Could there be a Mystery Click? You'll just have to explore.

Good morning Horde and welcome to the Classical Saturday Coffee Break and Prayer Revival. As we approach Christmas The Fabulous and I wish you and your loved ones a very Merry Christmas.

Now before we enter the Prayer Revival there are just a few housekeeping matters to take care of. (Rulz for those of you at the North Pole)

1) This is an open thread. Please feel free to lurk, opine and/or bloviate away.
2) Be kind, be nice. No jumping on the furniture and no open flames by the Christmas tree.
3) Running with sharp objects could impact your consumption of eggnog and fruitcake, be careful.
4) Have a great weekend.

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

11/8 – Jim in Kalifornia could use prayers. He was scheduled for laparoscopic surgery to clean abscess(es) and add a drain.
11/16 Update – Jim was released from the hospital on 11/12. He still has the drain, is on 2 antibiotics and an antifungal for another 12 days. His anti-rejection regimen was reduced to allow him to fight the infection(s), but at a potential risk to the transplanted kidney.
12/7 Update – Jim is hospitalized again with sepsis again. His blood pressure has slumped again and his heart rate is too high. Also, the drain in his abdomen is not working.
12/11 Update – Jim had surgery, and the doctors removed “a couple of feet” of his small intestine and resected the large. Jim will be living with a colostomy bag for 6 months.

11/23 – Jewells sent an update. She has been taking ivermectin for 2 weeks, and the only side effect is extreme fatigue.
12/7 Update – Please keep praying. The past few weeks have been bad. Jewells is in a lot of pain. The bone lesions are spreading in her arms and rib cage. She is supposed to start radiation Wednesday, and is waiting to hear about a permanent drain to be put in her lungs.
12/14 Update – The drain was put in on 12/11. She was supposed to receive a sedative and medication for pain while they worked, and she received nothing. She felt everything and it hurt like hell. It also hurts when it is being drained, and that is daily for the first week. She has a great home health nurse coming in now, and she has shown Jewell’s daughter and husband how to do it.

11/30 – Tonypete offered prayers of thanksgiving - #4 son and his wife have announced the (estimated) May arrival of their first baby. They are all so thrilled.

11/30 – PabloD asked for prayers. He is currently on a two-week heart monitor and waiting for more tests. They are not sure what’s wrong. He is praying for favorable results, or at least a clear answer as to what the problem may be.

11/30 – DiddlySquat requested prayers. After doing his normal weighted leg lifts, his foot went numb, with pain down his calf. He’s had constant pain and many sleepless nights for the last 6 weeks. He’s finally scheduled for a nerve test EMG.

11/30 – Megthered asked for prayers for her son-in-law. He had stepped on a nail, and it became infected. They took him to the hospital, and they did surgery to try and save his foot.

11/30 – W offered the following prayer, as a follow up on the election:
“Almighty and most merciful father, we thank thee for the great blessing you have heaped on the citizens of the United States. We thank the Lord for protecting President Trump from the assassin’s bullet. We thank the Lord for providing a fair and just election, and for the great electoral victory which you have granted us. We offer thanks for your guidance during the electoral contest, and humbly beseech thee to continue providing each of us and our leaders with courage and guidance so that we might crush the wickedness of the swamp and establish justice and moral rectitude in the United States.”

12/7 – Hrothgar sends continued prayers for future president Trump, to keep him safe from harm and that the many forces of corruption and evil arrayed against both him and our country be made ineffective and come to naught!

12/6 – Fenelon Spoke requested prayers. She was in the hospital, after having gotten sick while out with friends. She didn’t end up having to stay the night; tests showed she was dehydrated and had a UTI.

12/7 – Our Country Is Screwed asked for prayers. Just as his daughter completed her cancer treatment (and is now cancer free, praise be to God), he has been diagnosed with cancer as well. More tests are needed, but the biopsy was malignant. What is supposed to be a season of joy is once again dampened by cancer.

12/7 – Grammie Winger updated that Rev is scheduled to have a colostomy reversal in January. Thanks be to God.

12/7 – Jordan61 requested prayers for his mother, who is going in for a CAT scan. Mom has been coughing and congested ever since she caught a cold in August. They have done antibiotics, etc. since, and a chest X-ray revealed something that caused the doctor to recommend an urgent CAT scan.
12/14 Update – The CAT scan showed she had pneumonia. They gave her antibiotics (fourth round) and are continuing with prednisone. If this doesn’t work she will have to see a lung specialist.

