All The World's An ONT And We Are Merely Players

Welcome to Thursday night. Anyone in the mood for a little ONT? I don't know about you guys, but I'm running across a lot of people who need this reminder:

Rights.jfif

Run Away Lady

Let's start with a clip that made me say WTAF?

She needs to find anther “instructor” post haste. And a better outfit to shoot in. I'm told that boob brass is not fun.

Syria

Have you been following events there? This article pretty much nails it.

Terrorists Liberate Terrorists From Other Terrorists

What Jerusalem knows and Foggy Bottom has yet to learn is that the Middle East is a bunch of tribal factions, warlords and gangs pretending to be countries, but despite the flags, anthems, UN memberships, World Bank positions and invites to climate change summits, are all some version of Al-Jawlani bouncing between ISIS, Al Qaeda and a new governing coalition.

Over a thousand years of Islam comes down to some guy with a beard uniting a few key families with whose backing he then seizes a bunch of cities that used to belong to long lost great civilizations and then his men settle down to some murdering, looting and raping while thanking Allah for the privilege of a mission to kill, loot and rape the world. Or die trying.

The stationary bandit theory isn’t some abstraction in the Middle East: it’s everyday reality.

Common Sense Libertarians?

Most Libertarians that you meet are actually libertines. But here Austin Peterson lays out his agenda for a Libertarian Party that frankly I'd consider joining.

Libertarian principles have gained new momentum in efforts like DOGE (Decentralization of Government Entities), spearheaded by figures like Vivek and Elon Musk. Their work aims to reshape the government by recommending structural reforms, including dismantling outdated agencies. The involvement of Ron Paul as an advisor to this initiative has inspired confidence that the MAGA movement is fertile ground for those dedicated to shrinking the administrative state. Paul may finally get his comeuppance on his old enemy: the State.

As Ramaswamy put it in his speech to the National Conservatism conference, “[Donald Trump] didn’t just blindly parrot the party’s historical orthodoxy… he offered an entirely new worldview… one that shattered the historical neoliberal consensus to its core.” This critique of the old orthodoxy on trade, immigration, and the regulatory state created the conditions for a political realignment.

Libertarian Nationalism builds on this shift, reclaiming libertarian principles and combining them with the pragmatic realities of governance and national identity. It rejects the pacifism, hyper-individualism, and cultural hedonism that have weakened old-school libertarianism. Instead, it offers a vision of liberty grounded in pride, strength, and the preservation of American values.

This Is Such A Cool Idea. I'd Give My Left Nut To Have One Of These.

Remembering the PBY Catalina Landseaire

The optimism of the post-WWII era remains unparalleled, and justifiably so. One dark, painful episode had just wrapped, and humanity was itching to embark on new adventures, to live life to its fullest – whether in a literal sense or just by use of the imagination, in the case of those who couldn't afford the real thing.

That's the context in which the Landseaire was born, a land-sea-and-air recreational vehicle unlike any other. The Landseaire was designed as a step up from private or corporate jets in the form of an all-in-one package deal. It wasn't as much a means to travel from Point A to Point B, but a destination in itself since it could land anywhere without an issue – be it on water or on land.

The Landseaire was the ultimate penthouse because, unlike a regular penthouse, this one could fly, float, and land wherever its residents wanted. That's because, unlike most concepts that have made their way into the pages of history, the Landseaire was deeply rooted in the past it was trying to make millionaires forget, being based on a surplus of Consolidated PBY Catalina military aircraft.

Basically they converted surplus PBYs into flying Rvs. And yes, that's a metal an idea as it sounds.

Cato Is At It Again

Civil Society or Political Society?

I don't disagree with the article's take on the decline of civil society, but the article, like many things put out by Cato, is weakened by it's incessant “both sides” bias. For example:

A society whose members hate and resent one another cannot persist for long, certainly not as a civil society. And with the loss of civil society comes the loss of civil liberty. The rule of law is transformed into rule by law, an instrument of retribution, redistribution, and revenge, policies that parties on the left and right have been threatening with increasing vehemence. Far-left “black bloc” militants and rioters (often referred to as “antifa” and far-right militants and rioters (members of the “Proud Boys” among them) are quite eager for violence; their brutality is a small taste of what may come if civility is not restored.

The Proud Boys are a tiny fringe movement that is shunned by most of the right, Antifa is openly courted and supported by the Democratic Party. And the failure to identify the rise of the authoritarian left, using the same tired old Commie playbook to divide the nation into factions, as THE primary factor in the breakdown of civil society, dooms it to irrelevancy.

Somebody came up with a plausible theory on X that one of the key reasons for the Rise of the West was banning cousin marriages.

In most of the Islamic world and elsewhere, you marry your cousin.

Besides the other downsides to cousin marriages (like genetic defects), this makes your society intensely tribal - it is you and your family against the world, and you absolutely don't trust anyone not in your family.

Where cousin marriage is banned, you have to reach out to non-family members to do things (especially anything major), and it turns out that is a much more productive way of organizing society.

I did get the wheels back on the Jeep, and a battery in it, and drove it out of the side yard, and parked it in the driveway.

