Ramaswamy, Musk Meet with Congressional Republicans to Talk DOGE
Plus: Update on Assassin

This might end up being the most serious budget-cutting effort in decades.

Ramaswamey and especially Musk bring something to budget/efficiency that we rarely see: excitement and public interest. That might be enough to get actual results.

On the other hand, it could be -- and probably will be -- another case of the unchangeable, unreformable government once again protecting its own interests and its phoney-baloney jobs.

Congressional Republicans are planning to work closely with Tesla CEO Elon Musk and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, the pair co-leading Trump's newly formed spending cuts project, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

The DOGE duo made their rounds with lawmakers in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, spending the morning with members of the Senate DOGE Caucus before heading to a meeting with House GOP leaders and House DOGE Caucus representatives.

The pair, who will spearhead efforts under President-elect Trump to slash government spending and strengthen government efficiency under the incoming Trump administration, wrapped up their day on Capitol Hill by addressing a joint meeting with Republicans of both chambers.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., incoming chair of the DOGE House subcommittee, revealed that, during the meeting, Musk said there would be a "naughty list" and a "nice list" for lawmakers.

"There will be a lot more that is expressed in the days ahead," Johnson said as he left the meeting. "Stay tuned for more to come."

That's a good sign. This isn't going to change unless those fighting change are called out and exposed as phonies and Regime operatives.

Co-chairs of the DOGE House caucus said there was a "big discussion" during the meeting with Musk and Ramaswamy about education and the redundancy of government workers.

"There is so much waste, fraud and abuse. There is so much inefficiency. Where do we begin?" DOGE Caucus co-chair Rep. Aaron Bean, R-Fla., said.

...

Rep. Troy Nehls, R-Texas, walking out of the meeting, told reporters that "we're going to gut the fish."

Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, however, was skeptical of them relying on the new department to cut costs.

"It's a little rich to go, 'Oh DOGE, save us.' What, from ourselves?" Roy told reporters. "What I told them is, their best role is to expose the absolute stupidity coming out of this body."

A "senior Republican aide," who's done such a bang-up job of cutting spending himself and who of course is anonymous because they all have coward's hearts, says Ramaswamey and Musk will fail and he seems very happy they'll fail.

Update on NYC Assassin:

They have also traced his movements post-killing. He rode his bike north and then took a cab to the west side of Manhattan, and then to the Port Authority bus station at (IIRC) 178th and Columbus. Video caught him entering the bus station but not exiting, so he probably took a bus out of NYC. They did not say they knew which bus.

Cops also found a department store shopping bag in Central Park containing "clothing." The suspicion is that this might contain the clothes he wore during the hit, which he shed to put on different clothes.

I have a feeling this bag isn't the killer's. Seems like a big mistake to leave you clothes (and your DNA) out in the open to be found later.

Update: A Maryland State Police investigator just saw an old Columbo and thinks the CEO hired his own assassin in some kind of insurance scam.

What a genius.

Not necessarily. People blame entitlements because overhead is so opaque. What DOGE will do is dig into staffing buildings, vehicle fleets, etc.

Oh, and that staffer is a putz.

We haven't done standard budget order for more than 20 years. It's either omnibus passed at the deadline or CRs passed at the deadline.

Maybe the GOP actually doing its job and going through departments one at a time might find something. You know, like they did in 1995 and created a budget SURPLUS.

21 The easiest place to start would be to look at actual expenditures for the last, say, 10 years, for each department.

If the money went to an NGO? Cut it.
If the money went overseas? Cut it.
If the money went for an elaborate party at the end of the year to spend it out (The feds object when the recipients of their grants do that BTW)? Cut it.
If the department can't identify what the money went for or where? Cut it.

That alone would probably get every department down to a reasonable budget.

Then you can start getting mean.

Final result goes to Congress to vote on as a proposed budget.

We're talking well over $100 Million promoting tourism in a foreign country. Alaska gets something like $16 Million to study imitation salmon products. Did you get that? The salmon industry is a prime market in Alaska, but our government pays them to create a niche market contradictive to their prime.

The above was easily documented in about 5 minutes. There are organizations out there that do nothing BUT document government waste. Most of them state that they could all cut over $1 Trillion based on the documentation they currently possess.

136 If you’re a manager and can’t properly allocate and track work for remote workers you suck as a manager. I work for a company 2 states away. I manage a group of 10 people. A few are on-site the majority are remote. The ones on-site work from home most of the time as well. We’re all over the country, different time zones, etc.

It works fine. I’ve told my subordinates I don’t care if you live on mars. Make sure you have good WiFi. That’s all I care about.

As far as goofing off goes, there is none. In the sense that I have work that needs to be done every week or every two weeks. If it’s not done then I ask questions. Which is very rare. If you want to play video games in the morning, whatever. As long as the work I’ve assigned is done. Wanna do the work at 9pm who gives a shit?

As long as everyone shows up for meetings and gets the work done on time and in good order, it’s all that matters. Who cares if they do it in a cube next to their co-workers or at home Wearing pajamas?

If you can’t trust your employees then you either have the wrong employees or the company culture needs changing.

158 So here's one big clue for DOGE, if employees are sitting at home, maybe half way across the country, why are they being paid the locality pay attached to their "station?"

Locality pay was designed to draw employment to an expensive area to work, commute, live. AFGE recently wrote, "The GS locality boundaries are drawn according to commuting rates, which is the proper way to define local labor markets. "

However, blue collar feds - yes, many veterans in the past - have been shafted in pay but it could change.

'15,000 Blue Collar Workers to Get Raise Thanks to AFGE’s Success in Merging Locality Pay Maps, October 07, 2024'

Give them the raises for going to the job & working, take the locality pay from everyone "working from home." Period. And stop letting the ones at home earn additional "comp" time (24 hours at full pay) on the books, too.

I've been working remote for 30 years. Very remote.

But my companies also haven't been paying for extravagant office space for me all that time either. We have enormous buildings in DC designed for thousands of workers and they have occupancy rates in the single digits. Sell the buildings and tear up leases.

DC bureaucrats spend money like drunken sailors because nobody ever tells them no. I went to EX-IM Bank meeting in DC a number of years ago. As far as the genius-level intelligence, are they trying to select for mathematical autists or are they planning on also taking people who have some capability at basic life skills?

270 My thought for DOGE:

Google, advertisers, AI, and other companies have the tech to analyze quadrillions of data points to pinpoint correlations. You simply going to some random page, then a related page, and both having a "Like Us On Facebook" button that pulls THAT image from Facebook? Facebook knows. And then Google'll know. And now you're wandering why some other page is showing advertising for an eerily not-so-random thing.

So... use that analysis on the government. There's LOTS of data, yeah. But server farms can process it. One problem is whether the data is digitized and accessible - it should be. If not, then modernize, and retire the folk who act like humanoid cogs rather than improve the system.

Who is getting paid, both in the government and through contracts? Who are the workers in those external companies? Do they happen to be the same people in the government, double-dipping? Or shady connections that can be found by how often their cell phones just happen to be nearby one another all the time?

Pull the data together, crunch it, and find out who starts scurrying like roaches in the light.