12/7 – rhennigantx asked for prayers for his friend Mike, who lost his best friend of 50 years.

12/10 – Village Idiot’s Apprentice requested prayers for his father, who had a major stroke on 12/9, with not a good prognosis.
12/14 Update – His father has entered hospice. He is only expected to last a few days.
12/19 Update – His father was called home to be with God at about 1 am. It is so bittersweet to know that he is no longer here, but yet already at the side of God.

12/10 – Tonypete asked for prayers for his buddy, Larry, whose mother passed away during the night. This is after Larry’s wife passed away last year. Larry is having a tough time.

12/10 – Nurse Ratched asked for a prayer for Marine. He was in a motorcycle accident yesterday. He’s got a broken nose and arm, but no spinal injuries or concussion.

12/11 – Lady in Black requested prayers for her dad. He’s 89, in declining health, and suffers from mild dementia. Lady in Black’s dad’s wife of 45 years died on 12/3. Dad is lost without her and very sad. His dementia challenges are making it even worse. Prayers for his mental and physical well-being during the time would be greatly appreciated.

12/11 – Teresa in Fort Worth has had her second round of chemo, and it went well. Thanks to God for that! Also, the anti-nausea meds are working very well for her. (We have been praying for Teresa for a couple of months, as she found she had bile duct cancer, which had metastasized into her liver. It is very rare and very serious. She hopes for at least 12 months more to live, with chemo and surgery and prayers.)

12/12 – Cybersmythe is supposed to have outpatient surgery on 12/16, but he got an abnormal ECG. He’s asking for prayers for the best of all possible outcomes.

12/12 – Bulg asked for general prayers for himself and his family.

12/14 – Dash my Lace Wings asked for prayers. She has had chronic hip pain for years, but it has really started to affect her mobility. The MRI showed torn tendons. She is going to try platelet-rich-plasma injections to stimulate healing, in lieu of surgery. That will happen in January. Please pray that the tendons are healed and that she might have reduced pain for a few years, and not have to have more expensive surgery. Thank you. Also, if anyone has had this treatment, what is your opinion of it?

12/14 – About That Time asked for prayers for a daughter who is trying to give them a second grandchild. The daughter lost a baby in early October, and is pregnant again. Prayers for success are appreciated.

12/14 – Commissar Hrothgar would appreciate a prayer or two for Tim, an acquaintance from Southern Virginia. He apparently dodged a deer while driving, but went off the road into a ditch, jamming the driver’s side door, and then the car caught on fire. Amazingly, there was an ongoing house fire nearby, so the fire department EMTs saw the flames and were somehow able to extract him from the car. However, he suffered severe burns on his hands and legs. He is already receiving skin grafts on his hands and legs and will be in a bad way for some time.

12/14 – Sock Monkey asked for prayers for Publius. His cousin passed away suddenly on 12/13.

12/14 – Sharon (willow’s apprentice) could use some prayers. She had a CT scan of her hip, and may be headed toward a hip replacement. She is not worried about the surgery, which probably will improve her life, but is concerned about the loss of autonomy during recovery.

12/14 – Duke Lowell asked for prayers for his father, who was taken to the hospital 12/13 in respiratory distress. They are thinking it’s an infection, but he’s 87, and at that age anything can be serious.

12/16 – Teresa in Fort Worth requested prayers for Paul’s niece, Amanda, who had a heart transplant 4 years ago. Now her body has started to reject it. She needs another miracle.

12/17 – Bulg asked for prayers that he would find a job soon.

12/18 – neverenoughcaffeine could use prayers. She has 3 minor medical issues. One she can ignore, but the other 2 are causing loads of pain and discomfort. They may be related. She is praying that her ortho doctor has an answer for both.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

14 Morning, Coffee Folken! 'Tis the winter solstice, Saturn's Day, and only four days until l Xmas. As a boy, this is when I knew it was for real, that Christmas was really here, when the calendar clicked over to the 20th. That memory still hangs with me -- as I suspect it does for many of us.

I've got a few minutes until I leave for the local post office to see if they can track my errant (three days overdue) package. The office opens at 8:30. I'll be there when the doors open, but somehow I think there'll be a line anyway.

