve this, the investment companies pushed to reduce coal output by more than half by 2030. Deliberately and artificially constricting supply increased prices and enabled the investment companies to produce extraordinary revenue gains. This conspiracy violated multiple federal laws that prevent a major shareholder, or a group of shareholders, from using their shares to lessen competition or engaging in other anticompetitive schemes. Further, the companies broke Texas antitrust and deceptive trade practices laws. " Posted by: Tom Servo at January 07, 2025 03:11 PM (wyMQY) 209

I used to use canola oil in a lot of things, but have largely switched to olive oil and avocado oil for things that require higher T.
Posted by: Archimedes ----- Some evidence now that grain based oils like Canola are inflammatory to the system compared with fruit type oils like olive oil and mebbe avocado and grapeseed oil. Dunno about flaxseed oil. I dislike cooking with corn oil or canola--canola gives a bitter taste to me on fried foods and never cared for corn oil. Individual food franchises can produce extraordinary results. There's a Kentucky Fried Chicken off I-69 near Mammoth Caves that serves the original recipe, for example. FWIW, Waffle House, and its lesser cousin Huddle House, are both diner style chains that use a griddle to do their cooking and thus it is NOT low fat style cooking or one for people with particular fine dining tastes. Want a waffle, hot coffee, breakfast, or a burger, it can do it. Go somewhere else if you want ethnic specialties or dislike grease.
Often though, they are affordable, open, and apart from the stupid You Tube videos, relatively safe places to pull off the road during travel. Late at night and near major urban areas, you get a rougher clientele sometimes looking for a fight. Posted by: whig at January 07, 2025 03:23 PM (ctrM5) 266

If securing Greenland through a fair deal between us and Denmark is possible, why not?
Because a "fair deal" has already been offered, by every private party interested in these so-called "mineral rights". And Denmark has declined. So, by definition, any deal offered by God Emperor Trump will have to be above that asking price. Above market value. Or he - and thus we - simply invade or use gun-boat diplomacy. Both of which will be far, far more expensive than market price. A bad idea doesn't become a good idea simply because its Donald Trump's idea. Posted by: LizLem at January 07, 2025 03:19 PM (gWBY1) Well according to China AND the US, we have agreed that China and Taiwan are part of the same country decades ago. This undercuts any justification for trying to break them apart now. There's plenty China can do to make Taiwan's life difficult short of war and much of Taiwan's trade goes to China. Even back in WWII it was obvious that having the North Atlantic covered by weak powers was unsupportable. Even before the US entered the war the US had taken over defense of Canada on the East Coast and West Coast. We grabbed bases in Iceland and Greenland I think too. The Danes can't defend that area, they've abdicated their independence to the EU. Posted by: Oldcat at January 07, 2025 04:18 PM (n7h9X) 289
