She had the outside seat.
There was still traffic in the aisle as people got on and standing next to her was a guy with a full to the brim cup of coffee*. He couldn't move forward to his seat because someone further down was slowly putting his luggage above.
And then a person behind coffee guy decided to put his bag in the overhead and because he wasn't paying enough attention, banged heavily into coffee guy who then spilled his coffee all over my GF and her white pants.
I give the stewardess credit she ran and grabbed paper towels and stuff but it was a pretty shitty way to start a flight.
*why the hell would you bring that on a plane? Its going to spill if there is a rough takeoff/any turbulence

Dad has been in the hospital and rehab since Sept 16. He is now in a nice place which happens to be run by a lady that used to date the owner of the rural bar he used to frequent. She is looking out for him, a great relief as I can't be there due to Jules.
Her recovery is remarkable. After surgery for a perforated ulcer, which caused severe septic shock, they said the next 48-72 hrs will tell whether she lives or dies. After 49 days in the hospital she went to rehab yesterday!

I give him some credit for trying to understand Trump/populism in more depth then just screaming Hitler over and over. And the video gets off to a bad start when he discusses radio and Father Coughlin.
But he pretty quickly gets to his point which is that populism takes off when a new form of media is developed, and he actually spends more of his time discussing the printing press and Martin Luther. Basically, the problem is that populism is a way too broad a brush that tears down institutions that maybe need reforming but where the destruction is worse then the corruption that predated it, and he clearly takes this back then to Trump and our current round of populism.
And two things scream out right away.
1) Why is it Luther...or Trump's...fault if the elites fail to heed calls for reform and not those same elites? Nominally those elites, if they do care about the supposed society they are guiding should be at least as concerned as Luther or Trump...no?

I have to share this with you. As mentioned above Dad in a facility run by a friend of his. He signed up for hospice 2 weeks ago.
He's in some pain due to the 4 stage bedsore that lead to septic shock, which led to septic arthritis in his joints. (All before he got to this place.)
She said he was allowed his bourbon and seems to prefer it to the small doses of morphine. Go figure.

A friend of mine, in a discussion on this, pointed out that these elites didn't care about the corruption and abuse they were causing because it largely didn't effect them. For example COVID gave the bureaucracy work from home and the oligarchs an excuse to ban normies from their haunts.
But now the Trump reform looks like it will potentially have major impacts on their lives and so *now* we should all be concerned.

I think the confusion is between "Populism" which is mass action to empower to the people, and "majoritarianism" which is a bastard Rothbardism term but denotes a mass movement to justify the action of a central government.
I have to put a lot of thinking and research into this, but the main difference is between a large population saying they are OK with paying ambulance and fire department fees but the whole CO2 fee structure is not getting paid . . . And a warlord declaring that 51% of his followers think anything he does is OK and he will increase that percentage by lopping off the heads of anyone who disagrees, and that is totes cool because 51%

I'm pretty sure it was the clot shot that killed my cousin a few weeks ago, just dropping dead on Friday the 13th with a sudden cardiac arrest event.

There was a kerfuffle in my town a while back when one guy set up a camera on his property pointing to a neighbor's swimming pool, the theory being he did it to see his comely young neighbor in her bathing suit.
TBH I don't remember what the final resolution was though I'll be honest I laughed at most of the people arguing about it...
Also, even though we live in a world where it is perfectly believable that a man will risk public damnation for peeping at woman in her bathsuit it is obviously insane to believe some young men might claim to be women primarily to peep at women in the locker room.

We were talking about the Richter scale, which is logarithmic, as you said. +1 = x10.
Hurricane wind categories are approximately linear. 74mph gets you out of "tropical storm" and into "category 1." Categories 2-5 are 96, 111, 130, and 157+mph.
And the enhanced Fujita scale for tornadoes, categories 0-5, are wind speeds of 65, 86, 111, 136, 166, and 200+mph.

What really gripes me about that is that the Left, which virtually deifies Charles Darwin, ignores the fact that while he was in the South Pacific, he also wrote a book on South Sea atolls, and observed that because they were made of living coral, they would always adjust themselves up or down to whatever current sea level was. In other words , this”surprising discovery” was described perfectly by Darwin over 170 years ago.