The Killer Kittenz From Outer Space, Stirling the big black and Dagny the little Siberian, are doing well. In fact, Dagny came into the bathroom and sprawled on the counter just now as I brushed my teeth. She's been doing that for the last three weeks -- and she's lived with me now for more than two years. Maybe someday she'll decide to sit in my lap.

22 Miss Linda wants to go into darkest Oakwood Mall, the one on our side of the river, today. Of course the stores don't open until eleven (I think -- might be earlier for Christmas shopping). As a teen that was my first mall, the first enclosed one (and I've read it was indeed the first totally enclosed one in the metro area, too). Exciting it was to go there then, with bookstores, a movie theatre, a drugstore with more books and magazines, and so much more that you don't get in malls now.

Well, there'll be the decorations to see at least.

36 grammie -

I don't want to categorize AfD as good or bad. It's a political party so the usual mixed bag. But what they aren't is a far right, Pro-Putin, neo-Nazi hate group as they have been branded by the German establishment and our State Dept among others.

AfD is in some ways similar to MAGA. The party is comprised largely of working class, ordinary Germans who want things like secure borders, an end to mass immigration and a return of cheap energy. Prior to the Ukraine war Germany was getting about 90% of their Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) from Russia. LNG is a primary source of energy for most of Europe. Now they are getting almost 0 LNG from Russia and their energy costs have spiked, just like ours.

The war in Ukraine is largely a fight over control of energy. That's why Burisma has been at the center of the corruption, the Bidens, the CIA, BlackRock, etc., AfD wants a return of cheap Russian LNG so that makes them Putin lovers. There's a lot more to it but the claims that AfD is some evil group is just BS spin, again just like the claims about MAGA.

It did note some irregular activity; a nurse friend translated the medical gobbledygook for me, but I don't recall what it meant. Things seem to have stabilized, and doc says I can start exercising again. We're still pushing the insurance co for an echocardiogram, but we'll see. Thanks to all for prayers, known and unknown.

A few years ago I shopped some ammo components (to the late redc1c4 as a matter of fact) and it went out in two boxes. One got there, the other did not. I requested the do a search, they didn't find it, but said I should request again. So I did, nothing, and then I asked them to pay the insurance, at which point they said they had no proof it was lost.

You know, it could show up. Try requesting a search! Then they demanded proof of its value. Um, I bought insurance, who cares. No, no, they said, I had to prove it was worth the insurance I put on it, and of course it was at this point they the intended recipient passed away, but after increasingly pointless and petulant discussions, I finally got the payout.

Good luck!

Our parish has grown in a dozen years from 120 families to nearly 800. It is the only one dedicated to the Traditional Latin Mass, as Annunciation in downtown has them only on Sunday, TLM at all other diocesan churches having been suppressed.

With more Catholics being drawn to pre-Councilar rites, the growth in numbers is unsurprising. Our facilities have simply outgrown the numbers using them.

I questioned whether I broke the commandment about neighbors since I've expended a lot of energy railing against one of ours over the last 3 months who been harassing us. Father advised that it wasn't the dissing of the neighbor as much as my anger, excessive anger about the situation. He told me to set my anger aside and pray for the individual. I had already prayed for them and will continue. I guess it's a type of turning the other check.

This is great news, and thoroughly destroys the defeatist narrative that the Church is somehow doomed because of Francis. Our parish is also seeing an uptick in Mass attendance, we've got historic levels of seminarians, and the young priests are very doctrinally orthodox.

The own downside is that because the parish is new skewing younger, contributions are not what the used to be, even though membership is growing. I take this as a sign that incipient geezers like my need to kick it up a bit.

86 Hadrian- what wonderful news!
After Covid, mine had to turn the parish hall back into a chapel, even though the re-done church (ex-Korean Baptist) was pretty large. They have grown amazingly and have 7 Masses on Sunday, I think.

I miss it a lot, but I console myself with having been there from the get-go and soldiering through the early years crammed into the good Sister's chapel for nearly two decades before we were allowed to buy a property.
I think this is the trickle that turns into a flood.

AfD is challenging the Establishment consensus, which typically holds certain issues as out of bounds. Immigration is one of those, as is confidence and pride in German culture.

The AfD is getting smeared by the entire state and the churches as well. The German Catholic Conference has all but declared membership in AfD bars one from receiving the sacraments. They had to back down, but the Church his losing huge numbers because of this stupidity.

