27 Anyone else have fun in their childhood years helping out with the milking and have barn cats standing around waiting for you to send a jet of milk right into their mouths?

Good memories. The other parts of the milking, not so much (Cows kicking milk pails over, the milk getting sullied and having to be thrown out, or put in a serving dish for the chickens when that happened, and how much that toughens up your hands, because wow do you need some hand strength to do that correctly.)

Oh yeah. And our high school gals needed to be tough as a result too. Just saying.

I've mentioned this before - the girls (in the milking shed) gave you real looks of love when you washed off their udders with the warm soapy water during the winter. It was almost "Look pal, I'm not normally into extramural dating but maybe we can work something out. . . "

60 I got to spend a day as a child on my Uncle Lee's West Virgina place in the mountains.

No electricity. Wood stove in kitchen. Sink had well pump. Outhouse. Milk hand carried in those antique shop tins to be picked up at road in morning. I wasn't old enough to fully comprehend that I was visiting the 1800's in about 1960.

My maternal grandparents, I've recently found, had a farm near Orlando until about the time I graduated from high school. Miss Linda keeps saying I should have been able to visit them in the summers. "Think of all the animals you'd have seen! Milking cows and feeding pigs!"

90 A lovely bucolic scene but not overromanticized. The woman to the left has an expression that says this is work even if the setting is pleasant. (And where the hell is my lazy husband with those milk pails.) I especially like the gnarled tree in the foreground. Aside from the artistry in painting it with its rough bark, twisted branches, and the leaves that remain, it gives a feel that this is an activity that is timeless. The sky has that brightness that precedes actual sunrise. Just a very pleasant, effective painting.

Arturo Michelena is good at facial expressions but I prefer his paintings with trees and animals.

My father would send me a block or two away to one of the mom-and-pop groceries in the neighborhood that were open on Sunday, for ice cream. I had to hurry back, of course, or the stuff would begin to melt.

Cars were already hit not too long ago with the global chip shortage, so people remember that, and, in combination with MSM 24/7 fear mongering...it could happen.

Although most economic reports I've seen have said most car dealerships have an excess of inventory because sales are poor.

He still caught an official reprimand, though, because the Navy takes sexual harassment seriously.

I'll be a contrarian here. Prohibition was a bad idea badly legislated and badly enforced. But it didn't spring up out of nothing. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Americans drank a staggering (so to speak) amount of alcohol. Men would, literally, live at bars and even have their mail delivered there. There were real societal ills that came from it.

What made Prohibition really bad was that the threshold set by the Volstead Act was very low. Had it allowed wine and beer and come down more on the hard stuff, it might have brought the law less into contempt. Even so, it cut the rate of alcohol-related illness considerably. The amount of alcohol consumed per person per year, if I'm not mistaken, still hasn't reached the pre-Prohibition level.

He had an ultrasound on his knee and there is NO blood clot! There is arthritis and fluid that is collected at the back of his knee instead of the front. A compression sleeve and prednisone are working to reduce pain and swelling. He is much more comfortable now.

357 Nope got rid of that a couple of years ago. You could get "real beer" at the liquor store, but gas stations and grocery were 3/2. and all big domestics were 3/2, couldnt get them at the liquor store. Aloso couldnt get cold beer at the liquor store. All normal now since 2018ish.

We had a family rule that if you went to TX or MO you had to come back with whatever room you had in your car filled up with cases of "real beer". dont have to do that anymore.

362 354 The worse smell I ever experienced was when we did a fundraiser cooking BBQ chicken for lunch plates. After it was over a couple days later doing clean up there was an ice chest of uncooked chicken that was left outside . When I opened the chest it almost knocked me out.

My guess is the shooter went to central park and disappeared into one of the tunnels, changed clothes and appearance, walked out of the park and vanished. Professional killer.

The smell of a a paper mill is the worst I've known. In '79 I had to deliver in the middle of the night to a hospital near a paper mill. After the first experience, I learned to breathe through my mouth as soon as I turned off the state highway, and not to breathe with my nose until I got back.

Are those usually the worst winter weather months? My experience in Denver taught me that the late winter/early spring months provided the heavy, wet snow. My car is FWD and I know I'm not invulnerable, so I have a major advantage over a lot of drivers in the wet-and-white.

Paper mill smells like a bouquet of flowers compared to rotting raw chicken. ( I’m comparing the paper plant in Deridder,LA that I had to pass frequently. ). The pogey plant in Cameron ,LA comes close.

UHC is garbage. I've been stuck with one of their particularly garbage plans through my employer for a decade, it's like those "auto insurers" that give cover for required coverage but don't actually, y'know, COVER anything. My hate for UHC burns brightly enough the Mi-Go on Yuggoth see it and go, "damn, dude".

As Mr. Rock once put it...I may not agree with the man's actions...but I understand.
