Howdy Hordelings, and welcome to the fifth and final Sunday of December. Thanks for stopping by. You have a lot of options when it comes to where to spend your time. The fact that you chose to be here says, well, umm... Anyway - glad you're here!
Jimmy Carter 1924 - 2024
Jimmy Carter, 39th president of the United States, dead at 100
Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States and a former peanut farmer whose vision of a "competent and compassionate" government propelled him into the White House, died on Sunday, according to local media. He was 100. The news was announced by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Sunday. Carter's death follows the passing of his wife Rosalynn on Nov. 19, 2023 at the age of 96 with her family by her side at the Carter home in Plains, Georgia, just days after she had been admitted to hospice care. The late former president himself had entered hospice care in February 2023. Carter survived for years after he had a "small mass" removed from his liver in early August 2015 and later that month announced he had liver cancer that had spread throughout his body.
Although I was just a young Doof in elementary school, I did live through the Carter years and do remember them. It was not a prosperous time in America. Former / future President Trump has nicer words than any I care to muster up.

To celebrate the holiday season, Sky Elements provided some happy drone news by creating the largest swarming light show ever to have flown in the United States. Set to music, the light show created massive motion-filled scenes that captured the spirit of the holidays—a Thanksgiving turkey, a winter wonderland scene, a gingerbread village, and, of course, Santa’s sleigh with reindeer. Making the holiday a little more magical in Mansfield, Texas, 4,981 drones lit up the sky to ring in the season.

Twas the week before Christmas, and perched on the tree was an magical visitor as wise as can be… It came down the chimney, but wasn’t named Santa, a majestic barred owl dropped in unexpected. Savannah Burgoyne was at home with her young children in Arlington, Virginia, when she first saw the bird fly through her living room and land atop the tree—and a finer tree topper you’ll never find.
The ONT would like to note that both of these occurrences took place within reasonable distance of widely attended annual MoMe events. Draw your own conclusions.

The hawks had to fight some owls for the two turtle doves when I hurled them out the back door.
I may have to move the truck out of the garage. Four pear trees and a mess, literally, of partridges.
Anticipating what's next, I'm negotiating to repurchase the farm I sold last Spring.

I had hoped my true love would give me the gift of some jewelry I could hawk to pay for things, but instead I received five ring-necked pheasants.
Heck with it. Pheasants, blackbirds, hens, doves, partridges, they're all tossed into the yard where a growing number of raptors and owls have gathered.

I recently paid for something using a handful of dollar coins. Mostly the US President ones, but mixed in was a Susan B. Anthony coin. The young guy behind the counter didn't recognize the SBA coin. Hah! How could an owl, even a smallish one, "fly" down a chimney? I think hummingbirds are about the only birds small enough to maneuver in the confines of a typical fireplace chimney. AOS was not even around in the late 70's. Though some of us "mature" posters lived through that time. He (Jimma) was in fact, one of the worst Presidents in modern times to hold office. Sure, there would be Presidents that seemed to want to steal his mantel of "The Worst" going forward but Carter did some pretty abysmal moves during his tenure and put this Republic through some very painful times. But, we as a country did survive his time in office.
So, lets just put him in the ground...and move on to 2025 and better days.

I read the Wiki article on the sea level canal. As recently as November of this year, president Daniel Ortega was seeking Chinese and American investment money to build a sea level canal. The 1993 concession with China has expired because the Chinese principal has disappeared, LOL. I would not be surprised to see Ortega meet with DJT in furtherance of that project sometime in 2025.
