I think the Trump administration just wrote off the State Department. There's no fixing it, and no pressing need to do so.
Just look at the facts. Trump nominated a GOP establishment guy (and political rival) to run it. Then, after Rubio accepted, Trump promptly names a Special Envoy for the Middle East, Special Envoy for Ukraine, and a "Very" Special Envoy (Grennell) that he can send off to whatever hot spot pops up throughout the term. It takes the State Department right out of the game. And should something pop up elsewhere on the globe, Trump has the ability to add more envoys to his administration. I'm guessing Rubio (and the rest of the State Dept. hacks) are not pleased. Although, based on their past performance, they might not have figured out their irrelevance yet. Recently, Crenshaw even said “you have no way to better yourself as a Congressman” without being able to trade stocks. That’s INSANE. She’s normally very rational and very conservative, but she was really upset about the opposition to the original CR. She was screaming at Dagan on Fox this morning that what are they supposed to do when the Republicans don’t have the votes? They’re the minority..

The US House of Representatives on Thursday overwhelmingly rejected a Republican-led funding bill aimed at averting a government shutdown, with federal agencies due to run out of cash on Friday night and begin closing down at the weekend. The contentious bill would have suspended the country’s borrowing limit for President-elect Donald Trump’s first two years in office and dozens of debt hawks in the Republican ranks rebelled against their own leadership to sink the package. Mike - would it be of any help for folks like me and R. to visit and patronize Ashville, Boone, etc. and other affected communities to spread some $$ around? Or, would that NOT be helpful at this time? Posted by: Tonypete -------- Hard to say. Such local businesses that were/are hardest hit are pretty much either kaput, or reorganizing. Sadly, the Asheville economy has (in error) become very dependent on visitor/resort $, rather than an independent local economy. This going to sound horrid, but I'm less sympathetic toward the resort-oriented businesses than I might be. The employees (and ex-employees) are suffering, and I feel human compassion for them, but I believe that the majority are not long-term residents, or even truly active members of the real community. For years I have railed about the risks of becoming a resort-oriented 'destination' economy. Over the last 20 years or so, the area has lost thousands of manufacturing jobs as the sundry politicians have focused on 'Resort' oriented businesses. In any economic downturn, resort 'destinations' are the first to suffer. Meh, I'm rambling off. At any rate, sure, any $ coming in would be helpful. They just offered Kamila $20 million to write book.
Isn't 20 Mil what her campaign is in the hole for? Is this a way to pay off her campaign debt like Hillary paid off Obama's debt? Who is bidding to buy the DNC this time around? Posted by: Kindltot at December 19, 2024 07:41 PM (D7oie) 248
It's so pleasing knowing the CIC understands 'two can play that game'.
He understands it well enough that he just flipped the GOPe House. Yo, windsocks, how does it feel? Posted by: Braenyard - some absent friends are more equal than others at December 19, 2024 07:43 PM (PMg+h) 249
I think they should do the same thing when Trump is president - have a big announcement that there is special room for people upset about his policies.
Everyone is given a nice welcome, then shown to a door at the back of the room that leads to the parking lot. There, waiting for them, is a banker box with all their shit in it and their final check. Posted by: El Mariachi at December 19, 2024 07:49 PM (nLFEI) 250
