Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The Morning Rant: Reflections Edition![]() Good morning Horde. Charlie Brown's Dildo inquired if I would take his Rant threads today and on Thursday. Something about him being "detained" concerning an incident with maple syrup, "French toast" and turkey link sausage. I'll be upfront with you folks. After considerable thought I came to the realization that I didn't have any specific "Rant" topic. I believe it is a result of the Post-Election Trump Glow. Instead, I have some general thoughts about events that do have me irked. Take for example the unbelievably shocking pardon issued by President MushHead for"Corrupt To The Core": Dems In Disarray Over Hunter Pardon As 'Rule Of Law' Narrative Implodes Absolute chaos has broken out on the left following Joe Biden's blanket pardon of his son Hunter - which spans the period right before Hunter joined the board of Ukrainian energy giant Burisma (for $1M/year), through yesterday evening. Of course we "despicable, deplorable, garbage people" knew that this would always happen. Even if the scum sucking bottoming feeding media told us otherwise. Then they pontificate on how much wiser and caring they are. FOAD. I recently made a home owner's insurance premium payment. Not only has inflation struck the grocery stores it has hit the Property & Casualty markets as well. And this is one of the reasons why. Pure utter mind boggling stupidity at it's finest. A $3 million mansion in a high-end Connecticut neighborhood met a fiery demise on Thanksgiving when the home was inundated in flames from a turkey frying inside a garage. Heart-pounding images captured the raging inferno surrounding the Weston home just after 3:40 p.m. on Thursday as firefighters rushed to contain the fire. Firefighters were alerted to the blaze by an automatic fire alarm on Weston Road before several 911 calls were made about a garage fire. “When we arrived, the whole garage end of the house was on fire – like a third of the house,” Weston Volunteer Fire Department Chief John Pokorny told CT Insider. Amid the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s and the Iran-Contra controversy that had the US providing some arms to Iran through Israel, then-prime minister Yitzhak Shamir remarked that both sides in the war were “crazy,” and “we have no reason to wish either of the parties success.” Over time, this quote morphed into Shamir's saying when asked about the war: “We wish both sides success This is an older story. But, it demonstrates our esteemed intelligence racket. Obviously intelligence at the DC level has no interest in curiosity. Reporting from Amman, Jordan — Syrian militias armed by different parts of the U.S. war machine have begun to fight each other on the plains between the besieged city of Aleppo and the Turkish border, highlighting how little control U.S. intelligence officers and military planners have over the groups they have financed and trained in the bitter five-year-old civil war. The fighting has intensified over the last two months, as CIA-armed units and Pentagon-armed ones have repeatedly shot at each other while maneuvering through contested territory on the northern outskirts of Aleppo, U.S. officials and rebel leaders have confirmed. This strikes me as funny. However Russian taxpayers might be a bit miffed. Don't you do a "dry run" with cold water to determine how much oil to use?
Posted by: no one of any consequence Rule of thumb, depending on the pot, is about 60% full, which will cover the bird when it displaces oil upon insertion. Then, put the turkey in the oil when it gets close to 300 degrees. The oil will rapidly hit 350 when the turkey goes in. Don't wait for 350 to add the bird. Of course, every year we see someone who decides to put a FROZEN turkey in 350 degree oil, and hilarity ensues, except for property owners, and those that hoped to eat some turkey. Actually MisHum I'm baffled at the trends in some insurance markets. Absent government distortion and misregulation, insurance is the simplest business in existence (and underappreciated as one of the pillars of modern prosperity).
Actuarial data (how often specific shit happens, and what it costs) + reserve for 2-sigma+ events + profit margin = insurance premiums. Of course, disastrously, we have "+ government interference leading to oligopolies, cost-shifting, etc" added to the equation. But absent a change in the actuarial data (i.e., reality), or an increase in reserve or profit margin, what gives with these sudden, dramatic cost increases? Real insurance is sort of a super-tanker, it doesn't shift or turn quickly. Posted by: rhomboid at December 03, 2024 11:11 AM (1m82a) 44