That was worded very sloppy, and the author who wrote that skins his ignorance.
But yep, the ideal free surface of water on the Erf would be lumpy, due to the lumpiness of the mass distribution (deviation from nice spherical or other smooth symmetry). The "sea level" surface would be a "geoid", or a surface of constant gravitational (and centrifugal) potential.
And it would be lumpy. They also define reference "ellipsoids" which are smooth surface approximation of the surface, or levels of the Erf. You can then talk about the difference between the geoid and the ellipsoid at some point.
It's a complicated mess, but yep, sea level would be lumpy relative to a refernence ellipsoid.

It's the geoid and the geopotential surface that determines local level and plumb. And it will deviate a bit from the geometic level and normal (terms of an ellipsoid, or even a spherical approximation, which is a good first approximation).
It was until satellites where the local 'g' could be measured to high precision that the earth's lumpy gravity was mapped out.
Turned out this was responsible for an error in the definition of the prime meridian back in the day. They set the transit at the Royal Observatory to true plumb/vertical to amazing precision. But that deviated from a radius passing through the center of the earth by a smidge.
The result was the actual prime meridian was about 100 yards or so to the east of where they thought.
Both lines are marked there now, I think.

I have to agree that it's definitely warmer in some areas. I don't live where I grew up but I know they do not have the winters I had as a young 'un. Regular 6 to 8 inch snows. A few nor'easter blizzards. Now dustings or a blizzard. All or nothing. Even in NYC, we don't get the snows now we got in the early '80s. 3 to 4 inch snows were common, often not melting right away. Now we hadly get snow and if we do, it's a double digit nor'easter blizzard. All or nothing.
As a non-weather guy, it seems like we don't get the powdery snow from the west as much, but a more moisture-laden southern storm/blizzard, with heavy snow. That's a pattern I noticed about two decades ago, more southern snow, not western snow. Whatever that means.

That fits in with the pattern. The 70's, plus or minus a bit, was an unusually cold period. That's why the Warmists always start there to show the warming trend, rather than, say, the Dust Bowl years.
"Now" is warmer than what we all remember from our younger days, but "now" is really more typical of the weather of the last century.

I don't know. WWII was pretty cold in Europe, colder than today. I've read there was a Little Ice Age that ended around 1970 (from about 1400). In that Ice Age were events like the 1850's London Winter Festival on a frozen Thames. Also Napoleon's retreat from Russia and Hitler's as well.

I really don't eat raw veggies anymore. I'm immuno-compromised (well, and currently on low-fiber diet until sewn back together guts can handle fiber again), so I have to be really careful.

Some are good. And most domestic engineers also suck. And there is a shortage of skilled American programmers.
But mostly we’re just importing mediocre engineers for less pay because there’s also a shortage of mediocre engineers.
The system is broken. I’m all for strong economy but anyone who prioritizes “line go up” GDP over quality of life and quality engineering is wrong. Many of the H1Bs I’ve worked with are great humans, but they still have no right to be here. America for Americans only.

1. Yes, a lot of blatant racism from conservative commenters sure did pop up in many places when the H1B discussion began.
2. Define "a bunch of them." Do you doubt that the US is currently behind in upper level engineering? We all know what "Ivy League" universities have been vomiting out for the last 20-40 years. There is a dire need for the brightest of people to come on board and help US companies excel. And it's not only about companies. It's very much about military technologies. Be careful what you don't ask for.
3. Trump and Musk are no more or less "mad" at those who disagree than those who disagree are "mad" at Trump and Musk. In fact, it's from that latter that the racist remarks are boiling to the surface.
Try reading all of Musk's comments together and think exactly what's in his total view of totally revamping the H1B program that's to the detriment of the US economy and excellence.

That's a pity. The solution isn't more racism. The solution is a moral America, intolerant of those who don't tolerate that. It makes no difference whether America adds to its best and brightest from Scandinavia or from Asia. In certain areas, America needs selective help to regain its dominance.
BTW, discrimination against whites goes much further back than 20 years. I remember it when I entered the US work force in the 80s. It's merit that counts, not skin color or culture.

Don't think I would ever call a country racist over their visa program, nevermind a narrow sub-set of a country's visa program or policy.
Seems suspect that anyone would get fired up over this program.
This is not Operation Paperclip.
Getting the objectively best and brightest by hoovering up anyone and everyone probably serves poorer country diploma mills more than it benefits the USA.
