Grit crams in commercials, so a three-hour movie goes to 3.5. Looking at it now, I see this movie was quite an epic. The sandy desert wastes that I remember from the opening and ending bookend all sorts of scenes, Civil War battles, Eastwood's Blondie and Eli Wallach's Tuco dynamiting a bridge, Lee Van Cleef's "Bad" smoking his pipe as an army sergeant and interrogating Tuco, etc. No wonder there always seems to be something in it I haven't seen before.

57 So, I'll bitch here since it was impolite to do it yesterday.

I go home and 'surprise' Mom and Dad during midnight mass every year. Well, this year, instead of doing it at St Augustine's they did it at Sacred Heart (the parish I grew up in.) Little did I know, but quickly realized once I left home, we were a very liberal parish. About 20 years ago, they built a new church for the parish because the old one had been intended to be temporary (they used it for 20 years) and was a converted basketball arena. It was nice- if rectangular.

Well, the new church... yeah. I played a game with myself last night and tried to count the number of crosses. 3. 3 in the whole church. Not a single crucifix. In a Catholic Church. One standing on the altar. One on the Ciborium. One fashioned to look like it was leaning on a pillar. The 'stations' are floor impressionist versions sunk into the stone. The walls? Completely bare.

Iconoclasts, man. Fucking iconoclasts.

We're a Protestant church from the 1850's and while we don't have crucifixes we do have two crosses and one on top of the Christian flag. We also have beautiful banners on the walls with sayings of about Jesus " Resurrectoon and the life"
" "son of God" , Prince of Peace" Holy Spirit
The denomination may be liberal . I'm conservative
And before somebody possibly charmingly tells me I'm congratulating myself , I am not. The banners were there before I ever arrived but I do like them .