Watching a couple live feeds out of South Korea. One shows a mob outside the a large gate that leads to a large building which, based on the second feed imagery, is the parliament building. It seems the the assembly is meeting to rescind martial law. What is clear everything is foobar. always shop around with insurance, both home and auto. I change carriers often because there’s always a better deal somewhere.
I just did this a few weeks ago. I noticed my premium was at over $3000!! You don’t notice it since everything is on auto pay and minor increases kind of slide under the radar. But those minor increases add up eventually. And I was like WTf? $3k for home owner insurance? It was $1000 not that long ago. So I got a few online quotes and found one for $2100. Same coverages, same everything, one of the big name carriers. It’s like any other service. New customers get better deals than existing customers. See what you’re paying for internet. Chances are there’s a promo with a competitor for 1/2 price compared to your current plan. Same with a cell phone plan, electricity plans, you name it. It takes some effort but if you’re willing to put in that effort you’ll save money. Posted by: It is Go Time Donald at December 03, 2024 11:18 AM (Q4RRN) 82

They "par-bake" German rolls, breads, etc. and ship them to you in a way that they take just 10 minutes in the oven to finish. The "brotchen" (crusty, chewy dinner/sandwich rolls) look exactly like the ones I basically lived on in Germany. Order placed, waiting for the box to arrive. Russian bread (esp. black bread) is great. In the Glorious Era of Soviet Power, I lived there for a bit, and of course food was not among the highlights, to put it mildly. Rep. Jamaal Bowman repeats over and over that Biden didn't lie about pardoning Hunter because "the context has changed" since Trump won the election.
The context is that the election is over. There is no reason now to lie about respecting the law and all that. Hunter's pardon has always been happening. Legislative branch
At the national level, the legislative branch consists of the National Assembly of South Korea. This is a unicameral legislature; it consists of a single large assembly. Most of its 300 members are elected from-member constituencies; however, 56 are elected through proportional representation. The members of the National Assembly serve for four years; if a member is unable to complete his or her term, a by-election is held. The National Assembly is charged with deliberating and passing legislation, auditing the budget and administrative procedures, ratifying treaties, and approving state appointments. In addition, it has the power to impeach or recommend the removal of high officials. Posted by: andycanuck (hovnC) at December 03, 2024 11:34 AM (hovnC) 178

Executive branch
The executive branch is headed by the president. The president is elected directly by the people, and is the only elected member of the national executive. The president serves for one five-year term; additional terms are not permitted. The president is head of state, head of government and commander-in-chief of the South Korean armed forces. The president is vested with the power to declare war, and can also propose legislation to the National Assembly. The president can also declare a state of emergency or martial law, subject to the Assembly's subsequent approval. The President can veto bills, subject to a two-thirds majority veto override by the National Assembly. However, the president does not have the power to dissolve the National Assembly. This safeguard reflects the experience of authoritarian governments under the First, Third, and Fourth Republics. Posted by: andycanuck (hovnC) at December 03, 2024 11:34 AM (hovnC) 184

The president is assisted in his or her duties by the Prime Minister of South Korea as well as the Presidential Secretariat. The Prime Minister is appointed by the president upon the approval of the National Assembly, and has the power to recommend the appointment or dismissal of the Cabinet ministers. The officeholder is not required to be a member of the National Assembly. The Prime Minister is assisted in his/her duties by the Prime Minister's Office which houses both the Office for Government Policy Coordination and the Prime Minister's Secretariat, the former of which is headed by a cabinet-level minister and the latter by a vice minister-level chief of staff. if the president is unable to fulfill his duties, the Prime Minister assumes the president's powers and takes control of the state until the President can once again fulfill his/her duties or until a new president is elected.

