Good evening Horde. The time has come for mid-week shenanigans of the overnight variety.

This is the Wednesday night ONT. Anchors aweigh!

One of the most famous Star Wars bits dialogue involved a jedi mind trick:

Sandtrooper: Let me see your identification.

Ben Obi Wan Kenobi: [with a small wave of his hand] You dont need to see his identification.

Sandtrooper: We dont need to see his identification.

Ben Obi Wan Kenobi: These arent the droids youre looking for.

Sandtrooper: These arent the droids were looking for.

Ben Obi Wan Kenobi: He can go about his business.

Sandtrooper: You can go about your business.

Ben Obi Wan Kenobi: Move along.

Sandtrooper: Move along... move along.

The helmet of the Imperial Sandtrooper who lets Ben, Luke and the droids through was sold at auction recently for GBP327,600 which translates to about USD$417,688. Only six were made and only three survive.

Zoo discovers 10 year old king penguin Maggie is actually Magnus

Birdland Park and Gardens in Bourton on the Water, Gloucestershire, said the penguin formerly known as Maggie had a feather sent for DNA testing after keepers noticed the penguin attempting to initiate mating with a male penguin named Frank.

Alistair Keen, the head keeper at Birdland:

Discovering that Magnus is actually a male and his gender differs from what we initially believed presents another unique hurdle in our efforts to establish a successful breeding program here in the U.K. It is fascinating, however, to have confirmed what we have long suspected, and we remain committed to supporting these incredible birds in every way possible.

Hey Alistair. Quite an operation you have there. Maybe you need to go back and watch the Penguin 101 video again.

TRex has heard of "Black Friday," but only recently learned about "Brown Friday."

Brown Friday: Yelp reveals the 20 most clogged cities in the U.S.

From clogged sinks to overflowing toilets, Brown Friday, the day following Thanksgiving, is consistently among the plumbing industrys busiest times of the year. Yelp data revealed that searches for emergency plumbing surged 65 percent during the 2023 Brown Friday time period, when comparing searches from the two weeks before Thanksgiving Day to those on Thanksgiving Day and the two weeks after in 2023. Searches for 24 hour plumbers were higher on Thanksgiving Day than any other day in November 2023.

Tops on the list? Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, Sacramento, and Baltimore.

The jokes write themselves.

Hallelujah was written by Canadian singer Leonard Cohen, originally released on his album Various Positions forty years ago (in 1984). The song achieving little initial success but become more popular through new versions recorded by John Cale in 1991 and Jeff Buckley in 2004. The song was also featured in the 2001 film Shrek.

Cohen is said to have claimed writing 150 verses, a claim substantiated by his notebooks containing manifold revisions and additions, and by contemporary interviews. Since 1991, the song has been covered by more than 300 singers in many languages. In an April 2009 CBC Radio interview, Cohen said he found the number of covers of his song ironic and amusing, given that his record label refused to release it when he first wrote it. Speaking of, there was a really good disc of covers back around 1990 or so. I'm Your Fan was the name. There was an outstanding version of Don't Go Home with Your Hard-On on that album, too.

The order also created a Center for Strategic Counterterrorism Communications, bringing representatives of all departments and agencies into counter-terrorism efforts, including DOD, CIA, and significantly, the Broadcasting Board of Governors.

The neat part is that I think the "animation" is still images that were created and then had bits specifically selected and instructed to add movement. It's a moving still image, sort of a partial gif.

It's something any of us could create at home if we wanted to spend a few hundred dollars on a decent video card. Or use online resources that use off-site computers and video cards you rent and send instructions to, I guess.

Fairly impressive animated HD movie making / storytelling is within the grasp of nobodies, and that's a good thing.

They are some hoax deal or performance art or something.

If they were spy drones they would not be lit up - same if they were weaponized.

80 Hardware wars — I wasn't going to watch it, but then I started, and, like a slow-motion train crash, I couldn't look away.

I saw the original SW movie in theaters, the next two on VHS, and never looked at them or subsequent SW shows again. I was too old and jaded already to be a fan. Did appreciate the special effects, how they affected shows since. Laughed out loud at the scrolling-away text at the beginning, which set me up to properly appreciate that it was a big-budget version of an episodic 1930s movie serial.