That and they want priestesses and all the ghey stuff. I mean, just become Anglican.

Oh, and there some sort of Catholic association that is demanding the German Church be controlled by the laity, which would allow dogma to be overturned by a popular vote or something.

I'd like the Church to stay Catholic, not go liberal Protestant with beautiful but empty buildings.

We are long past the point where anyone can argue that re-writing doctrine will somehow reverse declining participation. What it is doing is driving the faithful away.

Which is entirely consistent with these people being (unwitting?) servants of the devil.

Saudi girl living in #Germany reported to the German police in September 2023 about the danger of a man called Talib Abd AlMohsen, who was planning to run people over with his car.

The German police ignored the report and acted in a stupid bureaucratic manner.

A month earlier the first report, Talib tweeted threatening to kill 20 Germans & the same girl sent a report to the police that was also ignored.

Today Talib carried out his threat and killed many innocent people in #Magdeburg while The leftist media insists on hiding these facts.

It has become one because of the rise of democratic governments. Monarchies can fight wars for personal reasons or to enhance national power, and make peace without much popular input.

With a democracy, everything has to be a moral cause because modern people want to feel good about themselves when they're displacing people and taking their wealth.

At least the imperialists were open about there being financial benefits for the home country. Today there are negative benefits for the home country, and only the elites profit. So like a monarchy, but your only ruler options are Stalin or Caligula.

That's why it's so special.

Every day is a progression and the sun gets a little lower and the light changes. Even if it's still warm, and the leaves are green, you "feel" the difference because the daylight is fading, night comes earlier.

And then the leaves begin to change, and every year is different, every day is different. Summer and winter are basically constants, with weather making it interesting. But autumn is profound.

The political establishment. In Europe, there are agreed-upon issues that are not open to discussion. Such as leaving the EU, or going back to the Deutschmark, or limiting immigration.

Even "conservative" parties refuse to discuss this (see also the UK).

So just as with Brexit, the AfD is going outside the traditional parties and as a result, all the parties have said they will not form a coalition with them.

You know, because democracy is about what the Establishment will allow. They are literally saying "you cannot vote your way out of this."

Which is how you actually get swastikas.

I’ve seen an interesting explanation of the success of Isis (for a while at least) and now the jihadi groups from a middle eastern source. I don’t know if I buy into it completely yet - but the claim is that Erdogan in Turkey was the primary booster of these groups in Syria, just as he made sure that Isis always had plenty of weapons. Why? Because, this theory goes, that Erdogan wants to see the entire region sink into jihadi chaos, at which point he can move the Turkish army in, in great force, and establish Syria as a Turkish province just as it was under the Ottoman’s.

This would explain why Erdogan has gone to great lengths to destroy Russian and Iranian influence in Syria.

I recently ordered a small something from Amazon that was to be delivered by USPS. After several days went by, I checked the tracking and found that it had been delivered, but I didn't have it. So I went to my local USPS station with tracking number in hand and explained the situation. The gentlemen went in back for awhile and came back saying that GPS tracking showed that it had been delivered to a location slightly different from mine, I filled out the necessary (short) form, went my way, and a few days later, my package arrived in my mailbox! So USPS does have some diligent folks working for it.

274 There is a little bit of “high trust society” legacy in the postal or delivery system.

Nothing is “delivered” in the legal sense - in the bill of lading sense, unless and until someone accepts it. Technically speaking, leaving valuable parcels on someone’s porch without receipt is not delivery, and from a legal perspective, insane.

When you buy something and it is shipped - you paid them, they have your money. But the item isn’t “yours” until you take delivery. It is in the custody of the shipper. And they are responsible for it.

Most everything is cost shifting. Rightfully so. Some cunt stole it off your porch? Why should I pay for that? Or a dishonest carrier? Not my clowns, not my circus.

I know there's an email addie for this, I'm just not running it down right now.
Thanks

I know you're being clever but I'll answer you seriously. Germany has more of a leftist uni-party than we do. And they all have promoted migrants on a massive scale with all the terrorism and crime that entails.

The alternative is a party that doesn't do that.