159 Don't know if already covered, but there are a few good articles on the converted PBYs. Including the tragic incident - Red Sea, but I forget if Egypt or Saudi Arabia - wherein a family was attacked at the beach and their PBY abandoned. But they were amazing. Perfectly suited for the luxurious appointments and amenities that were installed. There was one guy in SoCal who was sort of the big dog in the "industry", but it never became a viable business.

160 37 -- The Belts had help from the French. I read a book titled A Peace To End All Peace a while back. (Sorry, can't remember author.) I thought I knew Middle East history. This book blew that fantasy to itty bitty pieces.

I read today that Israel was prepping to take out Iran's nuclear program. Destroying Syria's military planes, ships, and materiel as well as destroying Hezbollah has cleared the battle space. The Israelis also seem to be ignoring the garbage coming from Biden's puppeteers. They want to get the job done before 20 January because Trump is very firm on wanting the Middle East wars to stop.

I once had a co-worker who talked of growing up around the potato fields. At another job, a different co-worker explained how a minor league team, the Long Island Ducks, became the NYIslanders. I had no idea about the duck farms or the potato fields on eastern Long Island. From their descriptions, it was like any other typical rural area. Nothing much happening, nowhere to go but West (towards NYC). The Long Island Lighthouse on Montauk Point (built under President Washington's admin) wasn't on any history places to visit list. And one had to go through some part of the City and over a bridge or through a tunnel to get completely free. Not even 70 years ago, it was cricket-chirping quiet. With a decent deer season. NY rednecks. Like some parts of Upstate NY. People think rednecks are only in the South, but they're in rural NY, too.

The Libertarian movement once upon a time had some sane ideas and an understanding about things like not being able to have open borders and a pervasive welfare state....then in 2000 the donks decided that the Luap Nor Cult was hurting them and then in 2004 they decided it was destroying them and then BAM the "liberaltarians" were born and as they were infiltrated the Leather Jacket Wanna Be Fonzie went from being worried about budgets to being a lot more worried about justifying a lot of democrat points and legalizing weed for six year olds.

I was a libertarian in the 80s, then I turned 15.

NORAD/Space Force track around 27,000 pieces of space junk in orbit. ID numbers and ephemerides for all of them (when you're launching something into orbit, you don't want a piece of space junk to cross your path). So the idea that they don't know what is in our air space is indeed ridiculous.

This is some sort of live test of some drone technology to do something, I'd guess some sort of remote sensing and mapping tech. They need to do it over live areas, can't do it out at Area 51 and the other secret bases out in the desert. They need to test against real live on the ground infrastructure.

And they're playing cute and gaslighting everybody. It's unfuriating. All they need to say is "national security testing", don't worry, nothing to worry about, we know what it is. But they won't, because that's how they've operated with this shit since the Cold War.

I dunno the iteration of a sane nationalist libertarianism would be a good thing....before the NAMBLA Lincoln Loggers and the BulRAWRK started calling me a "blood and soil nativist" the libertines were.

If the values of the United States were in fact the baseline unmolested natural law of the human condition needing no defense thus "open borders YAY!" then the entire planet would have been at some point the United States....

instead the nation as founded was pretty rare....as in one of a kind.

A sane libertarian movement is probably the best expression of our founding principles....if we are just going to be libertines I can party pretty hard with the donks or elephants I guess.

I'm remembering Jonathan Turley, in some case he took, finally got the govt. to admit that Area 51 actually existed. It was under Clinton.

Turley found some catch-22 somehow or another. The govt claimed that base didn't exist, yet they claimed if it did, it was exempt for some environmental regulations and all that shit for National Security Reasons.

Well, Turley got the court to say, no sale, you can't exempt something that doesn't exist. So, Clinton had to sign something acknowledging Area 51 existed, and was Top Secret and exempt.

247 It appears several Druze villages in the area of the Golan just occupied by Israel are discussing asking to become part of Israel, to "join their brothers" in the Israeli Golan. One speaker at a meeting described Israel as the "lesser of two evils" - but his stark warnings about "what was coming" from the east sort of undercut that attempt at nuance.

Wild.

Quite rational, but still. Apparently the IDF is finding "local elements" (this would include the Druze) very cooperative. This occupation was a prudent military pre-emptive one, given the situation in Syria. And of course it also provides excellent surveillance advantages to the west (southern Lebanon). But I don't think Israeli leadership wants this for the long term.

Pretty hard to come to a different conclusion these days. I mentioned earlier that the Biden administration has ramped up the effort to sell off the border wall material that Trump bought in his first term and has been sitting in the dirt waiting to be installed for all of Biden's term. 254 including dismantling outdated agencies
And this is why I insist it won't be enough. We should not focus on "outdated" agencies or waste and inefficiency.

No, we need a Constitutionalist approach, to strip the gov't down to its mandated core duties in the spirit of the Founders. Devolve power back to the states. Dismantle almost everything under the "good and plenty clause" ("general welfare"). Only then can you even think about efficiency. Otherwise you still get Progressivism, but with lower taxes and better at the job of building their utopia.

No, do not think "outdated" or "efficient." Think "What would the Founders have done?" and cut everything else.

