Temp is 48 F., a little warmer than yesterday. I'll need to bundle up a bit for my workout.
Most of yesterday's ventures for Miss Linda's b'day did not work out well. The hair trim did; she looks good, as usual. But she didn't like the lipsticks she examined at Macy's, and neither Whole Foods nor the thrift store had anything she was hoping to find. I'll buy her a pumpkin pie this morning on my grocery run. The 1986 version of Stagecoach, aka the "Country Singers Edition," is on Grit: Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, and Waylon Jennings are in it, plus Mary Crosby and Tony Franciosa. This is the third version, I think, after the 1939 with John Wayne and the 1966 with Ann-Margret. This one seems to be mounted well, and all the singers are also pretty good actors.

Coursing Aptitude Test aka CAT. That is hilarious. Hadrian. What type pups do you have? Posted by: Alteria Pilgram at December 01, 2024 06:28 AM (vO42M) Georgie (Soyara's Dragon Slayer) is a year-old Borzoi. The pass-fail test is to see whether a dog (of any breed) will chase a electrically-operated lure (white plastic bags tied to a line) over a straight-line course of 300 yards. An operator keeps the lure moving just fast enough to stay ahead of the dog. The dog has to finish in 90 seconds. George, because he has the instinct to chase and the structure to move fast, finished in about 15 seconds. While conformation events are run professionally with almost Prussian punctuality, field events are exasperatingly slipshod. This drove me nuts the times I worked as a paddock master at coursing trials. I know there are inherent inefficiencies: lines break, dogs have to be retrieved, paperwork brought in from the field. That means you need to keep on top of all the stuff you can control but no ones does. Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at December 01, 2024 06:45 AM (dxSpM) 55

It all goes sideways, and the whole region flips in months.”

Sausage Supper at Mr. S's church went great. They fed over 400 people, the food was delicious (though he thought the sausage was too spicy and I thought it was the best we've eaten since we've been here) and there was food leftover for feeding the local homeless today.
They liked the vests I worked on too, so that was nice. There was an abundance of beautiful pies- one man made 14 lemon meringues- but those of us in the pie room agreed that the organist's coconut meringues were the best. Posted by: sal at December 01, 2024 07:39 AM (f+FmA) 122
For reasons unknown, my video feed has been featuring sermons by Pastor Gino Jennings of the First Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ. They're funny and sad at the same time. Like all Protestant ministers of a particular stripe, he rants and raves about the Catholic Church as full of hell-bound idolators, not realizing that proof that the Church is divinely ordained lies in the fact that any other institution so badly run would be out of business in a month. What's sad is that his views on abortion, marriage and behavior are closer to Catholic doctrine than a lot of his (*ahem, ahem*) more liberal Protestant brethren. Abortion is evil, marriage is a lifelong pact, avoid near occasions of temptation to do wrong, modesty becomes a woman. Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at December 01, 2024 07:40 AM (dxSpM) 123

Notso. We have one in the small town where we spend a lot of time. Not the least expensive choice but so many good things which include a wonderful deli with hot soups and good stuff on their hot bar. A glorious beer and wine section and their own brands of many items. Still cut their own meat.

From that article, this bit: "We also spoke about many other important topics like Energy, Trade, and the Arctic. All are vital issues that I will be addressing on my first days back in Office, and before." So in other words, more strong-arm tactics coming and in short order. This may sound odd coming from a Canadian, but... Good. Posted by: Grumpy and Recalcitrant at December 01, 2024 08:37 AM (O7YUW) 214
Ohio State losing to a barely .500 team missing its two best starters while playing a former walk-on at quarterback is a high crime.

The 5 leading members of the women’s altar guild, meeting in the Pastors office, got into a knock down, drag out fight so bad that police were called, arrests were made. Best part - pastor was present, he apparently sat in his chair and did nothing but watch. Don’t know if he had popcorn. Posted by: Tom Servo at December 01, 2024 08:41 AM (W6hoT) 221

Another factor in the Syrian collapse - many believe Erdogan is playing a part, that he is trying to end Russian and Iranian influence in Syria in favor of himself.
Many have been worried that Russia, Turkey, and Iran would join forces against Israel. Instead it looks like the three of them are going after each other. Posted by: Tom Servo at December 01, 2024 08:55 AM (W6hoT) Posted by: fd at December 01, 2024 08:56 AM (vFG9F) 228
Mr K's is really basic. I get it, because folks in this town don't want anything exotic. It's hard to find good produce here, even in the nearest city.
