Solid Gold Open Thread

Here's the debut episode of Solid Gold from 1980 featuring the Solid Gold dancers and plenty of Solid Gold cameltoe.

I provided cameltoe for the menfolk so it's only fair I give something to the ladies.

So, ladies, here's legendary heartthrob Liberace singing "Feelin' Groovy."

No just kidding, here is what all ladies love, sexy sexy men playing the sexy sport of golf.

No, just kidding, here's Tom Selleck in one of the greatest Magnum Moments.

It's entirely talent-based. No one cared about race, they were past that. It was best of the best, all the time.

I watched an episode of a 50s or early 60s police TV show Naked City, a few days ago. At the end the bank robber trades shots with police in the bank. Bank robber is wounded and staggers against the row of teller's stations. Police rush towards him firing like crazy. Robber falls to the floor then his gun or something emits several small, ignited flare-like objects. The cop-actors start dancing around to avoid them; one tries to stomp on one to put it out but misses. The pyro items quickly go out and action as-scripted resumes. The cop-actors were real pros. This all occurs in about two seconds. Hilarious. I suppose a re-shoot (pun intended here) was going to be more than the remaining budget.

FWIW, there was a factual error on page 2 regarding the history of US courts. The Articles of Confed government did actually have specialized federal courts for admiralty, etc. Roberts or Robert's clerks (who probably drafted the report) were ignorant of this fact apparently. A small caveat but Roberts and most other justices other than Alito or Clarence Thomas have made similar errors in cases where it mattered.

Adjuncts are typically paid and treated like disposable garbage by administrators. Universities would actually be improved if there were adjunct administrators instead of professors teaching your kids.

Fun factoid, approximately during the GWB years and since, over 50 percent of payroll at universities and colleges is spent on administrators and their staffs, not for instruction.

208 Eva Cassidy, what a voice! One of those odd stories where she got popular after she had died. She was always a thing in the mid-Atlantic region, DC mostly. I moved here in Dec '97 and they were still talking about her. She had died mid '96 sometime. One of her covers wound up on a TV show in the UK a few years later and they were scrambling around to find out who this lovely voice is and where she is. Sadly she had passed away from cancer in 96. A few years later the same scenario happened again, but in America. Probably missed some details here but going from memory. Little foggy due to insomnia.
