Why are the liberals so badly viewed? I have a former coworker who is really progressive who just told me she’s voting for Pollivre because “Trudeau has really messed things up” but wouldn’t go into detail.

Reportedly, what pushed Trudeau to this decision was a clear majority of Liberals saying behind the scenes that they wanted him out.
It's not a guarantee that they would have supported the Conservatives' no-confidence vote had it been brought up in Parliament, but it's certainly not impossible, especially if Trudeau had refused to budge.

I kind of vacillate on this question myself but I do wonder what percentage of liberals know they're just pushing a narrative and what percentage believe the narrative.
From my anecdotal experience, pretty much all of the smart / well educated liberals I know know that they are pushing a narrative to "counter misinformation" or whatever.
As in, they think they are in on the lie / exaggeration, with a wink and a nod. Like "obviously raising taxes on corporations is a pass through tax to consumers, but we need to show the people we're on their side, or they'll get pissed at us"
(I'm talking about actual liberals, not the LIVs, who I am firmly convinced make up 90% of democrat voters and who literally have no idea about what's going on in the world around them. Not necessarily stupid people, but the kind of get "the news" from a 10 minute NPR broadcast / podcast)

The little bit I've read about this is that the French-Canadians, being colonists in a new land and desperate to preserve their identity, tried to freeze their language in place and modify it as little as possible, so that the dialect lost touch with the evolution of Metropolitan French. So in some ways it's closer to what French was like in the 17th-18th centuries.
A close parallel would be how Afrikaans is Dutch, but an antiquated form of Dutch.

Yeah, well it makes sense. They don't really understand how the government works, or why things are they way they are, have very little grasp of history or politics or anything else. Just "well, what are you going to do for me today?"
This is by design, incidentally.
So when a court strikes down, say, Biden unilaterally forgiving billions of dollars in student loans, the LIVs read a headline that says "Trump judge strikes down Biden's plan to forgive student loans" and they say "well, I don't like this Trump feller or his judges. Granted, our population is much larger. But also, granted, our legal population is now 15% foreign born. And their kids aren't counted in that statistic. So I think it's safe to say 20-25% of the people legally in this country are either immigrants or recently born children of those immigrants.
Plus the illegals, which... God knows how many of those are here.
So it's very possible that 30-40% of the people in this country right now are either foreign born or recently born kids of foreign nationals.

From the portion of his announcement and the CTV after-commentary I saw, it appears he did not actually resign as either, but just announced his intention to, after a "transparent and open" process to select a successor!
Maybe his party leaders need to tell him to STFU, because once Parliament reconvenes, there will be a vote of no confidence, and he will be out on his ass and a new election will follow in short order.
It took several minutes, but one of the CTV ladies finally mentioned how Trudeau was pulling a Biden, refusing to leave until long after he had overstayed his usefulness, and putting his party in a tight spot! Of course, that's a "feature" of the Parliamentary system!
And like Biden, he clearly thinks that he is God's gift to the party, and is only leaving because he's being forced out!
