28 Actually fd most inaugural events are privately financed (that's what the inaugural fund, and the big donations to it, are all about - and a separate issue really but that's been a rather brazen "appearance of corruption" festival for decades now).

Of course there are associated security costs that are public burden.

But it's more the symbolism I was thinking of. Rarely has the country needed more urgent, and extensive, serious work to be done. Jumping right in to it would be very Trump-ish, and I think set a good tone for the portion of the electorate with two neurons to rub together.

Dogs love to chase. The AKC has what's called a Fast CAT (Coursing Aptitude Test), which is a plastic bag tied to a mechanically-driven string on a straight-line 100 yard course.

While sighthounds look natural chasing a lure, seeing a Corgi bouncing along like a demented bunny is both charming and comical.

Had to jettison State Farm. They cancelled our car insurance because our idiot son (who is an adult, by the way) drove like an ass. 30+ years of premiums but one stupid move and they cancelled us. They thought we would continue to insure our house, etc. They were wrong. Jake can bite my ass.

Do check out the Moon again tonight, and over the next few days after sunset. It's getting close to Venus which is bright as a mo-fo now, and getting brighter. Jan 2025 is Venus Evening Star show.

Saturn is right there above Venus as well, and over the next couple of days the Moon will move close to each in turn.

And, on the 13th, we get an occultation of Mars by the Moon, which will be visible all over the US. Those right on the west coast of California will miss the start, as the Moon will just be rising, but they will see Mars emerge from behind.

First time, plus first time with this dutch oven, so some learning curve too, on cooking time. Ya wanna *just* get the beef tender, no more, and a lot of reduction in the liquid to where it's like a glaze.

162 Again dunno the carb implications ace, but Better Than Bouillon beef base (or chicken, or veggie) is my favorite for adding depth and flavor. Also logistically friendly (small jar in the fridge, very concentrated).

Also for adding depth, depending on the dish, marsala wine (for chicken), reds for beef. A lot of my versions of recipes sub in bacon fat for the initial saute portions, which seems to help. The classic bourguignon recipes all seem to start with bacon.

184 In lighter news, IAF pounding the bejeesus out of another mil-industrial site in Syria. Gaza's complicated, but have to say the Lebanon and Syria portions of the recent festivities have been conducted about as closely to my preferences as any dust-up in recent times. Have always liked a "rolling cease-fire", and current Lebanon ops set a new standard.

It seems like a total setup and there needs to be more explanation of how the media was given this much access so quickly
