A lot more weight than usual.

Al directed me down some back country road. I'm going, something appears in the middle of the road but I'm responsible for 6 lives. I tried to slow down. Bit big thud.

Kept driving. Feeling horrible when a SECOND animal darted in front of me. Thud. Oh crap.

Those are the unofficial names as those two have statues of said animals outside the prisons. But they have some sort of long Russian name ending in 'Penal Colony No. 4', or whatever the number. If you can't twirl then you have options:
1. suck the pasta, one strand at a time. Beware of the final whiplash. If Bolognese then wear a towel.
2. Have someone kill the pasta. This is often done with a fork and knife. Often practiced by heathens from English-speaking zones, never observed in the native areas of Italy. (it would be a stoning offense). Cut into short pieces and then ask for a spoon.
3. Don't eat long pasta.

No plastic bags here in NY. Five or ten cents if you need one at the grocery store. So in the age of a "Pandemic", we had to carry our own bags from home into a store and reuse them, over and over. While wearing a mask (that most used beyond their 'discard by' date). Crazy world. Can only hope there's a serious lurch toward sanity come January 20th.

I recall once being out on Lake Burton in N. Georgia, on a pontoon boat with four or five others. While we were out on the lake an A-6 made a very low level pass down the center of the lake. I later surmised that it was a practice run on the dam. What I remember the most is the people on the boat standing, pumping their fists, and cheering.

In a restaurant, I sat across the table from three Chinese graduate students and a visiting Chinese professor. They had all obtained pizza slices from the buffet. The Chinese professor hefted his pizza slice on the end of a fork, holding it horizontally, resembling the letter T, and began nibbling at the edge. The graduate students looked back and forth at each other for a moment, and all elevated their pizza slices and began eating them the same way. They had achieved intellectual consensus, free of contaminating information or opinions from any roundeyes at the table.

Here is one story of valor you've probably never heard of, that of A-6 BN and POW of the Hanoi Hilton Mike Christian.

Leo K. Thorsness would tell this story. Mike set about and created from a filthy handkerchief an American flag. When the guards finally found it, they beat Mike severely.

256 We watched it, after reading the play, in our English Lit class in Junior High. I'm still not sure of the legality of showing 17-year-old boobs to 15-year-old kids, even if they're only on-screen for half a second. I am sure that we all enjoyed that half-second, though. Romeo showed off his nekkid butt for the girls in the class, too, so it was fair.

I mentioned above I went as a Catholic grade school field trip to see the movie, like some Tuesday or Wednesday early afternoon. Our chaperones were our teachers in full habit. I guess the movie got such good reviews at the time as real Shakespearean art that even the nuns put up with a little T & A as it was tastefully done. And it was Shakespeare. The movie is beautiful, though. Zeffirelli did a great job.

262 216 Kind of a semi-serious question: Since sporks are made of plastic, are they illegal now in some parts of the country? Like real gas cans are illegal in CA. Lefty states have some crazy laws. No plastic bags here in NY. Five or ten cents if you need one at the grocery store. So in the age of a "Pandemic", we had to carry our own bags from home

. Can only hope there's a serious lurch toward sanity come January 20th.
Posted by: RickZ at December 27, 2024 11:16 PM (gKDq2)

We've had no plastic bags for a while now. But only grocery stores. Fast food and hardware store plastic bags are ok for some reason.

Not optimistic here in Calif. Word on the street is no more Class A or C motorhomes after the first because there isn't a zero-emission truck platform available to build on so can't meet mandated 7% zero-emission sales quota.

Also gas prices to go up another 70c to a buck more due to higher taxes and new, more complicated refining method required.

Oh - and Phillips 66 closed major refinery because can't meet new mandated on-site storage capacity. And we can't import gas - not refined properly.

The state of New York will charge carbon-emitting companies an estimated $75 billion in climate damage they allegedly caused between 2000 and 2018 under a law enacted on Dec. 26.

Adopted by lawmakers in June, the law—which goes into effect in 2028—will annually assess large companies’ carbon emissions across those first 19 years of the 21st century to “repair damage caused by extreme weather” they said aggravated by greenhouse gas emissions.

The bill estimates compliance will cost about three dozen of the state’s largest carbon-emitting companies about $3 billion collectively each year for the next 25 years—$75 billion in total. That would be 15 percent of the $500 billion the Fiscal Policy Institute estimates the law could actually end up costing by 2050.

392 Florida pizza delivery woman stabbed a pregnant customer 14 times over bad tip, authorities say
The woman who ordered the Marco's pizza had tipped $2. She discovered she was pregnant while she was being treated for stab wounds at the hospital, court documents said.

Alvelo delivered the pizza, which cost about $33, and was asked to give change for a $50 bill, the affidavit said. But Alvelo did not have change, and the woman searched for smaller bills, giving Alvelo only a $2 tip in the end, authorities said.

The woman said that sometime later, she heard a loud knocking on the door, the affidavit said. A man and a woman clad in all black wearing masks forced themselves into the room when she opened the door, it said.

Last time I attempted to order pizza for delivery, they spent 5 minutes trying to upsell a bunch of crap I didn't want, then had a minimum on delivery orders --I only wanted *a pizza* which didn't qualify.

Wrap it in cheesecloth and let it sit in the fridge for 7 days. Remove from fridge, peel off the cheesecloth, and hit it with a heavy dry brine (salt). Let it sit to come up to room temp for at least an hour. Insert your probe thermometer into the heart of the roast. Sprinkle with any other spices you like (I just added pepper), and put it in a cold oven, setting the temp to 250. When the probe temp reaches 118, pull the roast, wrap it in foil, and let it rest for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, crank the oven to 550. Remove the foil, put the roast back in the oven for a 10-15 minute sear. Slice away the bones, then just carve it into thick, juicy "prime" rib steaks. Enjoy.