It's the result of a combination of many factors. Eating in European dining facilities with NATO troops, the Europeans usually had plates full of vegetables and fruit, with small portions of meat and other calorie-dense main dishes. Everything in Europe is much smaller portion size in general, and they tend to walk a lot more, burning of a few more calories here and there throughout the day.
Posted by: Military Moron at December 03, 2024 11:30 AM (JCZqz) Absolutely there are many factors. I used bread as one example of how their food is more healthy. The same goes for most mass produced food. There’s generally a lot less stuff added like sugars and preservatives vs North America. As for walking, that’s sort of a myth. Yes Europeans in big cities do walk a lot. But so do Americans in big cities. Nobody owns a car in NYC for example.Euros who live in the burbs or the country aren’t walking 5 miles to work. They’re in a car or subway or bus. Do Europeans walk more overall? I guess maybe. But it’s not this giant chasm between the two groups that people think it is. In a bad mood this morning (looooooooong story, don't want to talk about it until my therapist can calm me down), so pardon my Huguenot French: WHY THE F*** WAS AMERICA EVER INVOLVED IN SYRIA?! Why did we ever care about their civil war? Sure, they used chemical weapons (badly, because they had been poorly maintained after they got the weapons from Iraq in 2003) on their own people, but you know who has treaties and regulations for that s***? The UN, that's who. NOT AMERICA. So the Pentagon (who committed treason by keeping troops in Syria after their CinC told them to leave) and the CIA (who is just treasonous in general) can go and fight on either Syrian civil war side themselves if they believe so strongly in it. Taxpayer money can be used to issue them one vest, an M16 and some ammo, and a plane ticket to Damascus. Don't even pay for their body bags, they don't want to fight for this country, they want to fight for someone else's, that country can bury them.

Pretty close to challah. Served slathered with butter with coffee.

You need a small amount of sugar to feed the yeast.
Posted by: Thomas Paine at December 03, 2024 11:32 AM (lTGtQ) You do not. Yeast will feed on flour easily, and if you want an extra push to the rise you can add malt. Flour is basically bound up glucose, and the yeast feeds on it, though it can only attack the end of the carbohydrate chain. Malt breaks those chains in the middle and gives the yeast more area to feed on. Sugar is used as a "softening" agent in that it is hydrophilic and traps water in the dough as it is baked, leaving it softer. You do not need sugar to get your yeast to start, you just need time, and warmth. Posted by: Kindltot at December 03, 2024 12:10 PM (D7oie) 368

In a previous life a Romanian coworker often invited me to have dinner with him and his family. They absolutely hated American food and spent absurd amounts of time finding proper ingredients. Those were some of the best meals I had in my life and were only exceeded by my Grandmother's meals which she made from scratch for every single meal including fresh bread.

It is even better if you are using a cup of whole meal flour or Scotch oats since the extended soak gets the bran and the germ broken down more completely Posted by: Kindltot at December 03, 2024 12:43 PM (D7oie) 493

Garrett, is Goldsmiths still operating there in Missoula? They had fantastic espresso. And ice cream, and other pure calorie delights.
I can make a decent ersatz “pull” camping (or even not camping) with a teeny tiny aluminium italian job invented a couple hunnert years ago. Remember Coffee entered the West by way of the eye-ties. It looks like a salt shaker inside, and only makes a few ounces. I like to use it with regular grind or whatever. It saves on both coffee and water, when that is a concern. M’adaglia D’oro is OK for a retail espresso coffee. Bustelo is a little less costly. A strong cup will tell you whether the coffee is any good. Shitty coffee is not improved by concentration, it will reveal defects Posted by: Common Tater at December 03, 2024 12:49 PM (DSQyT) 495
No Sugar Tonight!
Make them Yeasties work for a living for a day or two. Otherwise they get metabolic syndrome. Obesity. Seriously a “Poolish” or aging bread dough will achieve much better aroma, crust, flavor, and color upon baking. It smells wonderful. A real good whang to it, complex flavors.
