This is a story about how brokebrain #Resistance progressives are no longer watching propaganda channels CNN and MSNBC, because they feel burnt out, and they probably feel like those propaganda channels lied to them about the likely outcome of the election.

NEW YORK (AP) -- As a Democrat who immersed himself in political news during the presidential campaign, Ziad Aunallah has much in common with many Americans since the election. He's tuned out. "People are mentally exhausted," said Aunallah, 45, of San Diego. "Everyone knows what is coming and we are just taking some time off."
Oh! You don't say.
Television ratings -- and now a new poll -- clearly illustrate the phenomenon. About two-thirds of American adults say they have recently felt the need to limit media consumption about politics and government because of overload, according to the survey from the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. Smaller percentages of Americans are limiting their intake of news about overseas conflicts, the economy or climate change, the poll says. Politics stand out. Election news on CNN and MSNBC was taking up too much of Sam Gude's time before the election, said the 47-year-old electrician from Lincoln, Nebraska. "The last thing I want to watch right now is the interregnum," said Gude, a Democrat and no fan of President-elect Donald Trump. Poll finds more Democrats than Republicans stepping away from news
Here now, the ratings crash:
The poll, conducted in early December, found that about 7 in 10 Democrats say they are stepping back from political news. The percentage isn't as high for Republicans, who have reason to celebrate Trump's victory. Still, about 6 in 10 Republicans say they've felt the need to take some time off too, and the share for independents is similar. The differences are far starker for the TV networks that have been consumed by political news.
AP admits, casually, that MSNBC's audience consists of little but "Trump haters," but apparently doesn't think AP itself has any bias.
After election night through Dec. 13, the prime-time viewership of MSNBC was an average of 620,000, down 54% from the pre-election audience this year, the Nielsen company said. For the same time comparison, CNN's average of 405,000 viewers was down 45%. At Fox News Channel, a favorite news network for Trump fans, the post-election average of 2.68 million viewers is up 13%, Nielsen said. Since the election, 72% of the people watching one of those three cable networks in the evening were watching Fox News, compared to 53% prior to election day.

Some of the Americans who have turned away from political news lately also had some advice for getting them engaged again. Gude said, for example, that MSNBC will always have a hard-core audience of Trump haters. But if the network wants to expand its audience, "then you have to talk about issues, and you have to stop talking about Trump." Kathleen Kendrick, a 36-year-old sales rep from Grand Junction, Colorado, who's a registered independent voter, said she hears plenty of people loudly spouting off about their political opinions on the job. She wants more depth when she watches the news. Much of what she sees is one-sided and shallow, she said. "You get a story but only part of a story," Kendrick said. "It would be nice if you could get both sides, and more research."
Speaking of YouTube, WDW_Pro says that Megan Kelly's 109 million monthly views are greater than the monthly views of CNN or MSNBC. On YouTube, that is. Not the same as ratings but an important comparison. A new report says that two very detestable people detest each other. Good, I'm glad. I don't want to do all the work for them. The poll indicates that Americans want less talk about politics from public figures in general. After an election season where endorsements from celebrities like Taylor Swift made headlines, the survey found that Americans are more likely to disapprove than approve of celebrities, large companies and professional athletes speaking out about politics.
Still, Gude is among those discovering other ways to get news to which he does want to pay attention, including on YouTube.

In 2024 †, the average rent price increased 5.57%; hourly wages increased 3.48%. Also in 2024, the price of homes for sale increased 6.26% while the average cost of all consumer items increased 3.22%. 2023 had the largest annual rent increase (7.95%)
So, 13.5% increase in Rent over two years... think that just 'might' have a little impact on homelessness?

Let's see...we were i our home for 3 years, married for 6. I went out and took a slew of pictures with my 35mm Minolta of the drifts and barely plowed roads. Never lost power, but because of my parents' OCD about being prepared (and passed on to their son), we had plenty of food. And heat. In fact, we had two big storms at that time back to back, one week apart. The industrial size snowblower we had back then got a real workout! Ahhh, fun times.

Little appreciated fact.
After the Great Migration North, many northern cities switched to the Curley model. Instead of relying on industry, ports, finance, etc. as a tax base, they relied on social welfare clients.
So their priorities changed. They were no longer working for the productive class, but working for the unproductive class and their state and federally paid managers (teachers, social workers, criminal justice,...)
This is why they all started voting in Dems, and why the Obama/Covid/Biden bailouts of sending them billions in federal money was so destructive. They profit from the decay so of course they encourage it.

My folks had an IH Scout, one of the original 'utility' vehicles. And a generator. And snowmobiles... Without power for at least three days, maybe a week. Home heat was a gas fired boiler.... so, meh, wasn't so bad.

I had to deal with the 1998 Ice Storm that hit northern New England and parts of Canada. Where I lived, we got five ice storm events in 3 days resulting in 4 inches of pure ice. Needless to say, trees snapped, wires snapped, everything snapped. No electricity for 3 weeks in northern New Hampshire is not recommended. I had a wood stove for heat, but many people did not. And In January, you're lucky if the temp goes over 25 F. during the day. So, yeah, screw blizzards, ice storms are worse IMO.

When I was a kid my parents had friends with a cabin on a lake in the Adirondacks. Typical mountain lake where the land went up from the lake at fairly steep angle.
The whole place ran off a generator and it had an old wood cooking stove. There was a bunk room over the kitchen with a ladder and a trapdoor to go between the bunk room and the kitchen. But in the winter the only way to get into the place was to go through an exterior door into the bunk room because the snow was usually too high to through the downstairs doors.
The only heat was from the wood cooking stove which put off a ton of heat when you cranked it.

I think it's to set the mood, like playing music in the background. It's why some comedies are filmed in front of a live audience. Works better at home if you feel like you are "with" the crowd.

Saw "Nosferatu" yesterday.
It was pretty good. Not great and not particularly scary. Mostly hurt by being too long. It could have easily been cut by 20-30 minutes.
Hard to read people's minds but, I guess "Nosferatu" was Eggar's feminist reply to his own movie, "The Witch".
In both movies a young, pre-teen(?) woman was targeted by a malevolent, male(?) entity.
In "The Witch", the woman succumbs to Satan in exchange for supernatural powers and is damned forever.
Spoiler - more or less but, you know, the story is like a hundred years old...anywho...
In "Nosferatu", the pre-teen already has supernatural, girl boss powers and is targeted by a vampire, Count Orlock. In order to save, her husband and the city she uses her power to sacrifice herself to the vampire and saves everyone.
BONUS!: The heroine rants and screams just like our modern day real-life woke heroine at your local mall.
At one point, she even dyes her hair blue!!!!! 🤪

We are social creatures. We laugh when others laugh. Theater often works because of the audience, and with TV it was just a bunch of people sitting at home and it didn't work without the audience laughing.
Studio audiences cost more, and they require a different set-up for filming and production. It is also less forgiving for errors or edits. Modern shows seem to have found a new way to connect with the viewer without the social aspect. Or maybe the viewers are changing. I don't know but back in the day I think laughtracks served a purpose but you all are right that they really stink if the jokes aren't laugh-worthy in the first place.

Yea, I don't have as much use for winter as I did when I was young. But that place was fantastic. Very remote, the only way to get to your cabin or to the general store at the head of the lake or the kids clubhouse was by boat. No cars. No telephone. No TV.
There was an old wooden boat with a small outboard for the kids and I was all over that lake.
Much simpler time back then.

I know a lot of the tent cities, these are not pup tents, they are often large, have electricity, and while you wouldn't want to be a woman living there, because you'll get raped, if you are a young man you can be heated all winter, and play video games all day long.
