Two weeks after President-elect Donald Trump's November election victory, the Biden-Harris State Department issued an internal diplomatic cable that touted sweeping diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives across the agency, including dedicated "reflection rooms" and "all-gender restrooms" at American embassies abroad.
The Nov. 19 cable, issued by outgoing secretary of state Antony Blinken and reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon, is part of a larger Biden administration bid to embed DEI initiatives within the federal government before Trump takes office next year.
In some cases, that's meant rebranding job titles "promoting Diversity, Equity and Inclusion" in an attempt to make them less noticeable to Trump, the Washington Post reported. The State Department's cable, however, is open in its embrace of DEI.
Titled, "Developing a More Inclusive and Accessible Work Environment," the internal message "outlines efforts the Department is taking, in both domestic and overseas locations, to create workplaces that are welcoming, inclusive, and accessible to all employees and visitors." It references Blinken's so-called Modernization Agenda, which it says "calls for a work environment that is resilient, agile, secure, and inclusive."

The cable also focuses on employee bathroom habits.
The State Department is "identifying more inclusive options for employees and visitors who would like more privacy," according to the message, which notes that "employees and family members and guests visiting Posts abroad can access men's or women's restrooms and single-use (all-gender) restrooms (as available) and other facilities that align with their gender identity."
"Most" of the agency's office buildings, the cable says, "include single-occupant restrooms." Such restrooms "may also benefit people of diverse faiths by providing a private place for ritual washing and a safe environment for a wide range of employees and visitors, including transgender and non-binary individuals."

Under President Joe Biden, the State Department has championed DEI initiatives overseas, pumping around $80 million into programs meant to advance "racial equity" and prevent "gender and sexuality discrimination." The agency has also held "internal staff sessions and meetings" on how to preserve DEI policies once Trump takes office, according to Simon Hankinson, a former Foreign Service officer who now serves as a senior research fellow at the Heritage Foundation.
"Some staff are concerned with how to preserve DEI, and there are suggestions that they could keep the essence of it by renaming and keeping the same dedicated staff with new titles," Hankinson said. "Some employees are not willing to let what they see as 'progress' go, even if the order comes down."

48 I think the Trump administration just wrote off the State Department. There's no fixing it, and no pressing need to do so.

Just look at the facts. Trump nominated a GOP establishment guy (and political rival) to run it. Then, after Rubio accepted, Trump promptly names a Special Envoy for the Middle East, Special Envoy for Ukraine, and a "Very" Special Envoy (Grennell) that he can send off to whatever hot spot pops up throughout the term.

It takes the State Department right out of the game. And should something pop up elsewhere on the globe, Trump has the ability to add more envoys to his administration.

I'm guessing Rubio (and the rest of the State Dept. hacks) are not pleased. Although, based on their past performance, they might not have figured out their irrelevance yet.

Last week when he was asked about his stock trading, Crenshaw whined that members of Congress haven’t had a pay raise since 2009.

Hard to say. Such local businesses that were/are hardest hit are pretty much either kaput, or reorganizing. Sadly, the Asheville economy has (in error) become very dependent on visitor/resort $, rather than an independent local economy.

This going to sound horrid, but I'm less sympathetic toward the resort-oriented businesses than I might be. The employees (and ex-employees) are suffering, and I feel human compassion for them, but I believe that the majority are not long-term residents, or even truly active members of the real community.

For years I have railed about the risks of becoming a resort-oriented 'destination' economy. Over the last 20 years or so, the area has lost thousands of manufacturing jobs as the sundry politicians have focused on 'Resort' oriented businesses. In any economic downturn, resort 'destinations' are the first to suffer.

Meh, I'm rambling off. At any rate, sure, any $ coming in would be helpful.

In the late 60's/ early 70's (so I'm am told) PE majors at UNI(lowa) were required to take swimming. Apparently it was in the nude. West campus for males, East campus for females. 20+ years later, integrated and we wore swimsuits, obviously. Now, according to my HS senior, they either don't shower until they get home, or they have curtains in the individual showers.

$20 million. The return on most books for the author is about $1. Hence, to get $20 million, Kamala would have to sell 20 million books. The best selling book from 2023 sold...1 million copies. Hillary sold just 300,000. So why would they pay her 20X more than they could ever recoup, I wonder?

The goal is twofold - if she dishes on Biden she gets to be the brave truth teller for the dems. Biden's rep gets destroyed - it's revenge for losing the election. And SHE becomes toxic - she can't run in 2028. This is her payoff not to run - her pension, her retirement.