Most of L.I. is flat. But the eastern part gets very hilly. Not like mountains but hilly. 293 LIBS: Pitting Man against other men until we exist NO MORE.

Everyone is all smiles around Trump at NotreDame. Why? Why is the world cheering?

What they dare not say aloud: The date has been Set and the outcome Determined -- they all know the Fix is in, the countdown has started, starting with the fall of Allepo, and that there's absolutely Nothing Trump can do to stop it, and will only be worse if he tries, he can take the Fall for it -- while the ctHARRIS/19 dance like the Israeli observers on the day of 9/11.

Oddly enough, the Cast of Characters always remains the same:

The loss is all on Joe. He actually sent a Spanish-speaking surrogate, without appearing himself, to a debate with AOC. He was so cock-sure he'd win, as he'd won for a long time, sometimes unopposed. He was lazy. He deserved to go. What I*/we didn't deserve was Little Miss AOC, a moron (with a small case 'm') if there ever was one.

* I live in the Queens part of her District. She never comes to our part of the District, sticking to the Bronx part. We're separated by the East River. Only two bridges connecting the two and no direct subway ride, either. The Bronx and Queens are two different worlds put into one Congressional District. Crowley was from my neighborhood (the Queens part; his office was maybe 6 blocks away) while Little Miss is the Bronx part.

298 From the Miranda Warning: "You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you." That is the only exception I can think of where one's rights impose upon another their time and labor. No matter how that lawyer may be compensated, or by whom, ultimately I do have a right to his or her time and consideration upon arrest. The same cannot be said for a doctor, nor a farmer, nor a carpenter, nor a tailor. Indeed, among Maslow's heirarchy of needs it is notable that our most basic needs impose an obligation upon none. Our one right that imposes an obligation upon others happens at the highest point of the heirarchy where we are ruled not by the law of the nature but by the laws of man.

Not with the Queens Republican Party, we'll never replace her. I didn't know who was running as an R until I got into the voting booth. That's how much good the Queens GOP is. NY State isn't much better. But AOC is beatable. You just got to get a name out there and get that debate on a local NYC tv station. None of that ever happens. AOC was brash when she made her splash. That's what you have to do if you want to break through. You can't be cerebral, you have to be visceral.

Hear that a lot. It is in my nature to immediately ask "Is that true?"

Well, no, unless you exclude life from basic human rights. For the first, I don't know, say dozen years of life, that's just what we require.

Now, there is an additional question of whether it's due from everyone or only from some. Here, it looks more like the latter, though I do have trouble with the notion that we can just let an abandoned child die.

348 Reality is in America healthcare is already a human right. Anyone who shows up to a hospital who is sick is treated anyone who shows up at an emergency room for whatever event they’re going through is treated. It has been long known for many many decades that illegal aliens for one get free hospital care and it is always been this way.

Medicaid and Medicare are there so that people that cannot pay for healthcare get it. No one says it that explicitly particularly with Medicare, but that’s what it’s for. In the end, someone has to pay and that’s why we have a for-profit healthcare system for the people who are not in poverty. Sure there are issues. No one’s defending the healthcare system here. But the idea that we basically have not made healthcare right already is just not true. The people that can’t pay still have to pay if they don’t we’re not gonna have any healthcare at all.

350 I bought the last sentence I said the people that can pay still have to pay. This never had anything to do with healthcare. It has to do with American Democrat, leftist wanting to make us more like socialist, Europe, Cuba, and Canada. They are very smart because they focus on an issue that will bring a lot of people in if they told them the real goal is to fundamentally change America then they would not have so many converts.

353 EMTALA tries to magically turn health care into a Right, but in doing so makes proper care impossible for *everyone*, paying customers and freeloaders alike.

ERs get swamped every hour of the day with spherical Guatemaloids and their fifteen grandchildren with the sniffles, and so each single one takes up time and resources from the ER staff because they *must* be seen.

What might actually work as a solution is something like an anti-EMTALA. ER staff concludes that you don't actually have an emergency, and that any rational adult should know it's not an emergency, but you went to the ER anyway instead of your local doc in a box or just the damn supermarket for some advil and a box of tissues? You get fined. Nothing major, just a parking ticket basically. But if you can get in trouble for wasting 911 emergency services' time calling them with nonsense, why not the ER itself?

362 So... another gubmint Ponzi scheme

Posted by: JQ at December 13, 2024 03:56 AM (YoCnN)

363 357, I mentioned illegal aliens for a specific reason. We have limited resources in this country and when you add 10 or 30 million extra people it’s going to cut into resources. There is a reason veterans receive less these days. It’s because there are another 10 to 30 mm people that want benefits too. We all want to help veterans in need but they get hosed because for some weird reason we think it’s perfectly fine to help 10 to 30 mm that just showed up and started asking for benefits.

The other reason, I mention illegals because I have talked with hospital administrators. I used to live in one of the prominent counties in this state and the hospital people there said the state gave them tax breaks if they never followed up trying to get payment for ER services. So the illegals who came to the ER would simply give them a fake address for payment and bylaw of the hospital was not allowed to pursue it any further. The person in charge of the hospital ER payments told me this.