296 "It has become one because of the rise of democratic governments. Monarchies can fight wars for personal reasons or to enhance national power, and make peace without much popular input.
"

The only way you can defend this position is to either claim counterfactuals or hand wave actual examples away by claiming that "that wasn't an actual monarchy"

The main element that monarchy is supposed to bring is stability in succession and the creation of someone who is accountable for the actions of the state, is something which never actually happened. A monarch has never been the sole power in a state, and cannot be, even if you consider the alpha male Chimp in the troop as a monarch; even a king as autocratic as Phillip II relied on support of his nobility and governors to prosecute his wars and policies, which were specifically about money, trade routes and resources.

As an aside on the theorists in this field, I always thought Moldbug was as self serving as Nick Fuentes ever was, and H-H Hoppe is a wonderful observer of politics, but I no more trust him about the glories of monarchies than I trusted Linus Pauling about his vision of the radiant future of mankind.

297 Brendan O'Neill answers the question of what does it cost for the West's continued lenience toward these enemies inside the gates:

Hamas clearly recognises that when the cultural establishments of global capitalism treat every image of Palestinian death as an indictment of Israeli evil, when the West’s activist class, media elites and online influencers hold up every picture of a broken Palestinian as proof of the Jewish State’s ‘uniquely murderous nature’, then it is in Hamas’s interests to prolong the war and allow more such suffering to occur. Having made Palestinian agony the currency of their activism, the activist class cannot now feign surprise at Hamas’s willingness to let this disastrous war continue. Hamas’s intransigence in the face of its far more powerful foe is a direct consequence of the keffiyeh classes’ commodification of Palestinian pain as a testament to both Israeli malfeasance and Western indifference.

I wasn't making a comprehensive argument, just using shorthand.

Yes, monarchies have courts, nobility and there are merchant interests as well, but this is open and the parts are exposed (even palace conspiracies are pretty much assumed).

When the crown wages war, someone is expected to profit. Either new lands are gained, more plunder is secured, titular claims are resolved, etc. There was never this weird, modern "we're doing this out of pure altruism" concept.

That's the difference. Back then troops fought for God, King and Country (and pay, plunder and social advancement) but now everything is for the sacred and holy borders of Ukraine or "spreading democracy."

It is much more difficult to practice realpolitik of the kind that national interest is maximized, i.e. carving a protectorate out of another state for the purpose of building a canal. Instead, our elites practice shadowly self-dealing schemes that weaken the home country.

Despite claims made by the German press, Taleb Al Abdulmohsen is not an ex-Muslim atheist, nor is he a fan of the AfD or Elon Musk. While he may have spread this misinformation himself, it aligns with the practice of Taqqiye, an Islamic doctrine that permits lying and deception to advance Islamic objectives.

In reality, he is a radical Shia Muslim, as evidenced by his name and numerous tweets and chat leaks circulating on Arabic-speaking platforms like X. Disturbingly, his plans to carry out mass killings of Germans were brought to the attention of German authorities by a Saudi woman. Tragically, the police ignored her warnings.

so all the other monarchies prior to 1776, or perhaps prior to the Dutch Estates, or perhaps the Athenian state, were not doing exactly the same thing?

No, they did exactly the same thing, and in any situation where there was a need to raise levies and the peasantry was not held in peonage or outright slavery, there was a need to rally them for whatever action was considered important to the powerful. Even peons held in conditions of chattel slavery need to be rallied.
Look, the use of propaganda by the state to promote whatever economic or warfare goal was pushed through propaganda, not because of some double dealing and self deception, but because the state was acting contrary to the wishes of the people from it draws power and authority from.
To claim that there were no shadowy back room deals in Ur or Elizabeth I's court is a counterfactual.

Posted by: Kindltot at December 21, 2024 11:26 AM (D7oie)

345 Lloyd, to claim that wars were fought at any time for king and country or for God's glory because of some inherent goodness of a monarchy is absolute idiocy.
To claim that there is some benefit to a monarchy out of some inherent goodness and openness in the system is being ignorant of actual history, something you as a history writer should not be subject to.

I think I understand your point, though, that somehow the past, golden age did not employ propaganda and underhanded dealing in moving masses to fight wars, and that such heroes of the past did not need such subterfuges since the state did not engage in "shadowly self-dealing schemes that weaken the home country" . . .

I mean, this was one of the satirical underpinnings of Don Quixote.
what we are seeing now is an intensification of the trend since low interest loans and fiat money hides the fact that such actions are wildly unprofitable for anyone who isn't skimming, but it is nothing new.