Net connection cut out half-way through Hardware Wars. Still debating going back to finish it. Pretty funny.

Haven't seen any in my area. They probably know better. From the amount of occasional gunfire I hear coming from some of the farms around here I'm pretty sure a shoot and loot would be on the menu. Nothing to damage when it goes high speed dirt either.

82 19 I wonder. With full forward magazines, how many useless government workers could be fired through an Iowa class battleship's forward guns?

For those who like porn, it would be a really moving experience.

Posted by: Hour of the Wolf at December 11, 2024 10:07 PM (VNX3d)

By my calculation, almost 57,000 useless government workers could be fired through an Iowa class battleship's forward guns (6) with full forward powder magazines (130 full charges per gun). The 16-inch, 50 caliber guns have an 800-inch barrel. Assuming an average worker height of 5' 6", and using one powder bag (1/6th of normal charge) per firing per gun (should be adequate to propel 12 bodies per firing).

83 I have a crazy idea on how to deal with the huge drones. I think they're searching for their queen.

So, we need to try launching certain women into the air while the drones are present, to see which one they're searching for.

I suggest starting with Tank Abrams, Lizzo, Rosie O'Donnell, Fani Willis, Hillary, Joy Reid, and Joy Behar. Whoopi might be in the second group.

The drones probably belong to vendors trying to get military contracts. That way the military can say, “Those are not our drones.”

We can also be certain that their lack of security concerns means they know what the drones are all about. If they DIDN’T know, they also wouldn’t know there is no security risk.

Lucas Tomlinson @LucasFoxNews 6h
Despite nearly a dozen mysterious drones sightings over New Jersey since last month, Pentagon’s Northern Command says, “we have not been requested to assist with these events.”

Scott Adams @ScottAdamsSays 6h
Okay, assuming our military doesn’t know what is up with the NJ drone visitations, America has no functional air defense.

And the Joint Chiefs should be fired immediately.

It would explain 9/11 and the Chinese Spy balloon.

But I’m still betting on vendors demonstrating their drones as part of a military procurement process.

I assume our military is doing massive “bake offs” to see who makes the best drones domestically. That should be happening now, bigly.

Scott Adams @ScottAdamsSays 5h
Only one reason for that.

The drones are working with our military or intelligence people.

Well, no, we don't. There are only a very few places in CONUS that I think would have any sort of active air defense - the White House is about the only one, really.

The drones are large for drones, but not aircraft size - they look to be about the size of professional camera drones, or agricultural. They have as I have noted navigational lights on board.

His mom worked as a beautician, his dad at a grain elevator—they were probably really proud when he graduated valedictorian of his 50-person high school class. He played basketball and the trombone, got elected homecoming king, and worked in soybean fields and meat processing plants during summers. While studying at the University of Iowa, he met the woman who would become his wife, with whom he would have two kids. By all accounts, he was smart, hard-working, funny, and a thoroughly decent man.

I have one right around the corner from me. Then you got newark airport and the one in atlantic city, so a lot of jersey is in a flight pattern. If it was in the middle of bumfuck egypt with corn fields 100 miles in any direction it would be one thing, but jersey has planes all over the skies, so to run the drones dark would be pretty frigging dangerous. 146 106 100 Well I'll be damned.
I was initially right about the gun used in the UHC murder.

From the photos it was 3d printed.

There have been no photos of the suppressor but I have seen it reported that it was also 3d printed.

Individuals can purchase at gun shows or on-line, with no background check or ATF paperwork, every part and spring of a Glock or any other mass-produced semi-auto pistol - except the serialized frame and suppressors. Those two are what he 3-D printed per reports so far. Suppressor-ready threaded-muzzle barrels are readily available, without a background check or ATF paperwork.

Like the delay mechanism built in to the trigger for the main battery - if the roll of the ship has rendered the firing solution incorrect, there is a slight delay til the ship returns to the same orientation before firing.

When the class was brought out for the last time in the 1980s, it was decided that modern digital computing offered little advantage over the amazing Mark 8 electro-mechanical fire control computer, so they just went with the original system. From the 1940s.

