  • Intel's second-generation "Battlemage" graphics cards are here and... They're actually pretty damn good. (Hot Hardware)

They're not perfect: Intel's drivers still hiccupped on a couple of games, resulting in slower than expected performance and some visual artifacts.

But the new B580 routinely outruns Nvidia and AMD cards costing 50% more. And it leaves Intel's previous generation A770 card in the dust on most tests, while using about half as much power.

And it delivers solid ray-tracing and AI performance. And it has 12GB of VRAM instead of the 8GB found on competitors like Nvidia's 4060 and AMD's 7600.

    And it's cheaper at $249.

All in all, a good card at a good price, only let down by some minor driver issues. But the driver software has improved dramatically since the first generation of cards was launched, so those problems are likely to be fixed too.

8 Automatic theorem solving has been a field of study for decades. Second order logic has been around longer. LLMs chuck all that right out the window and just try to smush together something that at least looks like a proof if you don't look too closely. It's more like machine vision soullessly spitting out a number that quantifies how much like a 6 that picture of a squiggle you fed it is. How much like a proof does this string of symbols look like? Forget logic, just tilt your head and squint. Is that Truthy enough? You can huck a many processors at it as you like and make it a complicated as you can, but it's not Artificial Intelligence. It's Counterfeit Intelligence.

Hubby should be discharged tomorrow. He was still pretty loopy today. I don't know what to expect, if he's sent "home" and not 100% sure he will be.

It would probably be better if he goes to rehab instead, but since his condition is "terminal" that may not be possible?

The sneezing is long gone, and the coughing, as I said, has not bothered me since last night. And even then it was occasional and minor. I'm skipping exercise until Sunday, and I may wait until tomorrow to celebrate with a pipe.

Tomorrow, too, I have little in the way of errands. Though I know Linda will want to visit the Red, White, and Blue Thrift Store again.

Yesterday I bought a bottle of wine as a retirement gift for the guy who hired me at my previous job. Being sick, I couldn't make his retirement party, and I may not see him next week, so I thought, "Take care of this now."

50 I have to guess that a lot of the anger from non insane people is because they keep changing the rules. Medical Adhocracy. No one knows where they stand. No one knows what they paid for or what they're gonna get. Any given day, the rules can be changed, or they're so opaque and self-contradictory that they can pretend they say anything they like regardless.

And for every person who gets that from their insurance company, that insurance company gets that from the government.

50 million rules is worse than no rules at all.

Yeah, I know that *one day* hubby won't beat the odds any longer. He just didn't progress as quickly as the dr's thought.

What pisses me off, is that when he had incarcerated hernia, the local dr's refused to operate "too high risk" and they tried to send him home (TO DIE in a matter of hours or days) with painkillers, hospice, yadda yadda.

That was 3 years ago. We fought, and they finally sent him by helo to another city, where there was a non-chickenshit dr.

Michael Moore is a horrible person and I distain everything he is about. But the reality he did too great things for the world. The first one was his videoed commentary about how great it would be to vote for Trump. I still say that video actually played apart in Trump’s victory in 2016. The second one was his line in Canadian bacon when the character said.” when was the last time you went out for Canadian food?”

It was a blessing the way she passed. It could've been in a hospital all alone, but I was there for her to the very end. I called her friends and family to talk to her when she was unconscious. I know she could hear them, as when I'd read to her she'd calm down. When it came to the end, her breathing getting shallower and faster, I was holding her hand, telling her how much I loved her and how it was okay for her to pass. I told her if she'd have me I'd do it all again with her.

109 Coventry Carol. 1591.

I've always liked this one. However, when I went to do research, it is a good example of how things are not always what you think they are. This was on a CD of Christmas music I bought way back in college. The music is beautiful, but I remember a buddy and I mentioning 'Wait, did they just say "Young children to slay"?'
The lyrics:
Lully, lullay, thou little tiny child
By-by, lully, lullay
Lullay, thou little tiny child
By-by, lully, lullay
Oh, sisters too, how may we do
For to preserve this day
Oh, this poor youngling for whom we sing
By-by, lully, lullay
Herod the King, in his raging
Charged he hath this day
His men of might, in his own sight
All children young to slay
Then woe is me, poor child, for thee
And ever morn and day
For thy parting, nor say nor sing
By-by, lully, lullay
The song is from a mystery play and depicts the 'Massacre of the Innocents' from the Bible when King Herod ordered all of the male children under the age of 2 in Bethlehem killed. It is a lullaby sung by a mother to one of the condemned children.
Well, that is horrifying. People are strange.

When I was at Microsoft we used Outlook and Exchange. Let me check my notes: they have over 100,000 employees and it worked mostly without drama. You may not like the client design - that's a different discussion. But that has nothing to do with why Outlook/Exchange are not doing their most basic functions at your company. As for for the MS365 Outlook as near as I'm able to determine that whole global email system is running on exchange servers. Again, lots of bitching and moaning about Microsoft doesn't have anything to do with Microsoft at all and this appears to be the case here. Still I feel you're pain, you just want to get your email and manage your calendar. Good luck sorting this one out.

I think we're going to be shocked to see the numbers of Ukranians involved, up to and including the Azov battalion Nazis (I'm not using that in the leftist throwaway meaning but in the actual Nazi meaning) that IIRC trained in Virginia.

I suspect the Ukranian troop/thug involvement was key. No oversight, little recognition, tons of deniability, and no connection to the American grandmas they were betraying and beating.

I'm so busted. How'd you know? I used to work there and from time to time we had to interact with customer issues. Plus you got to hear all the war stories floating around. There really is a phenomenon where people blame Microsoft for everything when in reality it's customers that have no idea what they're doing with the products. This then gets repeated across the internet where it lives on forever. It's all quite amusing when you think about it.

Since leaving Microsoft, I've dealt with their customer service. It's a bit maddening like all large corporation customer service departments, but if you can get past the front line you can get some pretty great help.
