1 186 Take it apart, and see if it has an internal circuit breaker. The little electric fan heater running right behind me now had an internal circuit breaker, which failed open, so I bypassed it (and wrote a note to that effect in Sharpie on the case!). It has worked fine for years, since.

It uses two metal strips with contact points. When the strip warms it contracts and moves away from the other strip, opening the circuit. I bent the strips closer to the point of good contact at #2 on the setting dial. Progressively within less than two minutes, moving the setting to a higher number each time, the contact strip (it resembles a flat feeler gauge strip) had resumed its original shape leave the circuit open at the highest setting.

Thought about a dab of solder on the contact points. If the solder melted it would clear the electronics and fall to the bottom of the heater. Second thought is to wrap copper wire the two strips together.

12 I'll probably take heat for this, but . . .

As heartwarming as such videos may be, IMHO they can cause more harm than good when people venture into wilder areas. I have my own catalog of (nearly tragic) stories, witnessing tourists in national parks, thinking they're in a petting zoo. I've had my own encounters with bear, moose, bison and wolves, among others.

Wildlife rescue and fostering is a good thing--my niece does it, with the appropriate training--so long as the animals are returned to the wild. It too millennia and countless generations to get our current domesticated breeds.

Touching vids should not cause the rest of us to become complacent in the wild or believe we're suddenly transported to a '60s Disney movie.

26 Big Bear Family

Sorry, I think people who expect wildlife to be "pets" - not serious threats - are just a little bit unclear on the concept. As many "mauled by" stories will attest.

"Fluffy was just like a member of the family… until it ate Auntie…"

Heck, even dogs can turn on you, some of them, sometimes. (Glances over at our sweet, frantic Belgian Malinois.)

Even vicious squirrels and racoons! 😒

68 Y'all will remember that I piloted Weird Dave's 32 ft. RV, (Class A),from his former home outside of D.C., all the way to Tyler, TX. With a Toyota Tacoma crew cab truck in tow. Said truck holding a 125cc MX bike on it's own traverse bumper hitch ramp.

The ONLY "difficulty" I found, was in a Burger King parking lot, where geometry demanded that the Tacoma "jump the curb" in order to make a tight-enough turn to exit the lot. Weird Dave & Gingy made it easier, by finding RV parks with nice, "pull-through" parking pads.

That said, there's a lifetime of driving large vehicles with only the side mirrors for "rear view", and a host of mental tricks for maintaining Situational Awareness of what's around you.... even in your blind spots.

Pro-tip. They were NOT in your "blind spot" as you overtook them, or as they overtook you. But you've GOT to "index" them, i.e; Remember They're THERE, until the re-emerge from said blind spot.

Oh, and Weird Dave's mechanical preparations were impeccable. Not one glitch in the Matrix, the entire distance.

Happy Thanksgiving, Horde!

And then you decide to add just 10 more mgs of friend.... I had great fun last night playing music, thinking about some legal stuff going on, overeating, and then my body decided it was time to properly metabolize 80 mgs of THC.... Ugh. At least there aren't any spins. I think I actually get a better high from convection (dry air) vaping weed these days but I'm not thrilled about subjecting my lungs to it. So my digestive tract and liver get to do their thing. Happy Thanksgiving Horde.

92 My parents did a trip to Alaska in an RV, starting in Ga, 20 years or so ago. They were well prepared and had plenty of experience. It's not a trip you do without both. There are ferries you can take at different stages to save some driving miles too.

I own that RV now, and another like it. It's nearly 50 years old and could make that trip again. I don't know if I could though.

98 Afternoon, turkey folk!

We have returned from darkest downtown Swamp. The restaurant and the food (though $$$) were fine. The surroundings . . . Well, let me count them up:

Number of homeless sleeping in doorways: 5

Panhandlers with cardboard signs: 3

People wearing sweats, or hoodies, or just T-shirts and shorts: Too many to count

Conversely, number of people dressed up even a little bit: 4 (this number includes Miss Linda and myself)

Landmarks (stores, etc.) I recall from when I lived there as a kid: Precious few

It is what it is.

And . . . there was a parade. We knew it was going to happen, and parked where we could get out and back home. But it was still annoying.

True. On the other hand you aren't driving and when you are awake you can see everything. When I was a kid my grandfather had a business meeting in California. He hated to fly. So he took me, my sister and my mom to California by train.

One of the things RFK needs to look at is the notion that an appointment isn't complete unless a drug is prescribed or a procedure is scheduled. Time was, you want in and maybe nothing needed to be done. Now there is clear pressure for the to push you into accepting some sort of medication to justify paying for the appointment, even if it's just 800mg Motrin.

My wife and I have been discussing vacation concepts for when we actually get free time again. We've been looking at RVs and trailers, but one of the downsides I see is that they need to be maintained even if you don't use them, and if you don't use them, the money is wasted.

It seems better to have a comfy car for long-distance driving (with plentiful space for luggage) and simply book hotels. If the year proves too busy to travel much, roll the hotel budget into the next year.

YMMV, but the last few years we've always had stuff coming up that have killed or cut short vacation opportunities, and I hate the idea of watching a vehicle just age in place.

Front seats in a full sized Ford Transit are nothing short of INCREDIBLE, for proper ergonomics and back support. I oughta know, having driven a fleet of 'em since 2017.

STRONGLY suggest you arrange a half-day test drive in one. Even a used one. You're test driving "the seat", more than the whole van, so "used" is great for this purpose.

+200k mile service life, without "breakdown" of the seat, too. Ford designed the Transits for a 300k mile service life, and with care and attention, they'll do that.

157 Those Leute in the video above...I have quite literally documented the inevitable end of all who dally with Bruins, and it is not a lovely spectacle to observe. Yet people continue to indulge in this slow-motion seppuku, and any who survive are stunned. "Surely," they say, "Not my brown bear! Never would he, a creature from the wild who occupies an apex predator position, deign to do what is second nature to him, rending, slashing, and biting us to shreds before feasting upon our entrails! It is unthinkable!"

Werner could (and has) point out that bears do not delight in snuggling, and their intake of protein is ever foremost in their minds. Yogi and Boo-Boo seek not a picnic basket, much as Smokey the Bear cares naught about arboreal combustion. When hunger raises its feral head, one's chances are slim or none, and slim has already made his exit. Leave the bears to the Russians, who will gleefully engage in vodka-fueled combat with them. Ach, it is despair to even contemplate.

Oh well. Happy Thanksgiving to all, and greet not the bears unless you have a Weatherby slung over your shoulder, backed up by a Desert Eagle on your hip.

159 One thing. They are probably going to send you for an MRI. An interpolation of an MRI is not conclusive. There are people in no pain whose backs look like crap in an MRI and folk that can barely walk because of the pain who's MRI looks fine.

If I were you I would go and get the best pain specialist you can find and get assessed. Someone who will look you in the eye. Someone who goes beyond the interpolations.

I had the same numb foot and able to feel the nerve pathways down my leg too. Major nerve compression by ruptured disks.

Back pain has completely changed my life and not for the better.

160 I am really impressed with your writing skills and also with the layout on your weblog.
Is this a paid theme or did you customize it yourself?

Either way keep up the excellent quality writing, it's rare to
see a great blog like this one today.