Yes, this Drone thing is some military test operation. They need to do the tests over some populated area for whatever reason. Imagine it may be some "remote sensing" of some sort, and they want to test it.

Also, probably getting some date on how a local population and local authorities react and all that. The Pentagon's too cute responses confirm this is what's going on.

And finally Trump. Has he had said anything? Some of those things were flying over his property. As incoming president, I'm sure he's been on the phone asking about this, and they told him. So, he's not worried, 'cause he knows what it is.

It was a poignant indicator of the desperate straits that the Japanese were in that the Yamato was basically used as a giant kamikaze vessel on its last mission. They didn't even give it enough fuel to make it back to port.

I would think that crew morale must have suffered.

Are the drones actually doing anything remotely dangerous? I don't think so. What they're testing is probably some remote sensing tech of some sort. Something that might be used against an enemy somewhere.

In a real scenario, they might be more stealth, but over our own country's populated areas, they have to be safe, so light 'em up and and all that.

238 Cicero actually I think Yamato had more fuel than most assume, enough for a round-trip, though obviously a RT was not the plan (the book may have that detail).

As to morale, well, yeah. The task force commander and his escort commanders vigorously protested the operation order, a high-ranking officer went down to Kure to impress the order face to face.

Ships in the task force put some of their youngest, and oldest, crewmen ashore. Yamato kicked 50 freshly trained cadets off - to save them. And the night before the sortie, they had raging parties on all the ships, ships' stores were thrown open, booze for all. All of this of course unique in IJA history.

What would be interesting is for somebody that knows what they're doing to get some fancy sprectrum analyzers and shit, get under the drone area, and see just what, if anything, those drones are radiating and emitting. What do they seem to be looking for, what possible data are they taking.

Maybe they are sending a warning by doing it in public so it can't be covered up, not doing it over the Pentagon to prevent a panicked response, and not announcing it to avoid the US doing something stupid in an effort to save face.

I think if this really was some foreign power showing off, the response would've been different, more panicked, more "kinetic". Not that they wouldn't like and cover it up depending, but it would've been different. There would've been some noticeable response from the military over some real unknown incursion into US airspace.

The last one he was ranting about these 23-yr old snot nosed campaign staffers running Kamala's campaign. "If some 23-yr snot nose told me he was going to resign if I did or didn't do something, I'd fire his ass on the spot, and find out who hired him, and then fire that guy's ass on the spot".

And he told the truth about that Sister Souljah thing. They needed someway to show Clinton was not going along with that. Carville said the way to do that is think up something to say that will piss off the Washington and NYTimes liberal establishment types. Something to get them really wound up.

He said that's what they should've done about Kamala's young male voter problem, said something to really piss off the AWFUL's and rainbow haired types.

To me, this would explain why 1) there is complete blanket official denial; 2) no one is going out of their way to investigate; 3) the drones are not stealthy, instead being lit up like commercial aircraft

342 Anyone want to buy a 16 mo Gordon Setter? He's a sweet cuddly dog.

Flash slipped his collar while out tonight. He misses Jules, she's been in hospitals since 11/8. So I get home from visiting her in Rockford, let the dogs out and start my phone calls first with my brother.

This is serious business, Dad just called and asked if I thought he should go into hospice. We talk and I ignore the dogs barking.

When I go out Flash is gone, slipped the collar I thought I had tightened. After calling him, hobbling around in the dark with my cane and driving around I found him. He was manic crazy, couldn't get him in the car. Then some guy with a backpack walks up, offers some chips to the dog, we have no success.

Backpack has to go, says call the police. Yeah, I'm counting the drinks I had while talking to my brother...nahh, maybe not a smart idea.

Dog has headed south towards home so I drive there. Send out the older dog to bring him home, again tonight, she did this once before in the past. Finally Flash shows up at the front porch and willingly comes in.

So I guess my point in this long post is if you really have a shitty day, someone out there always has it worse.

Oh, and I don't think olive oil is a seed oil. They press the pulp. I use peanut for my Chinese, mostly olive for overall cooking and occassionally unsalted butter. Plus that bacon fat. And toasted sesame oil as a condiment/addition to a sauce or dish, not a cooking oil. That's it, I can't remember any other oils.
